I needed a new camera when the one on my laptop quit. This was a little more money than what I wanted to pay but I’m very pleased with it. The image looks good on Zoom and Teams calls. It’s a wide image so I had to move around some items behind me to get them out of the picture. The instruction book has a website that’s supposed to allow you to download the software to change some features on the camera but I haven’t had a need for that yet. My laptop screen is thin so I was a little worried about the camera not fitting it but after a few tilts up and down I got it in the right place and the thing hasn’t moved.

Super easy to set up. Plug n play. The mic is good quality as is the camera. The privacy slide is great. I bought this because the more expensive one was on back order. Super happy with this one.

This was a first purchase for webcasting of our church worship service. It was an inexpensive investment into what we needed to know for any future, more professional equipment.
Camera does not have a zoom feature, but auto-focus is very good. Even in low light, image is as full lighting. Build-in microphone is very good up to about 10 feet.
Plug'n'play.

When I first installed this webcam, it worked fine on MS Teams, Skype and GoToMeeting. But on Zoom calls, it flickered badly to the point of unusability. Then I gave up for a weekend went away, and on the Monday it worked fine on Zoom and everything else.
Home run.

Wonderful for a webcam for working from home. Comes with a way to adjust camera settings and can either be propped up or on the laptop. Love the privacy cover, only wish it didn’t cover one of the microphones. No super wide camera angle either, which I like.

Grainy; Poor Light Handling

Now that I've fiddled with the cam engine software enough, I have a webcam picture that is decent enough quality for zoom business meetings, which is my primary purpose.
I said "decent enough", not good. Decent enough that I've stopped going online constantly to find something better (but due to the pandemic, webcams are scarce).
I expected video clarity on par with my Android smart phone. Totally do away with that expectation. They are not even remotely in the same ball park.
My Android S9+ is 12 megapixels, can auto focus, and adjusts for lighting conditions.
This AverMedia web cam is 2 megapixels, fixed focus, and does not adjust for light. The video image shows these shortcomings. The picture is grainy. And, the light exposure is poor.
If you are near a window during daylight, lit areas of your head are grossly over-exposed, almost to a psychedelic degree (though I was finally able to get this toned down with the second set of CamEngine software that I installed)
As of 2020-08-27, AverMedia has two utilities that you can download and install for this web cam:
- AVerMedia CamEngine Lite(Win) v1.0.0.1
- AVerMedia CamEngine (Win) v2.0.0.51
I tried the Lite first. I never could get a reasonable picture no matter how much I tweaked. Plus, if I tried again, the software would ask if the cam was plugged in.
Next, I tried the CamEngine (Win) v2.0.0.51. This went quite a bit better. I was finally able to tweak the settings enough to get a picture I didn't hate. Also, the software didn't lose track of the cam.
The light handling is better, not great, just better. The picture is still grainy. I also have a slight sensation of frame rate jitter, as if maybe the frame rate is only BARELY there for full motion video. It's supposed to be 30 fps. Maybe it is. Subjectively, I sense that it's lagging.
I almost forgot to mention color. Looks cheap and over processed. I was finally able to tweak it down to something I don't hate. But nobody would choose this if a better option was available.
Worth eighty bucks? If you are hard up due to no decent web cams being available, get it, tweak it, and do your zoom meetings. But when better cams become available again, I'd take a pass on this one.

The setup is exactly what we needed for our small group meeting. The microphone picks up each voice from around the room - up to 15 feet away - with minimal degradation in volume or clarity. The camera is exactly what you'd expect at this price point, but we are very pleased with the surprisingly good sound quality.

This is my first webcam. Frankly, I bought this because very few options were available (pandemic). I have no complaints. I recorded myself playing autoharp on it and the sound was good. Camera is fine for Zoom conferences. With light adjustments, I'm okay with how I look, which is the point, I guess.

Was excited to compare this to my current external webcam with lower definition. The video quality DOES look better. Smoother, and I look better. Alas, you really need a tripod or something. This webcam barely sits on the monitor and won't easily turn up or down -- it has no hinge for that so you have to hope it balances while you have your online meeting or record or whatever. I wanted to give it a full chance and tried to download its added-feature software. My anti-virus program flagged the download so I stopped. Bummer all around.

This camera is incredible for the price point. Everyone can see my acne and the fact that I haven’t swept the cabinets in weeks, and the audio(which was most important to me) is crystal clear.
