AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER CAP 4K - USB 3.0 - BLACK
MODEL:BU113
Best Buy Tech Insider Network
EASY FLEXIBLE 4K USB3 CAPTURE CAM/RECORD/STREAM
OVERALL
It could not be any easier for basic capture/webcam use. Just plug in the AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER (win 10), connect it to an HDMI source like a camera or video recorder (or another PC), and boom you are in business, you now have a super high quality (up to 4K) webcam / capture device. At this point you can use your own software and it will see your device as a camera (like a webcam) for zoom, skype, teams, etc.
Or, if you want to use the AVERMEDIA free software you can do some recording / mixing streams on the screen, resizing, combining video from different sources, etc. You can even do webcam tricks like animal ears if that is your thing. If you create a free account on AVERMEDIA you can unlock the special effects (like bunny ears) as well “AI PTZ” which among other things, will keep your face center of the screen as you move around in meetings or streaming sessions.
SETUP
The hardest part of the setup (and there was nothing hard) was trying to find where I put the HDMI cable for my 4K video camera (nothing to do with the BU113). I could not find the original cable that came with my camera, so I used a Micro HDMI to HDMI adapter I had laying around. Now instead of a 10 year old webcam or the horrible webcam I have built into my laptop, I can use a 4K camera for work as well as streaming and recording.
RECORDING / LIVE STREAMING
To get to the advanced features of the AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER you should download the AVerMedia Assist Central software. It will identify your device, update the firmware, and install the webcam software AVerMedia CamEngine (special effects) and the RECentral_4 software for capturing and recording / streaming.
I won’t go too much into the software, it is a little clunky but you can get the job done. I was easily able to capture and combine video from the 4K video camera, my desktop, and a second laptop set at 4K. One tip I have is that if you only have one screen then you need to put the content you want to record in a new window and change that source to “application window” instead of desktop. I never could get “record desktop to work”, even with a second screen. It was always creating an infinite mirror effect of the RECentral screen, not the underlaying desktop or second screen. But, windowed mode worked fine in my testing with Doom Eternal. I’m sure with a little more experimentation I can get the RECentral to work in desktop mode as well. I did find the manual for RECentral online. It seems to have lots of features to explore.
VIDEO and AUDIO QUALITY
Of course, it depends upon your source equipment, but the audio and video quality exceeded my expectations. The RECentral software lets you easily switch between stored camera views/effects, as well as audio sources. One minor annoyance was that it seems the RECentral software only lets you select from AVERMEDIA attached devices. In other words, it would not recognize 3rd party webcams or the laptop’s built-in webcam, which would have been nice to swap cameras around as needed. But hey, free software so I was not expecting much anyway.
SOME GEEK STUFF
One tip is that if you are feeding HDMI from another laptop (or phone) into the AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER, you will probably have to turn off HDMI security HDCP in your video driver of your source computer to make it work properly. Each computer / video card maker is a little different, so you can look it up.
The AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER will not remove HDCP from your source (eg a DVD / BluRay / UHD) player.
SUMMARY / CONCLUSION / RECOMMENDATION
I have another cheap USB capture device, that is only USB2 and only supports 1080P. The AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER is superior in every way. It is well built and it just works out of the box.
The available free software allows for more control over the captured image as well as some basic mixing of sources for recording or streaming. I had no issues in my testing and the results were great. I plan to use the AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER for my daily webcam meetings at work, and whenever I want to record higher quality content for streaming (live or recorded).
I recommend the AVERMEDIA - LIVE STREAMER for the casual user up to intermediate and some advanced streamers, especially if they have their own "mixing" software.

