Berd Nerds! Endorsed by the Audubon Society- camera is great. Their species recognition isn’t the best. You can watch birds from all over the world. Very fun! I have the solar setup and I haven’t had to charge the camera at all. It’s a bit expensive and the app needs work. Naming your bird feature also needs work. Best app out there ATM.

Great concept, amazing photos and videos. But the fill reservoir is hard to clean as it doesn't pop apart. And I'm so far disappointed with the solar charger- still have to charge the battery every few weeks. Expensive for what it does, but I don't regret buying it on sale.

A Fun Way to Feed Your Fast Feathered Friends

Bird feeders are a great way to attract your feathered friends to your home. Smart bird feeders like this one will also photograph and identify each visiting bird which makes it just that much more fun. This Smart Hummingbird feeder takes everything that is great about their original smart bird feeder and customizes it for nectar-eating hummingbirds. Highlights: * Easy to set up * Easy to fill with nectar without removing from mount * Solar roof maintains charge well * App is fun and easy to use * Battery lasts a long time even with overcast skies Room for Improvement: * Not easy to tell when nectar is low * Cannot tell in the app if the battery is charging from the solar roof * Details of the connected feeder(s) would be nice on the home screen of the app * Regular bird feeder housing is not available for purchase (yet?) Setup: Setup couldn’t be easier! The solar roof is pre-installed so essentially there are just 3 parts to assemble: the smart camera module which is the “brains” of the kit, the base that holds the nectar (food) and the main housing. As with most devices that have a battery, the first thing to do is plug the camera module in to give it a full charge before setting it up. Once things are all set up, you can let the solar roof maintain that charge, but for now, it’s easiest to do a full charge via the supplied cable and your own USB-C power adapter. Remove the pre-installed rubber port cover on the top of the camera module and plug it in to charge. Save that port cover just in case you ever want to swap this camera module into a different housing that doesn’t have a solar roof. Several spares come in the box but it’s always good to have more than one just in case. Once charged, download and install the free app on your phone. Follow the easy steps to create your new account, pair your camera module to the app, configure it to work on your home’s WiFi, and install any available updates. This whole process took me about 30 minutes to get it set up, online and ready to go. Now it’s time to insert the camera module in the main housing. There’s a short USB-C plug that comes from the top of the housing inside the recess where the camera fits. Plug in the cable from the solar roof and fully slide the camera into that recess. It will be magnetically held in there. Since this feeder has the solar roof, you shouldn’t need to remove the camera from the housing again. It’s waterproof enough to last through some serious weather but anything more serious (like a hurricane) might warrant just bringing the whole bird feeder inside until the weather subsides. Next is adding the hummingbird food (aka nectar) to the reservoir. When removed from the housing, the filler opening is large and easy to pour the food into. I made my own nectar by following the basic recipe listed in the manual (1.5 cups of tap water and 6 tablespoons of unprocessed sugar). Once filled, just align that opening with the base of the housing and give it a slight twist to lock in place. Just be careful to not spill anything when moving your feeder around. There are three (3) feeding spots on the base. Each spot can either have a “flower” with a hole for the birds to eat from, or a “plug” to cover that hole up. A few plugs come in box so you can swap out feeding spots as you like. It is recommended to leave the center one open and plug the outer two so that birds (at least initially) feed from the center of the perch for better camera framing. The last step of setup is to mount the feeder outside so that you can metaphorically hang the “Open” sign and welcome birds to your new Smart Feeder. I bought a shepherds hook from my local hardware store and set up things in my front garden. It’s recommend that you aim the camera at something picturesque so the background of your photos is attractive. It is also recommended to not aim the camera at things that you don’t want in your photos, like a neighbor’s yard, your bedroom window, etc…. You never know when the camera will take a picture of a visiting Hummingbird and the background of that photo should be something you like as well. Another thing