Works Awesome
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I see very mixed reviews for this. I installed mine and it has been working awesome the whole time. Only issue I had was I added one of my kids as a guest, and they couldn't connect with their iPhone. I changed them to an admin and it paired just fine. My Android worked great. Been 3 months and the batteries are still fine. I like how it is smaller than the previous generations. Looks really nice with our black handles.

Great deadbolt lock
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced a keypad lock with this one. It is so much better! Very easy to install. It uses the Bluetooth on my phone to detect when I leave the house and automatically locks if I haven’t already locked it. It also automatically unlocks when I return home. It works with Alexa, so I set up a command lock the door and set my alarm system all at once.

Great lock if you enjoy replacing batteries monthl
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought and installed 2 of these locks back in July 2022. Auto Unlock does work well it just does not seem to want to auto lock behind me. I can manually perform a lock / unlock cycle and then it will auto lock at the duration specified in the app. Both locks are within +-30-35 feet from the Wi-Fi router, all other Wi-Fi devices seem to have great signal strength throughout the entire house yet I am still replacing batteries at least monthly.

Smart lock works 'pretty' good.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great smart lock, but not idiot proof. All the features of this smart lock work fine, but you need to understand it's nuances. For example, you cannot control this lock from your phone while only on LTE or cellular. You need a wifi connection. Also, if you monitor it's wifi connection at home you'll find it gets disconnected/reconnected ALL THE TIME. So just turn off this 'notification', though it is a little concerning. Also, it auto-unlocks when you get home. True; but it takes 20-30 seconds for the bluetooth to connect and auto-unlock when you get near enough...leaving you standing at your door for a 'little while' looking like a doof for your door to unlock. I bit the bullet and bought the keypad so I could have faster entry. Keypad works fine but also has nuances. I do recommend this lock, but also recommend taking the time to get to know it.

Awesome Smart Lock Add-on
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to have a smart lock on my door, but didn't want to replace the entire lock. I really like that this turns a standard deadbolt into a smart lock. The install of the hardware is very easy. Where I had issues was getting the lock to connect to Apple Homekit. I ended up having to use my iPad to do the connection to Homekit for this lock. My iPhone wouldn't allow me to get it connected. Other than that this lock is great. I can just tell Siri to lock or unlock my door. I get notifications when the door is locked or unlocked. The door ajar feature seems to only work in the August app only so I don't really use it all that much. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to have a smartlock but doesn't want to replace out their existing hardware.

Meh. Great idea and looks, horrible execution.
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It really is great hardware design but a few issues really annoy me to the point I’ll replace this soon (thought I could live with it at first, 8 mos later I can’t): 1) even though it is RIGHT next to my 2.4ghz router that also supports ALL WiFi bands and has no problems with anything else, it always complains of disconnecting and connecting to WiFi. So I won’t always know when it’s locked or unlocked when I’m away or be able to add codes or remove codes. 2) that problem creates another problem: incredible battery drain. I’m literally spending ten dollars every three weeks buying 2x CR123s (not to mention throwing nasty metals into landfills unnecessarily). 3) the app is horrible. In looks and function. Looks basic 2012 which is ok I guess, but it doesn’t integrate well with HomeKit or the Apple ecosystem if that matters to you. It’s supposed to unlock with Siri or home automations but it doesn’t do that reliably. It either takes 2-3 min (standing outside waiting is lame) or just doesn’t work and fails. Technically it’s supported. Functionally, it’s useless. 4) the idea of the alignment or door ajar sensor is great. It doesn’t work in reality. I’m an electrical and computer engineer who has and buys enough tools to make my wife want to divorce me 10x over: if I am following the directions and it’s not working (it was installed using jigs and measurement equipment with calibration for semiconductor work, so into the thousands of a mm…): it is not a well designed product and the casual installer is not going to get it right often IMO, if it is even about that. I suspect the magnet used for this is just not properly specced no matter how well you install it.

Almost Perfect
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really want to give this a higher rating as the install was super easy and the functionality is great. However, the slow reaction between the keypad and lock knocks a star off and by far the worst part about this product is the abysmal battery life. I literally am changing the battery about once every 2 months, and this is with me being very mindful of not utilizing the keyless lock and unlock. I will go out of my way to bring a physical key with me or leave the door slightly ajar if I'm running out to check the mail to make sure it doesn't auto lock and drain the battery.

