Surprisingly this works with a laptop and not just a camera. Note however, I had issues with connecting it to MAC Os at first --- I needed to Google how to get it to work with Mac, but it was fairly simple with my Windows laptop. Nonetheless, this is really a plug n play item. You just plug in your camera, laptop, whatever has HDMI output. Then utilize one of the 2 supplied USB cables to connect on the other end. I used the OBS capture software and the sound and video showed up fine in the software once connected just ensure to enable both your much and camera in your laptop settings. As far as the streaming, besides a slight audio delay that seems to increase the longer I stream, it works exactly as expected and described --- a must have for content creators! Note that max capture resolution is 4k 30p which is typically the standard anyway. All in all, it streams excellently without major distortions or issues and definitely shortens post prod touchups as the livestreamer cap fixes all the normal distortions in real time.

I've been trying to find an easy way to use my Sony ZV-1 as both a high-end webcam for work and personal calls as well as content creation. Sony recently updated the firmware on the camera so you can use it as a webcam and stream directly to the computer, but it wasn't a good user experience. When the camera turned on, you had to manually engage streaming mode because the camera's default behavior is to be read as an external drive. Plus, even on USB power, the camera wouldn't last more than a few hours, especially when connected to my work laptop. I was about to give up when I came across the AverMedia capture card. This thing worked perfectly, right out of the box with no extra drivers required. I hooked up my ZV-1 with a Micro-HDMI-to-HDMI cable and used the included USB-C cable to connect it to my work laptop. Just like that, it came up fine. In Zoom, Quicktime, and Facetime, it shows up as "4K Capture Card" instead of "ZV-1". Because it's USB 3.0 over USB-C, I was also able to run another cable and use it with my personal iMac. All I have to do is swap out the USB-C cable to swap the camera between devices. If the capture card is solid blue, that means it's got a stable, good connection. If it's blinking red, that means it's connected to a USB 2.0 port / cable. Although the manual says that USB 2.0 isn't supported, I was able to get it to work on both machines - but I went back to the USB-C / USB 3.0 port set up just to be safe. I've done several calls and made several videos with this thing and it's worked like a charm! I'm kicking myself in the pants for not going with a capture card in the first place. The card itself is about 3 inches in length, so it takes up almost no space, and the USB-C connection that carries the video also powers the device, so no extra power cord or goofy setup required.

This is the second product for AVerMedia that I have had the privilege to review. When the offer was first sent out, I jumped at the chance to gain a capture card. Upon receiving, I quickly figured out that is not quite what this device is used for. I am an avid gamer but only livestream every once in a while. I have a genuinely nice built-in cam on my personal computer, as well as an external USB-C webcam. Both work and stream perfectly fine when used with my OBS. The differentiator here though is the AVerMedia Live Streamer’s ability to allow you to use your own DSLR camera. We have an older Cannon, it was not top of the line then so now it is obsolete, but it is a great Cannon camera with all the bells and whistles. After an easy plug & play setup I was able to rejuvenate and repurpose the once wonderous camera. AVerMedia is a great kind of unknown company to most that makes AV aids at a very high-end and commercial level. To do some product research I went to the manufactures website and saw that one of their recommended uses was for an online presentation or something of the like. I loved this idea and have started using this in all of my online meeting forums. The camera quality is always crisp, clear, and with no noticeable lag. I have been able to showcase the project that I am working on in great detail. Great little product at a very reasonable price point.

Take your live streams to the next level by up-converting your recording device to 4k through this device. I found this device to be a bit confusing at first as I was trying to figure out how to connect it to my DLSR. Once I did, I wasn't sur it was working at first, but once review the video recordings there was a distinct difference between standard recording and those through the AVerMedia unit. PROS - AVerMedia innovations and design - Quality of video up-scaling - Easy to use once determined connectivity with your device is done - Cost-effective way to stream or record in 4k rather than replacing expensive recording equipment CONS - Initial setup may be confusing depending on your device.

The AVerMedia - Live Streamer Cap 4K is geared toward streaming content from non HDCP protected content to your PC. I had success capturing content from my DSLR and some gameplay from my PS4. The device is pretty simple with HDMI input and USB-C output to your PC which requires some form of a Capture program. I used Cyberlink’s Powerdirector video editing program which seamlessly recognized the capture device and recorded content from the devices I mentioned. Nothing complicated here, however I was not able to capture 4K resolution. This may have to do with the capture software I was using. AVerMedia has capture software which you can download and install on your PC, perhaps that software would have better success. Regardless this device does the job it is supposed to. Pros: - works out of the box, no drivers needed. Cons: - could use a bit more input options, like mini HDMI - would be a home run if it had a SD card slot for recording content.

Small time Streamer and this USB Capture card grabs my 4K Sony Camcorder with no issue. Plugged into USB and the Camera and had OBS detecting the source and showing the picture with no issues. It just worked out the box no extra software required and didn't add extra stress to the system to capture the camcorder and display it. I like the simplicity and no need for extra software. It is nice and am very happy to capture my Camcorder at 4K making the picture great and didn't take much effort,

Very easy to use, nice looking device and the detachable USB-C connection is a huge benefit for those who use the same camera for multiple computers. Very nice device and I would definitely recommend it as a solid alternative to other camera USB devices for streaming and video calls!

    Easy Set Up

This HD capture device was super easy to set up. Just plug it in and it works. It was automatically detected by the streaming software that we use (Ecamm) and has no detectable lag from "live" to the transfer of the data on the computer. The two issues that I had with the product were 1) the cable is a USB C to USB A. Most computers no longer have USB A ports so you will probably need an adapter ($30 or so) to use this. 2) the editing software, which was a big selling point, is not available for Mac only PC.

    Simple All Around

The AVerMedia Live Streamer Cap 4K is simple in design and in use. Similar products often use a USB-A port which makes it difficult to setup in certain scenarios. Fortunately, this device utilizes a detachable cord making it much easier to link the camera and computer in any situation. Once plugged in, I was able to open my software programs and jump into streaming action. The 4K capture quality showed up tremendously well, and the device maintained a steady temperature during extended use. This product doesn’t leave much to be desired. However, I did wish that it was able to record at 4K60fps instead of maxing out at 4K30fps. Yet, this is a negative that I can live with because I’m able to stream high quality content with ease.

Super small and easy plug and play setup, so easy a caveman can do it haha. Portability gets a 10 !! This is my 3rd AverMedia product that I've used for streaming. No software, drivers or anything, just simply plug it in and open whatever you use for video capture! USB Type C cord! No micro USB!! Led indicator on top. Would highly recommend it to others
