I found this to be too complicated. There were too many options and the pads lost their stick quickly. I’ve paid a lot less for one that worked better and was more user friendly. I wish I would have returned it before time ran out.

After going through a few rounds of physical and occupational therapy over the last two years, I have wanted to pick up a good TENS machine. Well, enter the Beurer EM 59 Digital TENS/EMS Device to my rescue. Not only does this help with pain relief, but it does so much more. Upon opening the box, I was very impressed with how everything was packaged as well as what was included. It includes the device, 4 electrodes, a belt clip, a power cable, and a guide. After reviewing several other options, the Beurer EM 59 Digital TENS/EMS Device was a better option than most because of its portability and the fact that it was rechargeable. Too many other options were plug-in only or required actual batteries. The first thing the instructions tell you is to charge it for a minimum of 4 hours. Since then, I have gotten a full week of use with some juice left in the tank. I am thoroughly impressed. My first voyage was working on some shoulder tension. I was able to combine the TENS option along with the heat to take care of the pain for some much needed relief. After that, I transitioned to using the TENS on some persistent elbow tendonitis. This was one of the main issues that led me to physical/occupational therapy. Yes, that was a very large, medical grade machine, but I felt the Beurer EM 59 Digital TENS/EMS Device held its own and gave me the much needed relief that I required. I was extremely happy to get that same type of comfort at home. Later in the week, I was able to check out one of the 64 different EMS pre-programmed applications. I performed a session on my quads with #19 to tone the thigh muscles. It was an interesting feeling at first, but then the cycle started to feel more comfortable as it progressed. I look forward to instituting this more into my regiment and with other muscle groups that I am working on. This was a new experience that I didn’t know much about, but I am glad I have this to help. It’s definitely an added bonus to all of the TENS desires/needs that I have. All in all, I think Beurer EM 59 Digital TENS/EMS Device would be a great addition to anyone looking for pain relief or an added kick to their workout regiment. The only little knock that I have is the heating element. I would like a little more heat in there, but that is also a personal preference. It’s not awful. I just prefer more. Outside of that, I love the screen and the ease of use of the device. The length of the cable to the electrodes is certainly good and I’ve already professed my pleasure with the battery life. I am glad I have one and I know others will be happy once they have it as well.

    Physical Therapy at Home!

My first experience with TENS therapy was after a work injury in 2009. I got injured at work and had bursitis in my left shoulder. A large part of my physical therapy was TENS. It was the best part of treatment. Their device had one repetitive stimulation and went to 10. I was always left wishing that it could go higher, but I always left there feeling great. The pain was gone. However, all of these years later I still occasionally have flare ups where my shoulder will start hurting again. The Beurer 3-in-1 TENS/Heat device has 50 programs to choose from! There are 15 TENS and 35 EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) programs. TENS is used for pain and EMS is used more for muscle strengthening and relaxing. Both the TENS and EMS have three programs each that are customizable. The customization allows you to change both the impulse frequency and impulse width. I haven't used custom programs as the numerous standard programs work fine for me. The manual that comes with it goes into detail about each program and has a page with pictures to guide you in positioning the electrodes. It comes with four gel pads for placing on the electrodes. You can order more from customer service as they will wear out eventually. However, the book says item number: 646.11. When I search that on the website I get 161 results. I finally found them and their item number is actually 64655. Just search for that and it will take you right to them. I don't see an option to buy them, so you may have to call customer service since this is a newer item. The Beurer TENS device has a lot of intensity levels. Each channel (two electrodes) are independently controllable. This is for perfect because a lot of times I prefer one set of electrodes to be at a higher level than the other. The ability to add heat is great. It helps to relax the muscles further. The programs run for 30 minutes. You just place the electrodes where you need them, pick your program, and set your intensity levels. I will say that the Beurer has way more levels that what I used in physical therapy and it can go much higher than I am able to stand. At level 10 it is intense enough that it tightens the muscles in my shoulder and pulls my head down to the side. Based on the scale, it looks like 10 is about 1/4 of the way to max. The size of the device is very compact and it has a belt clip so that you can use it while moving around and not have to carry it. Overall, it has been great. The only thing that I would change about it is to be able to turn off the beep when pressing buttons. After a few minutes at one intensity level I like to increase it a little. 2 presses of the up button for each channel is 4 beeps. It's annoying when you're watching TV and I hate doing it because I know it aggravates my wife. Also, it needs a case. They give you a belt clip so that you can take it on the go, but what do you do when you're not using it? You need to keep the cables from being pinched, so you shouldn't just throw it in a drawer. For now I'm just keeping it on my end table in the box that it came in. Those are my only complaints. As far as using it, it's perfect!

This is a great portable device for TENS therapy. I have used it for my shoulder pain and it has worked really well. It also has a heat function which I liked even though the intensity of heat is not that much. The device is designed very well. The most commonly used functions i.e. program selection and intensity selection have dedicated buttons on the top. The display is very good. There are 12 programs in TENS and 32 in EMS. There are also 3 memory slots available for your own customized settings. Overall, the level of customization is great. The device can be charged using USB-C. This is again a nice feature as more and more devices are USB-C compatible now. The battery life is good. I was able to get 4 full, 30 minute sessions without a recharge. Overall, I am really happy with this unit. It is a good value for money.

