Fantastic and fun ride!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Michael Keaton, in an award-worthy performance, plays Riggan Thompson, who gained world-wide fame years earlier playing a comic-book character called "Birdman." Tired of the character, he declined a 3rd sequel and his career evidently declined as well. Early in the film, he makes reference to Robert Downey, Jr. and "Ironman" to suggest a comparison. Riggan has resurfaced in New York to bring an obscure play to Broadway. He will play the lead character, but needs a new actor to replace one of the other key roles after an accident in rehearsal. Short of time, as previews are beginning, he hires the paramour of Lesley (Naomi Watts) one of the other leads. Mike (Edward Norton) is purely a stage actor and has only contempt for film actors. The other lead is Laura (Andrea Riseborough) who is having an affair with Riggan and may or may not be preggers. And Riggan may or may not be happy with all of that, but right now he has all he can handle.

There should have been a Birdman 4
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As long as I can remember Michael Keaton has always been my go to actor. Whether it was to clean up the streets of Gotham or a battling a vacuum cleaner to the death. I can always count on Michael Keaton to be there to entertain me and my family, to ensure that we got the best quality for our money. Even when that meant paying a little bit extra for said movie quality. But again cost is a small price to play for a brand that has never let me or my family down. You could say we're Michael Keaton people for life, now with that being said. I'm not a fan of the extra add on rotten tomatoes sticker. It's annoying to have to try and remove said sticker, which sometimes damages the structural integrity of the cover. You get the full effect of frustration for damage to the product. Also it doesn't help when you're collection is full of pristine covers and you have a tear in one of them

Michael Keaton plays crazy well
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered Birdman before it won the Oscar for Best Picture. I expected it to be more along the lines of something superhero-ish, but it wasn't quite that. I really enjoyed how the cinematography was done. Everything was pieced together to look like one, long, flowing shot. Very cool. Great story, but the characters/actors really make the movie what it is. Michael Keaton was phenomenal. I think he really made the movie what it was. I'm not sure if it deserved the win for Best Picture, but that's only because I haven't seen all of the movies nominated.

Innovative, thought-provoking film, good product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this blu-ray movie because I had not seen the film in theaters, but was aware it won several Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The acting is very strong, I felt, and the story pretty clever and compelling. The music scoring is also unique, and adds much to the experience. After watching the film I found myself thinking about it for several days, and for me this is a sign of a good movie. The product itself is what you'd expect from a regular movie blu-ray. One disc, some extras that I only briefly glanced through.

Best of 2014
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Twenty Four hours after seeing the film and I still can't stop thinking about it. It's an absolute masterpiece that takes daring and creative chances that pay off in spades. Michael Keaton's performance is incredible. It's easily the best thing he's ever done and it makes the rest of the cast look even better as they play off one another throughout the beautifully choreographed extended takes that took so much skill and hard work to pull off. To go along with the crazy pace and execution of the film is a hypnotizing score by Antonio Sanchez that consists of nothing but percussion. It fits the film perfectly and gives it an odd, offbeat rhythm that I couldn't get enough of. As it stands now, this is my favorite film of the year and it will take a very special film for me like anything more than Birdman.

Very intriquing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first thing I noticed on this film was the lack of cuts. It seems to be a homage to "Rope" in that every take is a very long take. I'm assuming this film was a royal pain to make. Imagine being 8 minutes into a scene and missing a line and having to start over! The premise is nice, the acting is well done and the sets are great (NYC!). Ed Norton does a great job basically parodying himself and his well known habit of being difficult to work with. Keaton is excellent in one of his rare (as of late) staring roles.

Birdman, not a superhero film for everyone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want an action packed superhero film, keep walking. Birdman is not that film. Still it is a fantastic film about an actor who is best known as the face of Birdman who tries his hand in the theater by starring and directing in an adaptation he wrote. As rehearsals wear on we can see some cracks form in his psyche and the toll the theater has taken on our protagonist and we see just how far he can go before breaking. This is a film for people who like more than the Hollywood cliched heroes.

Birdman Is Perfection
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Until this point, I've never really invested in any film by Iñárritu, but Birdman was just a complete powerhouse. The illusion of a single shot, through multiple long takes: Fantastic. The performances from every single person in this film: Truthful, Real, & Powerful. Even though most people in the real world are not actors, stagehands, directors, etc, almost anyone can relate to any character in this film, (unlike that untruthful, small scope, bland garbage movie, "Boyhood") That is exactly what happens in theatre life too, in case you were wondering (most of the time). Birdman - Batman parallels are fantastic. Only Keaton could have done this film. Absolutely fantastic, go out and watch this absurd, real, unbelievable, truthful film.

