As a pet owner I was really needing an easy-to-use carpet cleaner for those total room deep cleaning jobs, but I wasn't wanting to bother with those rental carpet machines. So when this Bissell Big Green Pet Plus machine came along, I just had to give it a try. I'd seen Bissell's Big Green smaller portable machines before, but hadn't ever gotten one. With my home having both tile and carpeted floors, I really have been needing something to tackle the dirt and stains which come from everyday living, but moreso from my pets. Before using your new Bissell Big Green Pet Plus machine, you'll want to read over the VERY detailed Safety & User Instruction Booklet. There's also a handy Quick Start Guide zip-tied to the handle. And Bissell's online support offers a "comprehensive walkthrough" of the machine, along with other additional resources. Something I definitely appreciated was that this Bissell cleaner arrived completely assembled in the box. The power cord is extra-long, and heavy-duty feeling, too, which is important for a machine like this. It also came with a hose attachment and two 'tool' accessories. The aforementioned detailed instructions made it simple to set-up the Big Green machine, and get to work cleaning right away. I decided to begin with the front guest room's carpet. A family member has been staying with us, along with their 'critters', so the carpet in there was in need of some TLC. And boy does this Bissell clean! The amount of 'gunk' this machine picked up out of my carpet was amazing, and disturbing at the same time. You never really know how dirty your carpets are just by looking at them. Dirt can really get ground down into the fibers. I had initially been somewhat concerned about the scent of the cleaning solution, as I am highly sensitive to that sort of thing, but the smell was actually fairly mild, not overpowering in the least. As far as drying time for the carpet... even though it felt dry after about 2 hours, I let the carpet fully dry overnight before putting the furniture back in the room. And there didn't seem to be any residue left from the cleaning solution, which was good. Is the machine heavy? Is the weight easy to maneuver? Is it overly loud when running? Yes, yes, and not excessively. You do need to exert a certain amount of force to move the machine around, but not that much more than you do when using a full-sized upright vacuum. Deciding where to 'store' this Bissell is something to consider, as it is slightly larger and more cumbersome than your average vacuum. Fortunately we have a large garage attached to our house, so the machine will be accessible whenever we want to use it. Overall, this Bissell Big Green Pet Plus carpet cleaning machine does a great job, and will save you time and money by having it 'on hand' ready to use anytime, thereby eliminating the need to go to a store and rent a similar type of machine.

    As good as a rental

To me, this is the same as the ones you can rent at a grocery or big box store. To rent with the hose accessories for 48 hours with taxes etc is about $50 around me. So, if you need to use something like this throughout the year, it’ll pay for itself. The unit is big, but being plastic cuts down on the weight. The setup is simple, and Bissel has made using it pretty idiot proof. Parts connect to each other one way and fit with no issues. The dirty water collector is on the top, you take that off to get to the clean water holder at the bottom. The cleaner solution bottle is in the container when you get it. The clean water holder has three legs to keep it level so it’s easier to fill. The cap for the clean water holder doubles as the cleaner measuring cup. The top half of the handle folds down when not in use and stores the power cord. When using, the handle rotates at the bottom of the unit at the wheels making it easier to handle and move. Fill the bottom tank with water and solution, place it in the unit, put the dirty water collector on top and lock it into place. That’s it, you’re ready to plug in and go. Turn on the power button on the back of the handle. The spray button is on the top of the handle. When the cleaning solution is being sprayed, an indicator spins on the top of the main unit. The recommendation is to go forward and back with the spray on and then repeat with it off. The unit rolls easy and is easy to turn. The suction is power full. Dog hair not picked up by the vacuum this unit got. Carpet was moist to damp after, not wet. This unit cleans deeply. I cleaned a 15x20ft room for spring cleaning and a lot of dirt was pulled out. There was still water left in the tank too. There is one accessory hose with two attachments included. The hose connects to the top of the dirty water container, and a hole for getting cleaning solution. The first tool has a sprayer and some brushes. You scrub and the vacuum gets the water you spray. The tools pop on and off easily by pushing a release button. The second tool operates the same way, but has a collector on it for the dirty return water. It doesn’t go back to the main tank. Both worked well on spots, and stairs. Suction was good using the hose. The unit cleans well and is easy to use. If you rent a rug cleaner throughout the year, this will pay for itself eventually. Deep cleans rugs and with the long power cord will cover most rooms from one plug. It’s easy to take apart, fill and use. The dirty and clean water collectors empty easily without a mess. The hose and accessories come apart and are easy to clean too. A great heavy duty rug cleaner.