The streamer lives up to all the high reviews it’s got, but it almost didn’t for me.
The problem I had was an extreme audio delay when using AVerMedia RECentral 4. Not only was there a delay during live monitoring but the longer you recorded video the longer the delay got during playback. Over 15 seconds on a 3-minute video. I tried Adobe Premiere Elements and it was the same result with chunky low rez video. However, it was Not a problem when streaming to YouTube.
RECentral updated after I downloaded it and ran it from AVerMedia’s site. Did I get an old version? I thought I got the latest the first time. I tried all the adjustments for audio delay and nothing worked. I got back on it another evening uninstalling and reinstalling the software. I found a file (Cam Engine) I missed the first time and that proved to be the cure to my problems. So, make sure you get the files below for a Windows PC and install them in the order below.
Product manufacturer link: https://www.avermedia.com/us/product-detail/BU113
AVerMedia_CamEngine_Installer_v4.0.58.4
AVerMedia_Assist_Central_V1.1.0.11
RECentral_4_v4.7.26.1_x64
Once I had it working correctly, I tried it with various, USB ports, settings and cameras. Canon EOS R, 6D, 70D and EOS M. Only the EOS R has 4K. No problem with any of them with the Cap 4K.
I used the ASUS - ROG Strix G15 I reviewed earlier this year. I used a USB A port on the side which is a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A and it failed to find the device. Same for going through my Onn USB 3.0 Hub that’s connected to the USB A 3.2 port at the rear of the PC. Connecting it to the USB C port was the only way I got it to work on that PC. I didn’t try it on my Asus ZenBook. As for the hub, it’s probably that it’s an inexpensive USB 3.0 Hub. A different brand of Hub that’s USB 3.2 might work. I only use the Hub for my Logitech G910 keyboard and wireless mouse to free up my other ports for my card reader and USB HDs.
Max Supported Resolutions (Video Input): 2160p60 HDR/ 1440p144/ 1080p60
Max Recording Resolution: 2160p30/ 1080p60 HDR
However, I was able to stream to YouTube via a browser at 720p which isn’t listed. That might be good for times you have a slower connection. Say you’re streaming via 4G mobile or at a location with a slower connection than your primary location. I have fiber internet and every resolution worked perfect me. No noticeable lag. Worked perfect with OBS.
Video quality looked excellent. Very clean and clear as was the audio. The latter will depend on whether you’re using the camera’s mics or a microphone and its proper placement and any needed EQ-ing.
The product feels well-made and is very light weight. A USB type-A cable is included but you might need a C to C type like I did. An HDMI cable is not included. Note that there’s Mini HDMI and Micro HDMI. My Canon cameras use Mini HDMI. Check your camera to see what HDMI cable you will need.
Simple to connect, setup and use. Recommended.

Great For My Streams, If It Only Had A Micro USB

I really do love streaming my games on You tube and I have thought that it would be cool to use my external camera to show myself from a different angle than that of my standard embedded web cam. I use a 4K camera to film all of my scripted videos on my channel and now I can use that very camera to shoot me while I'm playing games and live streaming. I can do chat with my subscribers without looking awkward from the reverse view that my laptop camera displays. I can place the camera pretty much anywhere now. It's easy to set up, as the instructions are super easy to follow and get you up and going. The only problem is, you'll need another cable to connect from your camera to your CAP. that's going to run you anywhere from $7 to $35 bucks, depending on where you go to get it. However, after doing your research, you should be able to get one and be up and streaming in no time at all. It works on just about any camera. I use either my Sony Handicam or my Nikon B500 shooter. They both work great. But again, it does help to get the right connector cable for your external camera. I just feel like AverMedia could've placed that extra cable in the box. Other CAPs have the same issue though, so I won't harp on it too much. But I do recommend it if you plan on streaming, and you don't want to use your webcam. It's great buy.

Simply plugging HDMI to one side and the included USB-C to USB-A cable to the computer on the other side you can be up and running. Using a DSLR or other camera that can do HDMI out and you now have a webcam for streaming or recording. Using something like OBS it instantly recognizes it as Live Streamer CAP 4K as an input device. You can install the AVermedia RECentral 4 and AVermedia CamEngine to use their tools for capture, streaming and various overlays, but I find it easier and more resources are available to use OBS. Using this device is better for capturing larger spaces, like full body green screen capture, because typical webcams don’t have the wide angle you can get with a DSLR.
At 1080p on my camera, I noticed very little to no delay in the video, but increasing it to 4K had some latency between movement and display on screen. This can be compensated on streams and recordings, but still a few microseconds. Most streams aren’t going to be at 4K anyways, it’s just nice to have that room to make the most out of what you have. Besides, 1080p@60 and HDR is nice.
Overall, simple quick way to use digital camera for your computer recording needs.