A few years back I went to a chiropractor due to some back pain and he put a TENS device on my back to help relieve the pain...and it worked great. When I saw this portable device I really wanted to give it a shot, even though I was a little skeptical whether it would be the same quality as the large device at the chiropractor. This one is a small handheld device that can be charged with a standard USB-C charger. However, when I got it setup and tried it out, it worked just as well as the version the chiropractor used. The setup is relatively easy, but the directions for putting the adhesive pad to the ends wasn't the greatest. It would have been nice if they showed a better picture of how it should be put on since the picture they had showed it on the wrong part of the terminal. The instructions weren't straight-forward either since it just says to put on the adhesive (not where to put it on). Lastly, it doesn't tell you to keep the little plastic sheet the adhesive comes between so you can keep it from sticking to everything else after you use it. Luckily I had seen how they worked it at the chiro so I kept it (maybe it is self-evident, but probably better to let people know you will still need it so they don't throw it away). In terms of usage, you identify where to place the terminals based upon pictures in the instructions. If you have lower back pain, line up the two white terminals above one another where you have pain and then do the same with the black terminals. The instruction book also provides the program you should select for each muscle group. Once you have that entered, start at the lowest setting and slowly raise the power level. I slowly increased from the lowest setting to 15, but then I ramped it back down to 12-13 since it got a little painful when I moved it a little higher. I couldn't tell you what the highest setting would be, but it didn't look like I was much over 25% on the scale. The most important question was whether it worked or not. Before I started using it, I had some soreness in the back so I decided to try it there. I used it for three days in a row and definitely could feel some relief after each session. My wife also tried it and I was surprised when she said that she was going to try it on her shoulders after she did it on her back. She used it multiple times over the next couple of days and thought it helped relieve the soreness. This one also has an EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) setting. I found it to be a little more jarring than the TENS. The documentation says it is to stimulate muscle growth. Hard to say in a couple of days if it really stimulates growth, but I will still leverage this for the TENS. Overall, I would recommend this TENS/EMS device for general relief from muscle soreness. It has worked for both my wife and me. Easy to use and worked well to relieve soreness and increase mobility of the sore area.

My wife suffers from chronic pain and I have lower back issues. We have use many different TENS units over the years for therapy and pain relief but this one from Beurer has to be the best one yet. First, the rechargeable battery is a welcome change from those using standard alkaline or removeable rechargeable batteries which require a separate charging solution. Just plug this guy in and the onboard charger does the rest. We have been able to get multiple sessions out of a single charge which is something none of our previous units have been able to accomplish. It has a multitude of built-in functions that are designed to give the most relief to specific target areas. While it has the ability for you to program your own routines into it, I haven't needed to do so yet as the factory settings have worked well for our needs. The heat function (which can be used in conjunction with or independently of the TENS shocks) is a welcome addition and something I haven't seen in this category previously. It is a gentle and soothing heat that really seems to amplify the pain relief capabilities. Having two different channels that can be controlled independently means you can hit two pain areas at the same time which is also a nice feature.

I've been experiencing back pain from sitting at my desk all day and shoulder soreness from working out. As soon as I saw this product available I just had to try it out. I've used TENS devices before at physical therapy when I tore my ACL and needed to regain muscle in my atrophied quad and this device is very similar to what physical therapists are using on their patients. I tried it on my sore shoulders and aching back one time and it made a world of difference immediately. The heat function relaxed my muscles and after 30 minutes of my selected TENS program, I was feeling GOOD! My back pain and soreness are gone in the area that I targeted. I also used the EMS feature to engage my muscles and promote growth and there is definitely a difference especially considering my muscles recover faster and I'm able to workout for longer periods of time. This device may seem complicated to use at first but with a little bit of reading I got dialed into what was needed in order for me to benefit the most out of the TENS features and the EMS features. The programs are all very detailed in the booklet it comes with and the screen is very helpful in suggesting where the electrodes should be placed for your selected program. I have everyone in my family asking to borrow this device now to alleviate their pain. This is a fantastic product and I would recommend to anyone experiencing muscle pain throughout their body! This is definitely a game changer.

this is the first TENS unit I’ve seen that also incorporated heat so i was excited to try it. The unit itself is rechargeable via USB and has a wide range of programming to target different muscle groups. You can do both restorative and stimulation programs with or without heat. One note about this unit is that i found it extremely difficult to find the replacement contact pads from Beurer in the US and had to order them from Germany. There may be a substitute/generic that works but due to the heat function it wasn’t clear if i could just use another item. I’d like to see Best Buy have the replacement pads as part of carrying this device to make it easier for customers to replace theirs once they are no longer sticky.

Cons: Too many features which I will never use, and the pads do not last as long as promised. The replacement pads are very expensive and, apparently, can only be ordered through the company. My last TENS machine had pads that lasted much longer, were much less expensive, and far easier to find. Pros: the unit does work well and I do love the heat feature. All-in-all, it’s a decent product but far too expensive for what I need. Would not order it again.

