I wanted to like this but the bot just didn’t cut it. It doesn’t have navigation so it randomly runs around the room. I was mainly interested in the mopping. While it did seem to be adequate it ran all over the room draining its battery and missing spots.

I cant believe they raised the price of these. They are horrible. Couldnt navigate around a table leg. Needs a lot of help on the software side. Tried in my kitchen and got stuck under the tow kicks constantly and instead of trying to turn around it would just keep trying to go forward cause apparently it wasnt close enough to the cabinet to see it. Tried in my dining room essentially blocking off my kitchen and removed all chairs. Would run into table legs and just start beeping cause it apparently couldn’t pick see them so would get stuck going in circles and then just stop and start beeping saying it was stuck. Super disappointed really thought this was a neat device to have both the sweeping and mopping in one but it never even finished cleaning either of my rooms because I just gave up and got tired of having to go get it unstuck.

If you have kids running the floors the whole day, this is a REQUIREMENT. Don’t get me wrong, it will not do hard sticky substances. But the floor does get dirty EVERY DAY, and having this Bissell mop your floors daily helps with having to deal with leaving the floors sticky and actually taking that mopping time OUT OF YOUR HANDS. What I love about this thing though is, it is QUIET. The lady of the house uses a regular electric mop to clean our floors daily once the kids are asleep. I was afraid, using this will be noisy at kids’ downtime. This one does not disappoint and it mops without waking the kids up! Out of the box, it is easy. I am a little advanced when it comes to tech but I can tell, a regular un-techie person can easily unbox this thing and put it together. The design is sleek and the device is light. The app to install is easy, and guess what—it has video tutorials in the app itself, so I don’t think any regular user will have a tough time figuring out how to operate this Spinwave. Oh I don’t know if this matters to most but this device has a replaceable battery too. Now, the way it cleans, it does not seem to remember the floor area, so that’s a bit of a minus. HOWEVER, the cleaning direction of the robot is very tightly out together—meaning, it does not seem to miss any surface it runs on and it turns itself into position to make sure it covers spots. It’s like when a half-asleep child wants to cuddle with you on a cold night and wants to make sure it snugs itself right beside you. That’s what this does to sides and corners. It presses itself onto those areas to make sure that area gets mopped. I like the fact that it figures out if its about to run over a carpet. So at least it does not mop the carpet wet. For what it is supposed to do, quick daily mopping, this one is a star. This robot saves my lady some mopping time at night. So, more time for Netflix.

First off, love the packaging on this! Everything is easy to get to and unpack, and all packing materials are recyclable. I know it's a minor thing, but it was nice to not wrestle with sealed plastic and twist-ties everywhere. Setup is very easy and involves plugging in the charger and setting the robot on it for a couple hours. Then download the app, scan the QR code (it's under the dirt cup) and the app helps set up everything. From there you can start/stop cleaning or set up a schedule through the app. I set it up in my dining room since there was an outlet and a few feed of clearance for the charging base. I started it up and it immediately went under the dining room table. I groaned because I was certain I would need to crawl under there to pull it out. It's a big table with 7 chairs around it. including the table legs you're looking at 32 obstacles. To my absolute shock and delight the SpinWave figured out how to navigate through the tight spaces (the chairs were all pulled it) by bouncing around and turning until everything had been covered. After about 10 minutes it came out the other side and started working on the area around the table. I did nothing to prep the area and there were some clumps of mulch or leaves dragged in from outside. It dutifully ate up all of the schmutz that I could see. While this isn't something for deep cleaning, it's perfect for between formal vacuuming. There are different strength settings. Medium is quieter than expected and works well. High makes more noise and reduces battery life, but I didn't see much benefit. Medium works just fine. I used the app to stop the cleaning early and send it back to the base. Curiously, it ended up retracing it's steps to go back to the charger, sending itself through the dining chair maze again, but it did get back and start charging all on it's own. Neat! The wet mopping is the same theory, except you change out the dirt cup with a water tank and spinning mop heads. It's really effective here picking up all of the dirt that got tracked in and sticky spots from dripping while making dinners. Cool thing is that if it gets to the carpet it figures out that's a wet-mop no-go zone and turns around. This little guy is impressively smart and is great for simple cleaning and pick-ups. I like that it can be scheduled, as I can have it do it's thing overnight while my cat is sleeping upstairs, as I don't think she would be too comfortable around it!

