    Great Everyday Use

I use this to warm up an electric bed, which I prefer before I go in it. I used to leave it on all day or forget to turn it off. Now I can schedule when it comes on/off. It was easy to setup and access your home wifi network. The App is easy to use and you can see the device status. Wish wemo wasn't as bulky, monitor electric usage from app, also the led status light a bit bigger. Overall I would recommend this and am considering buying another for the living room.

    Works...some of the time.

I've been using Wemo switches for a couple of years now. I've been trying to automate my house. I bought this to use in conjunction with my Amazon Echo (i have several around the house). The problem is, it works about 50% of the time. I find myself having an argument with Alexa for about five minutes every night trying to get her to shut off lights. This is clearly a problem with the API and/or the Wemo app itself. Most of the time the devices "are not responding." Often when I open the Wemo app it takes a long time for all of the devices to register. I recently bought several Philips Hue bulbs (also at Best Buy) and those work incredibly well. They always go on and off when asked. So now i'm considering taking out all of the Wemo switches and just putting Hue bulbs in all of the lamps in the house. A very expensive switch to say the least. (Pun intended)

Great gadget but not without roblems

if you're looking to switch something on and off remotely - such as a lamp - to give that added element of security when away from home, the Wemo is great. Timer rules can be set so it switches on at, or around, sunset (it recognises its location and therefore the daily sunset and sunrise times) and go off either at, or around, sunrise, or at a time of your choosing. It can also be switched on and off remotely via the phone app. Brilliant. One flaw, however, is that if you have to reset your modem for any reason, it appears to lose contact with it. The wemo continues to work independently, but can require a reset to re-sync it with the modem. Resetting, while theoretically simple, can prove a bit of a hassle and require several attempts. That said, it is a minor irritation in comparison to the huge benefits the Wemo switch can bring. I intend to buy more as and when required.

    Quick setup, simple Alexa integration

    |
    Posted .

I purchased an Amazon Echo as a Christmas present for my wife, and figured that I should purchase some "smart home" devices to augment that gift. In all honesty, I didn't know much about the various options available, and needed to do some research. Obviously, the Phillips Hue line is a big name in smart home illumination, but I was drawn to the Belkin WeMo products because they would quickly integrate with my existing lighting. Being simply an additional component between the outlet and anything you would plug into it, it seems that there is more inherent flexibility in the application of the technology. Another benefit of the WeMo system is that, while most other ecosystems require an additional "hub" device, these do not - they are simply connected to your WiFi router directly. This meant they would be comparatively inexpensive to get up and running. Setup is relatively painless, requiring a WiFi router, and a smartphone capable of installing the Belkin WeMo app. Once you've installed the app, you have to connect directly to the adhoc WiFi connection created by the switch device when you press the single button on top. This will first pair the device directly with your phone and register it in the WeMo app. You then have to connect to your home WiFi router to finalize the connection between the device and your router. The scant directions on the box do not make this clear, but you can find a video on YouTube that will walk you through the process. You also may have to turn off an option (at least in Android) that automatically switches to your data connection when wireless is unavailable, as that can interfere with this process. Once your device is fully paired, you can name it something descriptive - say "living room lamp" - for easier identification in the WeMo app. This also comes in handy when integrating voice commands via Alexa. We initially connected our Christmas tree to one of the switches, which we naturally named "Christmas tree" in the app, and a display of light-up houses to the other one, nicknamed "Christmas Village". To enable voice commands, you can open the Alexa app on your smartphone, open the menu and select "Smart Home", then select "discover devices" at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, just say "Alexa, discover new devices" and it should find and integrate with your WeMo devices (as well as any other "smart home" devices you may have). If you modify the name of a device, as was the case when we removed the Christmas tree from our home and replaced it with a floor lamp, you will have to do this discovery again before it will recognize the new name via voice command. After you've done this, you will be able to say "Alexa, turn on {device name}" (in our initial configuration, we could say "Alexa, turn on the Christmas tree" and "Alexa, turn on the Christmas Village" and it would succeed every time). In conclusion, if you are looking for a quick and inexpensive way to get in on the Smart Home craze, the Belkin WeMo Smart Switch is a great introductory device which will definitely augment the usefulness of a voice command system such as Amazon Echo. We've only had these for two weeks or so at this point, so time will tell how long they last, but the Belkin name gives me confidence, as I've had quite a few of their products in the past and have not been disappointed, including our current WiFi router. The fact that you do not need an additional hub device (other than your router) is a huge benefit.

    Convenient

I bought this wifi switch particularly for my air conditioner window unit in my apartment. It's been about 100 degrees all summer and waiting until I got home to turn my ac on was taking too long to cool off before going to sleep. With this I can turn it on about an hour or two before I get home with my phone and it's nice and cool when I walk in the door. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there has been a few times I have turned it off after I've left the house with the app and when I went to turn it back on at night before returning home found out that it's been running all day even though the light had shown it was turned off after clicking the button. So you have to make sure and double check the app again at some point during the day to be sure that it has really turned off. Other than that it has been a very convenient product.