I really like this unit. I've used a regular tens unit before and had decent luck with it. But this device offers tens, ems and heat. The ems is a whole new experience for tired and sore muscles. It takes a bit of getting used to and finding the electrode position that works best for the afflicted area. Once you do though, this machine offers so many options to work out the area. It can be really intense so it's best to start slow and see what you can handle. The heat function is super nice too so I don't have to get out a heating pad after using it. I've recommended this to several people that work physical jobs as I think they'd really benefit from this as well. If you're looking for a tens unit, this is a great option as you're not as limited in the function or body part usage. My only complaint is the sticky part of the electrode doesn't seem to last super long but that may be more to do with skin type.

My wife suffers from migraines and often times, her neck and upper back will hurt at the same time. When a migraine hits, we attach this to her upper back and neck area and it helps to relieve the symptoms a bit and making the migraine more tolerable, if that is possible. The heat setting is an awesome addition and provides a bit more comfort with two settings, low or high. There are four electrodes that you can attach to various areas of your body to help you recover more quickly either from exercise or an injury. I’ve used them on my lower back and the back of my legs after doing yard work and it has provided tremendous relief. It has a ton of programs already setup and also allows you to customize your own depending on your needs. Changing the settings of intensity is easy as well. It’s rechargeable with a USB-C connection to a USB adapter or on your computer. Takes about 4 hours to charge completely. The only thing I’ll need to pick up are some extra gel pads as I’m sure the ones that come with the unit won’t last too long with multiple users. The muscle and nerve stimulation isn’t something I’ve looked into in the past but I’m glad I’ve started doing it. Whether to recover from something or just aid in relaxation, I’d recommend this to anyone.

This 3-in1- TENS/ Heat Device retails around $110 usd. I've been using this device for 2 weeks now and I do have to say that this is the real deal. I have several achy muscle areas due to a couple of injuries endured during my time playing collegiate sports. This machine has given me relief that I haven't felt in years. Out of the box you get: -TENS/ Heat Device -4 Electrodes -4 reusable Gel pads -Charging Cable -Instruction Manual A charger is not included so you'll have to provide one. Some of the features that I really like are: -Heat function -Electrode positioning indicator -Rechargeable battery -Adjustable intensity -2 heat levels: low and high -64 pre-programmed applications -6 customizable programs: frequency, pulse width, on/off time programmable -Countdown timer -Safety switch-off -USB C charge port I didn't experience anything bad with this device and I do recommend this if you are looking to get muscle relief. I do recommend that you follow all the directions, positioning of the electrode pads, and safety notes mentioned in the manual. I wouldn't recommend using this on the chest because its pretty close to the heart.

I love that it targets certain areas and can switch between Muscle and nerves. my complaints are that there is nothing to store it in? even a bag would have been nice, anything?? second, the sticky part leaves a ton of residue every time I use it.

With a *plethora* of modes and settings this thing is quite amazing for the package it's in. It's *very* portable and does exactly what my doctor's unit did, but without the co-pay! ;) Things lacking: 1) The display shows only generic placement of pads which means you will *always* need the manual by your side to see exact placement for what you want to do/target. 2) The manual/materials provide no reference for where to buy more gel pads and no indication of how many uses you can expect to get out of the pads nor how to know when you need to replace the gel. I've used it a half-dozen times but have no idea when/where I'm supposed to get more of these. Additionally, there's little guidance in how to store the pads when you're done - I've been putting one of the blue covers that came on the gel between two pads and sticking them together for storage. Hope that is ok! It's worth saying the strength of this thing is bananas. I've only gone to 11 out of what appears to be a possible max strength of 25-30 based on the indicators on-screen and, when I did, it was almost unbearable! I've also only used the EMS function, not TENS, so I can't speak to if/how effective that is.

The pads didn’t really stick well. The alternating patterns of current were a nice mix up from a simple tens. Although some of the patterns were a bit pinchy so I feel like you had to set sequence lower or get a surprise pinch. The heat was a relaxing feature but not noticeable enough to be therapeutic.

I have used various TENS machines over the years but this one is so nice because of all the preprogrammed functions. The display lets you select the area you want to address and provides general locations to put the pads. Once on you select the intensity and if you want to have heat. It's that simple. Once the cycle it completed the unit will shut off. In my previous units it used AA batteries and this unit is rechargeable. I have been getting about three sessions with heat on each charge. It does charge pretty quick with the USB-C cable which is included. Great device to reduce or remove muscle tension.

I have chronic lower back pain as well as a lot of neck pain from TMJ that causes me to need pain medicine and ice packs frequently. I've wanted to try a tens unit for awhile to see if it would be beneficial for my pain. This unit is a great option because it also includes the heating option that some other brands don't. This unit is very easy to set up and use and has an extensive manual inside for guidance on how to use. I really like that this one is rechargeable and eliminates the need for batteries, there is also a USB-C cord included. So far, this has been great for my lower back pain and is very convenient.
