Works great after some fixes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 2 weeks of running Bitdefender on my Windows 10 tower, it has been great, but one major issue happened after install. First, the program works smooth, not overpowering the CPU at all. Now, the features are top notch, with full cleanup options and optimizing. I found I had 43 gigs of wasted space on my computer, cleaning this out really helped a ton. I love how Bitdefender runs in the background and uses so little resources. It has caught many issues and attacks from everyday sites. The security you receive with online wallets is great, I had an attack caught when entering CC info at a major retailers site. Now, it is a great program, but after the install, I had to reinstall all my Windows office programs. I don't know what happened still, but after install, all office programs and the calculator would not open without error. Once I uninstalled and reinstalled the needed programs, all is fine. I highly recommend Bitdefender, just be ready for possible issues.

impressive PC product, mobile not so much
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using BitDefender 2018 Total Security on a few machines, one a virtual Windows 8.1, two Windows 10 and an Android tablet. For the most part the product has worked seamlessly except the Android version seems to have some glitches, navigation within a local TV news app where navigation no longer functions the same, and web video playback seems to stutter and buffer. I’ll know more with additional use, but so far it seems to be destined for an uninstall. This review will center around the PC version which seems to be pretty light on system resources and does not appear to have any real impact on a PC. The interface is much like others and you can access many of the functions from the main panel, with menu options along the left side of the application interface. The program took a long time to install, with much of it taken up by a prescan of your system. Once installed it takes a while to download updated virus definitions, subsequently the update process seems to be quicker. The real-time protection seems to perform well, with not much of a performance hit. System scans are not as quick as I have seen with other virus protection products. There is a password manager included, along with a file shredder. I have not yet had to explore some of the other configuration options, including application access or the firewall. This is a good thing as you can let the autopilot function do its thing, which basically lets you run the product with the default options. I do like that with this product includes a startup optimizer, which allows you to configure which programs run at startup, unlike other security products it does not require you to logout and login as an administrator when implementing these settings, it will just prompt you for elevated credentials. The Disk Cleanup utility is a little confusing, not sure how it operates as it does not appear to do the usual web browser and temp file cleanup as other security programs do. Again this will require more reading of the documentation to determine how this function operates. Autopilot mode seems to be a good option for most users as it takes away the need to get your hands dirty with configuration options. Overall I am happy with BitDefender 2018 Total Security and have yet ran into any infection issues. Pros: - fast realtime protection, minimal performance impact - nice interface - includes Mac, IOS and Android versions Cons: - not the fastest system scans - mobile versions not as impressive - installation could be quicker

Excellent protection, tedious management
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using Bitdefender across all of my devices for over a year and the protection it offers definitely lives up to its claims. I was originally recommended Bitdefender by a coworker who uses it on his computers at home and has not used any other security suite in years, which led me to give it a try by installing a trial on my main Windows desktop, then later buying a one-year subscription for 5 devices. The installation process is a breeze for all supported platforms and having it set up to automatically protect my machine was also very simple. Bitdefender's software has what's called "Autopilot" mode, which basically takes care of configuring all the optimal protection mechanisms for you. This comes at a slight disadvantage, however, because in my own experience, it tends to be quite strict on what certain applications you run on your machine. While some may say this isn't a bad thing as it's only doing its job by protecting your system as much as possible, the only complaint I have is that it's difficult to find the appropriate configuration pane to whitelist a particular file or directory from being quarantined. This means that every time I need to whitelist something, I have to take several steps to get this done when it shouldn't be so tedious and complicated to accomplish such a task. The software does an amazing job at keeping itself and its definitions updated regularly. Apart from having antivirus protection, it also protects against malware, ransomware, has a custom web browser that's recommended for use when accessing certain websites with sensitive private information (like finance and health), and with the new 2018 version, an added layer of security for your webcam to prevent it from being turned on without you knowing by an attacker. I own an incredibly powerful machine myself with top specs, so I've never noticed any slowdowns or speed problems from running Bitdefender on my machine at all times. That being said, I'm sure Bitdefender also optimizes itself to the specs of your machine so it doesn't interfere with your computer's overall performance. There are also certain modes you can enable when playing a video game, watching videos, or running productivity applications for work. While not perfect, Bitdefender is seriously one of the top security suites out on the market, and it's universal compatibility with PCs, Macs, Android phones and iPhones mean you can get peace of mind for all of your tech in just one package, for one price. You cannot go wrong in choosing Bitdefender for your digital security needs.

