    Amazing Software, Easy to Use

I have been using AVG software since its creation back in the 90's. It was a little known free program that detected majority of virus and ran at half the resources that name brand Anti-Virus software ran. It is now 2018 and I remain as impressed as I was back then. This software is a must buy for anyone who wish to ensure they do not receive any viruses on their computer. Pros:: Clean / Easy To Use Layout Protection Features Very Low Resource Usage on Computers Price Per Feature Online Support Customer Service Cons:: None Software:: The software itself comes in a small package or can be downloaded off their website. In this case, I went to their website , downloaded the free version and bought a key from BestBuy. The download and install occurred very quickly with step by step instructions that were very helpful for those who are not technical in nature. Once installed the software comes configured with recommended settings which I would strongly suggest not to modify unless you know what you are doing. The software takes up to 1.13GB in size however has very low resource utilization. In fact, the resource demands are so low you can run this on low end computers with ease. You will need to create a "My AVG" account however this will help keep track of license expiration, purchase history, promotional material and online support. The software also auto updates your virus definitions to ensure you are always up to date Multiple Software Protections:: The full version provides additional protections that are a very nice bonus especially the firewall inclusion with the antivirus -Computer Protection The computer protection allows AVG to scan any files added or opened on the computer and watches applications running the in background for malicious behavior. Testing the active scan on my spare computer, it was able to quickly detect traditional rootkits / Trojans and malware. I was very impressed at the method of how it stopped and quarantined the item but wont get that technical for this article. -Web / Email Protection The web and email function works wonderfully as well especially since I have family members that occasionally still quickly open attachments from emails without looking first. The web shield works great for those who use browser add-ons or surf the net as it quickly detects and prevents from backdoor downloads/installs. The email shield works great of all online email accounts as well as outlook on the desktop. -Hacker Attacks and Ransomware Protection The Hacker Attacks function is pretty much just the firewall feature however do not let that distract from how well this firewall protects. It provided the normal functions that Windows defender has with the added bonus of easy customization, easy log access and advance settings. The Ransomware Protection is a unique feature added to AVG that will provide additional security to personal files. It automatically selects the user profiles and most commonly used folders. You can also manually add folders you wish to protect with this software. I have not experienced any issue or slowdowns when adding these folders and recommend to include folders with sensitive data. -Privacy, Webcam and Data Safe Protection The Privacy Protection is very impressive as it is not a common feature you see with other anti virus software. It has two functions, one is to protect the webcam and the other is to create a Data safe. The webcam portion protects from software trying to use the computers Webcam to spy on you. The standard setting is "Smart Mode" however you also have "Strict Mode" and "No Mercy". As you can imagine it goes from trusted applications to always having to ask your permission first to a completely block on using camera. The Data safe is creating an encrypted 256-bit AES folder only you can access which is great when it comes to protecting financial data! -Payments, Anti-Spam and Fake Website Shield This helps protects from fake websites and fake phishing/spam emails asking for your financial information. The Fake Website Shield works by ensure the financial site is truly the financial site and you were not re-routed without your knowledge to a hacked site. It is a great feature to have to help ensure you are not being duped when going to a purchasing site or bank. - Other Scans (Advance Settings) I have been really impressed at all the additional scanning features AVG provides. You can not only scan your whole computer, you have the option to scan USB/ DVD, focus on a particular folder, run a "Deep Scan" and run a Boot-Time Scan. I typically like to run a Deep Scan every other month just to make sure no malware snuck by and the Boot-Time Scan once a quarter. Both are more on the extreme side of scanning however feel its better to be safe then sorry. Online Support / Customer Service:: There are alot of great online resources to help understand the advance functionality or commonly asked questions. You also have an option to Chat/Call into the customer service line for additional assistance. I have used the Chat feature working with customer service for advance settings assistance and everyone I have spoken to was extremely friendly, patient and helpful.

