I really enjoyed the sound of the H4's. After I purchased it I saw multiple reviews with quality issues.
After studying the design I could see where there might be problems.
Another issue was the total lack of interface. It would only tell you the battery was 10% or less with a flashing light. A couple of dings would indicate power on or off. I also had some trouble with the small and closely set controls.
Considering the price and issues, I somewhat reluctantly returned them. It's really a 3 1/2 star rating but the sound is great.

Acoustical Perfection!!

I had the distinct honor of testing out Bang & Olufsen’s H4 headphones. Let’s start with packaging, the H4’s arrived in a nice box that held them neatly within a black, velvety-like enclosure. I will admit, I was surprised that the headphones at their pricing didn’t include a carrying case.
*App-before using the headphones an app, “Beoplay” must be downloaded for IOS and/or Android. I have a Samsung Note Edge and the syncing was easy. I will note that the directions were poorly written leaving me to figure through the setup process.
*The feel of the H4’s is comfortable because of the lamb skin. The feel is likened to a soft pillow on the ears.
*The aesthetics of the headphones are beautiful as the headphones are of a rich brush gray-metallic aluminum.
*The sound which is simply amazing came as no surprise as B&O has a rich history of acoustical perfection. As such the sound of these headphones didn’t disappoint. The headphones put out plenty of bass but with clear sounds and not loud “scratchy” noises.
*B&O states that the headphones last for up to 19 hours per charge. I can’t personally attest to this, but I did wear them for a couple of days and they still don’t need to be charged.
I highly recommend these headphones to users who want quality, class, along with pure sound from a trusted name in the audio industry.

These are an excellent set of headphones. They look great, they're comfortable, the sound is superb, and they're loud. Even before truly "breaking" them in (which is very subjective these days), I was very impressed. Music lovers alike will not be disappointed. The biggest downside was audio quality during movies. Quick and simple setup. Full Bluetooth integration with calling features and Siri support. Only includes the 3.5mm Aux cable and charging cable. No charger (very common) or carrying/storage case (big disappointment). Very reasonably priced.
Pros:
Simple quick setup
Look and feel
Lightweight
Long range
Loud
Balanced sound
Great and balanced bass
Flexible functionality
Battery Life
There is not much to dislike about these headphones. It takes about 30seconds to get them setup. From the start, the sound output was outstanding. The highs, mids, and lows are equally balanced with a solid bass punch. It was nice that the bass was not excessive nor too muted. It came through and supported the lows without either getting washed out. I was also very impressed at the loudness. Many wireless headsets have this problem where they do not get as loud as wired headsets. There are no issues here and you can enjoy these in the loudest of environments. The sound was consistently good throughout a range of genres and output sources. They work flawless with my laptop, phone, tablet, etc. Another high point was the quality of sound regardless of the quality of the soundtrack. There are higher-end headphones that completely lose their sound quality with lower quality soundtracks, but this set did a great job. I was able to walk at least 20 feet from the sound source without any interruption. Listening in crowded environments did not cause any issues. Wireless calling features and Siri worked well. The three button setup is nice, simple, and easy to use. Battery life was excellent, I used left it on all day once and it was still going at the end of the day. Overall, the look is very nice too. They are very lightweight an sturdy. I can tell high quality materials were used. I will say my ears got warmer quicker than other headsets, so this may be of concern to some.
Cons:
Movies
No Carrying case
I use my headphones for a multiple types of listening. Watching movies during travel is important to me, so I was very disappointed in the sound quality when watching movies. This might drop this set down to 4.5 stars, however I am not completely certain this is due to the headset themselves. There was a loss of overall quality along with distortion. I tried two different sources that have been reliable for testing movies, but I was surprised to see the loss of quality. I still would like to note that I'm not certain this is an inherent issue of the headphones. Lastly, the lack of an included (and matching) carrying case is a great set like this, from a very reputable brand, and at this price point should have a case. Aside from that, I highly recommend considering these headphones.

You can tell immediately when opening the box on these headphones that they must be nice. The design is simple, lightweight and they seem durable. Trying them on, I could tell immediately they were designed with comfort in mind along with a functional simple but elegant design. In terms of comfort, the ear cups fit nice and block out much of the outside sound without sweating your ears or making your head feel like it's in a clamp. In terms of durability they seem well built and are surprisingly super light compared to other similar headphones.
For sound quality, the bass is nice full and deep with accurate crisp highs. Most headphones, especially Bluetooth, don't hit the lows that these do or if they do they're not loud or distort or wash out the highs but these just sound great plain and simple. Turn them up and the sound is immersive and full. I was very impressed with how well these sound, again especially for being Bluetooth. Based on that alone, I would definitely recommend these if you're after good sound.
They did not come with a carry case/bag to hold them in but think that the trade-off of having a good quality pair of headphones is worth finding a case or bag for later. Outside of that the only other thing I would say could be improved more is announcing the battery level when they're turned on so you know if you need to charge or not. As for battery life, I was impressed here also where I was able to go all day without a need to recharge.
These headphones were designed with simplicity and sound quality at the focus of what they are, Despite shortcomings in other areas like the case or other little features they more than make up for in quality and design and I would recommend them to anyone looking for something with quality and good full sound with a simple design.

