It should last a few years. If you are constantly plugging it into multiple computers daily, I recommend getting a docking station otherwise, you will wear down the plastic spring clip.

Theres not really any way to make a better cord than another manufacturer other than to claim its made of better materials. Cant go wrong with this cord.
