I was holding off on any review of mine thinking it was a me issue. However, after coming to Best Buy to look at Black Friday sales, I saw the ratings on this and realized, it wasn't a Me issue, it was the camera issue. As many others have said, I have a pretty beefy rig so quality of PC is NOT an issue here. I had been using the logitech 922 but wanted to start making some youtube videos and the reviews on this blew me away! I thought this would be the perfect camera for that! Welp, I was wrong. The first time I got it started, it looked like it was snowing in my screen from the bad picture quality. I plugged my logitech in, and everything looked a million times better. I contacted AVerMedia, they said, need more light (which is strange cause I have a lot more than most of the youtube videos I watched on the review of this. Put another Elgato light up and guess what? Still grainy and unusable video quality. I felt I saw better view 10 years ago then what this had. With that said, I will be returning my as it is unusable for making a Youtube video.

    Garbage Software, Terrible Customer Service

While I believe the camera itself could be something good, I wouldn't know given the software is a steaming pile of garbage, with additional features locked behind a membership and/or social media permissions. Not to mention their customer service is incompetent. I really want to like this webcam but I should have known it was too good to be true. Avoid at all costs, I got this thing $100 off and I wouldn't consider that enough, take your money elsewhere.

Fantastic webcam for streamers who want and upgrade without spending $500+ one a real cam! I personally have no regrets about this purchase. Here is a link to the review video i did comparing this to the old logitech 1080p webcam i had. https://youtu.be/4w-OIVBmIpY

Can’t rate as of yet, have not set up for the format I’m trying to accomplish. Brought because I didn’t want to buy another DSLR camera, so I hope I made the right decision.. Will revisit after testing.

I can't recommend this product. I know it's probably good for someone, and I'm glad it is, but I am beyond disappointed. Used this camera on a Mac that met all of the required specs on Avermedia's site. I saw and read reviews that explained what's required to create a good picture, and was ready to work on it. After playing with this camera for several days, I'm struggling to get a decent, clear, smooth picture with proper colors on either it's recommended software, with the updated firmware and software, or with OBS. It's barely better than the camera on my Mac. After reaching out to the company on day 1, I finally heard back 5 days later, and their response was to send me a link to someone on YouTube who had tinkered with the camera's settings and STILL didn't recommend the camera. They then said that I should search YouTube to learn from other streamer's experiences. No. Just no. I'm returning this and not looking back.

Great product for beginners in streaming or for professional video calls, etc. Price is little expensive but it is worth it. Downside if it is they don't provide usb c to usb c cable if you are using latest macbooks.

I have used a mirrorless camera before and was looking for something that would be easier to keep up and connect to my gaming PC. This camera offers nowhere near the quality the youtube reviewers made it seem like. Even in good light, there was so much noise in the shadow even after making adjustments in software. Plus the Avermedia software doesn't even recognize this camera.

AVerMedia Live Streamer CAM513 I received the CAM513 through the Best Buy Technical Insider Network. I’m doing quite a few web meetings these days and have wanted to try some camera alternatives. Summary: It works right out of the box (I only tested it on a MacBook Pro) The video quality is very good and audio is also good. It has a physical camera cover for peace of mind regarding privacy The CAM513 is very easy to setup for use. My first attempt was with a Apple USB-C to USB-C cable that I had on hand, since my MacBook Pro only has USB-C ports. The camera powered up, but I received an error message on the screen telling me to use a USB 3.0 cable. So, I plugged the USB-C to USB-A cable that came with the camera into my MacBook Pro via a USB-A to USB-C adapter. After I connected it using the provided cable and my adapter cable the CAM513 powered up and was ready to use. There are no drivers or software to load. The camera just appears in the menus for FaceTime and Zoom, ready to be used. (Update: I found an Anker brand USB-C to USB-C cable that I had on hand and that cable worked fine with the CAM513. I am a happy CAMper. I did some self video exploration and eventually arranged a FaceTime call with a friend. We compared the CAM513 to the embedded camera in a MacBook Pro that I purchased during the summer of 2020. The CAM513 offers a significantly wider field of view than the embedded front camera on my MacBook Pro. For a one on one FaceTime, I actually think the embedded cameras narrower field of view is better. With the CAM513 it was more of a one on “room” FaceTime. I became just part of the image rather than the dominant part of the image. However, I could see where this wider field of view would be good for a multi person (on my end) conversation and for streaming other types of video. The video quality was significantly better. Though some might argue that being able to see more wrinkles and pores is not an improvement! The audio is also good as reported by my friend on the other end. He said he thought the embedded MacBook Pro microphone might have delivered slightly deeper audio, than the CAM513, but both were very good. I like the builtin mechanical privacy shield. I can simply rotate the privacy shield down and the camera lens is physically blocked. This gives some peace of mind that the evil eye isn’t watching us with the help of some hacker, when we are not looking. One “con” that I noticed, is the camera is just heavy enough to cause my MacBook Pro screen to title backward by itself. If I have the MacBook screen tilted back a little bit, it is OK, but there is a critical point where the center of gravity and weight of the camera causes my screen to fall back to its physical backstop. I did find there is an application (CamEngine 3.0.) that pairs with this camera on the AVerMedia web site. There is only a LITE version for the Mac. It is still beta software and doesn’t seem to do much yet. In fact, it seems a little sketchy because it requested to capture keystrokes from “any application” which I declined. So overall, I’d say for most of my purposes my MacBook Pro camera and microphone are adequate for most of my requirements, but this camera should be very handy for certain situations and on my Mac mini which doesn’t have a camera…and should also be a great choice when more than one person wants to participate on the same end of a video call. I’d recommend it to anyone who needs a camera or better camera than the one embedded in their computer.

