The Perfect As Needed Versatile WiFi Camera

Includes 2 “Outdoor 4” cameras, one Sync Module XR, 4 AA lithium metal batteries (the really nice ones), 2 mounting kits, one USB-C cable, and one power adapter. Does not come with MicroSD card. But supports up to 256 GB.
CAMERA 8/10:
The cameras themselves are small, feel well made, with weatherproofing, and I think what I like the most about them is that they take Double-A batteries. Which means, if they are low, you just swap them out and your back running again. No having the camera be down for a period while the rechargeable battery is getting juice. Can still get rechargeable Double A batteries as well so you aren’t just constantly buying batteries. I didn’t have enough time to test the battery life on these before posting this review. But I think that is a major reason to consider this guy. Can arm and disarm camera easily. And with it having batteries you can just remove them in case you are storing them for a bit. Which a lot of other cameras don’t give you the ability to do. Making it a great as needed wireless camera. Another main selling point.
PICTURE QUALITY 7/10:
As for the picture quality. It is solid. It isn’t great. Keep in mind it is 1080p and you can tell. Bit rate isn’t amazing. And goes down the further you go. Which is to be expected. But for the cost and especially for how far away they can be (400 feet max) is solid. The smart functions are fine. Mostly it is just motion detection but with a subscription you can get a few more features that fall behind the competition. Personally, I find the use case for this camera to be like watching a bird feeder, monitoring pets, or some edge of your yard or something like that. Instead of the main camera that is picking up people and doing serious work. They have three modes; one is like short range which gives you the best quality of recordings (as the camera itself doesn’t record I don’t think, it is sent to the Blink Sync Module XR). Then you have the option for XR mode which is 250 feet. Last, you have XR+ which is 400 feet. You can sync up to four cameras to each box. You are able to turn on or off the light on the camera so when it is recording it can be stealthy. Night vision was surprisingly excellent. No complaints on that end for close by objects. App itself is simple, straightforward, and user friendly.
SYNC MODULE XR 10/10:
The box itself is a bit bigger than the camera but slimmer. Some LEDs on it. USB-C for power. Rubber back to prevent slippage. No complaints.
STORAGE 10/10:
As for storage. You can back up locally to the Sync Module XR with a MicroSD card (up to 256 GB) which I really like. Meaning you don’t need a membership. Which is becoming increasingly rare in our lives. However, there is also the Blink Subscription Plan which includes cloud storage and some other neat features. Additionally, when you first setup the cameras it automatically starts a 30-day trial (without needing a credit card or anything) of their subscription plan. That I believe auto cancels itself assuming you didn’t put any card information in.
CONCLUSION 7/10:
In the end, this isn’t the best wireless camera I’ve owned. But it is the smallest, most convenient one. As swapping batteries is effortless. You can remove the cameras to turn off the device making it a perfect as needed wireless camera. Plus the range is way more than any of the others I’ve tried. By a significant margin. But the picture quality and other quality of life features aren’t as good as some of the competition. Which is to be expected at 1080p and for the size and weight. But for 1080p I thought the picture quality was where it should be for price to performance and is solid.

I was really looking forward to the expanded range the Blink Outdoor 4 XR Wireless security cameras claimed to provide. Unfortunately, my experience was poorer than I had expected.
The Good:
- The cameras and the sync module were very easy to set up and connected to my wireless network.
- The app is fairly intuitive which is good because the instructions were rather lacking in both content and continuity.
- Camera quality is excellent.
- Package comes with two cameras, a sync unit, and hardware for installation.
The Not-So-Good
- I was not able to use one of the cameras based range the Blink Outdoor 4 XR cameras claim to offer.
- I installed one of the cameras on my mailbox to monitor when mail is delivered. My mailbox is 240 feet from the sync unit.
- No matter where I put the camera (inside, on the top, below the mailbox itself), the sync module lost connection.
- I ran a test watching the live video on my phone while walking down my driveway. It seems to lose signal at about 100 feet, significantly less than the 400 feet claimed by Blink.
Overall, this was a disappointing product. I was able to relocate the "mailbox" camera to another place outside my home to get some use of out it, but the 400 foot claim just isn't the case.

Hello Winger81! Thank you for your honest review and feedback of your Blink Outdoor XR system. We appreciate any and all feedback while we strive to constantly improve upon our products and services. I am sorry to hear that you were unable to get more range than 100 feet from your module. It sounds like you had it set to use standard Wi-Fi range in the settings which would be about 100 feet. In order to get the maximum range, you would want to set the camera up in the settings within that range at first and then tap the More (3 dots) icon in the camera thumbnail. Then navigate to Device Settings>General Settings> Network. There you would select Camera Network and then select either XR range (up to 250 feet away at 720p or 360p resolution) or XR+ range (up to 400 feet away at 360p resolution). Then once it is set up, you would be able to put it out by your mailbox. If you have any trouble getting it working, you can also select to Contact Support in the Help Menu of the app to speak directly with Blink Customer Support. I hope this helps resolve your issue and improve your experience and again we thank you for your time. I hope you have an awesome day!

