Amazing Living Room Home Theater Experience

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased AWOL-3500 Pro + 120" AWOL Floor Rising screen and have been using it for the last 2 months. It has been a wonderful overall experience for both movie watching and gaming. Following are pros and cons in my opinion: Pros: - Wonderful Image Quality: The sharpness and image quality The color accuracy is pretty good. Requires tweaking of the settings, but Reddit posts and AWOL community discussions in Facebook have good guidance for that. - Bright enough in medium lit room. Gets washed out in a room with a lot of natural night, but with shades/blinds down, it is bright enough to watch during the day in living room as well. - Dolby Vision + Atmos works very well with connected devices: tested with FireTVStick (included) and XBOX. Recommend a top-end Atmos Sound System to complement the projector for a great theater setup. - Gaming has great experience. No visible input lag as tested on XBOX. Input lag might become an issue for competitive gaming, but most of the single player games and casual multiplayer games are great. Make sure to set the low-lag mode and turbo-mode on for gaming (and keep it off when not gaming). - 3D is pretty good, has good depth and quality. Need to try with BluRay player as streaming options today do not have similar resolution as that of BlueRay player. Cons: - The projection and screen alignment is very painful. Even with the instructions followed exactly, it is quite hard to set it up right. Keystone correction helps, but still its challenging. Recommend AWOL to publish video tutorials for guiding the setup. - Many settings in their default are not optimal. Required online searches and exploration in AWOL community forums before getting the right setup. Recommend AWOL to improve their setup guide instructions. - Improved instructions on integrating with Smart Home setups would be helpful.

    THE Projector to Experience!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This thing has renewed my love for movies. I purchased both this and AWOL's 132 inch cinematic ALR screen. I have been on the fence over buying a projector for a while now. I learned about the AWOL through a bajillion hours of research (reading and YT videos) trying to find the best bang for the buck. If you are in a similar situaion, read on, my friend. I am not going to spout specs as that's not a review. I am going to just provide my experience. First of all, and it's got to be said... yes, this projector is more expensive than others. For me it came down to the following: 1. Incredible image. It really is a game-changer. I hate that term, but here we are. We were watching The Force Awakens and at the beginning its night and dark. All the detail is clear. Star Wars is known for bright white flashes during blaster hits. The intensity of the blast is startling, and dare I say painful... In a good way. The colors are beautiful. We watched Lawrence of Arabia last weekend and it was spectacular. I saw SO many things you wouldn't easily see on a standard-sized screen, and impossible to see on something like a tablet, or laptop. 2. It lets you choose the environment you wish to interact with. I don't want to be tied down to Google TV or other flavors that push what they want you to see as soon as you turn on your device. You choose what you want (Apple TV and 4K Blu-Rays in my case). 3. Quality of the device. AWOL uses a real glass lens. If you know anything about photography or projection, glass always wins over plastics. 4. DOLBY VISION! 4. Tripple Laser source. It's so amazingly bright and the colors are intense. As silly as is sounds, I saw a T-Mobile commercial and the magenta made me take pause. Holy Crap... look at that! But it's great in the subtle as well. When watching movies in Dolby Vision you see such subtle nuance in... well everything. As to my experience. First know that I am listening through a 5.1 setup so I can't really speak to the projector sound. In the past, I would browse the internet or phone while watching TV or movies. But, as mentioned above, this has completely reawakened my love for watching movies. I haven't opened my devices because I have been immersed in the movie. <-- THAT! That is the most unexpected side effect of this whole experience. Movies at home have always been fun, but you will never get the theater experience... or so I thought. This is really different than looking at a glass TV panel. It's not a TV and shouldn't be thought of as one. I don't know how to put the right words on this... But the projected image is different. It feels different. I perceive things differently. I know it's a huge jump in screen size (coming from a 55 in. Panasonic 1080 Plasma) but again, and not trying to sound like a broken record, but it's an experience vs just watching a thing. Even movies I have seen my whole life (5th Element, Bladerunner...) are all somehow really fresh and new again. It IS the movie experience. If you have the means to buy a projector, I highly recommend the AWOL 3500 Pro.

