Birdman was easily one of the two best films of 2014 and in about eight hours, it might be named Best Picture. Inarritu's fifth feature film hit on all the right cylinders and showed just enough comedy to go with the darkness. It's Michael Keaton's finest hour and the rest of the cast, from Norton to Stone to Watts and everyone in between, crushed it. Highly recommended. The behind the scenes look shows a very interesting side of how the film came together and how Alejandro Gonzalez' vision was clear from the beginning. Fascinating that he wouldn't have done it if Keaton had declined. Thankfully, he didn't.

This movie sets ridiculous goals for itself, and it manages to achieve those goals. It is filled with great performances, excellent technical precision in cinematography/editing/sound, and it is tackles big philosophical questions. Being about art and ego, however, it is (almost necessarily) pretentious. It may be a hard sell for people who are not "artsy", but it is incredibly well executed.

If you have never worked on a play or a movie then you will be taken on a journey of both with this mind bending experience. Some of the most amazing camera work that I have ever seen, there are takes that you have to figure out where they stop, if you don't know this is an amazing feat and done flawlessly throughout the movie. The performances are all top notch and it should give you a new appreciation of the acting chops of the man we knew from beetle juice, batman, and mister mom, Yes Michael Keaton....Enjoy this journey but put your seat belt on because it will take you on many ups and downs.

The complete cast did a really good job, Michael Keaton was Excellent.. I thought that is was a movie that you have to pay complete attention to, or you might ose your way. i liked the movie, but it was not the best movie of the year. My wife did not like the movie at all and went to sleep. It's a long movie, 1 hour and 19 minutes long, GOOD but not Excellent, but well worth watching...

This movie is really amazing. The first 95% or so of the movie appears as if it was one continuous shot and they pull it off flawlessly. The direction, cinematography, casting, acting, and writing are all top shelf. Keaton is amazing as the lead but really every actor brings their A game. The ending is wildly open to speculation as to what it means, but it left me with a grin and a very satisfied feeling. Oh the soundtrack! Very different...it was a bold choice and it works. All drums. Kind of an improvisational jazz feel. A+ movie all around.

Not entirely what I expected in terms of the plot and certainly the thin line between Keaton's reality & the real world. But an amazing performance from Keaton & the entire cast. There are many moments in the film that resonate much deeper for actors, since a lot of what appears to be the crazy nature of putting a play and working with actors of various temperaments is something we know all too well. But for non-theater/actor types, the film is still a rivoting look at an actor's psyche and expertly blends comic absurdity with pathos.

It has its moments, but seems a bit over-rated.

I had some store credit and stumbled upon this movie which won Best Picture and got several other nominations. It is amusing in its own ways and very well shot and crafted as a whole. It getting the hype it got, though, I was expecting more. The plot was a little more random than I would have liked and not very engrossing. While interesting and witty, and having some of my favorite actors in the cast (Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Edward Norton), it seemed to in a way present itself as though it was being taken for granted that it would get awards and should be highly acclaimed just for existing. While it certainly did get awards and nominations, it still could have done without that underlying arrogance. It's hard to explain, but it seems to, like "Anchorman" or "The Other Guys", take for granted its humor and that everyone should just naturally find it amusing simply because it says it is. I would not tell people not to watch it, though, and it was certainly better than "Anchorman" and "The Other Guys."

    BIRDMAN IS ASTONISHING

Confession time: I may not have totally bought Michael Keaton as Batman, but I went for his Birdman hook, line and sinker. What a captivating and ultimately astonishing film this is. It may ask more questions than it ultimately answers, but you've never seen anything quite like it. A beautiful (Biutiful?) mix of backstage shenanigans and magical realism, Birdman is one of the highlights of this past year's theatrical releases and even without a bevy of supplements will certainly be among the best Blu-rays of 2015. Highly recommended.

Blu-ray has a nice transfer and looks great. Film itself is not for everyone. The way it is shot could turn many people off. Story is intriguing-focuses on a famous actor who is known only for his superhero role of Birdman. He tries to break the image by putting on a Broadway show, only to deal a problematic cast, family member, and alter ego-Birdman.

This story of an aging but not quite over the hill Hollywood actor trying to reinvent himself on the Broadway stage is an interesting piece of film making. There is a good reason it won the Oscar for Best Picture. As you watch Michael Keaton as the lead character you'll ask yourself "did that just happen or is it all in his head"...it doesn't matter...the end result is a fascinating film you will want to see again as soon as it ends, it's that good! A surprise Keaton was passed as Best Actor, his performance is incredible.

I liked it because I remember watching the Michael Keaton batman and I could easily conflate bird man an batman. Also, I see the personal struggle and destructive ego trips in the movie as semi-real despite it being pure fiction of course. Let's just say it was believable. That said, it isn't for everyone and it is deeper than the usual popcorn fare.

Great movie in a great format! Have been waiting to find this film in blu-ray and glad I waited because I was also able to find it at a good price in Best Buy. While "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" might not be a film for everyone (and that's perfectly fine!), it is still a special film and think should be watched. It included a digital copy, which I appreciated!

Birdman was filmed as if it was made in one long take, so that in it's own right earns its Oscar nod. Otherwise, there's a lot to digest in what the movie says about what it means to find your worth in this world, let alone if you're a faded celebrity trying to helm a comeback. You might want to watch it a couple times to suck it all in.

I personally rather enjoyed the movie, but as I feel the other reviews show, this movie is simply not for everyone. If you're willing to watch something strange that has beautiful camera work and a compelling cast, go ahead and watch it. Be warned that the ending will almost definitely consume you, and likely leave you wondering.

Though this film may not be for everyone, I consider BIRDMAN a great original film over-all this past year. Aside from winning an Oscar for best Motion Picture and Cinematography ( I am not usually swayed by "awards" but by content and execution of the art form ). On the technical side, cinematography and editing were superb. They both combined in a way that gives the viewer a sense of presence, as if you were in the film yourself following along. The acting was also excellent. Raw and Real emotions from all.

It's a very weird ride, but if you stick with it I think you'll like it. It's definitely worth checking out at least once. You'll feel a bit nostalgic one you see the similarities in appearance to Keaton's DC counterpart superhero, but it's nothing like that. I found myself enjoying a movie I had otherwise no real prior knowledge of.

This movie suffered from being marketed poorly by its studio... the previews made it look like a comedy, and while it has some darkly comedic elements, it is really a drama... and a well-directed, well-acted, and well-written one. I highly recommend it, but if you go in expecting to get a lot of laughs, you will be disappointed.

One of the top movies on the year. The matte slipcover for the movie is beautiful and the front cover opens up to a scene from the movie. The movie has a few special features, and included a code for a digital copy. I bought it at a store and did have to look through a few to find a cover that wasn't worn around the slipcover edges from handling. And for some reason Best Buy likes to put stickers on the cover that are impossible to peel off without residue or goo gone. 5 stars- movie, 3 stars- Best Buy

I held off seeing this for a very long time and just picked it up because it was insanely cheap. Didn't go into it expecting too much, but definitely saw how it can polarize the people. I won't go into it as many other reviewers already said both the pros and cons. I do like the long cut and cinematography was well done.

We all know Michael Keaton played Batman (if you didn't, wow!) which is perfect casting since the character used to play a famous superhero. Riggan Thompson wants to have success in a Broadway play but the temptations to play Birdman again are strong. Love Edward Norton's scenes, specially with Keaton. Emma stone is great as Riggan's drug rehabbing daughter as is Naomi Watts as a co-star in the play. I did not think I would like a film that's about a Broadway play but it's hilariously entertaining!