Very Happy with My Purchase

I already had several older model Blink Cameras install using an older Sync Module. I really thought that it would be a little difficult getting the new XR Sync Module to pair with the older cameras, but it picked them all up after I logged the XR into my internet Wi-Fi without issue. Also, the new cameras are a nice upgrade from the older ones with a further distance range. I’m still using all my older cameras and was able to install the newer ones at our storage buildings that is more than 250 ft from my house. The units are working great and has no problem giving us really good video being that far away. I’m very well pleased with this purchase and will probably be purchasing a few more of these newer models soon.

I had a specific use for getting this Blink Outdoor 4 XR kit. I have more signs of deer in our yard than we actually see, and I was curious what was all walking through. The surveillance camera brand I use is Wifi and my wifi doesn’t reach far enough into the yard for a reliable connection. The extended range of the Blink XR seemed like an option that might work.
The Blink XR setup was one of the quickest and easiest I’ve ever done. Install the app, add the sync module, add the cameras and pretty much done other than configurations you might want to change. Both cameras and the sync module needed firmware updates which happened automagically during the install.
The included mounting plates are simple and functional, but don't include any fasteners, which you’ll need and will vary on what you mount to.
After I had all installed I noticed one of my cameras was on wifi, and the other was on XR. I had to delete the camera and re-add it to get them both on XR.
My original plan was to have 1 camera on a tree 150’ away and the other at 375’ away, but I started with both cameras on XR (and they will need to be set the same, you can’t have one camera on XR and the other on XR+). I placed 1 camera at 150’ and the other at 100’. The 150’ camera basically was line of sight to the sync module through 1 exterior wall. The 100’ camera was line of sight to the sync module through a window.
Both cameras are functional and work at that distance but signal strength is low and quality isn’t great. (resolution goes down even more if you put them into XR+ mode). Based on my signal strength at the XR setting, I doubt the XR+ would give me the theoretical range listed.
With this setup I have received motion notifications and played back the clip and nothing is there. The night vision quality isn’t ‘great’ but it’s usable for my specific purpose. I wouldn’t expect to be able to identify a person at night in the XR or XR+ mode, but I can see the deer walking through. The trigger to record is also fairly slow. With a deer just walking across the frame of view, the video doesn’t start until the deer is almost out of frame. I understand this is a limit to running from battery, they probably have to set the motion polling rate low enough to give acceptable battery life. Just something you should be aware of.
There are smart motion detection settings, when enabled if a person walks past the camera the push notification to the app says “Person detected at XXXX camera”. The best I can tell, this smart motion detection for people and vehicles is part of a paid subscription that is free for 30days only.
Linking to Alexa was painless. In use, asking alexa to show you the XXX camera, only takes a second or 2 for the video feed to show up. Other brand cameras I’ve tried have taken up to 10 seconds. From the app you can do a live view from the cameras, but it will keep nagging you with a pop-up “continue?”, again I assume this is to help with battery life.
These Blink Outdoor 4 XR cameras and sync module are just average to mediocre. They are usable as long as you understand their limitations. I personally would never use these as a surveillance/security camera, but they are fine as a trail camera for me. I am going to give the average 3 stars. I’m also going to say I would recommend to a friend ONLY if I can tell my friend about the limitations I’ve listed above.

This is an amazing system. Easy to setup. App is great! My cameras are outside and give a clear picture. One camera is at least 300ft from the base, works perfectly.

Works great. Good deal too. Wifi connection and battery operated, makes use setup these anywhere we want. Great flexibility. I wish Blink comes up with 24/7 monitoring services. Bu otherwise these devices and range is good. Audio/Video is bit laggy sometime and low. XR could connect to only 2 devices. Only 1 XR allowed per home.

Blink Outdoor 4 cameras the way to go

We have had these cameras set up for a month and found it extremely easy to set up and install. The clarity of the picture and the sound is great, and the app is also easy to understand and navigate. We are puzzled by the cameras picking up motion for some things, like snow falling or trees rustling, but not other things, like a deer walking right in front of it. Or it picks things up late into the motion. I am chalking this up right now to the placement of the cameras so we will reposition them and test them after. All in all we are very happy with them and hope we correct the issues noted.

The Blink outdoor 4 system is a great starter kit for you when you are ready to give video monitoring at home a try. This is your jump start to explore wireless camera systems that are battery operated at 1080p HD and has a fairly good range of 250ft to 400ft due to the Sync Module XR. You'll receive a trial period for the enhanced security features of the system which is supported by Amazon.
Off the bat I do love the Sync Module XR for its slim and cute design. It is nearly the size of a tin of mints or a card wallet and uses a USB-C cord for power which is included with the device as well as the power block. The design is pleasing because it is has a white matte finish which will blend with your home easily.
On the other hand although the cameras are slim and aesthetically pleasing I can't get passed the video quality and the hardware to mount the cameras. The video quality is exactly 1080p and a little more grainy than I thought I would see. I have a current system where the video is 2K so I am having trouble fully letting it go. There is a disadvantage to being battery powered when it is not rechargeable. Lastly, the mounts are easy to remove. Meaning, someone could just simply reach up and pull the camera off the mount and render my system useless. I don't anticipate that happening but I do also have birds that perch on my patios and have historically chosen my cameras to sit on. I have this feeling that the Blink camera would fall off. I am working on finding the right spot to mount them.
In summary, the Blink Outdoor 4 system is great for your first time venturing into security systems, a college apartment, townhome or small property. Do not expect state of the art features but know you'll have a system that works to detect movement, with advance subscription services you will have access to more enhancements, it is easy to set up, no hardwiring or altering your homes electrical system and it's a great compact system. The compact and smaller system is what drew me to the Blink Outdoor 4 and I know you'll be just as pleased.