A simple, but high quality capture device

The AverMedia BU113 fits the bill for a quality, low-latency HDMI capture device. I had a similar Elgato device that recently died, and this came along at just the right time to replace it.
The most important thing to note is that it has no passthrough, so if you're looking for something specifically for game streaming (as through a console) then this might not be for you depending on your setup, but I've been successful at using it for that purpose alongside a webcam as the latency is so low that I genuinely can't perceive any lag when playing a console hooked up to it.
The device was immediately detected by my system as a webcam, but I did have some trouble getting it to show up properly until I installed AverMedia's CamEngine software, after which it worked as expected. The RECentral 4 software is moderately robust and easy to work with, if you don't already have something set up for streaming. You can connect to different services like Twitch, Facebook, Youtube, etc, and save a backup as you stream, which is a nice feature. You're able to use multiple video sources, including your desktop, and organize and adjust each picture in the UI.
If you have a video card that supports it, there are some effects like background blur/replacement available using Nvidia Broadcast's API.
Overall, AverMedia has produced a nice, lag-free capture card that does what it says on the box, and I definitely recommend it.

Spectacular Powerful 4K CAP Card

The AVerMedia - Live Streamer Cap 4K is a spectacular device and makes content creation fun and easy!
This CAP card has simple connection requirements; one USB-C port and one HDMI. It works great with my DSLR and my 4K action camera. Simply connect to the computer and start streaming your content. Device is plug and play. I use with primarily with Mac OS, however I tasted it with Windows and it works fine there too.
One point of clarification from the description details on this device is, the maximum capture resolution is 4Kp30.
You can stream at a maximum resolution of 4Kp60, not capture. Even with this constraint, it's still an amazing CAP card. It would be great if you could capture in 4Kp60, however this is not a setback.
There are two capture resolution options:
4Kp30
1080p60 HDR
TheThe AVerMedia - Live Streamer Cap card ensures content streams without disruption. Very clear and smooth video. The audio is in sync, therefore I don't have to adjust anything post capture. Everything I stream or capture is crystal clear, just as it appears on the camera. There is no distortion, no noise added to the frames, no haze or blurriness. Just clear amazing imagery.
I would recommend the AVerMedia - Live Streamer Cap 4K card. It works as expected. Delivers high quality content effortlessly. I really powerful CAP card.

A fantastic UVC 4K capture device
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
GOOD
- UVC Device = no drivers needed
- Windows, Linux, and Mac compatible
- Very little latency
- Outputs 4K 30fps and 1080p 60fps for capture
- Accepts many different input resolutions and framerates, even 1440 and retro gaming low resolutions
BAD
- Capture only, no pass-through
- Only outputs 4K and 1080 resolutions for recording, no 1440 or other resolutions
- No 4K60 capture
- No HDR capture, inputs are tone-mapped to SDR
- The software options like ePTZ and post effects aren't really usable
TL/DR
The Live Streamer Cap 4K is one of the best camera capture devices available right now. Very low latency, YUYV and NV12 modes, it works with all sorts of input resolution and framerates, and it doesn't need special drivers as it's a UVC device.
The first "downside" to realize is the Live Streamer is a capture only device. It should be obvious from the box, but it has no pass-through and no HDMI out jack. This is primarily meant for cameras that otherwise don't have a way to output a live feed, so you can use your fancy DLSR as a USB webcam. It also has very low processing latency, so if you use it in combination with other audio and video sources, keeping everything in sync should be easier. If used for gaming, you can play from the preview window of your recording software, but depending on what game you're playing and your sensitivity to lag, it might not be practical. I tested it with Bloodborne for an hour, and though I was able to do it, the extra lag certainly made the game much harder. For simpler and slower-paced games, it's not too bad.
Tech specs, it can receive a lot of different video resolutions and framerates, including 1440 and even some uncommon ones from retro gaming emulators. However it only outputs 4K and 1080 resolution over the USB, so native 1440 recording is no-go. And though your gaming consoles recognize the Live Streamer as an HDR device ( my PS4 Pro allowed me to turn on HDR when connected to it ) the Live Streamer Cap will not actually output HDR over its USB connection. Everything is tone-mapped.
Still, you're getting up to 4K30 and 1080p60 signal using a YUYV or NV12 formats. Video output is very good, latency is low, price is reasonable, it's compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac, and it doesn't need special drivers. For all that, there's not much to complain about.

