When I first plugged the slicer in and turned it on, the motor ran but the slicer didn't move and seemed to be jammed. I took it apart and found the plastic motor mounts broken and the motor had fallen sideways in the case pulling the drive gear out of the housing. The mounts were tall enough I was able to drill the screw holes a little deeper and fix everything back into place with longer screws. I put the case back together and it seemed to be working until I tried to cut a piece of meat. The wheel the carriage rides on is too small tilting the carriage too far so the top of the backstop hit the cutting blade. Didn't anyone at the factory try to use one before putting it in to production? I cut an 1/8" thick strip of wood for the wheel to ride on in order to tilt the carriage far enough away from the blade.
After all that, the slicer works really well on both meat and cheese. Though it's so light it slides around on the counter while you're using it. It is easy to clean. I'll have to find a strip of plastic as a spacer for the wheel since wood doesn't wash up very well.
Things get broken during shipping, I accept that. But maybe the important parts not being made from plastic would help? There is far more plastic on this than there is stainless steel. The carriage wheel is just plain poor engineering. I'll keep it, but I'm glad I got it on sale.

I have been very pleased with this slicer. It's not the most powerful but it gets the job done. My favorite is slicing London Broil for sandwiches. Clean up is pretty easy. It also does a great job on cabbage, lettuce tomatoes. Because there is clean up involved I do all my slicing at the same time. Save a lot of money on cold cuts.

First off, i got this item on sale for $30. If you paid the full price, your rating would likely be lower. The major flaw for this machine is the guide not precise enough for consistent or thin cuts. There is too much play in it. I added a small plastic "knob" with sticky tape on the guide so that it holds the meat more consistently in one place. This allowed for more consistent, thinner cuts. Also, the cutting blade is serrated instead of a smooth blade which makes thinner, smooth cuts harder but for the price but isn't a deal killer. If you are getting this as an entry level slicer to use on leftovers, i think you'll be happy. If you've ever used a pro version of a slicer, it will drive you a little crazy but it's doable. My wife and daughter use it for making fresh potatoe chips with a thin bit of oil in a pan and holy .... are they delicious!