These are some of the best headphones that I own! I was impressed with the sound quality from right out of the box. After having them for almost a month, I decided to get the Beoplay App, which showed me a whole new side to these headphones! All I can say is that if you own a pair of bluetooth Bang & Olufsen headphones, or speakers, you are not getting the full experience until you get that app.

Would of been perfect if it wasn’t for the powering off feature which interferes with your phones smart assistant features. As you hold the button to power off it will also access your Siri. Sound is great, quality is great. Will recommend if anybody doesn’t mind the problem.

Love these headphones, incredible sound but I gave it to my husband because I need noise cancellation and these are excellent for music, better than Bose or Sony but no noise canceling so I purchased the Bose 700 which the sound is not as good but the noise cancelling is the best.

I love Bang & Olufsen audio. My 7-Series has factory installed Bang & Olufsen Audio and it just sounds amazing. The Power Amp and 12 speakers deliver the crisp sound of Studio music. The same level of sound is delivered by these H4 headphones and I just love it.

Wonderfully powerful headphones with simple controls. No aptx or noise cancelation, but hard to beat sound/style wise. Got Best Buy to price match and cut that 300 dollars in half. Best purchase I've made in a long time.

B&O PLAY by Bang & Olufsen - Beoplay H4 Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones - Black
I still remember years back, the first time I wandered into a Bang & Olufsen showroom. I thought, if A/V is going to truly succeed in homes, the B&O folks will be a major reason. They make beautiful products that people want to show off . . . and they’re still at it. These H-4 headphones are attractive in black on black, all of the contact areas are soft and rounded, with real leather or genuine metal. You won’t be fussing to make these comfortable because they are both light and soft on the ear. They operate with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which B&O says should last 19 hours after a 2.5 hour charge. Ergonomically they are easy set up, easy to use, and the controls are simple enough to operate while on the move. They are fast to connect by Bluetooth, and the pairing/power button are centered between multi-purpose buttons for volume and transport control. Three buttons just rear of center on the left earcup do it all. Period. Using them with a phone is easy and reliable. Included in the box are a micro USB port and 3.5mm wire for direct cable connection. Those ports are centered on the bottom side of the same left earcup, helping orient you to the location of the buttons. No carrying case. Ahem. The packaging is simple and attractive.
SUMMARY and OPINON: Can I suggest that there are no perfect headphones? In fact, it’s unlikely we would even agree on what “perfect” would sound like. I’d also like to offer some advice before I review these headphones. Go listen to these headphones for yourself. Would you send someone to pick out eyeglasses or sunglasses for you? My hearing is different, my anatomy is different. Spend extended time (maybe 30 minutes or more) with these headphones. Here’s what I heard:
I start my headphone and speaker testing with human voices because we’re very tuned to what voices should sound like and will recognize colorations readily. Because it was getting late when I unboxed these, I actually plugged them in to listen to late night TV where I could see as well as hear the stage activity. These headphones match my other favorite headphones with very nice range, great stage breadth, and they are pretty accurate. I perceived more activity in the bass (good) but also a bit of bass coloration that sneaks up into the voice range (not as desirable).
The next day I focused again on voices. So a series of female singers (Lady Gaga, Andra Day, Amy Winehouse, and Alison Krauss) all make it clear that the B&O handle highs, even bird whistles, and middle ranges with a very natural balance, taming sibilance (hissing sounds), and reaching well into the upper range . . . naturally. For me, female voices seemed to be a bit more edgy than I’m used to. Male voices (John Legend, Leonard Cohen, Tom Odell, and Gregory Porter) all are richly handled but with a some added heaviness, suggesting that the bass is strong but maybe a bit over-heated. This is usually easy to tame with tone controls. A wide range of music types reveal nothing unusual, nothing emphasized and nothing missing. These match my favorite headphones very closely except of the noted issues.
I prefer WHAT TO ME is more accurate reproduction and this headphone was a near miss . . . for me. Taken together with the feel, fit, and material quality, these are a desirable headphones. Go listen.