Carpet cleaner that rivals commercial quality!

I’ve been using Bissell carpet cleaners for at least the last 25 years, and they’ve been an absolute necessity in a household with dogs. Whether it’s muddy feet or those doggie “accidents”, it’s only a matter of time before the carpet is a mess. Our trusty Bissell Pro Heat model was getting a little long in the tooth, and the hose was beginning to show signs of leaking, so it was time to look for a replacement. The Bissell Big Green Pet Plus seemed to be a step up for us, without being in an entirely different price category, so we decided to give it a try. First off, the Big Green is a serious carpet cleaning machine. You can tell just by looking at it that it’s in a different class from their other machines. What I mean is that it is constructed with a very different look, and you can tell right away that it’s built to withstand a lot of use. My old machines, and even the household models still sold utilize a tough but light plastic, but the Big Green uses a thicker, more opaque kind of plastic for the tanks, and heavy duty gray plastic for the body. One touch and you’ll realize that this thing is tough! The other thing I noticed right away was the weight of this thing. Bissell touts some of their other models as being “lightweight”, but that’s not a claim they can use here. I actually would consider that to be a good thing. If you’ve had to clean your carpets much because of pet messes, you know how you always feel like you need to push down on the cleaner to really get the water out of the carpet. The extra weight of the Big Green does that for you, and all you have to do is move it back and forth. All carpet cleaners utilize removable clean and dirty water tanks, but the design of the Big Green is especially good. The clean and dirty water tanks are completely separate, allowing you to only ever have to deal with one or the other. Filling the clean water tank is easy. Simply fill it with hot tap water and use the built-in measuring cup cap to load it with cleaning solution. Having the measuring cup built into the cap is one of those nice, thoughtful touches that makes a product a joy to use. The cap is attached in such a way that it doesn’t come off completely, so you’re not likely to set it down and have it roll away. Again, a small but thoughtful touch. Once the clean water is loaded, simply put the dirty water tank on top and make sure it’s secure, then you’re good to go. Using the machine is as simple as pushing the green button to dispense solution and then moving the machine slowly back and forth over the area you’re cleaning. The only drawback to the thicker, heavier-duty plastic used for the tanks is that it’s not as translucent as clear plastic, so it’s not as easy to see the dirty water coming up, but it’s more than sufficient. Older machine designs included the hoses and tools onboard at all times. The idea was to have these always at your fingertips, but the design forced the manufacturers to make the hose do double duty, both for external uses as well as by the main machine itself. This was a bit unwieldy, but also put extra stress on the hose every time you used it, which is why mine eventually cracked. The Big Green (and other new models) does not store the hose onboard, and that’s a design choice I love. To use the hose and tools to clean things like upholstery, simply plug the hose into the tank and start using it. This is a superior design that works very well! Clean up is a breeze with the two separate tanks. The dirty water tank is actually in two pieces, which makes it much easier to get to both sections for cleaning. This means no more tanks with perpetually wet corners, or a float mechanism that you can’t reach if you want to clean it. The design of the Big Green’s dirty water tank allows you to pour out the dirty water and rinse all the parts clean and then set them aside for drying. Its anti-tip design makes it easy to use, and you don’t have to worry about it tipping over and spilling the nasty water back on the carpet. It does not have a water heater, so using water that is already hot is the only way to use hot water. One thing that I missed was the ability to spray water only without any cleaning solution in it. My older Pro Heat could do this because it had a separate container for the cleaning solution. Since the Big Green Pet Plus combines the clean water and cleaning solution, it’s not possible to spray water only. This is a minor quibble, since the machine does such a good job of cleaning and extracting water. I was pretty shocked at how much dirt the machine took out of my carpet. As I said earlier in my review, having dogs means you’ll be using a carpet cleaner much more often than people who only pull it out once or twice a year. For frequent use, you need a carpet cleaner that can stand up to that kind wear and tear. If you need a small, lightweight machine for the occasional cleanup and one that stores easily in a closet, you should look at other models. But if you want a heavy-duty carpet cleaner that’s built for the long haul, this is the one. The build of the Big Green Pet Plus gave me confidence that it’ll handle everything I throw at it, for many years to come. It is more than a worthy upgrade for our household!

