It does all things but set proper expectations.

The Bissell CrossWave Pet Pro All-in-One Multi-Surface Cleaner is supposed to be all things for floor cleaning. A vacuum and washer for both hard floors and carpets. Like many devices that try to be an all in one,The Crosswave is not the best at all the functions but does do them relatively well. Will it vacuum as well as an dedicated vacuum or clean a carpet as well as a dedicated rug shampooer ? No. not even close. The vacuum is average at best and it is just not powerful enough to be a good carpet cleaner ( if you do not have strong suction you will not have a good carpet cleaner.) It is at best, a spot vacuum and light spot carpet cleaner. However, what it does well is is clean hardwood floors. My house is pretty spotless and I regularly clean my floors. So I did not expect much and , frankly, did not see much happening at first. But upon closer inspection, I could see the waste water definitely dirty – it was cleaning dirt that I could not even see at first. To clean, I made two passes with everything active to clean and then one slow pass to with the solvent/water not engaged ( vacuum mode.) The vacuum mode after washing the floor dries it nicely. There was minimal moistness on the floor after using the machine to dry. Now back to the the carpet cleaning function, I do not have pets and my carpets are very clean. So I did not have the opportunity to test it on anything heavily soiled. When I did test it, I found the cleaning to be mild and it left a bit too much of water/solvent on the carpet . In my opinion this was a direct reflection of the suction power and indicative of not being powerful enough to be a carpet cleaner. To be fair, Bissell promotes this a multi-surface cleaner and not a carpet cleaner but I could see how some may expect more in the that respect. Assembling the Crosswave is easy - simply slide in the handle and attach the water and solvent tank. It literally took under 60 seconds. The cord is relatively long but there is not much in the way of cord management. With the unit running and the trigger for the water and solvent engaged, the machine was quite loud. Manageable but definitely loud. The cleaner is very light weight and easy to maneuver. So the big question, will you like it? The answer is maybe. If you set the proper expectations that this is mainly for hardfloors with the occasional spot clean of a rug then yes. If you expect it to do a deep clean of carpets or if you have thick carpets then no. I do not think Bissell was designing the machine to the be the best of all worlds, it was designed to be multi surface cleaner and you have to give up some of the strengths of a dedicated machine for the respective function to do that. I am going to recommend the unit based on the good hardwood floor cleaning and if you need more of a carpet cleaner, look to the Bissell dedicated carpet cleaners.

Not as convenient as I'd like

This multi-surface does a decent job cleaning floors and rugs – no complaint about its core functionality. But there are a few shortcomings that keep me from rating it higher. First, because it collects dirty water, it requires cleaning after every use, no matter whether it's a small or large job. This point probably applies to all appliances in this category, not just this one. And since most jobs are small, it's more work to clean the vacuum than it is to clean a small spill. If you’re planning to use this as part of a regular routine or for large clean ups, then it makes sense to consider. Second, there is no edge cleaning. Deep corners, base boards, and other edges will have to be attacked with other tools. It has no attachments, even for dry vacuuming. Third, the trigger for releasing solution is badly placed. When pushing the vacuum around, it's easy for your fingers to slip to the trigger, releasing fluid when you don't mean to. Lastly, for lack of a better description, the overall feel of the appliance is clunky. The misplaced trigger above is one example. Another is it's easy to spill cleaning fluid when trying to pour it into the clean water tank because of the spout design. And once you fill the clean water tank, it's easy to cap it in a way that looks closed, but isn't. The result is water quickly leaks through the bottom and onto your floor. And finally, when emptying the dirty water tank, the strainer is not snapped to the tank so if you forget it's there, it will fall out when you turn over the tank to pour out the water. Now imagine your kids or pets cause a mess and you’re in a hurry to clean it up. When you’re in a rush, you are less likely to pay attention to details like capping the tank properly, keeping hands away from the trigger, etc… You can argue this is all user error, but I think its overall design is not good for when you’re in a hurry. Certainly you'll remember all these details after a few uses, but its first time use could have been thought through better. As a result, I can only recommend this if you’re planning to use this methodically.

    So-So - I prefer my separate machines

I had been very interested and reviewed all reviews on Amazon and Best Buy, they all made me very excited to at least give it a try. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. I have a Bissell carpet cleaner, a Bissell Steam mop and a Shark vacuum cleaner, all of which work amazing. I was hoping that this machine would enable me to reduce using the carpet cleaner and steam mop. I noticed from the get go that this machine was very difficult to push, I'm 28 years old and every other machine was smooth and easy to move. This was frustrating since I had to put my back into it, I do realize it's suction is strong but still not comfortable. I tried it on carpet first then I tried it on the hard wood floors. On the hard wood with the cleaner option, it just left big wet spots versus actually sucking and completing the job. Overall very sad since I had high hopes for this but I think I'll just stick to my amazing machines that take care of jobs separately. Maybe some day they will get the science down for combining two cleaners in one.

We got this to clean both hardwood floor and some 10x8 rugs that our cats and dog like to lounge around on. The Bissell works great on the hardwood floors, really makes a difference that is noticeable. It does work on the rugs, but puts a 'wet pet hair smell' into the air sometimes (if you are cleaning up pet hair matted into the rug). After we cleaned the unit itself, and then cleaned the rugs that we previously cleaned, there was less of that 'wet pet smell', but it requires cleaning the rugs every few days versus weekly or monthly.

As title says, this does great job on floors. Leaves them nearly dry and amazing what the water looks like when done! Had no idea my floors were so dirty. Lousy even on area rugs - just doesn’t have enough power and spray. Recommend highly for hard floors. Cheaper and more efficient machines fur rugs.

I used it and it works but I didn’t really see a difference between this and my much cheaper Swiffer Wet. If you have mainly carpet then I would say it’s probably a good buy but if you have mostly wood floors, save yourself money and get a Swiffer.

I was hoping this Bissell floor cleaner would be my answer to cleaning tile floors. It is not. It does ok with minor dirt on top, but no effect on grout dirt. It is also very noisy, so may use ear protection next time I use it

Loved the vacuum when I first purchased it. Used it almost 2-3 times a week. Only problem is the vacuum line gets clogged and has to be cleaned every time or the dirt dries and collects and adventually clogged the line. Overall good vacuum!!

My wife begged me to get this for our new house. I finally caved, took it home, and she was ecstatic. She got it 3/4 of the way put together and looked at all the work required after each use. She returned it without using it.

This machine works but just barely. Bissel could do much improvment on this device by making it have a better suction system. As it is it takes many passes to clean and when it dries it is still dirty much of the time

This unit would be better if the spray of solution was more consistent. Some times it comes out fine but other times it barey comes out at all.

Its ok if you are cleaning a room. I would prefer if it was cordless and if it would have a bigger contrainer for the dirty water.

I liked the Symphony Pet steam vacuum. The crosswave is not steam. It just cleans ok, not great. It also does not get the edges of the floor.