The AVG internet security is a one year subscription plan that offers protection for up to three devices including smart phones and tablets. Some of the features are not too different than most other internet security software out there however there are a few key features that sets this slightly apart making it a little more desirable. I'm gonna talk about some of the features it offers and try to stay away from the technical aspects of it since you can find most of the specs from the manufactures site or Best Buys site. First off set up is very basic and AVG will walk you through it all. You will however need to set up a AVG account in order to utilize its full benefits and i highly recommend doing so if you plan on installing the software on a smartphone for tracking or theft purpose, which i'll discuss in a bit. Once set up is complete it will install a short cut on your desktop and immediately load the AVG screen showing you what you can with this software. I uploaded a picture for you to see the windows based menu items for this software. If you ever owned a paid internet security software your going to realize that there is a lot of similarities with this software. It pretty much does the basics that you may be used to. It'll scan your hard drive and temp files looking for any threats and available junk to clean up and help the pc run smoother. There's internet protection that will warn you of sites that you may be on that have potential threats to your pc. Also on a side note lets say you want to go into incognito mode for whatever your reason may be, it picks up on what you are trying to do and assumes you are going to visit a potentially harmful site and will therefore help guide you and protect you from any viruses, malware, spam or unwanted cookies that may pose a threat. Aside from the base features you have the ability to upgrade to even further functions for a set price depending of what kind of internet usage you plan on doing. For example here are a few features you can unlock . For an additional $47.88 for a one year subscription you can unlock features that will block your ISP address from anyone out there, you can block your internet history from prying eyes including your internet provider, you can shop online, chat or transfer funds all on a secure encrypted line so no one can see what you are doing. You can have all saved payment information and email communications encrypted as well for secure and private transactions and communication lines. This is just one package available. I found the ability to even have this accessible should i ever need it was a nice feature to have. Understand though that at the end of the day nothing is truly 100% secure however upgrading to this package will make it very difficult for someone to hack in to your PC and see what it is you are doing. Now lets talk about the smartphone function. When buying this security software you can install it on up to three devices and one of the other devices i installed it on was my Samsung S7 edge smartphone. Install is very simple and easy but you will need an AVG account to set it up. Simply download the AVG app, then once it has finished downloading all you do is open up the app and log in to your AVG account and activate for said device. I think this software really shines for mobile devices. There is quite a bit you can do with it and i will go over just some of the key features for times sake. For one you can scan for hidden threats, boost your RAM, Clean up junk files, and activate battery savers. You can also block certain numbers and even test your internet speed. Where it really shines however is in its theft protection software which is all part of the subscription which is nice. Lets say your phone is stolen. You can get on your PC track where your phone is at but that is just the start. You can turn on your phones microphone to hear what is going on, you can also turn on the cameras to see whats going on or who has your phone. Now lets say you have some valuable messages, photos or emails you may not want seen. No big deal you can lock out whatever apps you wish thus requiring a password to access them. But lets say that still doesn't bring you piece of mind. No worries you have a hail mary save all function. You can back up all your info to a cloud then send a distress signal to your phone alerting it that has been stolen or missing. What then happens is it will snap shot the front facing camera, then completely wipe out all your files, messages, pictures or anything else you have have on there that is sensitive. Once this is done it will lock out your phone completely and sound a alarm out to hopefully detour your thief or help locate your device. This feature i only recommend in the event you can not get your phone back and deem it completely loss due to the fact it will wipe a lot of your personal stuff completely out. All in all this is a pretty nice package that offers alot of functionality depending on the person and your usage. After all we are not all built the same and do not have the same habits so why should our internet software be limited to only one function also. This software is a really good entry level protection program that takes up very little storage and more importantly does not slow down your PC or smart device in the process. Some security software out there will tend to slowdown your performance as it tries to over compensate in its protection. AVG however will not!

Much Better Options for the Money

There only a couple pro's for what they claim to be as Internet Security but from my experience trying many different brands of Internet Security, the AVG offering is a huge letdown. This is a very easy product to install and create an account with and has a very easy interface that doesn't require much, if any technical knowledge to get started and use but unfortunately that's as far as the pro's go. The main issue with this software is the underlying attempt to nickel and dime you to death by charging for features that should be and are included in the competitors Internet Security Suites for around the same price with a few costing a bit more but for that money you actually receive much more security included in that price while AVG tries to entice you through the software that you need to download more software to be fully protected at a cost of course! On an average of $59.99 per additional product adding up to well over an additional $200+ in costs which to me seems rediculous and honestly I had a competitors free internet security software protecting this laptop before removing it to install this half___ product to review and had high hopes from what I've seen in the free version of AVG but unfortunately the paid version comes no where close to being a good solid choice for Internet protection compared to the free software from another company that begins with an A also! So before choosing any antivirus or internet security software, do yourself a favor and do some research about what is included with each companies software offerings before just blindly buying the first option available! I have a degree in computer and network technology and have been building and repairing computer's for over 15 year's and am really surprised by the amount of good ratings for this software on BestBuy's website and can only hope that I can at least help a few people make a better informed choice on a very important software choice.