to keep in mind when placing your feeder is to ensure that it gets enough sun exposure to keep the solar panel charging. You can always check the app to ensure the camera has enough charge, but just be sure to not mount the feeder under a bushy tree or a roof overhang that will shade the solar panel. Usage: While there’s a lot you can do in the app, this smart Hummingbird feeder will basically run on its own; taking photos of your winged visitors and charging from the sun. All you have to do is keep the food reservoir full and clean. There is an optional subscription available, but there’s a lot the app can offer even without paying for a subscription. When you first set up the feeder with a new account, you might be offered a discount on an annual premium subscription as I was. Without the subscription, your feeder still identifies birds automatically, takes photos and videos when a visitor stops by, and more. As of the time of this review, the premium subscription also allows for higher-resolution photos and videos, the ability to view remote feeders from around the world, unlimited cloud storage, and more. If you opted for the premium subscription, you can browse other smart feeders from around the world that have been made available for sharing while you’re waiting for some birds to come for a treat. I found some feeders in Norway and Slovenia that I can follow in addition to my own. You can view photo “postcards” or video clips from your’s or other feeders and see birds from around the world. In the app, you can check the battery level and wifi status of your feeder, but only deep in the settings menu. It would be nice to show both on the “Live” view as well as on the “Home” screen. What the app doesn’t show is whether the feeder’s battery is being charged by the solar panel. After setup, you can verify if the solar panel is working properly by checking the battery level in the morning and again in the evening to see how the charge level is doing. If your evening charge level is still good, then your feeder probably got some solar charge during the day. The one thing you do need to check periodically is the food level. The app doesn’t have a way to check the nectar level, so the only way to know if the nectar is low is to go out to the feeder and check visually. With their original smart bird feeder, you can see the seed level from a distance pretty clearly. With this Hummingbird feeder, the liquid nectar is in the base which is translucent red. You might be able to see the nectar level through the base if you’re up close, but otherwise you’ll have to unlock the base from the housing, remove it and just check the level inside. You can set up the app to share a push notification when a bird is detected by the camera. You can also just browse the app to see all photos and videos taken. Some of the interesting optional features that the premium subscription offers are the ability to have the camera identify and notify when a “pest” like a cat bothers your feeder so you can perhaps consider moving it. It also has the option to give a particular bird a name and then notify you when that same bird comes back. As with all new bird feeders, it can take days or weeks for birds to find and become comfortable visiting your newly installed feeder. In the few days since I’ve set up mine, I have yet to see a hummingbird stop by, but I’m sure it’ll happen soon. In the meantime, I can still check out a few feeders from around the world (with my paid subscription) and marvel at the birds that visit those shared feeders. Bird Buddy currently offers three styles of Smart Bird feeder; this one that is designed specifically for Hummingbirds, one that is more of a smart birdbath, and their original model that is designed for most other birds. The smart camera module included with each full kit is universal and can be swapped into the housing of any other their other models to save on the investment of buying multiple kits each with their own camera modules on the assumption that you don’t want multiple feeders operating at the same time. They offer the Hummingbird feeder without a camera, but as of the time of this review, they don’t yet offer the regular bird feeder or bird bath housings without a camera. If you’re sure you want to feed Hummingbirds, get this model. If you’re unsure, you can instead get the regular model and add the optional Hummingbird housing. Then just move the camera module to whichever feeder you want to use. Overall: If you’re curious about the winged friends near your home and are interested in adding a bird feeder to attract them, this Smart Hummingbird feeder is easy and fun to use. Set it up and then just keep the nectar full. Any visitors will be automatically recorded and you’ll be notified.