great capture card for camcorder
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
this is a capture card but without an HDMI pass thru. So, one use is taking a camera or camcorder that has a HDMI output and you can plug that into this device and make those into basically a webcam. doing so you will need to get the right cable or adaptor that fits your camera/camcorder. my camcorder I have is a micro-HDMI. I already have regular HDMI cables so I just bought a micro-HDMI to HDMI adaptor and then I can plug a HDMI into that cord and the other end into this device. was cheaper and gives me options to use at other places that might already have a HDMI cable in place.
you can also use this to stream with as well. I would say for a 2-pc setup works well. I have a live streamer capture card already and use that when I stream. but I don't use the pass thru. I just use 1 monitor on for my gaming pc, and another for my stream. so instead of using that capture card, you could use this capture card. it's a little cheaper and maybe a bit better quality. but if you are going to use it for a console, not sure how well a HDMI splitter works. and you can get a little lag depending on what you use and your system. So, if you are wanting it for that, I would suggest the live gamer portable instead.
that said, I am glad to get this even though I have an external capture card. this allows me to stream my games thru the one capture card, and then with this one I can now use my camcorder to capture what my screen as well, hands, or like a webcam. it's a much better quality then my webcams.
it's also great if you want to do a live video with your camcorder/camera like on Facebook,
a few things that I will mention. not sure why AVerMedia went with a separate software for this. Would have been nice if they just updated their RECentral software. As it stands, the camengine software won't recognize my other AVerMedia capture card. However, their RECentral software does recognize this. Granted I like using streamlabs OBS.
another thing is that it does not come with at least a HDMI cable.
so, if you want to stream and have a 2-pc setup, this will work well. if you have a nice camera or camcorder and would like to use that like a webcam basically, this is great for that too.

Great little USB capture card!

I had been looking for something like this for a few different reasons. The first being that I wanted to be able to capture video from my laptop onto my main computer in 4K quality. The second was that I had a bunch of old VHS tapes that I wanted to be able to capture digitally since the tapes were deteriorating quickly!
I have to say, this little black box was up to the challenge and performed beautifully! I have to say this is one of the easiest devices I have ever used. I literally just plugged it into my computer and opened the program and everything worked perfectly. I didn't have to mess with any drivers or anything. It truly is plug and play!
Capturing 4K content from my laptop looked amazing, there was no degradation in picture quality whatsoever and the RECCentral 4 software was very easy to use. I'm sure this would work as a capture card in other editing programs, but that's the only one I tried. You could easily select the resolution and framerate you wanted and then just hit record. It's as simple as that!
I was also shocked at how well this was able to capture old home movies from VHS tapes. I did have to use an analog to HDMI converter and then plug the output of that into the AVerMedia, but it worked flawlessly! I tried to find documentation to see if this would be able to do that and I couldn't find a definitive answer. But I am here to let you know it does work and works very well!
Overall, I couldn't be happier with this device. It has exceeded my expectations and was very easy to set up and use. What more could you want!

Excellent Plug & Play 4K Quality

The AVerMedia - Live Streamer Cap 4K is a must-have for streamers - or even just folks who want a simple, plug & play, high quality 4K connection to their camera.
Setup is literally plug and play. Very intuitive and even easier to use. The quality is way above the bar for live streaming - virtually no latency or lag, something unexpected for a product at this price point. I was very, very impressed.
As far as connection to a computer, the specs they recommend are a bit heftier than many people have in their average laptop - so that is something to be aware of. I am running on an M1 MacBook Pro with the new Max chip and performance was outstanding. I did not try it with my Windows laptop as the video memory in that machine is sub-par.
The verdict: a great, high-quality, 4k connector from any HDMI device to a computer with an intuitive design. Definitely a thumbs up from me.

