THE BREAKDOWN:
The Aventon Pace 350 step-through is one of the least expensive electric bikes on the market today. While the power of this bike isn’t the most powerful at 350W motor it does seem quite powerful and efficient with no issues hitting that 20 mph.
Unboxing and setup:
This Aventon Pace 350 comes is single box and was partially assembled. The rear tire was already bolted to the frame which left the front wheel, handlebar and pedals to assemble. Before assembly I went to the Aventon website and watched the video on how to put together this bike. It was very informative unlike the paper instruction that were included with the bike. The assembly was pretty straight forward especially since watching the video. It took about 30 minutes to assemble the bike. I also included pictures of everything that came in the box.
The Bike:
The Pace 350 step through design is quite low at 17 inches allowing a wide range of rider’s easy access to mount the bike. The bike has 300lb weight limit and comes in two different frame sizes to fit riders of different heights. The small frame size is intended for rider’s that are between 4’1” and 5’8” and the medium size frame is for rider’s that are between 5’8” and 6’1”. The seat post has a wide range of adjustment as well as the handlebars. The seat itself was a very good size and very comfortable. The handlebars are a fixed length, but the grips are very ergonomic and comfortable. The bike weighs in at 47lbs and 14oz and is pretty light and easy to maneuver if you have a bike rack. The 7 speed Shimano drive train performed great when testing. The trigger style shifters are easy to use and never failed even when trying to shift multiple times to get it to. The mechanical disc brakes are 180mm rotors for the front and rear and provided plenty of stopping power. I did have a squeaky rear brake at first but once adjusted it worked just fine. Front and rear fenders would have been nice on this bike but if you want them you will have to pay extra.
The range of this bike was around 22 to 23 miles the times that I tested it. I tested this with the throttle only and averaged a speed of 15-16 miles an hour and I am 216lbs. With a battery that is 417.6Wh this is pretty good. I feel like this is definitely a contender at these numbers.
The power from the Pace 350’s 350W brushless motor was not quite as powerful as others that I have rode but with less torque and slower acceleration gives the battery longer life. This motor makes this bike considered a Class 2 bike with a top speed of 20mph. One thing about this bike is you actually have to pedal a few times before the motor will actually start working. For me I thought this was not a very good feature. This model bike has 5 pedal assist levels, at level one the top speed is 10 mph, level three is 14mph and level 5 is 20mph. I thought the shifts in output levels were smooth with little to jerking. The Pace 350 accelerates reasonably fast and does maintain speeds well but doesn’t really have the torque of the larger motors. For cruising the neighborhood or riding on flat paved ground this bike is amazing. The throttle of this bike is on the left which is a weird place to have it. Growing up all my dirt bikes and ATV’s had the throttle on the right and this takes some getting used to.
The LCD user interface was very simple and easy to use. It had a nice display that was large enough to read easily and centrally located at the middle of the handlebars. I found that the display was easy to read even in the bright sunlight. The screen also has an adjustable backlight that is for use at night.
The battery is also easily removed for charging or safety. It also has a locking feature.
Riding the bike was simply a joy. I was pleased at how smooth the ride was even without shock absorbers. With the tires, Shimano gearing, disc brakes, comfortable seat and pedal assist this was an absolute pleasure to ride. My kids love to ride this as well.
PRO’s:
- LCD Display that is bright and has backlight
- Step-through-frame
- Pedal assist
- Locking and removing battery
- Comes in different sizes
- Disc brakes
CON’s:
- Throttle on left side
- Could use more torque for bigger people
SUMMARY:
Overall, this product worked as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for bike like this.

