They were priced incorrectly I found out later so I only paid 189 for them. I went to return them because I figured out they weren't the noise canceling ones I thought they were, I found out they were selling for 349. Wish I had held on to them. They are not worth 349

I was looking for lightweight and portable headphones that I could travel with on a plane as well as use in the house when I wanted to listen to music or stream TV shows and not be competing with background noises in the same space. I checked out several reviews of the product and they were all positive for the price, so I was in. A big plus for me was that it worked both wirelessly, connecting via Bluetooth, and in wired mode (a cord is included) – for use on an airplane. The Bluetooth capability is wonderful as it connects to all my devices (laptop, iPod, iPad, cell phone, etc). I charged it up when I took it out of the box and it is still going. It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery. The battery life is about 19 hours on a moderate volume…perfect for a long flight or round-trip commute without having to recharge. To pair the headphones with your device, turn them in with the middle button, then simultaneously press the volume up and down buttons for 5 seconds. The blue indicator light will blink while pairing, then turn a solid blue once successfully paired. (First time set up video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJeKT-bcRcI) One of the first things I look at is the directions/manual. There were the usual warnings in multiple languages, but the user guide consists of 6 pictures without any words. I guess that is the new way to avoid the cost of translating to other languages. Use universal pictures and hope people understand. Unfortunately, I got stuck in a few places, so I sought out answers on the Internet. Like many tech items today, there is an accompanying app. I watched a video detailing the app and how to use it on Youtube. The app provides you with the opportunity to personalize your listening experience with preset sound profiles along with some other tweaks. To update to the latest Beoplay software, you have to do it via the Beoplay App. The cable provided in the box is only for charging your headphones. I haven’t bothered to download it yet as I found the sound great as it is. The phones are super comfy and easy to adjust on your head. And when you remove them from your head, they lay comfortably around neck because the earphone part folds flat. I like the L/R to show how to put them on so they can fold flat. I don’t love the 3 touch buttons configuration for the controls as them seem too close together. The two outer buttons (volume up and down) are okay, but I can never tell which one is the middle button until running my hand over it several times. Plus, the middle button controls just about every function but pressing down multiple times (1x On/Off/PauseAnswer call/Hang up, 2x FWD, 3x Back). That isn’t consistent with other headphones I have and you know how difficult it is to teach an old dog new tricks. There is a quiet sound to signal when the phones turn on and off. They turn off automatically after a period of time they are not being used in order to conserve the battery. I knew when I got these that they were not noise canceling headphones. When I had the phones cranked, others in the room could hear my music. I didn’t hear them too much when they were talking or watching TV. I found the sound quality superb. The only negative side are there is no carrying case. The box they came in is fine to use around the house to keep them protected, but too big and bulky to use when traveling. I definitely give the Beoplay H4 two thumbs up!

Once you've made the leap into the wireless headphone market, there are quite a few qualities that will shape your experience: comfort and fit, easy of use, volume level and sound quality, minimal disruption, battery life... it can get a little overwhelming. Luckily, the Beoplay H4 from Bang & Olufsen checks all the boxes, providing a solid entry for audiophiles and casual consumers alike. Most notably, right out of the box these headphones are light as a feather, maybe the lightest I've ever felt for a bluetooth headset of this quality. It has a clean look with simple features - I like the design of the very minimal button placement - and once over your ears, the comfort stands out. There isn't any pinching or over-squeezing as the soft earpieces fit perfectly snug and the lightweight band sits overhead. Depending on how long you want to wear these things, it can't be overstated how important the fit is. I left them on for a couple of 3-hour sessions and had very little discomfort. This speaks to the solid battery life as well, with an advertised 19-hour use before needing a charge. You probably won't be wearing them for that long, but it's a nice perk. Once you get over the build and fit, simply pair to your device, connect and start listening. I had no problems finding the Beoplay H4 on my Android phone, and after that, navigating the little buttons to increase volume, scan through songs, or turn the headset off and on was super easy. The sound quality was amazing through various types of audio - music and podcasts were exceptional, and receiving phone calls was passable. Vocals and bass balanced very nicely at various volumes. While this is not a true noise-cancelation device, background noise was mostly minimal. And speaking of disruptions, putting my phone in my back pocket or leaving it charging by the wall and walking out the door to the end of my driveway did little to disrupt the sound quality. It was a pleasant surprise that I didn't experience much, if any, static or any disconnection that comes with some of my other headsets. The Beoplay H4 is my headset of choice. Its combination of reliability, comfort, and sound quality provides everything I could ask for in a pair of bluetooth headphones. Full disclosure, I was provided this product for my honest and unbiased review.

