It did heat up ice water in a reasonable amount of time. I used that just to test it out, deciding whether to keep. For parties and to keep small amounts of food warm, it would be fine. There did not seem to be much difference between the low or medium setting, hot wasn't ever bubbling hot.

Must Have For Gatherings!

Each crock pot has its own setting so I didn't have to worry about overcooking one of the dishes. I have used this multiple times; graduation party, birthday party, and family get-togethers. The holder for the lid is great because it is out of the way and you know exactly where it is! The notch in each crock pot allows for you to rest your ladle or serving fork without it sliding down. Definite buy! Worth every penny!