I was skeptical at first with this bird feeder working. But....... I will get to that in a bit. Setup was super easy. I unpacked. Plugged in and let it charge up. Download the app. I downloaded from Play Store. Setup an account. Followed the step by step instructions including WiFi info and I was in. I picked a spot that was in the open and had good sunlight to keep the camera charged. I filled the reservoir sugar water and I waited. I waited.... And waited..... And waited...... I had to wait about 1 week and was getting impatient thus my skepticism. Then I got a notification that I had a bird visit... Holy cow. The app named the species. My entire family was all excited and so was it. The app notified me of the arrival and took a quick video and photo. I opted for not signing up for the membership yet because once again I was skeptical. Now that I capture a bird. I might actually sign up for a yearly membership. We will see. I was able to share both videos and snapshots through the app. I was also able to download to my phone. I can also share access up to 10 per the app. It also would have helped if I completely read the instructions where it said it might take about a week for birds to trust your feeder. So after getting out first hummingbird bird visit the family is hooked on this device. I would definitely recommend this for the intended purpose.

Depending on where you live, you might be lucky enough to get a regular hummingbird visitor or maybe quite a few (we live in Southern California, so most seasons we have visitors year round). They're pretty shy birds, so getting up close and personal with them is tricky and normally involves sticking some nectar feeders to the windows and doors of your house and hoping you get lucky. Well, things just got a whole lot easier! The Bird Buddy Hummingbird feeder comes in 3 main sections - the nectar reservoir , the camera module and the main body (incl. a solar power roof) As with most feeders , you just unscrew the bottom section and fill it with the nectar substitute of your choice and once you hang it somewhere accessible, it's feeding time for the birds. But the camera module is where things get smart. The camera module itself is a motion based module, that captures and records all your hummingbird visitors to the feeder, and uploads a photo and a short video clip to the cloud. To setup the camera module initially , and also to view the images / videos you need to install the Bird Buddy app from the appropriate Appstore. Here's my one and only crtique of the setup - like most small IOT devices, pairing it and joining it to you home WiFi network can be a little tricky id you do things in the wrong order. First it pairs bluetooth to your phone and then joins the WiFi directly (same as most other devices), but if you turn the module too early in the process and pair before the app gets to the right step , you have to unwind a few steps (remove the device from the phone, factory reset the camera module etc) before you try again. It sounds simple, but in this case it's true - if you do EXACTLY what the manual and App says (do NOT turn on the module until prompted to do so) then things will be fine. I'm sure there's an easier way to do this, but for now, this part took my probably longer than anything else. Once the module is charged and paired to your network - insert it into the main body and connect the USB cable. This cable connects to the solar panel in the roof of the main body, so assuming you get at least 'some' sunlight in your location the batter should keep itself charged year around. If not, then just be prepared to unplug it from the unit every now and then and give it a full charge using any regular USB-C mains adapter (note: you can see the batter level in the app so you don't need to guess). Finally the BirdBuddy App is both amazing and a little confusing - first the confusing part. There seems to be a mix between your videos/photos and community provided content unless you are very specific about what you want to see. Also getting feedback / help identifying birds is not clear, and then if you are luck to get a lot of hummingbird visitors , you'll end up switching off your notifications - which of course means then you might miss out on things. It's a minor gripe, but some level of 'detail' for notifications would be nice just to help streamline the process. Then the amazing part - the videos and pictures are crystal clear, and when you find them , easily accessible and sharable through the app. I had the feeder up for maybe 4 hours, and I already had a couple of visitors that I had never seen up so close before. If you are willing to pay for the Bird Buddy Pro subscription (not mandatory) then you can also start to name the birds that are repeat visitors, and ultra high res 2k videos - but to be honest I haven't found the need to sign up for this yet, as the out-of-the-box experieince is so awesome. However, as I become more familiar with my hummingbird neighbors, it might be worth paying that little extra to know who is coming and going. Note: BirdBuddy also make a regular Bird Feeder with the same functionality - if you don't get hummingbirds where you are, their other products offer similar features and functions.

The Bird Buddy Smart Hummingbird Feeder with Solar Roof is a smart feeder that uses tech and AI to capture close-up visits from hummingbirds all streamed directly to your phone. It uses AI to identify what types of birds visit your feeder, and the app is filled with both educational and device-specific information to keep your feeder optimized and well maintained. *Setup* Setup was easy. I charged my Bird Buddy for two hours before installation. The first step is installing the app and it walks you through each step to activate your Bird Buddy and set it up on your local Wi-Fi network. The next step is to place it in your yard. I have a new house so I'm limited on trees. I decided to install an in-ground shepherd's hook that I could hang it from. Setup and installation took me approximately 30 minutes. Bird Buddy recommends a partially shaded area to protect both the nectar and birds from excessive heat. There will be a slight tradeoff between charging and reducing the direct sunlight. Sadly, it looks as if all of the hummingbirds have migrated South for the Late Fall and Winter months. In Central Texas, hummingbirds leave for Mexico and South America as late as Mid-November so most likely I will be setting up in March when they begin arriving. Even without local birds, the Bird Buddy app has plenty of live feeds and videos shared by other users. There's also a BB Explore section that takes you all over the world. The first four feeds were located in Panama, Hawaii, Ecuador, Canada, and India. *Build Quality* The bird feeder build quality is a hard plastic that's fairly basic but sturdy. It's easy to clean and refill, and holds approximately 8 ounces of hummingbird nectar. The focus is really on a high resolution camera. The camera charges quickly and has a USB-C plug that connects to the housing unit. There's a wire frame that helps you hang it on any kind of hook. *Software* The app is fantastic. With the Solar Roof, my battery is at 98% after a week. Even with a high-tech camera, the sun does all of the charging for you and keeps it fully charged. My bird feeder is in my backyard and about 100 feet from my Wi-Fi router indoors. My signal is excellent. There's no lag or connection issues. The app provides instructions, help and support, and even allows you to speak with a live person if necessary. The app will remind you to clean the bird feeder every 3 days to maintain fresh nectar for your birds. Bird Buddy also identifies birds that visit your feeder and sends you notifications so that you can view streams. There's a Pet Alert that will notify you if there's a cat nearby. I'm using this feature to keep an eye on my cat who often exhibits hunting behavior when he's outside. The premium membership allows you to store unlimited captures in 2K resolution. You can also name birds and track their return visits. It even sends alerts when sick birds visit your feeder and educates you on how to prevent the spread of disease. Additionally, Premium gives you access to exclusive remote bird feeds. Overall, I like this unique up-close view of birds in my backyard. I'm looking forward to viewing and sharing with family and friends. When I was younger we would watch birds out of the window at my grandmother's house. Now, we can view them, identify, and record them. I would recommend the Bird Buddy to anyone that has an interest in birds and their local community, and those that need a little help identifying their visitors. Recommended. *Pros* *Easy installation *High resolution *Outstanding app to monitor, educate, and save memories 8Excellent support provided *Cons/Needs Improvement* *Need Wi-Fi connection to stream *Need some shade to protect birds and nectar *Setup requires some tech knowledge