The Beoplay H4’s are perhaps a good contender for my “Studio” category, and for me add in wireless functionality to my current go-to headphone (side note, really wanted to refer to my go-to headphone as a daily driver, but thought the pun may be lost on some). As I’ve stated (verbatim) before, “a good pair of studio headphones are typically over-the-ear or on-ear; they have a great feel to them and put out some serious sound. These are the headphones you’ll use when binge-watching Dexter on your laptop or tablet, and while they might have a cord, they’re not an inconvenience.” The problem with this middle range of headphones, is that to be successful in the space, a product has to have so many features to be worth the look. B&O prices the H4’s at a retail price of $300, which puts it in the neighborhood of Bose’s QC35’s and some higher quality Sennheiser and Audio Technica. Bang and Olufsen is not marketing as heavily as Bose, though, so naturally I’d expect the price to be a bit lower. If I’m being 100% honest, the price tag is the first thing to make me think twice about these—they would need to put out some high quality sound to really be worth the cash. Out of the box, the H4’s came with enough charge to power the first week of periodic wireless use—this included heavier use the first day (approximately 3-4 hours), then varying use of wired and wireless over the next several days (approximately 8-10 hours total). And, while that’s not a great (or objective) battery test, B&O’s quoted 19 hours of battery life definitely seems plausible; to be honest, 8-10 hours should be plenty for most users, with more obviously being better. The unboxing experience itself was minimalist, the way it should be: sturdy packaging, limited stuffing (but enough to protect it), and very little time between unboxing and pairing. The lambskin ear cups are soft and well padded, and the metal headband is protected by a durable mesh on the bottom and (maybe real) lambskin across the top. The back side of the cups are plastic, with only 3 buttons on the right cup along with the micro-USB and 3.5mm audio ports; there is a small bit of exposed braided cable running from each cup to the band. The entire headphone is very light in the hands—nearly matching the Bose QC35’s 235g weight. And, from a quality perspective, I have the same sort of feeling about these as I do the QC35’s—they almost feel to light to be durable; that doesn’t mean they’re not durable, but only time will tell. Audio performance is a difficult thing to review; it’s hard on video and even harder through text. The H4’s allegedly deliver what B&O refers to their “Signature Sound,” intended to true-to-life and seemingly, not particularly heavy in lows, mids or highs unless the audio was intended that way; this is similar in many ways to how the QC35’s present audio, but I found the H4’s to present the lows much better than the QC35’s. Mids and highs are fine, and in general the actual audio experience with the H4’s is a very balanced one with a decent amount of bass representation. For additional reference, here are a few other products I use regularly and how they compare to the H4’s: * Sennheiser HD598SE - if it’s even fair to compare closed-back and open-back headphones, the H4’s have more defined lows and highs than the HD598SE, but the Sennheiser wins in sound stage and overall balance. They are cheaper, but don’t have bluetooth and again, are open-back headphones. * V-Moda Crossfade LP2 - H4’s have a more “real” and balanced sound, but can’t compete with the bass output of the LP2’s. LP2’s are cheaper, but again, no bluetooth. * Master & Dynamic MH30 - while the MH30’s are more “luxury” than the H4’s, the price tag is the same between the two. MH30’s win in lows, mids and highs, are more balanced, can out perform the bass of the H4’s, and have a more solid build. Again, though, no wireless for the MH30’s. So this in some ways puts the H4’s into a bit of a different perspective. Sure, the sound is overall very good, and the battery life is great, but great sound is possible for less money without wireless; with wireless and another $30, you can pick up Bose’s latest QC35’s (Series 2), or for less money grab the Series 1 and get a still great headphone. But, I’m not done yet; there are some additional things I noticed about the H4’s that could use an update on the next release. For starters—the provided 3.5mm cable is not braided. Yes, I know this doesn’t have any impact WHATSOEVER on performance—but it also doesn’t scream $300 headphones when I see a boring plastic cable. Braided cables are far more durable and look higher quality too, and while using these with a cable is secondary in most cases to using them wirelessly, it’s an incremental cost upgrade that would play well with a buyer in this price range. And, speaking of cables—this NEW product charges using Micro-USB, not USB Type C. Again, not a deal breaker, but as more and more phone and computer manufacturers are releasing product with type-C ports, the accessory producers should be keeping up. Charing via USB-C, even quick-charge capability—adding this to something with incredible battery life would be a win for everyone. There are 3 dedicated buttons on the headphones, most generally volume up, volume down and play/pause. As an iOS user, pressing and holding the play/pause triggers Siri, but with a longer hold powers down the headphones—so triggering Siri is a bit of a gamble if you don’t time it correctly. To put the device in pairing mode, you have to simultaneously hold the volume up and down buttons, which is a two-handed operation. And, the headphones can only be paired to one device at a time, meaning switching from phone to laptop to tablet is a bit of a to-do. With added bluetooth functionality and a dedicated bluetooth button, many of these things could have been avoided. And finally, B&O’s app. It’s a fine experience, but relatively basic and certainly not intended for someone who truly wants to customize their sound experience. It’s fine for a beginner, but including “advanced” tuning capabilities into the app might make it more attractive to users picky about how they hear their music. All things considered, I’m not entirely convinced that the H4’s are a real good buy for the money. They are EXTREMELY comfortable, perhaps more so than any other headphones I own. And they have phenomenal battery life, along with slightly better bass than the Bose QC35’s. But, without noise canceling, I would sooner recommend the QC35 Series 1 or a less marketed offering from Sennheiser, V-Moda or Audio Technica—in an effort to get similar performance at a smaller impact to your wallet.