I have a few of these around the house and they work quite well, not perfect. Pros: -Setup and updating firmware is easy. -Works flawlessly when online. Cons: - Why is this device so big? -The iDevice app has quirks requiring constant refreshing. -WiFi range is a little less that most devices in the same area.

    Works Beautifully

This thing is great. It took maybe two minutes to set up and get working, including the time it took to download and install the app on my phone. It worked right away without any problems. Even after switching outlets, it only took about a minute for it to "boot up" again, but all the settings were saved so once it was booted up again, it was working just as before. This is a great intro product for anyone interested in beginning home automation. I've only had lamps plugged into the unit, so I don't know how well it works with other things like fans, or coffee pots, but if it works as well as it does for my lights, then it's definitely worth every penny. The only complaint that I have is that I'm not able to dim my lights that are plugged into this unit. I wish it had a power control that would allow that, but that's my only complaint. I now have set it up on a timer to turn on my bedroom lights at the same time my alarm goes off. It works perfectly. My alarm goes off, and within two seconds, my bedroom lights are on. This is the ultimate product for lazy people; i.e. me. :-)

Great Device! Makes me feel safe!

I love my Belkin Wemo Switch. It honestly is one of the best things I bought. Easy Installation and Added Security The device was easy to install only took about 7 minutes to setup. The devices show as their own wireless connection, but after installing the app the wifi name of the devices disappears. This is a great because it then prevents anyone from "logging on" to the Wemo's devices and controlling them. Give access to another electronic device I live with a roommate, and I wanted to make sure they also had access to shutoff and turn on the device using the app. At first, I was apprehensive as some reviews said it couldn't be done. However, after you download the app, it was really easy. Away from home control The best function of this device is that you can literally be anywhere in the world and turn on and off your wemo device. You can do it manually or you can even set schedules of when you want it turned on and off. It's a lifesaver because sometimes I forget to turn off the lamp downstairs, but with Wemo I can be in bed already and just turn them off with my app. Connect to a Surge Protector You can connect a surge protector to it and power on multiple devices. You just gotta make sure you keep the power button on from the protector. Other Pros: Easy to Switch Locations Can Give Each Device a Name and Picture on the App Con: Takes up a good amount of space, but its totally worth it. If internet is out, you won't be able to turn the device on or off --> BUT You can push the button on the device to turn it on and off manually.

    No hassle, straight forward outlet

Great outlet. This is the first gen version outlet. Great if you turn something on and off frequently. I have mine connected to the 32,000btu air conditioner. Outlet holds 15A. Convenient for me on the hot summer days when I'm not home and I want to turn my AC on an hour before I get home. Also helps me check to see if I forgot to turn off the air. Helps save $$$ in the summer. Version 2 of this outlet doesn't have a power button and you must use the mobile app to turn on and off. Also, version 2 is the same size as an iPhone wall charger. Version 2 will keep track of wattage used by whatever you have plugged into it and it will show you on your app. This version 1 is larger but it does have that important power button for me. If you don't need the button, get version 2.

Great Product That Is Easy To Use

    |
    Posted .

This WeMo switch is so easy to use! You plug it in, connect it to your WiFi, plug your product into the switch, and then set up your WeMo app. From there, you can control whatever is plugged into this switch from anywhere in the world. Plus, you can set timers and it's also compatible with Echo so you can control this switch with your voice if you so choose. Another great feature of this switch is that it doesn't require a separate hub that eats up precious space on your WiFi router. The hub is built into the switch. Very convenient! The WeMo app is very easy to use and it's where you have full control of all your WeMo devices. It's straightforward and easy to configure as you add new products. I have Philips lights as well, and while I love their stuff, their app is not user friendly and is hard to configure and reconfigure. Overall I am extremely happy with all my WeMo products from these switches, to my Insight switches, and to my light bulbs. I plan on adding a camera as well. My one issue with Belkin, and it's a small one, is their initial set up. The instructions and timing on the WiFi pairing is confusing but easy to get around. I think some are turned off by this simple set back. Belkin is very responsive in wanting to help but it never came down to that for me. Past the set up, adding new WeMo devices is so simple. I really appreciate that, especially after adding new Philips lights and how difficult I found it. Again, the initial WeMo set up is not difficult, it's just awkward and still a breeze as compared to Philips. I really like the connected home products from Belkin and I'm really amazed at the convenience they give me and equally amazed at what I can do that I couldn't do before.

    Smart and simple

    |
    Posted .

I was looking for a smart electrical outlet to connect to my Google Home for my Christmas tree but didn't really feel like dropping over $100 on Samsung's Smart Things kit so I went with this entry level one by Belkin. My use was pretty basic, turn on my Christmas tree using voice command or at certain times during the day. Setup was simple, just plug it into an outlet (not a strip) then connect it to your WiFi network using the Wemo app. Once you're connected you can turn on/off any device plugged into it using your phone. Since Google Home didn't support Wemo, I had to use IFTTT to be able to control the switch using voice commands. I was successful in doing so but found for my purpose of just turning the tree lights on and off it wasn't necessary so I used the app and set the switch to turn on at sunset and turn off at sunrise. Now you might be wondering why not just buy a timer. Well I'm ultimately going to make my home a smart one so this is a future investment. At around $30 it's not that much more than a digital timer plus you can control it using your phone. And once I find more uses for it then I'll be able to use it to its full potential. For now it did what I needed it to do...Light up my Christmas tree. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    Works well but is huge.