If you love Hummingbirds and who doesn’t, you owe it to yourself to get a Bird Buddy Hummingbird feeder for the ultimate feeding experience. Our backyard has been a fueling stop for Anna’s hummingbirds for several years now and my wife and I never get tired of watching them. The Bird Buddy will replace our original feeder hung on shepherd’s hook pole and mounted in a large flowerpot just outside our dining room window. With the success of Bird Buddy’s birdseed feeder, we loved the idea of owning their latest Hummingbird feeder. Setup is quick and simple. It does require installing the Bird Buddy app on your smartphone to create an account and of course that’s where you will configure everything and view the “postcards” and videos of hummingbirds. The bird feeder itself consists of the feeder reservoir base where the nectar is stored, the feeder body itself with an integrated solar panel on top, a simple metal hangar, and finally the camera module itself. The camera module should be charged first, using a supplied USB-C cable, but do note that you will need to provide your own USB-C power adapter. Once the camera module is charged, step-by-step instructions will guide you through the rest of the installation. The camera module is held by a magnet and a weatherproof USB-C plug connects to the solar charger. Bird Buddy does offer a monthly or more annual subscription to “unlock” its premium features, but it’s not necessary to enjoy the Bird Buddy feeder. I did subscribe to the one-year plan to test out the premium features. The feeder reservoir offers three swappable “flower” feeding ports with some extra ports in case you lose one. Some of the accessory ports are closed (no opening in the flower), and those can be inserted into the two outer feeders to train the birds to only eat from the center port. The purpose behind this is to get the birds “front and center” for better photographs if so desired. Bird Buddy uses some AI processes in the app to identify the species of visiting birds. You can even attach a nickname to identify frequent and recognizable visitors. Filling the Bird Buddy Hummingbird feeder is easy…just a simple twist to remove the reservoir from the body of the feeder. There are symbols on the plastic to easily align the parts correctly. A recipe is included in the instruction pamphlet for mixing your own nectar using water and refined white sugar. Bird Buddy recommends changing the nectar frequently (every 3 days) to ensure the nectar is fresh and healthy. Older nectar can develop bacteria that is harmful to the birds. You can even turn on a reminder in the app to refresh the nectar. The cleanliness of the feeder is also important, and a small bottle brush is included to clean the feeding ports and hard to reach places inside the reservoir. I did encounter a minor issue with the feeder after installation and Bird Buddy provided awesome first-class support. I was thoroughly impressed with how well they handled everything in a pleasant yet efficient manner, and they were able to resolve the issue quickly. Should you ever need support, the Bird Buddy support team is there to help! Last but not least, the Bird Buddy app lets you share your hummingbird postcards and videos with family and friends, making it a great educational resource for your children and/or grandkids to learn about nature up close and personal.