This device does one thing. It converts HDMI output from any source to a USB input for your computer. It accomplishes this without any additional drivers since your computer recognizes the input as an external webcam. It surpasses many capture cards with the ability to pass through up to 4K sources. Of course, that requires that your computer has the power and video capabilities to deal with a 4K stream, and you connect to a USB 3 port on your computer. It is USB powered and does not need any external power source.
This is a niche product for those wanting high-quality and high-resolution camera (or game console) video sent to their computer. You can use any digital camera or camcorder with HMDI output to generate beautiful-looking videos. The instructions are minimal, but if you go to their somewhat techy website, there’s more information. I found AVerMedia also has a program called CamEngine that allows a high level of control … exposure, white balance, contrast, special effects, zooming, facing following (AI-powered ePTZ ), etc. Be aware that if you’re after that level of video quality, your camera or computer’s microphone might be the weak link. Buying a good external microphone will probably be advisable. Also, you might first check if your camera manufacturer has the software and ability to stream using its USB output. Most of the big names have been adding this to their recent DSLR and mirrorless cameras.
As explained, this device does one thing and does it well. Unlike less expensive capture cards that are limited to 1080p, it can output 4Kp30 HDR uncompressed video. If that’s what you want or need, the AVerMedia 4K Cap is a solid, high-rez choice.

Its very nice to have a turn-key streaming device that does exactly what its supposed to do. I really appreciate it not requiring specific drivers and software. In fact, I see that as Windows 11 progresses, gone are the days of specialized drivers. The software needed is baked in and that is so much better than constantly checking for individual driver updates. The streamer card works great and can live stream over any platform that supports streaming. Furthermore, you can extract videos as well for later streaming or archiving purposes. This is great for sharing a video from your camera and capturing it on your PC for storage or to view later. This is highly recommended for capturing your video game play as well.

Streaming high quality sources needs good equipment. AVermedia’s little black box gives you the versatility to use your best equipment together. I connected the Live Streamer 4K through a USB-A connection to a USB 3.0 port on my PC. It was paired up with at first my Sony camera and later with my Nintendo Switch. In both cases, the video looked rock solid with no noticeable lag. With the Switch, the sound came through clearly and as completely as when it’s connected to the TV. Motion was smooth and seamless. I even found myself using the stream video as my primary source for controlling the game. The low latency across the whole set up meant I could game as I normally do without having to anticipate where the action is headed.
Even after several hours of gaming, the box does not get warm. The connections were solid with no discernible play in the wires. AVermedia packages their Streamer with a USB-C to USB-A cable. I was also able to connect the box directly to a USB-C port (on a different PC) using a USB-C to USB-C cable that I had already. That connection worked equally well with the Streamer 4K pulling power from the PC port. The main advantage of the USB-C port is a native connection to newer laptops which may not have a spare USB-A style port or if that port is too slow.
I ended up not installing the AVermedia software. It worked fine natively with Zoom and with Twitch, so I saw no need to introduce something else into the stream. Others have noted the software adds special effects and a digital zoom to enhance your video calls or streams. Even without the software, I have no reservations about recommending this little black box to anyone looking to improve their visuals online.

Latency is hardly perceptible. First live streamer that I’ve owned that i can hardly notice any lag at all. My experience with others, even at 1080p, has always been disappointing but this displays almost no latency at 4K and 30fps. I could hardly believe, especially because this is by no means a fancy streamer.
Absolutely no issues connecting to my DSLR or my computer. As for computer, they recommend at least an i7 with a nVidia 1060 graphics card. That was no issue for me but be warned that your experience may not be as nice as mine if you have a lower end PC/laptop. I didn’t try it with a MAC so I can’t talk about that. What I can say is that connecting it to a PC works really well IF your PC has a USB 3 port and a decent graphics card. You will not get a good result with USB 2 simply because the limited bandwidth of that port, no matter what your CPU and GPU are.
So far, I am very satisfied with performance and image quality. Although it requires good equipment to perform at its best, what I think everybody will have no complain about is its plug and play capability. No drivers needed, I plugged it to difference computers and cameras and although performance changed, especially with lower end equipment, it just worked with all of them. Few things are more frustrating than trying to make a peripheral device work with different computers. Not with this streamer.
If you’re a gamer and want to capture it for YouTube or similar channel, look no further. There are cheaper alternatives out there, but they can’t match the quality of this one. The money you save is not worth it when you consider the many issues you encounter and have to figure out yourself. I can use that time on something more useful.