The Aventon Pace 350, large, step-through E-Bike is the first bike I’ve had in over ten years and I am very pleased with the choice.
Unboxing and Setup
The bike comes semi-assembled in a single box. In anticipation of the assembly, I watched the recommended “How to assemble” video on the Aventon website. Aside from a flat screwdriver for the box staples and scissors (or wire cutters) for the zip ties, all the needed tools are included. After opening the top of the box and removing the foam blocks from each end, I was able to lift the entire bike components out of the box. Though I do recommend having two people for an easier lift. All of the components are strapped together in a single bundle. There are two small accessory boxes in the bottom of the box as well. Even though the how-to video described attaching the rear tire, brake caliper, and derailleur, the bike came with these pre-installed. The total time to assemble the bike while watching and pausing the how-to video, took about an hour.
The Bike
The bike is very sturdy and has smooth welds at the joints. I have the white, step-through model, which means I don't have to jump half my body over to get on the seat. The tires are 27.5" by 2.2", Kwick Seven-5, made by Kenda. The seat is wide and not uncomfortable, but might be the first thing I replace for a little more comfort. The cranks and pedals are sturdy aluminum and the kick-stand is heavy duty. The handlebar grips are solid rubber with a nice texture. Gearing is a top quality Shimano derailleur and gears. Mechanical disc brakes are on both wheels. Cabling for the controls and electronics is high quality and durable.
The Controls
Up and down finger shifters are on the right handlebar. Power switch, electric accelerator, and Pedal Assist level buttons are on the left handlebar. Disc brake controls are on both sides of the handlebar. An LCD display sits on top of the handlebars in the middle. After putting a full charge on the battery and inflating the tires to 45lbs each, I did a safety check of the seat, pedals, gearing, brakes and handlebars. The battery easily clips onto the bike frame and is in a position that does not get in the way. The LCD display is very clear and easy to read. It shows Energy left in the battery, the speed, the Pedal Assist level, and an odometer. Power is provided by inserting one of the keys, pressing the power button on the battery, then holding in the “M” button on the left PAS control to turn on the LCD display. While the bike is in PAS levels 1-5 a long press of the Down button will put the bike into Walk Mode. A brief push of the M button will step through Trip A, Trip B, Voltage, and how long the bike has been on. Pressing both UP and DOWN provides the ability to change the background light level, distance type (KMH/MPH), wheel size, and Max speed.
Riding
Riding the Pace 350 is a real pleasure. I am impressed with how smooth the ride is without any shock absorbers. I'm guessing it is due to the tires. Also impressed with the smooth gear changes. The forward lever is for shifting up and the back lever is for shifting down. Rarely did I hear the derailleur move into a different gear. I put 13 miles on the bike before writing this review and the battery is only down 25%. I found I am most comfortable with the Pedal Assist set to 2. It allows me to still get a bit of a workout with enough of a motor assist to not overwork me. When using the electric accelerator I was surprised at the amount of kick the motor has. At a full PAS setting of 5 the bike moves along at a good clip of around 20 miles per hour without any peddling. When going up hills, depending on how steep, I kick up the PAS to 3 for a little extra help while dropping the gearing down. On a downhill run I reached 32 MPH and the disc brakes did an excellent job of slowing me down to a stop. When using PAS, the motor will kick in a second after peddling starts. If I use the accelerator, the response is immediate. When the PAS level is set to 0, it’s just me and the pedals, without any help, and still a pleasure to ride. Though when I do go for a long, peddling journey, I’ll be sure to keep enough juice to get me back home.
Summary
For the price, the incredible quality of this bike is commendable. The sturdy aluminum frame contributes to the quality while keeping the weight down to a manageable 47 pounds. I am impressed with the strength of the motor and the endurance of the slim mounted battery. My only slight ding is the effort it takes to figure out how to remove the battery. But once you get the hang of it, it comes off nicely. Though it can be recharged while clipped to the bike. I highly recommend the Aventon Pace 350 bike to anyone experienced or new to the electric bike world. You won’t be sorry.

