Great as a new approach fighter,HAVE TO BE PSPLUS

Nice artwork. Cool concept as this non traditional stylized fighter has you go 5 on 5 in very open layout battle realms. Downside, YOU HAVE TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER, HAVE TO PLAY ONLINE, AND TO DO THAT HAVE TO BE A PSPLUS MEMBER. Upside PS Plus I'd a fantastic deal, one whole YEAR is same price as the green and black console nut jobs charge for one MONTH. Plus the discounts you literally pay for itself with 1 single free full game download costing everyone else $20, and going month by month at $9.99 you can't actually lose money. Hop on over while here on bestbuy.com or in store and pick up a 1, 3, or 12 month membership card to accompany this $5.50 clearance game. This 3 stars, as just reviewing this game, $15 to play it for a month is MEH. But gamble on this title on sale now at BestBuy.com and you can come back and click HELPFUL on this review after a screening. Great game, bad timing

    |
    Posted .

I'll begin this by stating the following: Prior to Battleborn, I had, in my long gaming career, never bothered with a MOBA or similarly styled game. Going in, wasn't sure what to expect: the game's reviews were good, but let's face it- MOBAs aren't known for the most accepting of communities. So, why did I buy? Because of two things: 1) the price had dropped considerably, thanks to it competing, (unfairly) with Overwatch, released almost on top of each other. Between the price drop, a sale price, my Gamers Club discount, and Reward Zone certificates, it came to a total of $7 for me that day. Not a huge loss if I discovered I disliked the MOBA genre. 2) Unlike Overwatch, and most MOBAs, Battleborn came with a single player campaign. Had the multiplayer been a bad experience, I'd hoped to get enough play out of the campaign to cover the cost. I can say the following; Battleborn is a victim of the Overwatch juggernaut. While they're two completely different game styles, the bulk of the public sees them both as first person competitive shooters featuring over the top characters. It's a shame, too, as I hope Battleborn doesn't end up the way of Evolve, not because of lack of interest, but due to mediocre marketing, public misunderstanding, and, as a result, not enough players. The fact is, at current sale prices, Battleborn is worth every penny, even if multiplayer is something you rarely indulge in. I hesitate to say to buy it only for single player, but even if you never played a single multiplayer match, if you have a "collector mindset," you probably would get your money's worth. The campaign is actually very well done, long enough, and filled with the laugh out loud moments that Gearbox (Best identified by their Borderlands series of games,) is known for. Beyond that, as mentioned, the game can really hook you with trying to unlock characters, costumes, gear, and more- and it's spaced out in a way that feeds you just enough to keep pushing forward. Multiplayer can vary from full out competitive modes to private matches, and if the campaign isn't enough to keep you playing for unlocks, the multiplayer will. This has been a great year for multiplayer-centric shooting styled games, but unfortunately, Battleborn, much like another on that list, Titanfall 2, is underplayed largely due to there only being so many hours in a day and people having to choose between it and a powerhouse with a larger player base. (In the case of Titanfall 2, it was released practically alongside Battlefield 1). In both these cases, Titanfall 2 and Battleborn were largely loved by critics, it just came down to logistics of the release timing. I'd urge anyone and everyone, regardless of whether they own Overwatch or Battlefield 1, to give both Battleborn and Titanfall 2 the opportunity they deserve and add them to your library, then add them to your weekly gaming rotation. Both are new properties to PlayStation, and both are labor of love new IPs that need to be kept so they don't end up as "good ideas that didn't stick". Both of these games have come down in price at Best Buy, and both together can be had for the cost of one new game- and they'll quickly grab your attention.

    Fun if you like FPS

    |
    Posted .

There is a huge debate between this game and several other FPS games out there. I personally loved this game and its variety of heros. They have unique personalities and lore which can affect minor aspects of the missions such as dialog. While this game is made by the Borderlands team it is not a Borderlands game. It has a similar feel because of the art style and introduction of bosses and mini bosses. The characters range in the best game mode to play them. By which I mean some characters in PVP are not as good as others. Some characters while damage dealers do not do as much damage as others or burst damage against other players but can eliminate minions easier. Main game modes: Story: A episodic adventure that is chosen before the match. Unless you play a custom game there is a voting system, so if you need one specific map you may not receive it. PVP: 3 different mode types: Capture the flag / base. Siege, against large bosses. Escort / Destroy match.

    Very fun and colorful game

Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed.

This game can be confusing at times, but it is fun. It is also difficult if you haven't upgraded your characters. If you like to be challenged, then this is a game to try out.