If you have a high quality device you want to capture for your live streams or YouTube videos this one might be pretty good for you. I compare this to the Elgato CAMLink which is also a good piece of equipment. This winds up being a little cheaper and could be just as good or better for your needs.
Setup was pretty easy. I downloaded their Assist software which found my device and downloaded the software I needed automatically. The only issue with it was that it needed to download another update separately for the RecCentral application right after it installed via the Assist software. No big deal though.
You get two applications you can use depending on your use case. If you're connecting a console to this device or you want to directly stream from it, you'll want to use the RecCentral application which lets you preview and directly stream to your platform of choice. I didn't notice any latency in the testing that I did. I played my console games in 4K directly on my monitory. If I was streaming with this, I'd probably be fine with just capturing the desktop while it played in full screen with my two PC setup but you can always add the RecCentral application to your OBS capture directly too.
The other way you can use this is by hooking up a high quality mirrorless camera to it. You can either directly add the CAP device to OBS if you want but you can also use their CamEngine software which lets you tweak the image a bit before going to OBS. You then add their CamEngine device to OBS instead and you get all that post processing on your video already. It even includes a handful of SnapChat-like filters if you want to do some goofy stuff like give yourself a beard or whatever.
Overall, it didn't take long to setup and the quality output from the device looked great. For the price of this, I would recommend it to anyone who's looking to capture a 4K console or camera for your stream or recorded content. The only issue I found was that there was no way to output 4k60. The advertising for the device says 4k30 recording and 4k60 streaming but I was unable to find a place to set 4k60 anywhere. I think the advertising is just a little misleading and it means you can input 4k60 but you'll only get 4k30 out. If you definitely want 4k60 output, you may need to look elsewhere. For this price, you're going to be restricted to 1080p60 or 4k30.
I can recommend this to anyone who doesn't need 4k60+ output. The software doesn't feel super bloated. The device worked nicely right out of the box after a quick download. And I don't think you can beat the price for the build quality.

It just works

What else can I say. This has been one of the best experiences I've ever had with a capture device. Plug it in to a USB port and it just starts working. Windows ran it without needing to install any separate drivers. Linux/Ubuntu picked it up with no issues either. I tested it through OBS in both operating systems and the results were the same.
The addition of color coded error messages on the device is a nice touch and even though it says it needs a USB3 port, I suspect that is for power draw only. I had it attached with a USB2 extension cable and while it flashed error colors at me, it still powered on and worked.
It does get warm to the touch, so I would not bury this in a poorly ventilated area, but for what it's doing in such a small package, I'm surprised it doesn't run warmer. This is a must buy for anyone doing streaming and wanting to use a DSLR camera with HMDI output.