    Reputable name, quirky install

If you are shopping for "antivirus" (an all encompassing term these days to mean "keep me safe online") AVG is a reputable brand offering better benchmarks than some of the more popular names in anti-virus and web protection. However, I did find their install process a bit quirky. I was a new-to-AVG user (although I had used their product back in the 90s) and consequently had to sign up for an AVG account with my email as my username. Personally I am not a big fan of having to sign-up to download a product I have a license key for. Once I had my account established (and verified via the email message that landed in my PROMOTIONS tab rather than my INBOX) I found it frustrating that I had to sign-in to the installed app on my PC and my Android device to launch it. The actual install on my Windows 10 PC seemed to to take a bit longer than most apps, appearing to freeze at times but eventually completing. The install to my Android was a link via AVG to the Play app to a push install. Once installed on Android, you had to sign on to the app with your AVG account to activate the software. Once everything is installed and activated the product requires no interaction on your part unless there is a problem. I am VERY CAUTIOUS with my devices and truthfully would not normally buy an antivirus/web protection suite and instead rely on built-in antivirus/malware protection and run free tools as needed, however, I worry that my Android phone may expose me to more security threats than my PC simply because I interact with my phone differently. I picked the 3-device AVG license because I wanted Android protection first. I am using the other two license for the kids' laptop and an in-law. The web logon for AVG doesn't offer much other than links to download the product, order history, and renewal info. I had hoped that I would see my 3 devices on that page plus "status reporting." It would be helpful to know via an AVG portal if the kids' laptop was routinely blocking malware, for example. The app interface on the phone is very basic and, even with a paid version, appears to be suggesting other AVG products I should buy like AVG VPN and Alarm Clock Extreme which I find frustrating. The AVG dashboard on the PC is simple and makes you feel safe but at the same time, it doesn't give a ton of useful information without drilling into each tool. Antivirus and Internet Security software cannot keep you 100% safe because it cannot prevent you from clicking something you shouldn't, but AVG has a proven track record and the Internet Suite is worth the investment for 3 devices if you feel you need that always-checking security. Keep in mind that this is annual subscription software and a year later you will be faced with a decision regarding whether or not to renew.

I like AVG products, I just reviewed the AVG Ultimate that the AVG Internet Security was part of that. Like any premium anti-virus suite, AVG Internet Security y covers against viruses, spyware, email protection, web protection and more. To be honest, most applications like this on the market at this level will do all that. Many are free so I am hard pressed to see the value. So with that in mind, I will be looking at the installation, interface and performance ( non- scientific) and overall impression. The installation – The initial installation was fast and the download did not take long. The program was downloaded via AVG website. You have to register with AVG to install. The registration was as simple as an email address and password. The interface – I am not thrilled with the way that AVG set up their dashboard. I did not find it very intuitive to access all the features and functions. At first , it tells you what you how you are protected . To view more you have to click on the cog next to scan, the menu, or my AVG drop down. It is not the end of the world, I just was not thrilled the way it was arranged. The performance – This program is fast. Every scan I did was finished in a short amount of time. It should be noted that I am using it on a very clean system but it still was very fast. During scans I noticed no performance lag in my system. Overall – I have mixed feelings on subscription based applications. It seems like you should pay once for something and be covered for a year. This holds true for the AVG Internet Security, if this product is meant for 3 systems for $20; does it make sense when there are free programs that do the same? I am not sure. The AVG Ultimate Security offers a better suite of options and unlimited device coverage. I would pass on the 3 system AVG Internet Security.

I was not sure what to expect with this product as it was the first paid subscription of any sort of internet security/antivirus software I have ever had. In the past I have always just simply had the free download versions that at least tell you basic information, but almost always ask for money if you want more detailed information about your device, or if you wanted an issue resolved. I now have several computers worth well more than your average computer and I wanted the piece of mind of having a slightly more advanced program looking after my computer while I use the internet with it. Once I got my avg account set up properly and had this subscription attached to it, it was smooth sailing. It is a bit strange that you are only given one code for 3 computers, that was a bit confusing at first, giving three separate codes could have been easier. Although once everything is installed and running properly, AVG’s user interface, and overall appearance and layout is so clear and easy to understand. By far my favorite looking software of this kind I have ever used. When manually having AVG run a scan of your machine, the status bar is very informative, and the process is very quick and easy, I think the key word overall with this service is that it is easy to use and easy to understand what it needs to tell you about your computer. I did notice though that AVG is sure to tell you if your computer is being bogged down by anything and that it could use some tuning up, however if you tell it to fix it, it still asks for payment towards an even more advanced security subscription. That is the only disappointment so far, otherwise I feel safe using this program on all three of my devices.