Hummingbirds frequent the surroundings of my home all year long. I just love stopping and watching them whenever I spot one nearby. So, when I found out that this feeder camera existed, I was excited to try it out. Despite the fact that I love this animal, I will admit I knew little about feeding them. I have such a mixture of flowers growing everywhere that I never have seen the need to research this. So, when I realized I have to refill the station every three days, I was dismayed at the cost this would accrue. Well, this worry turned out to be unfounded because nectar can easily be made with water and refined white sugar. The bird house comes with very clear instructions on how to put it together and get it ready for bird feeding and watching. It comes with three feeding spouts and two stoppers, all in red to attract the hummingbirds. Thus, we can feed several at a same time or just have one spout open in the center to get the best camera angle to record our little visitors. The camera has to be charged once inside but is then solar charged outside. The solar power is highly effective. I have it in full sun and after going down to 56% during some cloudy days it is now up to 94% after two sunny autumn days. I love that I don’t have to worry about taking the camera in to charge every few days. It also goes “to sleep” at night to conserve battery, which I think is a great feature to have. The app, Bird Buddy, is easy to follow and quickly connects to the feeder. The app allows up to two additional people to be invited to the account to view the bird activity. Since my daughter was ecstatic I got this bird feeder and adores animals of all kinds, she was the first one invited and was thrilled to get to view it anytime she wants. It is stated that it can take around two weeks for birds to find and trust a new location, and as I was about to finish this review, I got my first visitor a week in. The app identifies the type or types of species the bird most likely belongs to. For my visitor, it sated it was either a Rufous or Allen’s hummingbird, which makes sense as the two are difficult to tell apart. The app also learns the usual times that it spots a specific bird around the feeder. Along with that, it allows me to name birds that become regulars, which I just love because I know I see the same birds every day, but I cannot personally tell them apart visually. The camera records phenomenally and has the option to record up to 2k clips. I have it at 1080p due to the distance it is from my wi-fi, and I can easily see the intricate details of the little Allen that stopped by for some nectar. I am just loving this smart hummingbird feeder and the fact that technology now allows for active birdwatching without spending hours with binoculars or cameras outside. I get to see who our little tree neighbors are, name them, and feed while admiring them up close whilst giving them their space.

So I have the hummingbird type of bird buddy and set up was simple somewhat. First step is to charge the camera itself with the supplied usbc cable (no charger adapter included) for a couple of hours and I figured, where’s the charging indicator? Couldn’t see a light anywhere however as instructions said it’s ready when there’s a blue light blinking meaning it’s charged enough and ready to pair (but no type of fully charged indicator). It is a faint light so you would have to cover your hand somewhere over the top nub (which you grab to pull out from the feeder housing) to see the light. Of course I got the bird buddy app and of course Bluetooth had to be on and you connect to your WiFi. Instructions explained it all, and yes you make an account. And I had to do a software update so most likely that will be one of the other first things needing to be done. I like how they included a sugar water recipe of how many tablespoons to a cup and half, which is what I did since I was out of premade nectar. Anyhow I noticed just the food reservoir is red and the camera and housing is white. Hummingbirds like red and I think it would be cool to have most of this red too but, this is fine anyway. I have a small clear red baffle/shade that I hung this from that doesn’t interfere much with the sunlight for charging the solar unit that charges the camera. I set it up along with a couple feeders across the way. The next day, to my surprise I already had a couple of visitors. It triggers recording when a hummingbird is present feeding. I did put it in a spot however where I moved one feeder to different location. Per the guide it mentions a week or two for birds to notice. I’m also able to livestream but during sunset the camera turns off to conserve battery. So far it’s always been in the 90s percent as I have checked earlier this afternoon. Again, a great product for hummingbird watching.

The Bird Buddy Smart Hummingbird Feeder comes well packaged with good instructions. I downloaded the app and charged the camera before placing it outside. I had difficulty getting it paired but after several tries, it connected. I was not impressed with the included hanger since I was placing this on a shepherds hook and it promptly fell down. I created a more sturdy device with copper wire that I wrapped around the feeder since the winds in Arizona would surely knock this down. As an experienced person who feeds over 30 hummingbirds in the Summer in the Midwest ,I found the recipe for the nectar to be somewhat strange since it measured the sugar in Tablespoons and this is not easy to do. The nectar tray only holds 2 cups so perhaps this is why but 6 Tablespoons equals .375 cups and it is just a strange way to display a recipe. I used my own recipe with the usual 1:4 ratio. The camera for this device is very good with great resolution. I am not sure why, but this camera recognizes house finches that likes this feeder but I have seen many hummingbirds stop by and it has only recorded a few and said it was an unidentified bird or incorrectly calls it another bird. I have manually changed the name several times. I have watched hummingbirds at the feeder and at times the Live camera will record them but since hummingbirds move very quickly, it seems the camera can’t capture this. It does record lovely photos of the birds that are thieves like the finch and Gila woodpeckers. It also tells me to clean it when it is not needing cleaning yet. There is subscription plan that is an option. . It is my impression that this device is not quite ready for prime time. Given the number of different birds stealing the food, I think this device will do better in the Midwest next Spring.

