    I have the best internet, all my devices are new, the iPhone and everything, and I’m just saying that so you understand that when I say this is a piece of trash, it’s because it really is. It won’t connect to my google home properly, my iPhone app, nothing. It shows on the app it is locked and it’s actually unlocked. Horrible. Not worth $20.

    As a foundation for this review, I have owned three generations of August locks and as someone who works with IoT, I have been recommending them for years. However, those recommendations end with this current generation. This is the second replacement of this product and HomeKit integration with the 4th generation lock simply doesn't work and their tech support has no clue how to fix it. I've been working with over a dozen people from August for well over a month trying to get past a multitude of problems. Keep in mind, tech support is outside the country and through email, so you get one exchange per day. Try this and get back to us. One day. Your response. Two days. Ok try this. Three days. You get the picture: it's excruciating. I've been escalated to higher level tech support, tested new firmware updates, replaced the lock itself, all with no solution. My latest attempt was to completely delete my multi-year homekit setup to start from scratch with nothing but my generation two and generation four locks. Generation two: setup within seconds and works flawlessly. Generation four: appears to set up but doesn't actually respond from HomeKit though manual control or automations. I love the smaller form factor and built-in wifi capability but until they figure out how to get it to actually work with HomeKit, this lock is useless to me.

    I really like the looks of this lock but the battery life is terrible. I own two of these and both die within 4 to 5 weeks and starts sending annoying messages about battery life. 123 batteries are expensive, very. I would not buy this lock again, give it to a friend or recommend to anybody, not even to an enemy.

    Extremely unhappy with my purchase, i wish i wouldve returned it when i had the instinct to return. I have yet to actually use it to open or close and im already on 2nd replacement of batteries. Awfully disappointed.

    This would constantly disconnect from wifi and was broken within a year when the cheap plastic broke making the lock unsecure. Regrettable purchase

    Setup was easy. I followed the directions outlined in the box: Install the August app, open it up, create an account, and then follow the step by step instructions to swap off the thumb turn with the August lock. I have a Kwikset deadbolt, and the August lock adapted easily to it. Connecting the August lock to wifi was a tad more difficult. My phone was connected via a 5gh network and I had to switch it over to my 2.4gh to get the wifi setup to go through. Even then, something wasn't working right and we couldn't get Apple's Home Kit to talk to the lock. I read some Q and A's on August's website and saw where they suggested to force quit the August app and reopen. Once we did that, setting up Home Kit via our iPhones was a breeze. The August app helps you work through the Home Kit setup which enables you to say, "Hey Siri, please unlock or lock my front door." Siri then tells you, "Working on it" and "Ok, your front door is unlocked." Pretty cool stuff! We tested the wireless functionality using wifi and cell signal with our iPhones and have had no problems getting the lock to respond no matter where we are. We used both the August app and the Home app to lock and unlock, no issues at any point. The lock itself looks and feels heavy duty. I'm not sure if it is made from SS or brushed aluminum, but it is a very handsome lock and looks nice on the front door. Only gripe is the plastic adapter that goes from the deadbolt mechanism to the August lock. I'm always leery about using plastic, as it can wear and break, but hopefully, it will hold up over the years. I really like the August lock. It addresses a need that we've had for ages to be able to cycle a lock open without a key. Keep in mind, a key can still be used; but as long as you have Bluetooth or wireless capabilities, a phone can handle the open and close no problem.

    Worst product ever bought, I wasted 200$. This has battery life of around 1 month, and those batteries cost around 10$. Imagine the cost to keep it running.

    I had lock installed. It won't work something about update firmware update. Ok that was updated still no luck. So after installing and installing the lock. l just bought blink camera set. Been happy that I did.

    I have a rental property out of state, and thought this lock would be great for renters and it integrates with AirBnB. Wrong! I had this lock installed and used it for 3-4 days while I was in town. Cleaning crew used it successfully. I set up guest access for my renter and once they arrived they could not access the unit. I could no longer access the lock either, and the app told me to "recalibrate". Well, I was no longer in the area so that was impossible. I had to overnight a key to my renters at a ridiculous rate. I will be replacing this lock for something more dependable ASAP.