I have been running the AVG software now for a bit and overall I am happy with the protection it has provided. I have to say that the overall installation process was a touch of a challenge and not because the software was having issues but there are several products that the company pushes down and tries to get you to sign up for as well. Everything from PC maintenance, duplicate file finder and secure VPN offers. For some, it may be needed but if you are looking for just the Anti-Virus protection, it gets a bit confusing and frustrating if you are simply looking to finish up the process. As for the product and the protection of the machine, it seems to do a thorough job. After install, I ran a scan and it found several issues such as viruses, malware and threats that I was able to sequester and fix quickly. As a typical user focused on surfing the web, email and general tasks, the software does not seem to impact the performance too bad. I would say it’s comparable to most competitors. There isn’t many options out there that are thorough and do not impact performance so giving up a bit of it for a well protected machine may be worth it. The virus definition files seem to be updated frequently and the automatic update feature works as expected. I will amend this review should my feedback or opinion change but so far, I would recommend this as a good AV protection package and if you are interested in considering several other products that can help your PC run and stay in good shape, this software is worth a look.

Installation was pretty quick, go to the AVG website, create an account and input the activation code. Once registered, you're directed to a download page, download the installer and run. Installation went without a hitch. The installed software takes about 1GB of disk space, but seems to have very little performance impact (ie., low resource utilization) even when running benchmarks. The package contains a number of protective elements that seems fairly comprehensive. These include: Malware scanning (viruses, rootkits, trojans, etc) State Full Firewall Real time web and email protection Behavior analysis(AI) defenses for zero day attacks and ransomware Webcam hijacking protection Encrypted data safe for private files Website payment shield, protects against fake websites All seemed to work pretty well. There are a few annoyances that may or may not be important to you. The first is continual advertising of other AVG products in the console. This is acceptable in a 'free' version, but should be muted in a purchased version. The second is the Security Console UI. It's improved over previous versions, but it's still clunky to use. Configuration may require popping into one or more sub-sub menus or even sub-sub-sub menus. The last is the lack of a backup/recovery option. Even the best defenses will miss something. When the only solution is to wipe the drive and reinstall, a good backup/recovery solution is invaluable to limit the pain.

It's antivirus. I've no idea if it works or not to be honest. I'm assuming it will, but I'm not planning on going out to contract some viruses on my machine. :) The install was fairly simple. There was a problem when activating the key to turn my account on. If you don't put the hyphens in, it will throw an error saying the code is wrong. I personally chose to not install the shopkeeper browser plugin. I didn't want to load up my browser with memory hogging addins. Moreover I didn't want this software tracking my shopping habits or attempting to "big brother" my purchasing. Overall, I didn't see any performance hits and there was a nice option to silence all the alerts from the app so it won't badger me about things. I simply don't have a lot of ways to really test this without putting my pc at some sort of risk. I would say that it's kinda annoying for it to mention pc performance problems only to try to sell you another of their product line. Since it's a paid product I don't see much point in it having ads inside. I'm also not a huge fan of subscription based AV. The AVG product seems to be fairly well regarded in the business so I wouldn't be too concerned about using it. If you can get a good deal on it, go for it! **Another note: it did seem to hobble my ability to manage my linksys router using routerlogin.com. I figure there's a workaround, but I haven't looked into it. I had to connect to the router using the routers internal ip.

PROS: - Easy to register your product key online - Installation is fast and simple - AVG is a trusted and reputable company CONS: - Not everyone really needs this or would want it ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let me start by saying that I will always appreciate an extra layer of security, especially if it doesn't require you to jump through several hoops to do your normal daily tasks. The only time I really notice that the software is there is when: (1) I notice a very small delay (about a second) in pages loading and (2) if I visit a retail page there will be a banner in the top showing current coupons/offers. I don't think this is for everyone, especially if you're really good about your browsing habits, but it's nice for someone that isn't too "tech-savy". Would I recommend this product? If you want another layer of security, or want to buy it for a friend/relative that may be clicking links they shouldn't, then I would highly recommend it.

