First impressions:
The Beurer BM50 Talking Blood Pressure Monitor is easy and convenient to use. Setup, operation, and proper usage are clearly defined in the user’s guide both in word and in drawings. The LCD screen is bright, the readings are displayed in large font, and the device dictates the readings loud and clear. The arm cuff can accommodate from 8.7 inches to 16.5 inches round which should accommodate your average adult. Finally, this unit has two memory banks allowing you and a partner to use a single device to independently track your readings.
Setup:
The unit does not ship with an AC power adapter. You will need to purchase this separately from Beurer. The BM50 does ship with four AA batteries. I have not owned the unit long enough to report how many readings I can take before replacing the batteries. The air hose is built into the sleeve. Plug the air hose into the side of the unit and then insert the batteries. The unit powers on and is immediately ready for use. I had the BM50 taking my blood pressure within minutes of taking it out of the box.
Operation:
Be sure to read and follow all the instructions in the manual before use. Otherwise, you will not use your new blood pressure monitor to full affect. The BM50 can track up to 100 individual tests per person. It can track a total of two people. The BM50 can display the average of your measurements over the last seven days, the last seven AM measurements, and the last seven PM measurements. You can access individual readings by repeatedly pressing the M button. The BM50 does not have any external data connections so it is not possible to upload your data to any kind of data tracking app. It would have been nice to have an electronic log for tracking, trending, and note taking.
The cuff is designed for single hand, possibly hand and chin, setup. Have a friend or family member assist you if you have any issues securing the cuff. I had to go with the hand and chin method the first few times until I got comfortable securing the cuff with a single hand.
Initiating a measurement is straight forward. Press any button on the BM50 to turn it on. You will know it is on because the device audibly announces, “The device is ready for use. You may start measuring.” Press the + or – buttons to choose user memory 1 or 2. Press the power button again to start the measurement. You will hear the mini-air compressor kick on, the cuff will tighten, and then the unit will start taking your systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and heart rate. The until will then audibly announce your measurements once the reading is complete. The unit will also tell you your risk level based on W.H.O. guidelines. The risk indicator is represented by a light bar on the left side of the LCD screen. It is color coded green, yellow, orange, and red. A light on this bar will light up to indicate your risk level. The LCD screen places an indicator next to the light to reinforce the risk level reading. Beurer did everything they could to reduce misinterpreting your risk level.
Finally, the LCD lights up with a bright blue backlight. The readings are displayed in black. The font is large and easy to read for anyone who has less than perfect eyesight. My wife has terrible eyesight and was still able to read the LCD display. The BM50 will speak your numbers to you regardless of the quality of your eyesight.
Experience:
My overall experience with the BM50 was positive. For me, if the cuff was not properly fitted then the cuff would pinch during inflation. I also felt the cuff got a little tight when compared to other blood pressure monitoring devices I have used. You can abort the measurement and deflate the cuff by pressing the power button.
My wife’s experience with the BM50 was not so good. We tried to measure her blood pressure several times over the course of three days. The BM50 reflated the cuff three times during each session and always ended with an E2 error, “You speak or move during measurement.” In fact, she did not move or speak during any session. My wife’s arms are larger than mine but not large enough to fall outside of the cuff’s pre-marked tolerances. I tried taking a measurement on both arms. I used another blood pressure device from another manufacturer to rule her are and position out as culprits. I was able to successfully measure her blood pressure with a single cuff compression under the same conditions as the BM50. So, either I am not using the BM50 correctly with my wife or there is something else going on. The controls on the BM50 are so simple that there is nothing to check other than the batteries, the hose, and the cuff. All appeared to be in perfect order. To verify, I took another reading on myself with zero issues.
I noticed that the BM50 will try to recover from an error condition by first increasing the pressure in the cuff a total of two times. This lengthens the amount of time your arm is under compression. Each reinflation increases the pressure over the max pressure of the last inflation activity. Both my wife and teenager errored out and experienced what I would consider above normal compression.
Conclusion:
This is a very easy to use blood pressure machine when it works. I really do like a lot of the features. Unfortunately, it’s usefulness is limited for my household.
The LCD screen is bright, clear, and easy to read. The audio is great for anyone with poor eyesight. The audio can also be turned up or off depending on the situation or need. The cuff is relatively easy to position by yourself. Though, as I said earlier, if your dexterity is less than ideal then you may want a friend or family member to help you out. Having access to the last 100 records including seven-day averages for all readings, AM readings, and PM readings. I would have liked a feature to export the data for tracking and trending purposes. The BM50 does not ship with an AC adapter. I find this strange but not a deal breaker.
Inconsistent operational success between users is surprising to me. It is great when it works. But it only works for me. As such, I cannot recommend this product.
I hope you found this review helpful. Thank you.

Takes too long to measure

I'm not a healthcare professional not I have any blood pressure problems, however I do get my regular checkups at my doctor and trying to compare this device to what doctor's office uses.
First impression - while it works - it takes way to long to measure - on average about 50 seconds and sometimes even longer. My arm starts to feel numb while using this device and I can't wait to take it off. In addition to that - sometimes it will start pumping back up in the middle of the measurement cycle or it will randomly give error 2 (You are talking or moving) or irregular heart rhythm indication. Not a pleasant experience at all.
Device is powered by 4 AA batteries which are easy to replace and alternatively can be powered by the external AC adapter (not included), however instructions say to remove the batteries before using the AC power. Talking function is definitely a plus for elderly who might have troubles seeing the screen. It also has 2 person memory and can store up to 100 measurements which allows you to track your results.
Overall - it works, but I would look for something more reliable and not that painful to use.