Outstanding movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was Michael Keaton's best performances to date. The movie was loaded with outstanding performances, for that matter, by Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, and Edward Norton. This was the best by Edward Norton since he played the bad guy in The Italian Job, and maybe by Emma Stone since Spiderman. It gave a more deep look into the making of a Broadway play and the cost to actors to achieve success at this level. It was understanding why this picture won best picture.

Good watch, but not a must see
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can see why many would not have liked this movie, the pace from beginning to end seemed too slow or too fast at times, and I can see how the premise and ending of the movie may be an issue for some. But I'm gonna go based on my initial review of the movie when I watched it in theaters. I liked it, not the best movie of the year but enough to buy it agian on bluray. I feel that Michael Keaton in birdman did a good job at exemplifying an actor who wants to show that he can still act and be relevant. Even if the story around him may not have been agreeable to others, he tries and cares about the role, as well as the other actors around him so for me, that's good enough.

Master Cinemagraphic Story Telling
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Birdman: It’s one of those films that doesn’t fit into any one genre (or any two for that matter) and its wide array of interesting characters can’t be easily summed up. But, that may be the reason why the film is so absorbing. It has so many original qualities that certainly don’t fit into the standard mold of what a star-studded movie should be, instead putting a strange (but fascinating) spin on your typical drama. Alejandro González Iñárritu brings more complexity but seemingly simplistic talent to Birdman with his excellent direction. He knows exactly what needs to be done, how it needs to be done, and when it needs to be done. It's brilliant and thoroughly entertaining.

Brilliant satire of Hollywood and theatre
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nasty, hilarious little digs at all thing sacred in both fields, but not so much as to interfere with ordinary moviegoers, who know nothing about either, from having a great time. Keaton is incredible, and so is Edward Norton, bringing a lot of complexity to their roles, and Naomi Watts is wonderful, as usual. And Emma Stone is memorable as the daughter. I really hope Keaton gets he Oscar, for this. It's not a sentimental bunch of flowers for a lifetime of work (as was John Wayne in TRUE GRIT, for example,) but a true reward for an amazing performance. The disc is fine. I'd really would have preferred to have a had a good, meaningful commentary track, but the two documentary shorts are very impressive.

what if iron man had no more movie deals?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.a character who was once comparable to modern day movie superheroes, is now old and trying to make it back, on the broadway circuit. a story we've heard before, but it comes across as a story of a man in a mid-life crisis, while trying to make a play, all while coming across as a play with the constant long shots. makes you think about what life is like through theyre eyes, especially when you see the relationship with his daughter, which is oscar-worthy.

Great technical achievement with great actors
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a film where I think you have to be able to appreciate the kinds of films that are done in one or two shots. It's certainly a great technical achievement and it took great actors to pull it off, but it leaves you wanting more from the story and expecting bigger set pieces with all the attention it received during award season. Great for film buffs, but this is no Dark Knight film if that's what you're hoping for. Still very good though.

Washed up actor? No, Birdman.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An actor defined by a role, trying to get away from it but having to embrace the thing that made him famous in the first place. A part of his psyche so to speak, Michael Keaton reminds us he can still deliver. What makes it much funnier is that although he was never defined by his role of Batman, he did once play a hero. I wonder how Adam West feels about this film? Regardless good movie, worth the watch.

Incredible film, great BD!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saw this film early on in NYC as part of the festival/indie circuit and thought it would do well among a small audience of film goers and then fade out. Boy was I wrong! Luckily the multiple levels of genius and humor can be appreciated by almost anyone and are a huge respite from the terrible remake culture and a direct hit on the super hero culture of today's big budget blockbusters! The BD and case are both unique as well (and are very similar to the special 15th anniversary edition black Comicon Fight Club Blu-ray) and the special features really give insight as well! The sound is PHENOMENAL on the DTS HD MA track!

hard to follow storyline
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The acting was excellent. However I have watched it three times to try to follow the storyline. I think the movie had hidden meanings which required you to understand what were they were. I was entertained by the story, however it had the feel of a docudrama which I don't find very entertaining. I am a Michael Keaton fan which is the reason I bought the movie. One of his finer movies but not a comedy.

Amazing (but not for everyone)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best part of this movie is seeing Michael Keaton really sink his teeth into a role that was absolutely meant for him, one of the most underrated, undervalued, and hardworking actors in Hollywood. Second best thing about the movie is the great directing--this is a master class in directing (from the all-around excellent performances to the "look" of the film. I've seen this with people who just don't "get it" and if you have to work too hard to "get" a film, then this is not for you.