Great Value for Casual Riders
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Pace 350 is a great entry level eBike that is a wonderful option for casual riders who want a fun bike with just enough power to ensure riding is simple, easy, and fun. Aventon has kept the cost down by striping off nearly all accessories. The bike does not come with a drink / water bottle holder, an accessory rack, fenders, or a headlight - and sadly there is no option to charge personal electronic devices from the 36V battery. I was also frustrated to find that there is no quick release skewer / bolt on the front tire (which means taking the tire off to change a flat, or to place it in a car is quite a chore).
Most of the components are high quality, but the speed controls feel cheap - especially the plastic throttle. But, the seat is heavily padded, the handlebars have a comfortable grip, the screen is easy to read, gears and breaks are easy to use, and the kickstand is large, springy, and stable. The lack of a top tube on the step through version is surprisingly convenient making the bike easier to mount for shorter riders. And, the bike is still easy to carry - though it does weigh in at a moderate 47 lbs.
The bike does come mostly assembled although it is important to keep in mind that you may need to take it to a bike shop to ensure the Pace 350 is correctly assembled and all components are working properly. Aventon has some good assembly tutorials on YouTube, but unless you have a good amount of experience with bikes - odds are good that you will need help fine tuning the breaks, derailleur, etc.
Definitely make sure that you take advantage of Best Buy’s pricing guarantee. The Pace 350 seems to cost the same from most online retailers, but it is refreshing to know that Best Buy guarantees the best price for 30 days from purchase and also allows customers to return online purchases at a physical Best Buy locations - which is MUCH cheaper and more convenient than mailing the bike back (if you can even manage to get it back into the box).
Overall, I happily recommend the bike to casual riders. The Pace 350 doesn’t have a lot of torque, but it has great pedal assist and makes riding so easy that returning to a manual bike feels like you’re trying to pedal uphill through deep mud. Most importantly, the Pace 350 has made my wife excited to ride with the family - which is all I can truly ask for. Just look at how much fun she is having in all of the pictures!

A joy to ride!

I hadn’t ridden a bicycle in the last 30 years but thought this Ebike looked like it could be a lot of fun. In the few days of good weather I’ve had to play with it, I was right—it’s a lot of fun! The range and power of the battery and little electric motor is super impressive. I weigh about 210 and the bike had no trouble pulling me up any hill I attempted (assuming I was in the right gear). Being able to pedal on the flat areas and coast downhill, but then use the motor to zoom up hills like magic is just incredible. I can’t wait for warmer weather to go on some longer rides.
The bike shipped in a box about 5’x3’x1’ and weighing 68 pounds. The box was a little bigger than I expected, but that’s because it came with the rear wheel already assembled which was great! They have a very good video to watch for assembly, and you can skip a good portion of it because the rear wheel is already on. Also, they did include the special wrench, an Allen wrench set, and a packet of grease which was nice. I think it took me about 30 minutes to unpack and assemble everything. One thing you’ll definitely need that’s not included is a tire pump to air up the tires.
The one small criticism I have is the very light documentation that came with the bike. Maybe most people buying one of these is already very familiar with bikes, but since I hadn’t touched one in about 30 years I felt a little puzzled at times. For example, I didn’t see any details explaining how to shift gears or safely brake (rear first). There also weren’t any specifics on how to use the throttle and what exactly the up/down arrows would do besides turning the power assist on and off. I did see more details later in the online version of the user manual, so it would have been nice if they included a printed copy of that manual. However, after about 10 minutes of riding around I figured everything out and was very comfortable with it.
A pair of reflectors are included in the box, but I didn’t see any instructions for installing. Again, this is probably a no-brainer for everyone used to bikes, but I spent a little time trying to figure out the best place to put them and just hoped I put them in the right locations.
The only tiny glitch during assembly that I ran into was I noticed the front wheel was slightly rubbing on the brake pad during part of its revolution. I wasn’t sure what to adjust at first and I didn’t see anything in the instructions that mentioned having to do that. But after a couple minutes of staring at it, I realized there was a nice big bolt to adjust with an Allen wrench that moved the brake pad away from the disk just a tiny bit. That solved the problem, and I’ll include a picture of that.
The battery comes off the bike (using a key to unlock it) for charging with the included charger. I didn’t time it, but I think it took a couple hours to top off the battery from the level out of the box. The charger definitely heats up during charging. I measured it at 130 degrees, so you’ll want to make sure you put it somewhere away from everything else and with good ventilation.
Once the battery’s charged and you install it back in the bike you’re ready to go. I practiced riding around for a while shifting and going different speeds just to get the feel of the bike without any power at first. Then I started testing the pedal assist. It took a little getting used to since it sort of surges ahead when you peddle. There seems to be just a slight delay shutting off when you stop pedaling, so I had to be careful when coming up to a stop sign. After a while I got used to it and it wasn’t a problem.
Using the throttle and not pedaling, though, is where the real fun begins. Once you get going, you can use your left thumb on the throttle (I’ll include pictures) and very easily control your speed. Pressing down goes faster and letting up slows down. To me, this was a lot smoother way to come up to a stop sign. When you’re zooming along on throttle, though, it can be easy to forget what gear you’re in until you hear the motor straining a little. I found I needed to pedal occasionally to make sure I was in the appropriate gear and then shift up or down if I wasn’t. Coming to a stop, you definitely don’t want to be in the top gear when you start out again.
As I said before, now I can’t wait for Spring weather to really start taking the bike out on some longer rides. Now that they can pack all that power in a reasonably-sized battery, this seems like a revolutionary change for biking. Now, I know I’ll actually get out and ride places at my age when otherwise I would never have gotten on a bicycle at all. This little Ebike really is a joy to ride!

