Quality product with common limitations

The Level keypad is a quality product, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't solve any of the common limitations of a keypad device and adds a new little wrinkle. Out of the box, the Level lock products do not include support for the keypad, but after a quick firmware update the keypad is ready to be paired and setup (I am using the Level Lock). What's great about the product is that, beyond creating a passcode for your door, it adds that expected smart lock feature of creating a temporary pass code for guests. Of course, the keypad needs to be accessible to guests to make use of said feature. In my testing, I found that the range of the keypad is slightly further than using a phone. My phone's range is about 35 feet. The keypad is about 40 feet. This is important because it lets you keep the "invisible" aspect of the Level products, i.e. you aren't forced to mount the keypad next to the lock within 5-10 feet. You could mount it on your back door (if it is within 40 feet).
The device includes two AAA batteries, but they died within a day (I think I got like 5-10 unlocks). I had to replace them. I hope that doesn't imply bad battery management going forward.
Also included are device mounts. The design of this is an issue. While everything is super easy to install and it is water proof, it isn't exactly a "safe" design. In other words, someone could just come to your house and steal the keypad fairly easy. There isn't really anything protecting it from theft. Who wants to replace an $80 device?
The device works fine, is very responsive (when the batteries work) and has some pretty LED features. If you enter the key code wrong, the check button flashes red. The biggest issue with this device (which I'm guessing is an issue with any smart keypad device, so I'm not knocking the Level device in particular here) is that there is no feedback that the door locks or unlocks successfully. Whereas the app will change from black to white when it successfully unlocks, or white to black when it locks, and will spit back an error in a failed locking attempt, the Level keypad provides 0 feedback. Yes, you get a red indicator for a failed keycode, and a white indicator for a successful keycode, but there is nothing beyond listening to the door that indicates that it was successful. In my case, my Level Lock install is not perfect as needed (the plate on the wall that receives the bolt doesn't line up 100%...nothing I can do, it's not Level's fault, just an old house). It is very hard to hear the beep that indicates a failed lock, whereas the phone app shows an alert.
Because of the indicator limitation and the risk of theft of the device, I really only see myself using this as an unlocking device that I leave in my car as sort of a garage opener - get home, type in the passcode, no need to fiddle with car keys or the phone app.
If Level is reading, you need to add an indicator of a failed locking attempt, and you need to make the design more secure so people cant just steal the device.

The keypad for the Level lock touch edition is a nice addition for entry into my home. Scanning the QR code and following the in app instructions were a breeze! I was absolutely blown away at how quick and easy it was to pair the keypad with the lock. Installation was also incredibly easy as I used the included double sided tape to secure the keypad base to the wall and mount the screws.
Setting the codes in app was quick and easy! I set a code for each of the members of my family to insure they had a code that would make it easy for them to remember. It’s great to know I can set a code for someone to use and remove the code at a later date to restrict access into my home.
I can not stress how unbelievably easy set up was for the Level touch pad, this was probably by far the easiest tech product I have ever set up and paired to date.
If you own a compatible Level lock and are thinking about installing a keypad for code entry into your home, you will not be disappointed in this product!

Rarely works. Buttons light up when pressed but that’s it, can’t see it during the day. No sounds, no haptic feedback, nothing to let you know that the number actually got pressed. I’ve had it less than two weeks and had to completely reprogram it several times. Getting returned. Lock sucks too.