Easy to use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used a multitude of anti-virus software over the years and have never had any major issues (knock on wood). One of the problems with testing a product like this is you assume it's working (no viruses) until you discover it's not (viruses). I've had this installed for about two weeks over 4 different computers and so far, so good (with a little knock on wood, of course). In looking at major website reviews bitdefender is always near the top, but one thing all programs of this type seem to have in common is no software can block everything. They're usually graded on percentages and what happens when you visit known malware sites (which you should only do if you're a professional). I would never recommend having just one form of protection. I typically use the free malwarebytes program (at a minimum) along with any antivirus software. At this point so far bitdefender hasn't let anything through. It also says it has "ransomware" protection, but I honestly couldn't tell you how that differs from any other virus. Bitdefender is VERY easy to use and install, with only one small hiccup--like most programs of this type it will have you uninstall any other anti-virus software you have installed. The easiest part is when you have a multi-device account you can log in at any time, from any computer, and immediately install it on that device. You can check your system status at any time, run scans whenever you want, or just set it to "auto-pilot" and not worry about it again. For me the "game" mode has been the most vital, as I play a lot of online games and it's a hassle when a program won't let you connect, or tries to run while you're playing and slows down the action. I've had no troubles in game mode at all. I haven't tried "movie' mode, but I have tried "work" mode and have seen no issues there either. There are a couple of nice things this software adds that you can't typically find in free anti-software programs. The system clean-up is good, and the optimizer tools all seem very good (particularly the start-up optimizer, which improved my older laptop boot-time by half). The best part of this software is it's simplicity, and the fact that you can see your system status from anywhere when you log into your account. For easy to use and effective anti-virus software this a very good program.

Awesome Protector!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bitdefender is a robust protection anti-virus program that quietly controls your system but does not cause any interruptions in your normal work flow while on computer. The software was very easy to download and install. It does a great job of scanning your computer for viruses, malware, adware, trojans and the like. I was apprehensive that installing this software may cause lags or obtrusive interruptions, but to my surprise it has not slowed my computer down. I ran a speed test after installation, surprisingly my speeds were still performing at a high rate. I commend Bitdefender for the robust protection along with ease of usage when adding this product.

Complete Security Companion
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.User Interface: Bitdefender Total Security is straightforward and easy to navigate. I do not feel overwhelmed by the number of settings or features, and I like that there are tabs along the left side of the screen to categorize them. I primarily use the protection and tools tabs, but there is also privacy, activity, account info, settings, and support. Bitdefender did well incorporating many excellent features into Total Security while also keeping the interface user-friendly. Protection: Ever since I started using Bitdefender Total Security, I have felt more secure. Cyber threats continue to rise in number and severity, so it is nice to know that Bitdefender has my back. Total Security protects from a variety of threats, such as viruses, phishing, and ransomware, just to name a few. Bitdefender Total Security truly does provide total security from all angles. Other Features: Bitdefender Autopilot is one of my favorite features. Simply turn it on and security decisions are automatically made without annoying popups. I also like the tools that are available, like OneClick Optimizer, Startup Optimizer, Anti-Theft, and Disk Cleanup. I run these occasionally to keep my computer in top performing shape, and I do find that it helps. Not all security software also has performance tools built in, but Bitdefender gives you the best of both worlds. Verdict: If you are looking for complete security coverage that is unobtrusive and easy to use, then Bitdefender Total Security is for you. Should I ever face a cyber threat, I am confident that Bitdefender will be there to protect my computer, its data, and my privacy.