AVG is easy to install and performs well, it caught several instances of malware embedded in suspect emails that I received. I noticed no performance degradation on any of the systems I installed AVG on. This version of the product does not come with performance or tuning tools and rather than hiding those features, it reminds you that you don't have them, encouraging you to purchase them. Don't really care for that with a paid for product, if you are downloading a free version I would understand the push to paid features. The interface of the program is simple, however I found myself trying to find configuration items that were buried within menus that did not necessarily make a lot of sense. I do like the boot time scan option which will allow you to scan your system prior to the OS running, only product where I have seen this option. Also a dedicated button to scan USB/DVD drive is handy. Overall this is a good product under the hood, but it could use a new paint job.

For an antivirus suite that has a free option, the selling points of this “internet Security” suite upgrade are iffy relative to the cost. The enhanced options include protections from ransomware, camera hacking, and copycat websites - and cover this protection for up to three PC’s - but the much better deal is to go all-out for the Ultimate edition that, for just a little more money, includes a suite of tune-up utilities, covers unlimited devices, and includes coverage and utilities for Mac and Android devices as well. Don’t get me wrong, the PC coverage for this suite is stellar - and would probably be a great option to give peace of mind to anyone who, through their intentional or unintentional browsing or email habits, might be more susceptible to online fraud or abuse. But from a cost/benefits point of view, the better deal from AVG is their “Ultimate” edition.

It's getting harder to tell a spam or scam email from the real thing. Websites are even harder to protect. AVG Internet Security helps protect my PC in real time. Some plus features are the HACKER Attack reports, so you can see if you have been targeted. Webcam protection to keep your camera from being used to spy on you. Email attachement scanning. The last is the newest nusaince I've noted as the fake emaikls are looking so much like the real thing. I've been happy wit h past products from AVG and am keeping current today and tomorrow. Yes,the intitial install takes about 10-15 minutes, but imagine the amount of data you are protecting.

I just installed my AVG Internet Security on multiple devices. It was easy to install and activate, and I had no problem installing it on my other devices. So far I've had no issues with email or surfing the web. It's operating nicely in the background. One complaint though, after running my first scan it gave me messages about fixing privacy issues and PC performance, which were just come-ons for separate Privacy and PC Tune up software. I hate the way they ask you if you want to do this or that and if you answer yes then they ask you to buy additional programs for additional fees. Just offer it all bundled as a software suite and charge a few more bucks for it. I probably would have paid the extra, but after spending a hundred bucks then being asked to spend another $40 and $50 for Privacy and Tune-up fixes, forget it.

Long time AVG user and thought it was time to protect myself more than the FREE version offers. I try to stay on the safer side of the net but sometimes bad things happen to good sites so you should always be sure your computer is protected. Last issue this flagged was a website that decided to start mining for bitcoins, robbing my computer's resources. Thankfully AVG caught it and I quickly left, searching elsewhere for the info I was looking for. Also like the webcam protection where you can make sure it is only enabled when you explicitly say so or only from trusted apps or never. Still playing around with some of the newer features. Coming from a Unix background myself, I like the tool/screen that shows which apps are using which ports. Not as easy to get elsewhere. Good protection for another year...

AVG leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to protection against malware or virus. AVG seems to be a market with their "FREE" solution and believes people like the product enough to fork over $$. Its not really that great and in my honest opinion is more like bloatware. Does it work? Not really for what the company wants you to believe. The interface is not user friendly, in fact other solutions shred AVG to bits in terms of a pleasing graphical user interface. In independent reviews AVG could not detect 5 different attacks. These included ransomware, phishing, and firewall. For the home user who will more than likely pick up malware (even if they don't try) will not be protected!

AVG Internet Security offers effective virus protection and internet security for PCs. This software edition provides protection for up to 3 computers on the same subscription for 1-year at a time. This edition provides great protection and coverage than AVGs traditional free edition. PROS - Good PC protection - Does not require an optical drive to install, just download and use code. - Easy to use and runs lightly in the background - Cost-effective - Good for basic internet surfing and usage CONS - Not the best option for PC Internet Security on the market based on benchmark testing - Not recommended for power-users or business PCs

This version doesn't have an "install-then-nag" style of registration; you enter your code at the download point on the device you are installing. It installed quickly. The PC is now protected from threats on web sites, downloads and software running with Windows. The user panel gives the option for all kinds of tweaks including exclusions and scan schedules. It's very easy to use. I didn't notice any real difference in performance once it was installed, but the PC has quite a bit of RAM so it wouldn't affect it as much as a machine running 4GB or less. The 3-device license gives you coverage for one year.