I am giving it a bad review because it wouldn't work because usb 3.0 is received but my motherboard usb ports are 3.1 so it was working with any port resulting of it not working at all. I couldn't find a solution online that could possibly fix this considering that this webcam has been out for a while. I don't think there is firmware that has fixed this issue. This is my experience but I'm aware that for others they could have a different experience. I would like to see if this could be fixed so I returned it. Hopefully you have a better experience the webcam looked great when watching YouTube videos about it but just know you've been warned.

Maybe I got a bad one but this camera heats up wicked bad. It gets hot very quickly and it stays hot unless I unplug it. Unfortunately I didn’t realize this until the return period was over. Everything else is great tho

Tried using Google Meet on a Macbook Pro with an external monitor through which the audio is routed. Whenever I was unmuted and others were trying to talk Their sound would loop back through my system and cause noise for everyone in the call. The cheap Logitech C615 I was using before this did not have that problem.

LIke many, I've been working at home through webinars and video meetings. I am an advisor at a college and we meet with students all day, create podcasts and record workshops and info sessions. My laptop has a great camera, but it's hard to change the angle without moving the laptop. When it's high enough to properly video ME, the keyboard is too high to type! I had an old 720p camera, so I was ready to move up! The AVermedia camera worked as advertised! This camera has weight and is hefty, unlike my old one, so it is not going to fall off the monitor if the cord is bumped. It worked flawlessly without any setup or downloads and I wish I had gotten it sooner! I placed it on my monitor and it worked! This camera is fully five inches wide and the rubberized parts that allow it to clip on the monitor are also wider than many other cameras at two inches wide. This provides a lot a stability. camera itself is on a gimble which allows you to adjust it to any angle. This is great when you get it on the monitor, but your face is not centered! I found that a tripod mounting works best for me and allows flexibility of moving it. The stereo microphones pick up sound very well and I queried my students about the audio, and also watched recordings and it was fine for those purposes. I regular mic would be preferred for recorded events or podcasts with more than one person. The picture quality is grand! It is a memory hog, so users need to be aware of that, but the high end picture is great. The software allows you to adjust contrast, color, etc easily. So much better than a laptop cam. Be sure you have a usb 3.0 plug and enough bandwidth to use the camera and you will be pleased with this one!

COVID-19 has really brought out a new set of needs for ‘average Joes,’ a good number of whom work remotely for some or all of their workday. I’m one of those people, and while I’m no streamer I thought, hey, maybe a really high quality webcam would be a good tool to add to my current setup. Things couldn’t be further from the truth, although I did learn a couple of key details in this process that I think could be helpful to some people. First—if you think (like I did) that this is a good product for your everyday teleworker, you’re wrong. Nearly all users in this situation will be better served by purchasing a regular external webcam for $60 or less. The AVerMedia PW513 is a phenomenal camera that produces excellent video quality, but you have to have the resources to handle that kind of input—and your standard Zoom or Teams meetings will just downscale the quality. Second—this is a massively wide-angle camera. I replaced an aging Logitech Webcam with this, probably between 7 and 10 years old. In that much time, camera trends are that a more wide-angle picture is preferred over less wide-angles, and I immediately noticed a stark difference when firing up the PW513 for the first time. Almost the entire room I’m in was captured in the background—and that’s a great thing if it’s what you’re after, but for me, it was more than I wanted. I made some adjustments to the room I’m in to compensate. Third—even if you are crazy enough to buy this solely for telework, you need a Windows computer to make full use of the software. The Mac software is perfectly functional, but comes in a ‘lite’ version only unless you’re on Windows. That said, the Windows software does allow for things like crop and zoom, and although the download is currently a ‘beta’ it functioned without problems. Fourth—the microphones are not great. They’re not bad, but when compared to the image quality, the sound pickup is not on par with the price tag. This isn’t a huge deal, as I imagine most streamers will have audio and video capture both happening through separate channels. Still, when using the onboard microphones, I was asked a few times if I was “using the built in microphone” on my laptop. The unit was only about two feet from me at the time, at eye level. From a design perspective, excluding the mics and saving a few bucks would have been nice, since I don’t think many will make use of them. I’m sure some of you will read this and think, ‘that dude thought this was going to be a good webcam…how silly.’ And perhaps it is silly, but also a valuable lesson that sometimes products are built for a niche for a reason. So in the end, I’d encourage you to fully investigate the system requirements for running the CamEngine software before continuing with a purchase. Still, as far as streaming is concerned, it would make a great video capture device—maybe even for reaction Youtubers and the like—provided you have the system to support it. And considering getting into that game with a basic DSLR is $500 on the low end, the price tag of $250 is not overkill in my eyes…I think this could be a great starter cam for the streamer or Youtuber alike.

This is a poor quality sensor requiring blinding amounts of light to not look like blurry trash. The software is unusable. Not sure if they only tested on Windows 7 or something but it won't even run on Windows 10. Not even good enough as a live stream cam for Twitch, viewers complained it was fuzzy! Stick with a smarter alternative like epoccam. This camera is NOT good enough for youtube video production and NOT good enough for live streaming despite the product name. Save your money and time.