I cannot decide what I like best about this product. First there is virtually no assembly required. Just open the box, lift it out, remove the plastic and raise the handle. Be sure to take the included full sized cleaner out of the dirty water container. Truly the only assemble is to wind the cord on the cleats provided. Beyond that, the only thing you need to do is attach the hose to use the attachments. Speaking of attachments, two were included with my unit. Both have provision to provide cleaner to the cleaning head. Attaching the hose is super easy and fast. The upholstery attachment is standard and works well. The stain trapper is amazing!! Should a human or pet do the unthinkable, this lets you deep clean the area but also contain the mess at the head or suction area of the attachment. This eliminates getting the hose and tank contaminated with something that might need "extra attention." If you have a puppy this is really a great idea. As for the unit I it is very well thought out. The revivors are easy to get to and will sit flat on the bottom of the sink for easy filling / cleaning. The brushes in the main unit are about 2" back from the front and the sprayer behind them so, when going up to a wall or other obstacle, it leaves a considerable space. However, the edge cleaning on both sides is very good getting right up to a wall, so just change direction for easy wall to wall cleaning. As for cleaning ability it is very effective and easy to use. The center of gravity is low and the large rear wheels make maneuvering easy.

    Big Green Carpet Cleaning Machine

Our previous house had hardwood floors in nearly all rooms except for the master bedroom so there wasn't much need for a carpet cleaner. We could easily spot clean any accidents and ignore the rest. We recently moved into a different house that has carpet in two bedrooms, plus a large room above the garage that will be my home office. The previous owners had dogs and kids and while the carpets were in okay shape, they needed a little attention before we moved in. We have a couple dogs as well so there will always be a need to have a carpet cleaner on hand - because accidents happen. Bissel is one of the biggest names in the floor care and the Big Green is the most powerful machine in their residential line-up. While, I'm not a carpet cleaning pro one could probably start up a carpet cleaning business with the Big Green. That said, BG is big, heavy and loud. While that might not be what you want in a partner, that is what you want in a carpet cleaner. It'll help get that deep nasty gunk out of your carpet and make them look like new again. Because of the size, moving this between different floors could be a concern. Speaking of stairs, this has a handheld wand that can be used for cleaning stairs or even cleaning the carpets in your car. All in all, this is a pretty great carpet cleaner that should see years of use. Bissel even gives in a 5 year warranty to make sure it keeps working.

Ok so I want to say this first so it gets noticed because I thought it was one of the best things I saw on the box before opening it, that I didn't know about Bissell. They have a Rescue Pet Foundation and for every purchase of one of their products this company donates a portion to helping and rescuing pets! That is a company I want to purchase from. https://www.bissellpetfoundation.org/2013/01/10/buy-bissell-save-pets/ That being said..This vacuum is amazing! It's more of an industrial strength cleaning system in my opinion and you can tell that by it's size and power. This machine removed stains other vacuums didn't touch even being older stains it made the carpet look like new. Setup out of the box was a breeze but this machine is not light! You have the main base unit with push handle, the two water tanks and the tubing. The clean water tank is to be filled then snapped back into place and you're ready to go. The other tank is where the soiled water deposits. It comes with a few attachments and bottle of cleaning solution to spray. One thing I was surprised to see is that the tubing attachments also can spray solution for cleaning. Which I thought only the base unit did. The directions do say however to check the cleaning directions before using it because something will cause color bleed. I have a Husky who loves to dig and track in dirt and sheds horribly. With running this just once over my carpets. It's taken them back to the bright vibrant color and and the fresh smell that once were! Cleanup was a snap, literally, unsnapping the water reservoirs and dumping the soiled water tank, rinsing it clean, then snapping it back into place. You're ready to tackle your next task! Overall I would highly recommend this to someone who has a lot of high trafficked carpeted areas or lots of fur babies who like mine, like to bring the outdoors.. in! haha In my opinion this isn't for light duties or everyday or weekly vacuuming. More so for the tougher jobs