These headphones are ridiculously comfortable. Sometimes you get over the ear headphones that are too tight and become uncomfortable to wear after a while. No such issue with these. The padding and material are so soft and still provide a snug enough fit that they don't feel like they're going to fall off. Obviously this can vary for everyone, but I was very satisfied.
The sound quality was also very impressive, well balanced and very crisp and clear. Battery life is there. They promise up to 19 hours on one charge. I used them for a couple of hours at home and then at work all day and still going strong.
Overall these look very sleek, and I like the design. If I had one very small complaint, it would be the wires that stick out on either side. I know this is a style thing but for me it actually takes away from them. I feel like since they're wireless headphones, I don't want to see any wires. I want a very nice, clean look. However, that's not enough to detract from 5 stars on these. The rest of the design, along with sound quality, battery life, and comfort keep these at the 5 star mark. Very happy!

DISCLOSURE: In the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to let you know I received these headphones free from the manufacturer in exchange for an honest review. If you check my review history, you’ll see I’ve given negative reviews when warranted.
PACKAGING: I’m not sure how important retail packaging is to overall customer satisfaction, but B&O must feel it is because the retail box and everything in it is protected and presented in luxuriously cushioned, black velour. Very nice presentation, but probably not really necessary.
SETUP: First, I charged the headphone batteries for about five hours. Then, as suggested, I installed the BeoPlay app on my Android phone. When I paired it with the H4 headphones, the app told me there was a firmware update available for the headphones. Somewhere during the update process, the app displayed the following unhelpful error message, “Internal error (4-8) during update to firmware rev. 5.0.1”. I ended up having to force close the app and restart it. After that, everything seemed fine and I’m left to assume the update completed correctly.
It appears the sole purpose of the BeoPlay phone app is to handle firmware updates for the headphones. I found no other controls.
When you first turn on the H4 headphones, they automatically go into Bluetooth Pairing mode and will pair with any device that’s discoverable at that moment. So be ready. Unfortunately, the little Quick Start Guide that is included with the headphones doesn’t tell you how to later reinitiate Bluetooth pairings or how to make the H4 headphones “forget” previous Bluetooth pairings. Digging around on the Bang & Olufsen website turned up that information...you have to simultaneously press and hold the two volume +/- buttons.
OPERATION: In order for my wife and I to use two headphones when we watch TV, I direct the TV’s audio output into an MEE Audio Connect Universal Dual Bluetooth Wireless Audio Transmitter that allows us to simultaneously connect two wireless headphones. By the way, that is a great way to watch TV!
During our first evening watching TV, my new B&O H4 headphones lost their Bluetooth connection no less than a dozen times. At the same time my wife experienced no dropped connections using her other brand headphones. I sit about 10 feet away directly in front of the TV. That’s well within Bluetooth range and there are no obstructions between me and the audio transmitter. The disconnects occurred anywhere from 2 to 35 minutes apart. Yes, I timed them to see if there was a pattern and there wasn’t. I have no clue as to why this occurred.
Unfortunately, this was a very poor first impression of these new headphones. We have three other brand and styles of headphones that we use with this audio transmitter. They only lose connection if the wearer heads to the kitchen while forgetting to take them off.
So I tried again the next evening and only suffered three dropouts during another movie. Much better than the previous evening, but my wife still experienced no drops with her other brand headphones.
In all fairness, I also used these H4 headphones to watch online videos and listen to music for several hours on three different mobile devices without any dropouts. Of course, the distance between the H4 headphones on my head and the various tablets and phones I tried was at most maybe a few feet.
QUALITY: These headphones seem very well made. In fact, they even sport genuine leather coverings on the ear cushions. They look and feel like they’ll last a long time.
The sound is as great as you would expect from headphones in this price range. However, you can only control the volume as there are no other sound controls on the headphone.
I especially like that the inside of each ear cup is marked with a large L or R. There’s no mistaking which way to put these on.
DISLIKES: Other that the aggravating dropouts when connected to the audio transmitter, I only have two minor dislikes. The spring steel headband squeezes my head and ears a little too tight which quickly gets uncomfortable if you are wearing glasses. This might be because they’re new and could lessen as they get broken in.
The other dislike is more of a concern for potential long-term damage. There is a vintage-looking, cloth-wrapped wire bundle that loops out each end of the headband as they enter their respective ear cups. This is done to allow wire slack as each ear cup pivots. The wire loops stick out about an inch and a half and I’m worried they’ll catch on things and eventually be damaged.
RECOMMENDATION: Overall, I like these headphones. They’re not the best I’ve ever worn and they’re certainly not the worst. However, I can only recommend them with reservation because of the disconnections I experienced while watching TV. A dozen disconnects during one movie really takes the shine off the apple.