The Wemo switch was easy to set up. It works well. I haven't had any connection issues like others have experienced. It integrated with my Echo Dot with no issues. There are two things that I don't like about it: 1) The unit is HUGE! I can only plug it into the top outlet. If I want to plug it into the bottom outlet, the unit will cover the top outlet. You may ask: then why don't you just plug it into the top outlet? Well, on some of my outlets, the top outlet is controlled by a wall switch. I want to leave that free to control room lighting. Belkin's solution was to redesign the unit which makes it smaller and can be plugged into the bottom outlet without covering up the top outlet. I kind of wish I waited on purchasing four of the old units. 2) Issue 2 has to do with the Android app. It works well except when creating rules. For some reason, I can rename some of the rules, but not others. Weird. Even though I don't like how big the unit is, I will still recommend buying this if you aren't concerned about this issue.

I am using two of these units to turn on two separate space heaters before we get to the house. They work great and are very stable. My only complaint is that since we have the space heaters in two separate houses, you have to use two different smart phones to control them. The software will not allow you to control devices at more than one location with the one phone. So to make it work, one switch is controlled from my phone and the other from my wife's. Maybe no big thing but inconvenient.

Only as good as your WiFi is

    |
    Posted .

Using these outlet plugs was my solution to avoiding fishing electrical wire for switches. I wanted over cabinet lighting, so I plug the rope light in to these units and they work on timers or manually through my iPhone6. 2 problems: If your wifi is not strong, these units will not respond sometimes... meaning, you may want to turn them off, but the app on the phone will not register the units. Luckily there is a button on the unit that you press to turn them on/off if this happens. Second problem: The app is not user friendly... it took me a long time to set up the first two units. And a bit to figure out the timer functions. I hope that they update the app software to make it more user friendly.

I got this programmed to turn on and off when I'm not home (i.e. @ work or on vacation) saving me money. ..it's great this can be programmed to turn on @ sunrise or scheduled times. The setup is a bit annoying and occasionally requires pulling up the manual to reference the single led diode. ...wish there was a few more indicating status. Also I have multiple homes and trying to use/setup multiple wemo's is maddening. But I still love it's capabilities and how it saves me money. ...highly recommend despite it's flaws.

    simple control for lamp

    |
    Posted .

While I can use the ipad app to control the wemo - much easier to pair it with an Amazon Echo. I choose to buy 2 of the WeMo basic switches to control 2 lamps in the living room... the 'tall' lamp and the 'small' lamp. After installing ipad app, connecting them 1 at a time, updating the firmware, and then naming them - I was set. Since we have the Amazon Echo as well, I asked Alexa to 'discover my devices' - to which she took about 30 seconds to discover both. Now I can just say "Alexa turn on the tall lamp" - without having to open the iPad - yup it's that lazy simple. I did have a router needs reboot situation -- and after that I did have to rediscover 1x after a wifi network reboot, but that too was 30 seconds -- after I confirmed that both WeMo switches were back online. Haven't create any 'scenes' where I can turn BOTH on or off at once... sure to try that later this month. With the success of the plug in switch, I have been looking at WeMo Light Switches, but the WeMo version doesn't have dimming capacity --- yet. Once it does handle dimming, I would consider swapping out the key ones. (kitchen, entryway, bedroom, hallway) -- so come on Belkin - add the dimming and keep the easy Automation coming.

    Good but finicky

    Posted .

I've started to replace some outlet and light switches around the house to give it a more lived in look when we're not around. I'm not looking for complete automation like a Z Wave system so the Wemo system works perfectly. Installation was easy for both the outlet plug and wall switch if you're comfortable with simple home wiring. The finicky part was getting the app to talk to the switches to get them set up the first time and get the firmware updated. There was more than a few resets and reloading of the app but once I got it set up it works nicely. What seemed to help is not rushing the set up and just let the app churn for a while.

I bought this product as a gift for my parents. It would allow them to turn on their heated mattress cover using their cell phone while they were out (or at my house); so, when they arrived home, they would have a warm bed to crawl into. Well, the switch on their mattress pad is a push button that doesn't remain in the on position - meaning, this product doesn't work for them. I brought back to my house to try on our mattress pad which has an on switch - it worked. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to get it to forget my parents' connection information. Belkin didn't offer any directions on this (not using my parents' connection), it was trial and error on my part. Now, I have a warm bed and have to get them a different gift. I thought this would be great to start my crock-pot; unfortunately, it has the same type of push button on switch as my parents' mattress pad. Definitely determine what type of appliance you will be using this for and find out if the switch will stay in the on position.