I was just wishing for some kind of camera on my hummingbird feeder - they are my favorite birds to watch and they are just too fast for me to take decent pictures of using just my phone’s camera. I looked around online for some kind of setup, but then I got a surprise. My husband gave me an “original” Bird Buddy for Christmas last year and I have enjoyed watching the birds visit my garden. When he gave me the Hummingbird Buddy this past week, I was overjoyed. It was extremely easy to setup, especially since I already had the app on my phone and already had experience with how to setup the feeder’s Wi-Fi, and I knew where I was going to hang it outside. All I had to do was charge the camera, make a batch of nectar, pair it with the app, and hang it on the porch. Since it is already November here in NC and I hadn’t seen a hummingbird at the feeder for several days, I didn’t know if I would get to see any drink at the camera feeder till next season. Lo and behold, I had hummingbirds arriving almost immediately. I love that the camera on the Hummingbird Buddy can be set to record in either 1080p or 2K for MUCH better resolution of those speedy little birds. It does a great job of snapping stills and recording little 1 min videos and then alerts you after a visit via the app. You can also add guests like your family members so that everyone gets to enjoy them. It also has a solar panel on top to keep the camera charged which is great. There is an alert you can turn on to remind you to change and clean the feeder water every 3 days. The 3 day alert is nice and all, but I typically clean and refill mine about every 4-5 days. I’m sure 3 days is super hygienic, but I keep an eye on the nectar and change it as needed. It would be nice if the app could let you set the reminder days and choose 3, 4 or 5 day, etc. - maybe they’ll add that in future app update. Overall love it!

The Bird Buddy is such a great gadget that is built solidly, despite being all plastic, and has a decent app to go along with it. First of all, the assembly and preparation of the feeder are very simple. The camera did take a few hours to fully charge the first time, which is expected, but the solar panels on the top of the feeder are enough to keep the camera running for at least a few weeks without plugging it in. However, we just plug in the camera when we change the food every week. I do wish someone would have thought to provide various mouthing/hanging options for the feeder. While the single metal triangle is sufficient, additional options would have made hanging it easier for me. One of the places the Bird Buddy fell short was the app. The AI frequently gave the same hummingbird 3 or 4 different subspecies of hummingbird. I happen to know that this particular feeder is only visited by one hummingbird and if it is visited by another, it isn’t around for long. I hope they continue to improve that aspect of the app. Also, while it is a cute feature, I hate having to pay more just to name the visitors to my feeder. While I understand the need to charge for the app features, I would rather see a lifetime/one time only fee as an alternative to a monthly subscription. I bought a bird feeder, not a subscription. Overall, it’s great but make sure you give it time, like a real bird, it took about a week for my feeder to get in to a rhythm and notify me that it was receiving visitors, despite the fact that I saw birds visiting it with my own eyes. Overall, I would recommend this feeder if you’re a seasoned or novice or accidental ornithologist.

Let's get it out of the way: I love birds. And humming birds are at the top of my favorites. So when I first saw the Bird Buddy smart feeder, I was excited. I mean, you don't just provide the birds with a safe place to feed, but you can also take pictures and short films of your visitors. Who wouldn't want that? The box contains everything you need to set the feeder up. Including a camera module (which you need to fully charge before use!), the body which has a solar panel to provide power to the camera, the base which will contain the liquid, 2 spare feeder tips and a cleaning brush. All you have to provide is the nectar and that's about it. After charging the camera module, you will need to pair it with the app on your phone, which doesn't take much more than a couple of minutes. Once all that is done, you'll need to find a good spot to hang the feeder up. The guide says to set it up in a sunny spot, away from possible predators which could climb up and harm the birds. I decided to install it next to a climbing, blooming vine which I know attracts humming birds (we have them almost all year round). To my dismay, after setting it up, we've had a cold snap, which made the birds move. So I can't provide a nice picture of a humming bird feeding at the Bird Buddy. Something I really love about this feeder is the app. It allows you not only to record for yourself, but you can also share your camera with others or post recordings for other users. It really is a community effort. There's really not much more to add. It's a great little feeder which will surely bring joy to bird lovers such as myself. If you want to catch some good shots of your garden's humming birds, look no further. Way to go Bird Buddy! Recommended!