Poor navigation and unable to handle area rugs

I used the SpinWave to vacuum and clean vinyl and wood floors with two area rugs. One rug is about 2’ x 4’, the other larger at 5’ x 7’. The SpinWave navigation seems haphazard. It does not follow any pattern. After bumping into a wall or furniture it goes off at an extreme angle, where other bots move over and go parallel to the path it just cleaned. The effect is many areas are gone over multiple times, which is either inefficient or thorough depending on how you look at it. A robot vacuum should clean well after just one pass, especially on a hard floor, so lean toward finding it inefficient. I’m also not sure that it covers every area at least once. I first used the vacuum only bin. The SpinWave had problems with my area rugs. It pushed and bunched the smaller one up against the wall and did not clean the top of the rugs or the floor under where it was pushed up. The SpinWave bumped up to the larger rug in spots and backed off treating it as a wall or obstacle rather than going over and cleaning it. That is until it hit the corner and found itself under the larger rug where it became stuck, requiring an intervention to free it. The end result it that to use the SpinWave, I have to pick up the rugs. And of course vacuum the rugs with a standard vacuum, which does not relieve me of this cleaning chore. Without the rugs down, the spinning brushes cleaned right up to the edge of the baseboard. I especially liked that it cleans in places I do not get so well with a standard stick vacuum as often as I should, like under and behind furniture. The whole floor appeared clean, edges of the room and furniture included. With the spinning pads and fluid to clean the floor, the SpinWave did a good job. Not as good as a regular mop would do, but admirable considering how little liquid is actually used. But I did see some spots that were either missed by the erratic navigation, or perhaps did not get enough fluid to clean well. The cleaning pads have a thin nap. If you have tile floors with more of a texture and grout lines, I’m not sure these thin pads would get into the deeper areas of those floors. The SpinWave is quitter than a canister vacuum, but loud enough I needed to bump the TV volume up a bit o hear my TV over it. The SpinWave comes in a sturdy box that holds it and all of its accessories. With the robot and its base now on the floor, the large box is mostly empty. I would like to see a smaller box to hold the floor mopping part and spare pads/brushes when it’s not in use that I can more easily store. I thought the SpinWave would be efficient being able to both vacuum and mop in one pass. But that advantage is lost with its erratic navigation causing it go over areas multiple times while missing others. The end result was it vacuumed well and cleaned the floors reasonably well except where it missed, which stood out. It also did not handle area rugs well at all, greatly limiting its appeal for use on my main floor, where I will continue to use a standard vacuum Perhaps some future software update will improve upon the navigation. I don’t see a software update helping it with area rugs though. worked well there where its limitations are not a problem. Cleaning under the large beds is hard to do with a canister vacuum, so this vacuum does add value here. Friends have other floor bot brands that perform better with area rugs. However, they are vacuum only and cost more. This unit adds floor cleaning adding value and saving the space of having a second bot. For that the price is reasonable. If you don’t have thick area rugs, the SpinWave will help maintain your floors between deeper cleanings.

I didn’t think I would ever use a robot vacuum, but the SpinWave is a nice complement to a manual upright. Although it offers the double feature of a dry vacuum and moping abilities, I don’t feel it does either one perfectly. You can use the Bissell app to track your usage history and choose from 3 roller settings to adjust the pickup quality. However, every time I cleaned, I only used the ‘max’ setting and it still missed some crumbs here and there. I do like the ‘spin’ feature that will vacuum in small circles within about a 3 foot diameter. This comes in handy when the kids spill cereal or make a mess with chips. The mopping feature uses a combination of hot tap water and cleaning solution in a pull out canister. It is easy to swap between the two dry and wet canisters back and forth and the vacuum will automatically recognize it. In the mopping mode, it will dispense a moderate amount of solution but I wonder how much pressure it places onto the floor to get a deep clean. Best Buy sells different types of Bissell solutions and I decided on the ‘sanitize’ cleaner with hopes that will at least eliminate germs on the floors. Since the vacuum doesn’t map the rooms, you have to keep an eye on it to make sure it hits every location. It won’t end on its own and will keep going until you press the button twice to self-dock or end the cleaning using the app. Overall, I like the idea that I can have the house vacuumed and mopped while I do other things. However, I think the best option is to manually vacuum so you can be sure not to miss any areas or run over spots that need the extra cleaning. Then, use the robot vacuum to do a thorough mopping to sanitize the hard floors. This may be a good item for someone that is unable to manually vacuum with an upright or if you feel you just want to sit on the couch while your floor gets cleaned with little effort.