DO NOT BUY IF USING WITH MESH WIFI
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am SO thoroughly disappointed with this product. Coming from the 3rd Gen and having had that for the past three years, I really want to love this. Aesthetically and build-wise, it looks and feels like an obvious upgrade from the previous generation. Plus, with it having its own built-in wifi now, there's no more need for the connect wifi bridge. All of these were long overdue upgrades for this popular smart lock. But, that's where all the joy ends. Unfortunately, there is still just one glaring issue that they do not forewarn you about: the batteries will only last for literally a fraction of the time that's claimed. To date: I purchased this March 11th. After a little over a month, in April, I received warnings about the batteries being critically low. So, I was disappointed for sure, but I chalked it up to the reported bluetooth issues this is known to have with AndroidOS. So, I proceed to turning off all of the other features like auto lock and auto unlock, and I end up replacing the batteries April 15th thinking that it should last a bit longer now that I turned off all of those features. But, fast forward another month, it's now May 20th at the time of writing this review, and I get the low battery warning AGAIN. After calling tech support, I learned that this apparently doesn't play well with MESH Wi-fi systems because there's not one dedicated channel when it comes to Mesh wifi. In order to work around this, you (that's right YOU as in the customer that purchased it) must set up some kind of DCHP channel so that it doesn't drain the battery. Obviously, I have no clue what that is. But, I shouldn't have to if I bought this. After speaking with their tech support, the only solution is to either BUY a range extender for the router (which is preposterous considering that a Mesh Wifi system completely blankets the house with wifi signal and negates the need for one), OR contact my mesh router manufacturer to set up said DCHP channel. Thus, I have no choice but to keep replacing the batteries every month and a half or so, which is really inconvenient and unfortunate, because the batteries these use aren't exactly cheap either. In other words, I spent $200 on this, PLUS an additional $40 for a 12-pack of CR123 batteries (a month after purchase mind you) that will barely last 12 months. THAT MEANS, I have to spend an additional $40 on batteries every year, making the long-term cost of ownership for this product hardly appealing, and extremely disappointing I am giving this one lone star because of the bulid quality and all the new features. But, that's it.

Was ahead of the competition now its behind
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty disappointed. I have been using a few different locks now, Kwikset, yale schlage and this one. So far the Kwikset is my favorite and I ended up replacing this lock with that one. This lock is actually my least favorite out of all of them. It is super expensive compared to the other locks and its software features are actually more behind now? Not even sure how that happened since this was supposedly a tech startup that was way ahead of the others when it came out. The selling point of this lock is that you can add it to your existing deadbolt and not have to replace the whole lock. But that feature is surprisingly worthless in todays market. The other locks are super easy to install and the extra app features they have are worth the extra time of just replacing the whole lock. The August app requires an extra $50 add on just to use the lock when not attached to WIFI. Also, the door ajar feature doesn't work nearly as well as advertised and is seemed like a gimmick (even after placing the magnet in several different locations for the best result). Honestly, just buy a Kwikset or a Yale lock.

Easy to install and operate
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a simple installation for a nicely performing SmartHome device. Installation is suggested by the folks at August Home and are very well detailed. It took me longer to find my screwdriver that it did to install. Operation is smooth and consistent and very quiet. I like just being able to walk up to the door and having it unlock, makes carrying in heavy packages easier. Nice product

Greatly improved lock with the Wi-Fi built in
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old August Smart lock stop working properly. When I opened the internal components, I ended up breaking the lock ... The old version of the lock required either of the gorbel camera or the wi-Fi box plugged into an outlet inside the house in order to remotely connect to the lock. This lock has Wi-Fi built in. For home kit users, this is a plus because the August line of doorbells is not compatible with home kit. As for the lock itself, it is 25% smaller than its predecessor. The rotation mechanism is much smoother as well. There is an added feature to let one know that the door was closed when locked. However, all improvements come with a cost. The lock now requires CR 123 lithium batteries instead of standard AA alkaline batteries. I do not know how long the batteries will last, but they are much more expensive than AA batteries. Now, let me tell you why I prefer August smart locks. The August smart lock uses the dead bolt already in the door. The mechanism replaces the knob on the inside of the door used to unlock the lock. I read a review it while back that the actual locking mechanism on many smart locks that and down on the outside of the door are not secure. It is easy for a perpetrator to break them and get into the hot.

Super easy install
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to install and operate over the existing door lock. This is huge if you do not want to change your existing lock. Looks a little bulky but not terrible, and I like that you can still operate the lock manually via turning or the key if needed. The big issue will be battery life-it does require 2 special lithium batteries.

Amazing when it works
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the idea of it and it was reported by many sites to be the best door lock for home automation so I got it. However, after having it for almost a month now, I have noticed that it doesn’t work all the time. First, I never got the DoorSense feature to work because it would never get configured in the app. I would do all the steps to configure it and when it got to the finalizing step, it would just sit there with the spinning circle. I would wait for minutes and then have to close and reopen the app after it became unresponsive. So without this feature, I won’t get the alert if the door was left ajar. Another issue I had was that when I use the app to lock/unlock it, it would lag a few seconds, but then do it. However, it would only work the first time. So I would open the app to lock/unlock the door and it would do it after a few seconds, but if I tried to do it again, it becomes unresponsive. I’ve noticed that I would need to close and reopen the app to get it to work. So basically, I would have to close and reopen the app each time just to lock/unlock it. I couldn’t just press the button once to lock it and then again to unlock it or vice versa. Adding to the issues I’ve experienced, the auto-unlock feature only works half the time. It has always notified me once I left the neighborhood (about 2 mins after I drive off), but it does seem to have trouble detecting that I’m arriving home. So sometimes I’ll be approaching the front door and can hear it unlock, but then there are times when I get to the front door and it won’t unlock. Sometimes it’ll unlock once I get to the front door and start looking for the key, but that was the main purpose of me buying this. Then sometimes I’ll just wait a few seconds at the front door hoping that it will finally detect my phone and unlock, but nope. Last, but not least, it doesn’t always work with my Apple HomePod or Google Home Mini. It only works about 25% of the time. The only feature that seems to always work is the auto lock which I’ve set tSo for most of the time, I feel like I bought an overly expensive door lock hoping that I get lucky it works.