Not much to not like about these headphones. They are super comfortable. The ear padding feels like it's not even there when you have them on your head. Sound reproduction is excellent. These are perfect for lounging, traveling, or even working out. Battery life is excellent as well. It advertises 19 hours. I used them for 3 hours, and let them run for another 8, and had no issues what so ever with battery life. What I don't like, and why I gave this 4/5 stars, is that the design on these leaves something to be desired. Yes i know they are only headphones, and there is not much too them, but I don't like how the headband piece gets skinny before connecting to the ear speaker pieces. To me it makes them look cheaper. I've tested the BOSE Quiet Comforts, and the SONY noise cancelling headphones, and to me, those are better constructed headphones. They cost a bit more, but are worth it. These too, are also recommended, and still achieve any technical audio production goals you have.

Excellent packaging, it's what I always see first and usually relates to the quality of the product. Right out of the box it's amazing how light weight these are, yet feel solid and well built. This alone sells me. They have a great look to them as well. Out of the box the battery was not charged, took a couple hours to charge. I own and have tried many headphones and love these. They are so comfortable and have a great feel. The sound and seal is awesome, does not matter that these aren't noise canceling. The ear cups swivel down so when you put them on your neck the sit well and not uncomfortable. My only gripe is the buttons, well mainly the power button that is also the pause, play, call button etc. sometimes doesn't always seem to work as requested. Making a call on these sounds great with no complaints. The dynamics of these speakers is amazing. Also download the app for extra features and updates. Great headphones overalll.

You can not go wrong with these B&O Play H4 wireless head phones. These are high end head phones made with premium durable materials, lambskin leather, aluminum & stainless steel. SO comfortable I could sleep in them, Although they have no noise canceling features, They fit so snug around your ear they do block out a lot of outside sound. And on to the sound super clear highs, good mids and powerful but not over powered bass. Make these head phones my favorite pair I has owned. Only thing I could ask for would be a carrying case. Some thing to protect my new prize gem.

I was not sure what to expect from these Beoplay H4’s going in. They come from a very respected brand. They have a price that was more entry-level for that brand. They have a look that, simply put, did nothing for me. That look seems comfortable. How do they sound? Another back and forth battle in my mind. Ultimately, while I do like these for several reasons, I find these headphones to be somewhat of a mixed bag. These headphones have a nice enough look, but for me, it is neither something I truly like, nor dislike, it is just, well, there. Honestly, however, this is not even much of an issue for me, as I am more concerned with build quality, how they wear, and of course, how they sound. When it comes to build quality, I am somewhat confused. B&O touts crafted lambskin leather, fabric and aluminum, which sounds great, but at their price, and their place in a very, very competitive space, they just feel somewhat cheap and uninspiring. Disappointingly, they picked up some minor scratches/marks after a couple of weeks of light and careful use. Here, the non-folding design as well as the lack of an included case or bag really rears its head. I found taking calls to be a poor experience. Audio quality was lacking and callers had trouble understanding me. As with the lack of a case, here, the lack of an included in-line remote cable hurts the user. These are accessories that simply could and should be provided. That said, none of this takes away from how comfortable they are to wear. They are extremely lightweight, do not feel tight on the head, and feel great against the ears. They are absolutely comfortable to wear. Such an important aspect of headphones. As far as sound, well, this is where it really gets interesting. Obviously, this is very subjective, and how one set of cans is tuned and what soundstage it has is neither right nor wrong, but it will determine how one feels about the sound they provide. The sound is “good,” but, for me at least, it is too artificial and uneven. There is just too much, and not clear enough, bass. Further, due to that, it seems the mids and highs are given more punch to sort of counter balance the entire sound. It just seems there is “too much,” when maybe there should just be…”better.” Do not get me wrong, for many, and probably most people, these are probably going to hit the mark. For people going around town, commuting…etc, and for those who enjoy lows, I can recommend these. However, those looking for a flat studio experience should probably look elsewhere. There are some other notable positives here. I found the battery life to be quite good, the connections to be quick and rock solid, and the button navigation easy to use. Further, while I did not fall in love with the soundstage, I did find the Beoplay app somewhat useful in customizing the sound more to my liking. Ultimately, B&O got a lot right here. Beyond that, I like that they offered a “lower” priced option in their stable of products, but, they are still quite expensive, and they are in a very crowded space. Depending on your preferences and your use case, they can be what you are looking for; but, given their few shortcomings and their lack of convenience (case, in-line cable), be sure to weigh your options carefully.