I'll just decribe this in one word: WOW!! Stop your researching on what is the best 4K UST out there. This is it! The search is over! Ordered the AWOL LTV-3500 Pro and I could not believe how bright this thing is. We are talking OLED quality folks! Drop everything, and order this bad boy ASAP! The Dolby Vision rocks! I know it is expensive but once you experience this machine, you will know that you made the correct decision. Again, this is the BEST!

    **CONVERTED** UST Projector enthusiast now!!

Never thought I'd be persuaded to move from a large screen TV (have 85" in our bedroom), and was going to buy a 100" for my dedicated theater (converted from our formal dining room), but WOW, we don't even NEED the curtains drawn!!! For less than the price of a 100" TV of semi-decent quality, we got 120" of perfection! This thing is BRIGHT for sportscasts and I cannot notice any difference in picture quality between my high-end 85" (newest LEDs or QLEDs or whatever the heck they are using now) and this projector. With the curtains drawn for a movie, the blacks are black as the rest of the room. As a total newbie to home-theater, I knew I did it right when my electrician-friend who was putting in my theater lighting (LED around the ceiling crown-molding) said he'd seen people blow $50k on home theaters to get this good a picture (and sound - Nakamichi Dragon system), and couldn't believe how little (relatively speaking) this setup cost me. Will also say the 3500 is SUPER easy to use, with the built-in 4k Firestick, that's pretty much all we use - as everything is at our fingertips! If I want to run an old VHS movie on the VCR or play a 4k Blu-ray or DVD, the AWOL remote is also very user-friendly for the rare times I needed it. Easy learning curve. We Love it, and will never go back, as AWOL's customer service was tops, also! Cannot say enough good things -- and NO, I AM NOT being paid to say these things. It's just that good! -- Dr. P

We're glad we went with the 3500. The picture quality rivals most 4k televisions. It can be a little finicky to set up but be patient, it's worth the time. It does benefit from some picture tweaking and I recommend the AV Forums picture settings (Google it). Look, don't expect OLED black levels, but they are pretty good. I didn't love the projector the first day I set it up but after some adjustments, I'm very happy with the picture. A real surprise was the sound quality. The onboard speakers are decent and work very well for every day watching. The 3D is legit but I wish it was passive versus active shutter. This is my first UST, so I don't have a comparison but I think I made the right decision

This short throw projector is amazing! It's brightness lights up the room with vivid color and "knock your socks off 3D!" It has plenty of ports to connect external devices (sound system, etc.). On top of all that, the picture quality is fabulous. It has turned our living room into a great home theater. An excellent purchase!!

This is my 3rd projector and first using a short throw. After reading other reviews I decided to replace my JVC RS2000 which had a phenomenal picture until I plugged this bad boy in. I am blown away by the picture quality and sharpness. Also the brightness is so much better than my other projectors. The 3D is awesome and bright! My previous projectors tended to get noisy from fans but this remains nice and quiet. I could go on and on. If your on the fence and you think your long throw projector looks good and couldn't get much better, think again. This is so good!

As good as OLED, Great 3D

This is my first projector, so I wasn’t expecting the brightness, clarity and deep blacks of the old LG OLED65E6P. Was wrong! This looks like a 120” OLED screen. The 3D isn’t stronger, but seems much more immersive because of the size. I don’t see a difference between my former passive glasses and these active glasses either, which was an initial concern. I was on chat with the AWOL folks prior to purchase and during setup and have to give thumbs up to them for the instant tech support throughout and a really amazing 3D projector & screen. We now watch Survivor and The Amazing Race on a screen the size of our living room wall, just as clear and vivid as the old OLED. With 3 lasers instead of bulbs, this projector should last longer than an OLED TV or a projector with bulbs that burn out. Highly recommended.

This projector is incredibly bright and a crisp picture, just like watching a TV. It's a true movie theater experience in the room. The best part is I don't need the room completely dark, it is great with lights on or shades on windows open. It was also way easier than I was expecting to set up, seamless and simple.

