||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The adapter works (allowing you to connect to your router via ethernet); but, the speed I achieve is nowhere near as fast as when I connect via either ethernet cable alone or via WiFI. This allegedly supports 1 Gbps throughput; but, I'm not getting anywhere near that speed with my laptop connected to this adapter. I tried the device connected to both a USB 3.0 port and (with an adapter) to a USB-C port on my Windows 11 based laptop. When I ran Speedtest, I was getting (at best) 100 megabytes per second throughput for both uploads and downloads regardless of which type of USB port I used. Connected via WiFi to my router (admittedly right next to my laptop)I was getting better than 300 megabytes per second throughput. I was also getting better than 300 megabytes per second throughput for my desktop Windows 10 based PC connected directly via ethernet cable to my router. Since I assume a wired connection is more secure (and less prone to interference from other devices) than a WiFi connection, I'll probably still keep it with my laptop. Just be aware of its limitations.

Wireless is OK for most uses, but many business applications require the stability, speed, and privacy of Gigabit ethernet. The Best Buy adapter is a much better value than similar products delivering top performance at a reasonable price.