I was so excited to receive this Bird Buddy Smart Hummingbird Feeder with Solar Roof! It seems like such a simple concept, but I had no idea this type of device existed. There's all manner of cool, fun, and practical technology out there, and this Bird Buddy feeder with camera, is one of them! I followed the easy-to-understand illustrated Quick Start Guide, and after a momentary hiccup connecting to my mobile phone, I was good to go! Of course, you're going to want to charge the camera first, and yes, there is a companion Bird Buddy app. Oh, and there's even a homemade nectar recipe in the Quick Start Guide. There are many useful features in the app. You are able to setup a feeder cleaning reminder, record audio of bird sounds, enable bird identification, take photos or videos (and add a watermark), watch videos from other users, invite guests to view your Bird Buddy camera, set pet alerts, as well as, ignore other feeder "visitor" such as squirrels. An optional Premium Experience subscription is available, though you do not need to subscribe in order to use this Bird Buddy feeder. Bear in mind that it may take some time for the birds to notice the feeder, and to be comfortable enough to approach the device, as it's something new added to their usual environment. Being able to marvel at the beautiful hummingbirds fluttering in place as they feed on the provided sweet nectar, is something special to behold. The built-in solar roof panel is made really well, and so far, seems to do a good job of keeping the camera charged up. Picture quality for the camera is pretty good too, just remember that a solid connection to your phone is important. How well lit the placement of your feeder is at, along with weather conditons, can affect your viewing experience. However, IMO the price for this is a bit high. I get that the tech involved accounts for that, but in all honesty, my outdoor home security spotlight camera costs less. That being said, this Bird Buddy Smart Hummingbird Feeder with Solar Roof is a fun, well-made device which allows you to get an 'up close' view of nature from the comfort of your own home.

I never knew how older I am now in life until you receive a Bird Buddy Smart Hummingbird feeder. The excitement and joy in my face when I open the Bird Buddy app and see that the feeder has captured hummingbirds drinking the nectar in the feeder. I’ve always had basic hummingbird feeders, and I always took it on faith that the hummingbirds are using it. Although this is a significantly higher investment than your basic feeder, the ability to wirelessly capture the hummingbirds is well worth it seeing these little guys buzz around the camera. The camera is charged by the solar panel on top of the feeder and after using it for a week the battery is always fully charged to the 90% mark when it goes into sleep mode at night. The base detaches from the camera unit easily allowing you to refresh the nectar and clean out the container preventing mold and bacteria from forming. Being fully wireless after the initial setup, you can place this anywhere as long as you get some sun to charge the camera. I will be interested in seeing how this holds up in the southwest heat and sun. Obviously, I will have to move this out of the sun during the hot days so it will be interesting to see how limited sunshine will keep the camera charged. The smart part of the hummingbird feeder is surprisingly less than useful for me at the moment. Our hummingbirds are labeled as “Mystery Visitors”, and I thought the AI could identify the species. Perhaps with more time and more captures it will identify the type of hummingbirds we have. Surprisingly the camera can capture 2k video of the hummingbirds and capture 5MP photocards. One thing I was surprised about is that there is no linkage of the Bird Buddy app and features online on their website. Creating an account on the Bird Buddy app does not create you an account on the BirdBuddy.com website. I was hoping to log into the BirdBuddy website while at work where I don’t have my phone on me but it does not appear to have that capability yet. I am unsure if the Premium subscription is worth it over the expansive features already included with the free account. All in all, if you are hummingbird enthusiast, this is well worth your investment.

I’m giving this 4 stars because I simply don’t have any cool shots (postcards) of hummingbirds to share as yet. I do know that it does take a few days to weeks before birds scope out a new feeding source or it may just be a slower time for hummingbirds in my area due to the change in climate but I’m a newbie bird watcher and don’t know much about hummingbird migration, but over the Summer as I’ve developed my backyard garden we would see them constantly. So I know they’ll eventually come a knocking again. Well as faith would have it, I received two bird postcards while writing this review. Neither were hummingbirds but it was still pretty cool to see who was visiting the yard. I have a regular bird feeder and all the birds treat it like it’s their last meal, but we have no way to identify them. This is where this feeder shines. It quickly identified the two birds and now I can put a species name to what I see around the garden. There’s still so many beautiful and colorful birds and just seeing that information makes up for the upfront cost and I’m seriously thinking about their regular bird feeder to help us identify all of the birds that pay us a visit. The app allows you to see other bird houses as well. You can choose to share the videos with community members and it’s quite amazing to see so many wonderful species all across the globe. You don’t need to sign up to be a member to use the app or see others bird feeders. If you have the solar version, you never have to worry about the battery. It lets you know your battery level. You can share a link to your feeder with friends and family who enjoy watching birds. You can save and share “postcards” (pics of the birds that visit your feeder). It’s easy to use. I highly recommend giving it a try if it’s in your budget.