The Level Keypad is a companion that extends the functionality of Level smart locks. I personally have the level bolt which is completely hidden in the door (my front door) and prior to the keypad could only be unlocked using the original door hardware or the app. Adding the keypad would give me the functionality to unlock with another method. While the auto unlock (door will unlock on approach when I've been away from home) is nice, the lock fitment in my door has some issues so sometimes the lock needs multiple tries at which point, I need to get my phone, unlock it, launch the app, then tap and hold the lock icon for a few seconds. Also, being able to share access to the home without requiring others install the app is a plus.
The keypad looks nice and has an aesthetic that matches the lock design - though the lock itself is hidden. It comes with doublesided tape and mounting screws. The tape and a blue backing on one side and white on the other. The setup instructions don't mention the tape at all and my assumption is that it's for attachment to wood or drywall. It also comes with screws and anchors. I used the tap, white side applied to the keypad and it has held up outside on wood siding through rain and snow. Setup with pretty simple. In the app you add a keypad to an existing lock, it pairs the two and did a firmware update on the keypad. Once that was done, I could configure a code in the app.
The keypad pretty much just has numeric keys and a "enter" button. The keypad was pretty responsive to finger presses. It worked with my fingers wet and through gloves. With gloves however, I needed to press down harder on the keys to register a press. One thing that's common regardless of what was doing the pressing, the first press seems to usually get missed if you haven't touched the keypad in the last minute or so. I'm guessing to conserve battery, the keypad goes to sleep and only wakes on a press (versus waking periodically) and so there's a delay where it gets confused because by the time it registers the press that wakes it up, you've probably already pressed another key. As a result, I often have to enter the code at least twice. The next issue is that there's a lag after hitting "enter" and the lock actuating. It seems that the keypad doesn't stay in constant contact with the lock (again, likely to conserve battery) and doesn't attempt a connection until after you've hit enter to get it to try applying a code. While the lag isn't too long, the combination with the often missed first press which forces you to try again means that getting out my phone to do things manually starts to be a competetive alternative. Finally, like the app, there's no dedicated lock/unlock button or long press action on a key to lock. Instead, you are changing the current lock status. To be fair, the lock applies some smarts to this. If it didn't successfully lock, rather than trying to unlock, if you're still in the same session, it will retry the locking action. The keypad doesn't seem to do this which seems to support my guess that it only connects to the lock to send an unlock code. The lack of a dedicated lock button or special keypress is particularly annoying on the keypad as when locking the door, one shouldn't need to know a code and locking the door with the keypad takes extra time as you need to enter a code for each lock attempt. My final keypad issue is lighting. I can solve this by having a motion activated or night time activated porch light. The keypad is quite invisible at night on my porch and doesn't light up until you successfully press a key (each key is individually backlit).
I think a lot of the issues I've mentioned with the keypad so far are due to battery optimizations and perhaps could be fixed with a firmware update. Given that I've got oodles of rechargeable batteries and using these versus one-time use alkalines is getting more popular, I think I could trade off needing to swap batteries every few months for more responsive functionality. Or, if the app could offer that as an option, then each owner could decide rather than having all locks cater to my personal use preferences. The final issue, which can't be fixed however by firmware, is the lack of a fingerprint reader. Not that every smart lock keypad needs to have a fingerprint reader, but there's no option at all from Level. For my children, this means I need them to both memorize a code (which they can do) and be able to reach all the keypad keys which makes things more uncomfortable for the typical users (adults). Also, that means they'd need to be trained on how to deal with lock failures, particularly on the unlock side. A fingerprint reader provides a one touch interface that would be easy to manage.
Unfortunately, I have to give the Level keypad a two-star rating. While it carries out its functionality, there's so many compromises that seem to be made in the interest of battery life that the keypad's only saving grace is that others can unlock my front door without installing the app. It doesn't appreciably save me time and while more convenient for relatives, doesn't much improve the convenience of having a smart lock for me, the primary user.

This Level Lock Keypad is a great addition to the Level Lock Bolt that I have. Initially I only used the Level Lock Bolt which did require me to either use my cell phone, a key or manually twist the lever to lock/unlock the door. This was not as convenient as using the keypad. With the keypad it is many times more advantageous relative to my needs. I did notice I lost the keypad backlight feature for some reason; so I removed and reinstalled the batteries and that cleared the cobwebs out of the electronics, and the keypad lights were back.
Just like the Level Lock Bolt the quality of the keypad is solid, and the installation process is very simple.
The lock itself is advertised as the ‘Invisible Smart Lock’ and there are advantages that some people will prefer such that they would not want a visible keypad so that the lock appears to be a normal mechanical lock. But the keypad does increase the useability for me so that I can simply unlock or lock the door without getting my phone or a key out. If you want to maintain some of the ‘invisibility’, you can install the keypad in a less conspicuous area. Since it does have about a 20 foot range some of the invisibility could be retained and the ease of the keypad would still be available.
I often go for long walks and I like to lock the door. With the keypad I can easily get back in. Also I can give a code to trusted friends who can then have access without using the cell phone app or a key. I love the quality and aesthetics of the Level Lock Keypad and would recommend it highly. Tip of my cap to the Level Lock designers and engineers. Well done.

A MUST HAVE ACCESSORY FOR YOUR LEVEL LOCK

The Keypad arrived with the pad, mounting bracket, 2 AAA batteries, 2 screws, 2 wall anchors and double sided tape. I already had the Level Lock app installed on my iPhone so went into the ADD KEYPAD area. Then you simply power on the Keypad by pulling the battery release tab out. Lights on the Keypad will flash for a few seconds and you know it's ready to go. Pick a location within 20 feet of the lock itself and the app will advise you if you're within range or not. Mine was found immediately. I then used the 2 screws provided, secured the wall mount and inserted the Keypad. Once all that was finished it was time to pair. Very easy! It paired up immediately and was ready to use.
The app asks you to provide a personalized code for ease of entering your home, but before that there was a firmware update to install, which went in seamlessly. I then created the code and it was all finished. When you use the Keypad you'll hear a chime to let you know it's working properly. This is a "must have" accessory item in my opinion! Press some buttons and you're right in the door. I definitely recommend the purchase!!