B&O PLAY by Bang & Olufsen - Beoplay H4 Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones - Black The history of the bluetooth protocol just has not allowed for real audiophile quality. But I think with the H4s I am going to have to make an exception. When I first started to listen to the H4s I was at work and soon forgot I had them on. I was enjoying the sound but work was to distracting for me to really focus on the sound like I wanted. Sorry to say that after about 4 hours my attention was about the comfort I wasn’t experiencing. The top of my head started hurting because of the small amount of padding on the top band. I had to shift to another part of my head to be comfortable again. But even before then I was thinking I must have big ears because for over the ear headphones my ears were always in contact with the ear pads. I think they are just a bit on the small size for me. But once I settled in with them I was getting very good sound isolation. I had to put them away for the last half of the day and then I put them back on at home. Well that’s when I really got to listen to them and I am very impressed. I loved the bass but it’s not dominating it’s just smooth and natural. In fact these headphone really do have a nice sound. I did all my listening with my Galaxy S8 where I can hold thousands of songs. Mostly I play FLAC files but I also play a lot of MP3s. Only on high volumes with the MP3 did I feel things got a little out of control with the bass getting muddled up. That was simple to fix by just dropping the volume down a little bit. Once the sound drew me in I really started to look at the headphone differently. First I still think the headband needs more padding but my only other big complaint is the buttons are hard to manage. It’s something you learn but I have other wireless headphone that have easier controls to find. However I can put up with a little character when the sound is this good. I did take some calls with them throughout the day and never had a complaint about how I sounded. Now that bluetooth headphone are coming from everywhere it is time for the industry to start putting out new bluetooth radios in their products. B&O has used the version 4.2 bluetooth here and my Samsung supports 5.0 which is a very good step up. If the B&O H4s can sound this good with the older protocols I would love to hear them on the very newest standard. With that out of the way why do these not come with a carry pouch or case. Wireless, portable it is just a major oversight to not include a case for something this nice. And the 3.5 aux cable and micro USB cables here are more than forgettable. Really for such nice quality materials used on the headphones the included accessories are a real letdown. There is an app for Android and IOS but these paired so easy and the Play Store rating just didn’t strike me as the app being necessary. Finally these are as nice a sound as I have heard from any bluetooth headphones. The build quality is easy best in class. The sound isolation here makes the need for dedicated noise cancellation unnecessary. If you're looking for excellent wireless bluetooth headphones do not over look what these have to offer. In the end it should be about the sound and comfort. I have been wearing these for hours at a time and I would still like a bit more padding on the top. But I have to recommend these even with the few minor flaws they have.

The perfect combination of minimalistic and luxury headphones. When it comes to headphones there seems to be 3 aspects I look for which include: appearance, comfort, and sound. These headphones encompass all of those in my opinion. The physical appearance of headphones today is important as they are more than just there for function, but are treated as an accessory to what we wear. These headphones are great when it comes to this as they are very professional looking and built of high-quality materials that definitely give off that sense of luxury headphones. The comfort of these headphones is definitely exceptional. They are very light which is important to me personally as if I am wearing a pair of headphones for an extended period of time I hate when they feel cumbersome. The earcups fit perfectly and are extremely comfortable. Then finally the sound quality is where these personally sold it for me as some of the best headphones on the market for this price range. Today, headphones seem to be pushing this sense of bass boost and these headphones fortunately do not go this route and instead emit music perfectly in all aspects. Bass is still there, but it is not so overpowering as it seems to be with so many other headphones on the market. Overall, these headphones are exceptional. The only negative aspect I could possibly say is that a carrying case would have been nice or if the headphones folded completely that would have been nice for travel. Aside from these two aspects though I really could not see any negatives regarding these headphones and in this price range I would definitely choose these.