Accurate Home Monitor

So we got this to help monitor blood pressure at home without having to make an extra trip to the grocery store or doctor. The unit is powered by 4 AA batteries (not included), it comes with a travel case as well. I like being able to fold it up and store it in the case when not in use, so I appreciate that they include this with the item.
The unit is super easy to use. Simply install the batteries and the unit will turn on by itself. The arm cuff has pictures on it so you know which way it is supposed to go on your arm. Once you have the unit power don, and the cuff in place you push the large center button on the unit to begin the measurement. The cuff filled up nicely and was not too tight. The first measurement I got an error but I was talking to my spouse during the measurement and possibly moving my arm a little. So we re-did the measurement a second time and it worked really well. I had just recently had a BP test and these results were in line with what I was expecting. The voice announcement is a nice feature, and there are lights on the left to let you know visually the zone you are in.
You can set the unit for two individuals and keep a record of your measurements.
Overall this will work really well for us and help us monitor BP weekly as needed between dr visits.

Good features, but hard to use...

This blood pressure monitor has nice features and seems well built, but the cuff is hard to position, it is slower than other monitors I have used and has more errors.
Pros
- Includes case and batteries.
- Useful voice prompts tell you when it is ready and read out results.
- Compares results to World Health Organization Standards via voice and color indicators.
- Can detect abnormal heart beat.
- Memory that stores 100 readings for 2 users with date/time info and can tell you the average.
- Screen is back lit and results are large enough to easily see without glasses.
Things to Consider
- I tried this with 3 other people and I was the only one who did not have errors using the machine. The cuff has very strong Velcro and slips down on your arm easily - making it hard to position. It also squeezes your arm very tightly multiple times before giving an error.
- I don't agree with its approach to low readings - it labels everything below 120 as optimal, despite low pressure being as much an immediate concern as high.
- Compared to other machines it probably takes around 10-15 seconds longer to read (when there is not an error).
- The power button is right on the front and there is no hard on/off switch to prevent activating it when in the case. You could take out the batteries, but then you have to reset the time which is like setting an old VCR (+/- Year, +/- Month, +/- Day, +/- Hour, +/- Minute).

Beurer BM50 is the third blood pressure monitor I've owned. I was particularly intrigued by its claim of 'engineered in Germany* for accuracy of measurements and features'. So far, I'm very pleased with this device (*made in China).
It's fairly easy to set up, although I had a couple trials-and-errors with the initial date/time setup. I also erroneously tried to plug the air tube connector to the AC adaptor jack (it's taped with a sticker, so I should've known not to remove it) but the actual usage is simple and easy. It'll save you time and grief if you read the manual first.
Unlike the other reviewers, neither my husband nor I encountered any error messages after using it for over two weeks (a couple times a week). Our readings seem accurate, comparing to the readings from our recent doctors' visits.
The two-user setup is pretty standard and 100 stored records should be more than enough between the two of us. I was not a fan of the voice of the talking feature, so disabled the audio. The display is large and bright, so it's easy to read.
I wish it came with an AC adaptor, instead of using (enclosed) 4 AA batteries. Also the carrying case should be bigger to be able to store the device and the cuff more effortlessly.
However, I am pleased overall with Beurer BM50 and I'd recommend it.

This Beurer BM50 blood pressure monitor is very easy to use.
Put on the arm sleeve. Adjust it so it is not too tight.
Insert the sleeve tube into the left side of the monitor housing.
Push the round silver button.
The monitor starts whirring and the sleeve will inflate
The digital display will show the 2 blood pressure readings and voice will also announce it out loud.
Easy to use and easily recommended to anyone with bp issues.
The unit is a German brand and manufactured in China. It includes 4 AA alkaline batteries in the box.

Pleasant Voice, has two memory tracks for users, Most importantly, it has smart arrythmia and inflation or reading error modes that make it easy for a nonmedical person to use.Beurer is a top brand and I am glad I was able to pick one up at Best Buy.... so much better than similar priced machines in the pharmacies...

Solid Blood Pressure Monitor

Overall
So first and foremost, my only real experience with blood pressure monitors is being checked up in a routine visit at the doctors along with the stationary model at big box retailers. I’ve never felt a need to own one or use one frequently as I’ve never been diagnosed with a bad reading. That said, my mom will take readings whenever I’m over along with the aforementioned dr screenings.
With that out of the way, I compared quality with what I’m used to at the doctor visits. The cuff seems well built with a study grip for readings. In my few days of ownership I’ve only had the dreaded E3 error once. All other readings have returned similar results. My mom on the other hand, has come back with the E3 readings several times. At this point I’m not sure if it’s due to body type or user error but I tend to believe the latter option as older users may not be as savvy with technology as younger generations.
Usage is pretty straightforward. Strap the arm cuff, plug in, select user profile (there’s 2), press the big button to start. Once it completes the reading it will verbally tell you the results if you’ve chosen for it to speak. It wont speak if you turn down the volume or disabled the language. It retains a pretty lengthy amount of readings. In my case, I can see a total of 8 and it hasn’t begun erasing the last entries to add more.
There is only 1 thing I’d nitpick with this unit. The cuff reads “not made with natural rubber latex”. However, nowhere in the description can I see this mentioned. Since this is intended for users with allergic to latex, I’m unsure as to why they would omit that.

Then Beurer BM50 is a battery operated blood pressure cuff. The BM50 allows the owner to add two profiles to track their blood pressure and heart rate. The screen is backlite and provides systolic, diastolic and pulse. There is a voice playback to tell you the BP and pulse. For some reason the voice is in a British accent.
This is a good quality device that provides accuate home blood pressure readings.

Purchased for the good price, but got disappointed with the quality. The screen takes up all the battery energy, and even new batteries don't last for a couple of readings. On top of that, a very loud voice reads the numbers for you, which I found to be an annoying feature. Had to return the product.