the good: - clean clean clean! - Outside of having professionals come in and clean my carpet, I've not seen this kind of cleaning power before. I've been using a H&%$(r carpet cleaner for years now, and wrongly thought that I had actually been cleaning my carpet. I've got 3 dogs, 2 of which are getting on in years and don't exactly control themselves 100% of the time. Ew right...but of course we love them and so we tolerate it happening, if not the presence of the mess itself. Not a problem, simply break out the carpet cleaner and take care of it. So once I received this machine, I thought it might be an interesting test of its effectiveness by going over the same areas I had with the previously mentioned machine. OH. BOY. What I found was both exciting and disappointing, as well as a bit disheartening. Areas I had considered "clean" were very much not so. The liquid coming back into the disposal tank of the Bissell was, to put it mildly, decidedly *not* clean. (Think chocolate milk with too much chocolate...I'll spare you any more details than that.) Suffice it to say, this big guy does some serious cleaning. - "simple" and strong design - The design itself feels "beefy" and well thought out. Very simple shapes and only a few parts in total. Everything is easy to use and disassemble when needed. It has the feel of quality components. - attachments (stairs and stain trapper) - Only 2 attachments, but one is good (the stairs tool) and one is an absolute life saver (the stain trapper). Specifically regarding the stain trapper tool, I'll share a short (and mildly disgusting) story. As I mentioned earlier in this review, we have 3 dogs, 2 of which are old and incontinent. One particular day I had multiple accidents to clean up, of the solid nature as it were. Keep in mind, this is using my old carpet cleaner. I cleaned up the first without issue, then I moved on to the second, which happened to be in a room the rest of the family was using. As I continued to clean up the second accident, the foulest stench began wafting through the room. The mess I was cleaning was essentially going through the machine and the air was moving the stench of the first mess right along with it. The stain trapper tool prevents that situation by trapping the accident contents into the portable disposal tank, preventing it from ever going through the machine. Outstanding! What a wonderful time to be alive! ;-) - weight (see "the bad" as well) - Definitely a heavy machine, but this has both negative and positive impacts. Bad is that it of course is a workout to move around, but it also is heavy enough to really "sink in" to the carpet and not just drag across the surface. - easy to clean - Significantly easier interior to clean after use than other machines I've used. - comes pre-assembled - Just remove from the box and unfold. the bad: - weight - I'm listing weight in both good and bad categories. I wouldn't consider it difficult to move around, but it is definitely not light. Expect a workout if you need to clean a large area. - wheel design - Articulating wheels would've been a nice touch. As is, straight line is all you get, with a little bit of curve if you force the issue. misc: - attachments are not stored on the unit itself - power cord not retractable overall: This machine is meant to help with pet cleanup, but it is a beast in the best way possible (see what I did there?). It punches well above its weight, in a class with professional machines I've had experience with. The stain trapper tool is a gem as well, meant to keep especially nasty...materials...from entering the main machine area. Yes it's heavy and the wheels don't allow for direction changes very easily, but it more than makes up for those small short comings with it's sheer cleaning power. Easy 5 stars for me.

I think this cleans better than most professional carpet cleaning companies. If you don't mind being a do-it-yourselfer, as I am, you will like this machine. The first time using it on what I thought were fairy clean carpets, I was surprised at the amount of dirt it pulled out, the waste water was filthy. A sign to me that this thing cleans very deep, the carpet looked great and dried in just a few hours. It is a large one time investment but it will pay for itself over and over again. I highly recommend this machine.