A really fun first person MOBA

    |
    Posted .

A really fun first person MOBA. Matches are a bit longer (30-45 min depending on the map and team skill level) compared to more action-y straight up shooters like Overwatch. Its nice when you can sit down and play for that long, but it makes it a bit difficult to fit in a quick session if you've only got a limited amount of time to play. I don't like that you have to unlock new characters. None of them cost money but you have to either complete challenges or grind for "Command Levels" before you can start using them. Not surprisingly some of the most fun to play and/or most powerful are initially locked. I haven't played much PVP because it feels weirdly balanced. You have to break off from objectives and helping your team in order to track down AI mobs who give you bonus xp to level up your character. Its odd that in a PVP match PVE mobs would reward more XP than killing players or capturing objectives. Honestly, the PVP game is where this game has the most room for improvement.

Review Based on Closed Technical Test

    Posted .

NOTE: As part of the closed technical test, I can review only the parts that were available at time of the test. Story mode - Story mode was exciting. It has some of the standards when it comes to bosses. You get the boss' health down to 75% and he leaves sending in more minions, then you go find him. They will do this multiple times before being able to finish him off. The ability to purchase in-game "mercs", drones only so far, is nice, as they will point you to minions that seem to be lost and also have enough fire power to have your back. The in-game turret purchases are nice as well and very useful. I really enjoyed the sarcastic ramblings ISIC Reported Feature in Story mode - The fact that I can start Story mode as one character, and change as often as I like without having to start over with the new character is a very interesting twist. Multiplayer - MELTDOWN type - I like the mix of FPS (First Person Shooter) and MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game mechanics. It puts a nice twist on the normal PvP Capture the Flag, Domination, and Free-for-All. Meltdown was the only Multiplayer type we got in this test. Overall - The new Helix system, which allows you to build your character in-game depending on the needs of the situation, is a great way to test different build-outs to see what works best for you. Along with the Helix system for in-game building, there are gear load-outs for pregame configurations that can be used in game to do everything from buffing your character and buffing other teammates to Nerfing your opponents and dropping a grenade upon dying. Summary - Story mode was fun. Multiplayer has some great twists and will be a majority of my game play. The new in-game character building is probably my favorite aspect of the game. I like what they have done with game. It will be take up many hours of my future.

    MOBA Meets Overwatch

    |
    Posted .

I know that it is a bit unfair to compare this to Overwatch as they are technically different genres, but there is a component of Battleborn that is a hero shooter. However, all of this is done in the context of an overarching MOBA. Honestly the game is fun, though now it has gone essentially free to play, making a purchase less ideal. What it gets you is the full roster permanently. It is disappointing that you need to always be online in order to enjoy this game though. One day I know that the servers will get shut down and this game will no longer be playable. I think it's a fun game, and you should try it for free before you buy it.

    Great Battle game

I was really excited for this game but now that I have it there are some big flaws. First flaw is there isn't much of a story mode/missions. The second flaw is its gets really repetitive quickly. Now some positives, one would be the game play is really good even thought its a different art style its still beautifully made. Now the other positive for this game there are a lot of different character to choose from. Once you keep leveling your character up you even get more unlock-able abilities. The PVP part of the game is decent or i would say normal. It can be fun but its to bland. I would recommend the game because its something thats fun for awhile. Also its a good game to play if your waiting for another game to come out its passes the time along.

    Awesome Co-op and Multiplayer

    |
    Posted .

Battleborn is a ton of fun to play! It has a great variety of characters and the campaign is super entertaining, even more fun when you play it co-op. I love that it has split screen co-op, not too many games doing that nowadays. The graphics while cartoony, are very appropriate for this title with it's humorous undertone. The multiplayer is also fantastic and will give you more then your moneys worth in replayability. I bought Battleborn with my Gamers Club unlocked so I got it for only $48 which is a steal for a new game! My son and I are loving it and I highly recommend it to anyone on the fence.

Fun for people who like character mechanics

    |
    Posted .

A lot of reviews are conflicted, but I'm enjoying this game. There is a lot of content! It is not about numbers of maps though - it is about the many different characters you can play that change up the experience. It is also about the many different ways you can play each character. Play cooperatively, against others or even go it alone. I'm changing up my playstyle every time because I still haven't unlocked all the many characters. But for me, each character is a fresh breath of air to try. I'm unlocking new ones at a constant pace and trying them and all of them so far I want to go back and play again. I started to build a list in my head of which ones might work better in certain situations - and I can't wait to try them out. I also trust Gearbox to continue supporting this game and can't wait to see what they have in store next.