I meticulously review items before I buy them as I don't like spending gobs of money for items that won't last. I was hinestly looking for the best affordable 3d option. As this format has mostly gone the way of the dodo there are not many options. However projectors seem to be the way to go for this specific market. I looked at long throw projectors because they are cheap but saw a short throw projector in person when they were relatively new. The picture was leaps and bounds beyond long throws, but not quite as nice as a tv in ambient light. I am so glad I researched short throw projectors before I bought one. My house has tons of light which is nice for most things, but horrible for projectors. While the 2500 and 3000 do put out enough light to appear like tvs, the 3500 pro is definitely the ust for me. After receiving my screen yesterday, I tested it out and I felt like I was at the movies in 4k! The speakers in the projector are like having a soundbar, so I'll get speakers to complete my theater effect, but it still sounds ok out of the box. If you pull the trigger on the 3500 ust, do yourself a favor and look at alr screens. They are meant for these projectors and make your image pop out like you're at the movies. Also, the 3d is really nice. Definitely get this projector if you're looking to run a 3D setup.

I Have heard about the 3500 pro being the best UST Projector out there available in the UST world. I am building a dedicated home theater in my basement. I have 8’ ceilings and one ceiling beam to deal with. The ceiling hung projector was going to make this a bit of a challenge to accomplish with a challenge to get a decent size screen for viewing. This is when I started looking at UST Projectors. Everything I researched and watched on video AWOL came out on top of everybody list. What made my final decision to invest in AWOL 3500 pro with a 132” ALR CINEMATIC Screen was Dave Goldberg from AWOL and there customer support team. All questions or concerns Dave and customer service support team addressed promptly and courteously . Dave made sure that my purchase and any concerns of my AWOL equipment going into my theater build I would not be disappointed. The AWOL 3500 pro will be leading the way in my new theater build and I am very excited about it. Overall I couldn’t be happier . I highly recommend AWOL VISION for your UST needs along with there sale staff and great customer support team.

I, like maybe most people have a setup with my Theater room, sound system, Blah Blah Blah, speakers, etc. I decided to up my game and go with a Projector UST. After much research AWOL caught my eye. I shared this with my wife; minus the pricing of course and off we went to purchase this unit. We are 2.5months of use. Las Vegas gets ALOT of SUN! Wow is maybe the first 5 words that come out of your mouth when you first set up the AWOL LTV-3500 Projector! What a picture, day or night. We also pared this with their ALR-Cinematic 150'' screen. Its a perfect paring. We currently have a LG 86in TV thats very nice, great picture for movies, playstation and sports! The AWOL LTV-3500 just kicks its butt. Being able to watch 3D movies is just a huge bonus. My wife and I no longer have to go watch IMAX movies, we have one currently set up in our own home, and what a view it is.

I replaced my Optoma P1 with the LTV-3500 Pro and am quite pleased with the difference in brightness and overall picture quality. The projector controls, while based on Android, do not /feel/ like Android, which is nice (the Optoma felt insanely sluggish.) I also appreciate (but did not use) the 4k Fire stick that it came with - it's nice for a manufacturer to not integrate "smart tv" features that will immediately be outdated. A few of the controls seem a bit esoteric (startup sounds and the such), but I also haven't bothered to look them up in the manual to see if they're useful. I would have liked more options for correcting screen geometry, but it's good enough. One note of caution is that buyers should be realistic about expectations. This is a bright projector, but it's not going to magically make your theater room darker. Focus at the upper corners is better than the Optoma, but it's still a bit soft. One big positive for Optoma P1/P2 owners looking to upgrade - the throw is almost IDENTICAL. I had this up and running on my fixed screen in 30 minutes - didn't need to raise or lower anything. That made my day!

I own the LTV-3500 Pro with an AWOL ALR screen, and from one cinephile to the next, there has not ever been a better way to watch film in the home theater. Best 3D I've ever seen (definitely better than theater), great color/black levels, and incredible 4k image on a truly big screen. This 3500 lumen model specifically is worth the extra $ to get that coveted brightness level, which allows you to play sports or other entertainment with full lighting, without the expected fade that projectors have historically been subject to. Certainly the price makes it not for every household, but if you are looking for the peak home theater experience, look no further.