The only thing I felt was missing with the Level lock was a way to enable temporary access for someone when away from home. I used to have an old pushbutton lock and received a notice from another device that water had been detected under the sink when I was 12 hours from home. I was able to contact a neighbor and provide them a code with a code that expired after 24 hours, they went in and saved me a huge repair bill.
With the Level Keypad, I now have that ability again. I just program a 4-digit code and, if the need arises, I can give it to whomever needs it, then change it afterward. It also has the option to create codes with specific times they begin and expire.
The keypad was also super simple to install. Just affix the mount to a location within 20 ft of the lock, let it power up, and create your codes. There was a firmware update that had to run before I could initially pair it and program codes, but that took less than two minutes.
The lock is still far and away my favorite smart lock, even without the keypad, but this is the icing on the cake.

The Level lock keypad was a well-needed add-on for my Level Lock Smart Lock. I now have options beyond the Level phone app. I can now enter codes from the doorway, have multiple codes for family members' guests, and manage those codes through the phone app. As the kids and family guests don't all have app.
The setup is straightforward, like adding a Bluetooth speaker to your phone. The installation is straightforward and fast. Find the location within 20 Ft of the level lock you are pairing with and mount it with two screws included in the packaging. It has a 1-year battery life with included batteries in the package. It works with Level Bolt Level Lock and The level Lock- Touch Edition the Level Lock line, so If have one of these it will work with yours.
Now the kids can come in, type in their code, and be in the house.
I have an Airbnb property, and I've been looking for a way to manage codes for my renters. And this is perfect as it can store up to 50 codes. And they can be easily be deleted and changed.

The Level KeyPad is a much needed accessory for your Level Smart Lock if you want to allow someone to gain access to your home without having the Level Lock installed on their phone. Most likely someone that is not a part of your immediate family that has access to your home on a daily basis. It can also be used to lock and unlock your device when you don’t have your phone with you. The keypad is made of plastic and appears to only come in home color. Hopefully, the color it comes in will match your decor. Setting up the lock seemed fairly easy and straightforward until I got to the end of the setup process. It asked if I wanted to enter my personal code for the lock. When I clicked Continue it took me to another screen, which is basically the settings screen for the keypad. It took me a minute to figure out that I had to scroll down through settings and search for Personalized Codes. I would assume this would be very confusing to some. Especially when you’re ready to enter your new code. You’d expect it to take you directly to a screen where you would begin to enter your code. Not take you to a settings page, then have you search for the link that will take you to the screen where you will enter your code. I’m able to adjust the beeping sounds on the lock, but was not able to find anything for the keypad. With no beeping sound, there are times when I’m not sure if it registered my keypress. This would be helpful if it had an audible sound because there are times when I press a certain number and it did not register that number. This would cause me to enter my numerical code all over again. I also with there was a shortcut to lock the device, instead of having to enter your entire code. I have several smart locks that have a lock button you can press that will allow you to lock the door behind you as you exit. I did not find any such icon on this keypad, and I’m not sure if this keypad has this feature. The keypad does a pretty good job locking and unlocking the lock, but there are times when it takes a few seconds before the lock engages. I wish it could be fast all the time. Overall, it’s a good lock but there could be a few tweaks that can make it even better.