I got the Bird Buddy Smart Hummingbird Feeder right at the end of the season, so I haven’t had any “friends” show up, with the exception of a thirsty squirrel 😊. But this thing is awesome and has inspired me to purchase their regular bird feeder as well. A couple words of caution to buyers. Find the location you want to place your feeder and check the Wi-Fi Signal. I have an external access point within 15-20 feet of this feeder and am getting a “medium” signal. I was a little surprised, considering I have solid Wi-Fi coverage across my entire back yard. But I am able to get a great 2K video stream. Be patient with the live stream. It takes a little bit to connect, but once it did, I did not have issues. Bird Buddy mentions it during setup, but it’s worth mentioning again. Be careful which way your camera is pointing. The background in the camera’s view is very clear. I haven’t yet shared my camera, but that option is available. Lastly, the setup process was pretty seamless. I will mention that the LEDs are built into the white body of the feeder and not the black pinhole as I initially thought. I was looking for the LEDs in the wrong place during the charging, which caused some confusion, as the LEDs are not very bright. I do wish that the company explained better what their paid service offers. Because they didn’t, I haven’t felt inclined to look into it. With all of that said, I would definitely recommend this Bird Buddy Smart Hummingbird Feeder to anyone.

This Bird Buddy Hummingbird feeder comes with a solar panel on the roof to keep the camera charged. After the initial charge the solar panel had no problem keeping the camera operational. After the initial charge, setup was quick and easy, following the instructions on the application. The app is easy to navigate. Playback from the camera has an exceptional picture. I mounted the birdfeeder to a post the old one was one. Having only to move is slightly as the sun was directly on the camera and distorted the picture. The app will also assist you with maintaining the nectar on a regular basis. The camera is mounted showing the 3 feeding ports. The kit also comes with 2 plugs to keep the birds in center view of the camera. The software also assists with identifying the species of bird at the feeder. If you want to there is also a premium membership that offers better resolution and viewing other feeders throughout the world. What I did not like about the system. 1. You cannot see the level of the nectar without disassembling the unit. 2. I could not find in the app where the battery status was. I would recommend you give this product a serious look, you will be hooked on bird watching.

The smart hummingbird feeder is the newest in the Bird Buddy line, and obviously, it’s specially designed to feed and capture videos of hummingbirds. You may need to have extra patience since the little birds are not just fast, but cautious about accepting and using new feeders. Also, they already migrated and have left much of North America for the winter season. This is a nicely made unit, and very little assembly is required. It uses the same camera as other Bird Buddy Smart feeders, and there’s also a solar roof to keep the camera charged. As with most things these days, it is set up and operated through a mobile app. The app was straight forward and leads your through pairing with your device and connecting to your WIFI. It defaults to a 1K video signal but can step up to 2K assuming you have a good WIFI signal where it’s located. Keep that in mind as you choose a spot to hang it outside. If you’re getting this as a gift for your granny, you might need to be prepared to do the setup for them. The bottom section that holds the nectar is a twist release from the main unit. Unfortunately, it’s a bit difficult to see the level, but since nectar should be changed frequently, just set a schedule for that. Of course, as with any bird feeder, it needs to be accessible to you but not to squirrels, cats, raccoons and such. The basic free subscription provides a lot. Video recording, live feed, still “postcards” with push notification of “visitors”, identification of bird species, and views of other feeders around the world. If your want more … high-resolution 2K Ultra video, unlimited cloud storage, naming individual birds, alerts about possible sick birds, access to more remote feeders, early access to beta features, and offers on other Bird Buddy products … your can subscribe to the Premium level for $2.50 a month. This is a very nice feeder for those who enjoy watching some of our smallest and fastest feather friends. As with all hummingbird feeders, it’s absolutely specific to only these guys. It uses the standard Bird Buddy camera, so it would be nice if they sold just the other housings. That would let me switch when the hummers are out of season here. Have fun and enjoy.