We purchased the Blink System plus 2 extra Outdoor Cameras for our home. They were easy to install and connect. We can clearly see our outdoor and garage area even at night. We did not need the doorbell or any inside cameras at this time, but might consider an indoor camera in the future. We did hardwire the garage camera since it was easy to reach an outlet used by the garage door. This will allow us to save any battery replacements for a while. It has only been installed since mid August, so we are unclear how often we will need to replace the batteries, but it should be easy to do. The help from our Best Buy Rep was invaluable.

So far I really like these cameras the picture is great and the ability to get them as far as they are is Awsome... I already have a wired system but wanted something wireless for the farther distant spots my other cameras can't see... also the deal at 164.99 was Awsome...only one major aggravation when trying to first get the XR module connected to the app it was a nightmare.... I tried over 20 times with resetting it but kept getting a bad data error I almost boxed the whole thing back up twice and almost took it back...... but after restarting my phone and deleting and reinstalling the app it finally connected to the app....

Poor Quality & Poor Connection Cameras

Upon unboxing the cameras, I put in the included double-A batteries and charged both with USB-C. On the box is a QR code that takes you to a website guide. Although it's like setting up any other smart device. Download the app. Scan the QR code of the product to pair with the app. Connect it to your WiFi. Pretty standard stuff. The included hardware is great too. The camera has a wide FOV, so even if it's not pointed at the coverage area, it will still be able to capture it. There is a pretty thick plug to protect the USB port from the elements. I will still most likely opt for a 90-degree mount and a waterproof case, regardless.
My biggest issue is the live feed from the devices. For some backstory, I have a 1 gig internet plan. In the areas where I put the cameras, my phone shows a WiFi signal of 2 bars. Never had Wifi issues with my phone where the cameras are. One camera has to try connecting to my network through two walls, and the other has to connect through three. I also have a lot of smart devices. I'm using a lot of devices on the 2.4GHz connection (bulbs, vacuums, other cameras, TVs, etc.). I was excited about the included Sync Module. It seemed you could choose either Wifi connection or connect to the module. You can. Unfortunately, the connection on the sync module is always poor. It always shows one bar for me. It was fine when the cameras were in the same room as it. But once you put one wall between it, the signal is terrible. If you try loading the live feed of the camera, good luck. It will show that it is trying to load and will eventually time out. The cameras might have luck in an environment with a long line of sight and less noise. I opted for the Wifi mode, but sometimes it will also fail to connect. To note, neither of the cameras is more than 50 feet from the device. I still get notifications that motion has been detected, but I worry now if there are minutes or hours where it struggles to connect, will it still notify me of motion?
My second biggest issue is the exposure on the cameras. I will attach photos in this review. I am going to cut out my license plate and the street view from the screenshots for privacy. So they won't be full screenshots. In one screenshot, there is a cat that walks along the sidewalk. The camera never detected it. Another brand of camera motion detected the cat, so I pulled up how it looks on my Blink. It makes sense that it could not see the black cat. It over-exposes the image, and most of my sidewalk is pitch-black. In the second screenshot, I am stepping out of my car. The bottom half is pitch black. I have a toolbox there. In some screenshots, you can see the toolbox, but in most instances, like this one, you cannot due to the exposure. So again, I worry, because of these dark areas, how many moments will it not notify me of motion?
I recommend that you do your research. These cameras are not for someone like me. You will need to be away from the city. You need long lines of sight with minimal obstacles. You will need to have lights on in areas where it can get dark.

I purchased these when they went on sale and wow. These cameras are amazing. The distance they can reach is shocking and the clarity is amazing, at night these things have such a good sensor that it nearly looks like day light outside! The battery life isn’t close to what they list it at if you are in a high traffic area like I am since I live in the city. BUT you can hard wire them as well, so with that said 5/5.. grab them while there's a sale/holiday

I have 4 of these covering outside and it picks up literally EVERY THING! From the sound quality both ways too video quality. Can deffenatly say it can visually clear 2 acers but keep in mind the farther the sight the less quality, can still clearly see at-least a acer out. Will be buying more soon!!!

Works very well. Clear quality and easy setup. My only gripe is it doesn't pick up motion detection through a window. I tried to sit one camera inside window aimed outside and it doesn't pick up any motion detection, but it does pick up if I mount it outside.

Set up was super easy and very clear. I put up all the cameras in under two hours. It only took that long because of where I chose to put them. Great image quality and I love how you can either subscribe or have local storage. It’s also nice to not have to enter payment information for the 30 day free trial.