    Good but not great . . .

    |
    Posted .

Being a huge Borderlands fan, this game was a must for me. The graphics are great, the voice acting is excellent (and hilarious!), and the combat is exciting. There are a lot of similarities between the Borderlands series and this game. The one major flaw that I feel is very evident, is in the lack of Looting. That is what was so great about Borderlands and really drove me to the series - being able to pick up an enemy's weapon and continually upgrade your arsenal and equipment. There are skill trees called the Codex that allow you too upgrade to a certain degree. But for the most part, your weapon is always the same. To me that loses its luster. Still an entertaining game and I believe it would be more-so, with a couple friends. If I were to do it again though, I would rent it instead of purchasing.

A tremendous band of badass heroes fight to protect the universe's very last star from a mysterious evil in this next-gen shooter by the creators of Borderlands. To defend it, you'll need to utilize every type of character and weapon you've ever imagined -- from cyborg hawkmen to samurai vampires to mini-gun wielding man-mountains. Slash and parry, run and gun, cast and dash, or simply obliterate foes all while building and growing your personal team of heroes. Choose your hero and fight alone or co-operatively alongside friends in story missions, or battle against them in fast-paced competitive multiplayer matches

    Fun Game

    |
    Posted .

I've only played the single-player campaign mode so far but the game is probably at it's best with multi-player. It is nothing like COD or Battlefield except that it is a first person shooter and you need to progress to the next level by eliminating the enemy. The graphics are bright and the action is smooth with the characters and enviroments looking very much like Borderlands but not as cartoony. It's a nice departure from the overly-complicated games with basic level-ups for the weapons and makes for some good mindless FPS action. The game is inexpensive and a good addition to any FPS fan's collection.

Good multiplayer but limited player base

    |
    Posted .

Battleborn could be a great game depending on what you're looking for in it. There's the multiplayer RPG game part and a fun but limited single player there too. The characters are really really cool and very different from one another. Battleborn also has a unique look as well. Very Borderlands-ish art style. Just know that yes, these are the same folks that made Borderlands but don't expect it to be anything at all like it. There is some pretty good humor tho. Bought this for crazy cheap and if you can do the same, I would recommend checking it out for yourself, ya might have fun with it.

    A bit of a warning...

    |
    Posted .

I bought this for my 12 year old to play. Normally, he understands that video games have violence and that it's not real by any means. He knows the difference between real and computer-simulated things. That being said, my complaint is with the language used during parts of the game. Sure, they hear it from their friends at school, but I was just a bit surprised to hear it coming from their game as well. But, that's what you get when you buy a game rated like this one was. More my fault, than a bad rap to the game designers themselves.

    Great Game

    |
    Posted .

I had been on the fence about this game for a while pre-launch, but after playing the open beta, I pre-ordered shortly after. The online matches can last up to a half hour, so if you don't want a game that may take long, you might want to pass on this one. Also, once one team gets the advantage, it's quite challenging to gain control over them, which is good and bad. The character leveling can take a long time as well, match wins don't seem to yield much in the way of character XP. Overall it's a great game and one I'd recommend, just be prepared to invest time and dedication, especially if you're wanting to compete all the Trophies/Achievements.

    Very underrated!

Borderlands fans will love Battleborn. It has that same humor and charm but still has a identity of its own. Has a beautiful cartoon like art style and if you have a ps4 pro Its one of the better looking games around. Game is designed to be played co op like strikes in destiny, with long and varied missions. Still fun to play solo but better with a friend. Multiplayer is almost moba like with a wide variety of cool characters. Enjoyable game that can be got at a cheap price.

A decent game, shoved aside by competition

    |
    Posted .

Battleborn has been unfortunately overlooked this year. The game has a colorful and varied cast of characters with interesting personalities and background, as well as an entertaining and challenging coop campaign. While the main advertiser draw seems to be the multiplayer, the player base is admittedly lacking, but tight knit. It's a shame other games overshadowed this one this year, because I've found it to be much more enjoyable than I'd been led to believe based on it's reception.

Decent game but not as good as Borderlands series

    |
    Posted .

This game to be honest takes a bit of time to get into it. At first honestly you really might even hate the game. It's really simple and straight forward however at the same time very complex. The reason I say that is because there are so many characters that it is hard to figure out each one. But once you play a couple of different characters and you get to know a few PVP and PVE becomes quite fun. Definitely not the best game ever especially when compared to the Borderlands series but still worth a play through.