My favorite bike!!

What can I say about this beautiful bicycle, except how much I love it! We loved this bike so much my husband went out a few days later and bought another Aventon bike. The bike assist is absolutely the best thing that has been added on to a bicycle, besides baby seat accessories…ok maybe phone holders too. The amethyst color is so pretty. It really is even prettier in person. Enough gushing about the bike and I will get into some specific details of what the bike offers that makes me love it so much. Keep in mind, my family has been riding bikes for quite a few years now, so we are not new to the game. My son is 10 and we started riding all over Long Beach since he was a baby, with a kangaroo carrier and our oldest on her own bike. We aren’t cross country riders, but we get in some miles. Now, let me get on with what I love about this bike.
The bike came out of the box almost full assembled. It took about 30 min to take the pieces out, read instructions and assemble the parts that were not attached. If you are handy with a bike, this part should be easy and even if you are not handy, it is pretty simple. Make sure you check the tire pressure and brakes after assembly. My tires needed air and that was easy of course, but the brakes needed tightening and since we are not very familiar with electric bike we took it to a bike shop to check the brakes but that was after I took it for a few rides. The battery was 1 block charged straight out of the box and it took about 5 hours to get it up to a complete charge. We took it for a few rides near our house and the battery is still going strong.
I never thought twice about electric bikes because I love the work out on a regular bike. I didn’t want to take the exercise out of riding by switching to an electric bike. I was wrong in assuming you cannot get a good workout from an electric bike. The bike assist allows you to ride and when you are tired, assist you as you continue to pedal. It is so much fun riding and having the ability to go fast and enjoy the wind blowing in your face. This will allow us to ride farther and not feel exhausted on the ride back. It can assist you up the hill against the wind at the beach or when you just need some help after a long day’s ride. You also have the option to use the throttle which will pedal for you if you just need a break all together. What a beautiful invention. I am just sorry we are just realizing this now. The bike assist has 5 levels. At level 1 you go at a pretty good speed while still pedaling and getting a workout in. We used 1 to go up a hill and it worked great so we could go on. Level 5 picks up your speed by a lot and for me, that is a fun speed to just be on for fun long stretches of open land.
I am 5’9” about 170lbs and the medium is perfect for me. My husband is 5’11” and about 270lbs and he rode around on my Pace 350 (medium size) just fine until he purchased the Level step through a few days later which is even better for him. The seat it comes with is also surprisingly comfortable. I have always owned a cruiser so the seat I’m used to is wider, but this seat is not bad at all.
I love the display screen so you can see how many miles you have completed and how much battery life is left before the next charge. Don’t even let me get started on the accessories and attachments you can add. We just bought a seat for our 4-year-old and even though it is behind my seat (and not in the front of me as I prefer) it is working out great. I also purchased a phone holder for my bike, and it fits perfectly and works beautifully. I am looking forward to warmer days and longer rides. This bike is going to make bike riding to the park, beach, or some beautiful trails a great experience for the whole family.

I had my ebike for over a year now. So far so good. It still runs like when I first bought it. It is so fun to ride. The battery last long and it enables me to finish my bike trail without running out on me and that is a two-hour bike ride. I highly recommend. .

My first e-bike and after testing much more expensive models over the last few weeks I think I purchased the right one. The Pace 350 is easy to use, pretty easy to assemble (watch out for that motor protector piece) and has already made my commute to work much easier. The only thing I don't like is that the key is required to remove the battery ALL OF THE TIME and the handlebars don't have a lot of room for accessories like a light or cell phone holder. Other than that it runs smooth and definitely gives you a smile when you let it take over and run.