A Great Accessory for Level Locks

I've owned and used a Level Bolt for a year or so now, and I've found it useful, especially as it remains totally hidden inside the deadbolt on my door -- an essential requirement as a renter. My main complaint has always been the Siri/HomeKit integration, which isn't 100% reliable in my experience. Long story short, locking/unlocking via Siri doesn't always work for me outside my apartment when I'm not on my home wifi network, and when it does work there's often a delay of many seconds. The Level app itself always works when within Bluetooth range of the Bolt, but by the time I open my phone, open the app and activate the Bolt, I may as well have just used my key.
Enter Level's new Keypad: an accessory that mounts near your door and opens up a whole new way of using a compatible Level product. The Keypad itself is larger than it looks in photos, with a sleek white plastic body and flat, touch-sensitive warm gray/bronze-ish front. As is expected from Level's products the Keypad is appropriately sleek and minimal, but with a quality feel right out of the box.
Installation was dead-simple, with both screws and adhesive mounting options included in the box. The Level app will walk you through installation, including allowing you to test the wireless connection to your lock before you mount the Keypad. I chose to mount my Keypad on the wide, flat wooden trim around my front door using the included screws.
Pairing the Keypad to your Level lock is quick and easy with the Level app; the app even found an available firmware update and installed it as part of the process. I have to say, it was one of the easiest pairing processes of the various smart home devices I've used, and should be easy for anyone to accomplish.
Adding access codes is straightforward as well. Codes can be 4-6 digits, and each can have a unique name. Even better, codes can be duration-limited, meaning you can limit a code to working only during specific time windows. This is a great security feature for folks that only need limited access to your home, such as guests, dog-walkers, house-cleaners and the like.
So, how does the Keypad work? Quickly and reliably, with instantaneous locking and unlocking. Simply type in your code and press the check mark and your lock will immediately lock or unlock. In the time I've been using it the Keypad has been 100% reliable, giving me the confidence to leave my keys at home and rely solely on the Keypad. Nice!
My complaints are relatively minor. Since the buttons are all touch-sensitive, there's no physical feedback when you press one, only a visual confirmation, which is the key lighting up. This may be an issue for folks with less-than-perfect vision, or -- as in my case -- a keypad in full sunlight during the morning hours. I recommend pressing each key with the flat part of your finger, rather than the very tip, which registers the press more accurately. At night, the keypad lights up brightly and I have no problem seeing it.
Overall, this is exactly the missing accessory I've been wanting for my Level Bolt, and I highly recommend anyone with a Level product take a look and see if the Keypad is right for you.

Elegant add on for Level Bolt

I am a big fan of my level locks, as a heavy Apple HomeKit user they have been very nice additions to my smart home setup. My only complaint has been the lack of any backup option for entry if the HomeKit commands don’t work properly. Thankfully that has not happened very often, but it can be problematic on the occasions when it does as I prefer to no longer carry my house key around. This add on keypad has been a perfect solution to that occasional problem as well as to give me an important option for allowing easy entry to others who don’t have access to my HomeKit system.
Setup is extremely easy, simply using the Level app you first make sure that the lock you wish to pair with the keypad is using up to date firmware which is very quick. Then you mount it with either a 3M tape option or by screws, power it up and start pairing. Pairing took half a minute. Then, you setup entry codes and that’s it. Using it is incredibly simple as well, simply type in your code followed by the checkmark button and the lock opens. I have had total success with it working flawlessly every time, even in the rare instances where HomeKit does not respond properly. Level recommends that it be installed within 15 feet of the lock you want to be controlled with the keypad, so you have a lot of flexibility with where you mount it as well. In my case it is attached to the door frame right next to the deadbolt and it looks great.
Easy to install, looks nice, and works flawlessly. Couldn’t ask for more from a product. I only wish it could lock the deadbolt as well as unlock it, but I don’t doubt that function could be added via an update down the road. I am very pleased with my Level Keypad and am very glad it was brought to market. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants additional options with their Level setup.

Review for Keypad for Level Locks:
I really like my Level Lock because it replaces the existing deadbolt. Its clean design looks good without adding a bulky “smart lock” look. That said, it’s not as flexible for offering access to others. They have to download the Level app, create a profile, etc. in order for me to give them access. The Level keypad solves this in a simple, though imperfect way. It mounts easily outside your door, either with included screws or adhesive panel, is very weatherproof, and is small and neutral-colored enough to be unobtrusive. The setup is very nicely done through the app, including tips on mounting and setting up access codes. The keypad allows up to 50 codes, between four and six digits. It also lets you set access to “always” or to a limited day and time span. The keypad itself is wireless and uses Bluetooth to communicate with the lock; it just needs to be within 30 feet to work. One disappointment is the response time. It can take several seconds after you finish entering the code to unlock. I’m afraid this could cause confusion to a first time user.

This was such an easy addition to my Level Bolt (deadbolt). Simply open the box, and perform a firmware update on the lock and the touch pad. Then open your Level app, add a touch-pad, and you're done!
The small touch pad (about 2" x 4") allows you to choose your own code to operate the lock. You can also create a temporary code for visitors/house guests, dog-walkers,etc. which can be used one time, or for a set period of time. The touch pad lights up as you enter your digits, and a "red" light indicates an incorrect code.
The installation was simple with the included screws/mollies, or with the optional sticky decal for glass surfaces. The entire unit is weather resistant so outdoor installation is possible, and the unit can be placed up to 20 feet away (mine is closer to 30' but works fine). I have noticed that the buttons require an actual "push", so a mere "touch" won't do the trick.
If you've already got either the Level Bolt, or any Level Smart lock, this is a definite bonus and worth purchasing!