Don't go without some protection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wouldn’t go without at least a minimum anti-virus/malware software on any internet connected device and BitDefender does cover the basics of that for Windows, Android and Mac devices. This package allows for one purchase to be linked to multiple devices and with that allows you to use Anti-theft features from their website for your mobile devices. The Anti-Theft features are nice, but at the same time already a feature provided through most Google and all iCloud linked devices. However, Bitdefender, once set, allows you to use SMS text commands from a trusted phone number to perform location, lock, and wipe. For the PC one feature I felt is missing is firewall control. I had no option to control what specifically was communicating to the internet and when it did it, like a different product that would notify me of each communication until I trusted the program. On Android devices the Privacy Advisor does notify you if an application has permissions to access sensitive data, such as location and browsing history. However, the only option to help you restrict those application is to uninstall them. Additional features include VPN, which is powered by HotSpot Shield and limited unless you get a premium subscription. Applock allows you to require additional authentication to access specific apps, so for instance if you let someone use your phone, they would need an additional PIN to get into your locked apps, like email. Reports are basic numbers and gives a privacy rating based on what permissions applications have. Account Privacy is good for anyone that has not already checked through a free service to see if your emails have been compromised through a site breach. However, the down side to this is that once you configure it for your account, it is now displayed on every device that you have linked to Bitdefender. For instance, I have it set on my PC and cell phone, then set it up on my daughters iPhone. Now she can see that my email was compromised through multiple dating sites that she does not need to know my account was once registered to. As for the iPhone, Bitdefender is essentially useless and though I can’t prove it, I think it corrupted my phone. It requires additional permission, requires downloading of certificates and all kinds of things that you never typically do for an iPhone application only for it to allow you to use the Anti-Theft features, which iCloud already does, and the account privacy as mentioned above. Overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way to get Bitdefeneder over other security suites. However, when it is offered with the purchases of Best Buy products I wouldn’t turn it down and go without some sort of protection.

Posted .Hello-
I'm sorry to hear about your very negative experience with our install process. From your description it sounds like when you searched online for our website (while you were looking for our support contact information), your browser didn't direct you to Bitdefender.com and instead tried to route you to a "fake" website. In the past, we've received reports of this happening to other customers since that time have been working with Google/Bing etc. in an attempt to resolve.
Again I am so sorry that you've had this experience and we want to do everything possible to make this right for you. Please send me an email at bitsy@bitdefender.com we'll do our best to get Bitdefender up and running as soon as possible on your system.

Fantasic, low impact security suite, across Window
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am coming from being a loyal user of Kaspersky Internet Security of many years. After recent news reports, in the United States, and also in the United Kingdom, I decided to move away from Kaspersky, and moved on to try Bitdefender. As much as I liked Kaspersky, I like Bitdefender Total Security even more. Bitdefender seems to run on Windows 10 at least, as less of a system resource. I love how bitdefender works across not just your PC, but also forces you to make an online account, keeps track of your 5 licences, up to 5 total in my package, for Windows, Mac, Android, or iOS. As of date, I have it installed on both two PCs, and 1 android phone. The Android version runs really well too. Much better than the Android AVAST Security which also slowed my phone down. Bitdefender updated virus and threats on a daily basis. I also find that it blocks malicious website all the time. The one thing I wish it did in regards to malicious websites, which I have not seen, is be able to allow certain websites, or IP addresses that it flags as malicious, on an individual basis. The website defense is either “ON” or “OFF” and I have not yet found a way to allow certain URLs, or IP addresses to an “allow” list like MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, and Kaspersky Internet Security allow you to. If they added this, it would be even better! You can whitelist certain kinds of programs, like games, on the Windows portion, so you are not bogging your system down while playing games. Many other security suites do this, and I am very happy they do it as well. There is also a “SafeFile” feature which is great, for cordon off files from potential ransomware attacks. It protects your main documents folders in windows, but you can add more. Not sure if this would work or not in a real world scenario, but hey it is great to know it is there! There are so many features I could be here for days writing about them, but one really useful one, was it will scan your system, and even home network, for potential security issues, advise you what to do about them as well. For example, I always keep my Windows 10 system up to date, but BitDefender recently advised me I somehow missed a Windows Malicious software update from several months ago, told me about it, and had an option to update it. If you have kids, they also have a Parental Advisor which can block objectionable material and also how much time they spend on the internet. It cannot however block specific programs from running. Getting started you need to first make an online web account. You can then track all your installations thru their web interface, and do certain kinds of actions remotely too. The Windows and Android versions also, if you set it up, will track your missing laptop or android phone. I have yet to try this feature, but for me, the anrdoid version of this would be most valuable. Once you designate a secondary phone # in your account, you can do things like wipe your phone if you think someone has gotten your phone and you are afraid of them accessing your phone, and apps, etc. Overall, this is incredibly well thought out software!! Big THUMBS UP!!