Plug&Play Easy, Razor Sharp Quality

Summary: Seems like everyone is a content creator these days looking for an edge. AVerMedia has been making quality audio video products for the last 3 decades and the BU113 Live Streamer CAP is their latest video capture device that connects your camera (provided it has HDMI output) to your computer for streaming (webcam) or 4Kp30 recording for video editing. What separates it from a crowded field of cheap alternatives is that it is the industry leader in low latency capture making syncing audio and video plug and play easy and it is full HDMI 2.0 capable and delivers razor-sharp 4K resolution. It follows the UVC standard so no drivers are required. Likewise it is USB-C powered so no additional power supplies to hook up. For me, using it was as simple as taking it out of the box, connecting a HDMI cable to my camera and a USB-C cable to my computer (M1 iMac). It was instantly recognized and functional for all software that could use cameras, like Zoom or Discord. It did get warm during use, but this did not seem to impact performance. For the price, nothing to complain about.
Pros:
- Full HDMI 2.0 support, 4Kp30 recording, 4Kp60 streaming
- Low latency
- Reasonable cost
- Plug and Play, no drivers required
- USB C powered from the computer.
- Useful indicator light. Red, power on but not connected, Blue power on and connected.
Cons:
- You will need additional cables. At the very least an HDMI cable from your camera (in my case a mini HDMI to HDMI) and probably a proper USB C cable (who uses USB 3.0 connectors?)
- lightweight plastic construction to keep the costs down. Don't stand on it.
- Does get warm
Caveats: These are not really negatives because they are simply design considerations, but some people might still be interested to know:
- No Video Pass through. If you want to simultaneously capture video and watch on a monitor, you will need an HDMI-Splitter.
- Automatic HDR to SDR tone mapping. Some of you will be disappointed, most will say thats fine (was with me) and some will say whaaaat? If you have to ask, you won't be impacted.
- Requires USB 3.0. USB 2.0 need not apply.
- The included list of compatible cameras was limited and did not include mine (Sony A7 RIV), but it seems almost anything that outputs HDMI will in fact work (including mine).
- To process all that 4k video on your computer, you need a pretty decent PC (Intel® Core™ i5-6XXX + NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 or above). It's really all about the video card you have, you need a good one.
- Apple Mac, YMMV, it lists needing at least a 3.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 with a Radeon Pro 555 with 2 GB of VRA, and 16 GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 memory. It doesn't even discuss the new Apple Silicon Macs, and some people have reported problems. I had no issues with a M1 iMac or a M1 Max MacBook Pro. Plug and Play. Needless to say though, the fancy video software it comes with is PC only.
Who should get this? Anyone that wants to stand out over standard web cams with razor-sharp 4k sharpness, and full control of depth of field and exposure settings with your own high quality digital camera.

The Live Streamer Cap 4k Is plug and play. There are no files to download or install. The device comes with an USB A to USB C cable. There is no HDMI cable in the package. The output is a high-quality picture but be aware you need a USB A 3.0 or better clean port. I tried with a port expander and there was to much interference. Max recording is 4K at 30 fps. This device is better than some of the higher end streamer cards with better quality and higher 4K.
If you are in the market for a Live stream card this one, is it.
I would recommend this to family and friends.

A pretty great capture card for a Camera!

If you’re in the market for a new capture card, you’re probably wondering if this will provide you with a solution. The honest answer is “sort of” in a good way. Like many streamers, I’ve opted to pay for new webcams that offer higher resolution or faster frame rates. Many of the streaming cameras tend to have limited viewing angles, making for some hit or miss quality captures. In my case, I’d been using some cheap USB camera capture card I’d found on another marketplace with less than stellar results and with a lot of stuttering.
I was happy to try the AverMedia capture device, in the hopes of giving my camera another shot. In the box you’ll find the capture card, a USB C to A cable, and a quick start guide. The device was quickly detected by Windows, and almost immediately ready for use once plugged in. OBS quickly recognized the device, allowing me to add it to my overlay with my Nikon camera connected over HDMI. Compared to my off-brand camera capture card, this was a huge improvement, with virtually no latency (or lag) coming from the camera. I was able to easily capture 1080P video, while maintaining a fairly steady recording during use. Bumping the resolution up on my camera to 4K, and the picture captured was far better than my previous cap card.
The capture card accepts 1080p60, 2160p60 (4K), and 1440p144; however, it will only output 2160p30 or 1080p60. While this won’t be much of a concern to many streamers, I was bummed to see that it wouldn’t capture at 2160p60. The device being what it is also lacks any pass-through, so I wouldn’t expect an enjoyable experience trying to use this with a console or other HDMI device. I even used the device to help capture some video for my friend's YouTube channel, bypassing his own memory card to capture live video straight from his camera.
Overall, I’m really impressed with the ease of plug and play, the reliable video stream being captured by the device, and the better quality picture over the cheaper alternative I was using previously. If you have a nicer 4K camera, you’ll see a huge benefit from grabbing one of these, and an even better experience if you’re wanting to use OBS or another program to capture live video for content recording. Given the price point, the ease of use, and the quality of the video I’d highly recommend this device. I wouldn’t, on the other hand, recommend this for someone just looking to capture content from a console or other device due to the lack of pass-through.
