Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the easy installation, video quality, affordability, and security features of the Smart Wifi Video Doorbell. They appreciate the dependable motion detection and night vision capabilities, as well as the convenience of the sync module. However, some users have concerns about battery life, the need for a subscription for continuous recordings, a slight delay in performance, connectivity issues, and the lack of a live view feature at all times.

FYI: 1) I do not use Alexa or other in-home Smarthome products, so I cannot comment on the usefulness of syncing with those devices. My review is purely from a Video Doorbell standpoint sending to my mobile device. 2) I do not have a pre existing wired doorbell and therefore used the wireless option. The attractive price of the Blink Doorbell + Sync Module 2 is not without its praise. Understand this is not a high-end Wireless/Wired Video Doorbell, but it's also not some cheap holiday season tech either. Blink has been slowly building its reputation for their security cameras and this setup definitely opens up the possibility for easy expansion with “good-enough” quality for your needs. Also, you need to know that some of the features are locked behind a pay-wall (ie. subscription). Out-of-the-box, you can hook this up, sans subscription and get a basic home surveillance setup with this Doorbell and Blink’s Outdoor/Indoor cameras. It is a compelling offer, with some limitations, but I cannot deny the cost-to-value is quite high considering the buy in. The biggest limitation is access to the stored clips, while feasible without a subscription, but definitely not a quick operation. However, the subscription plan is stupid cheap and should be a serious consideration depending on your needs. As a video doorbell with basic features, it is fine, and will get the job done showing you who is at your door and what they want. Saving clips/images is where it gets down to the differences between the cloud subscription and the local storage via the Sync Module 2. I’m not going to hash that out Blink lays all that out in their FAQ’s. So, be an informed consumer and see if works for you. I do have some Pro Tips about the device installation I mention and some specs that are not so apparent, but overall I can recommend this setup and I myself am seriously considering expanding the setup. -Setup: This is not apparent, but you need to setup the Sync Module 2 first with this setup. IF the Sync Module 2 will not connect to your network, most likely it is because your password has special characters !-@-$: etc. (READ THIS)The current firmware CANNOT use these characters and it will fail to connect. The newest firmware fixes this, but you cannot update the device until it is connected to a network. A few options you have at this point...1) Change your router password temporarily (who wants to update all their connected devices?) until it is updated 2) Create a Guest Network without those special characters in the password (my choice) or 3) Use your phone's Mobile Hotspot to set up. Once the firmware is updated, you can then change the Wi-Fi Network the Sync Module 2 uses and continue setup of the Video Doorbell. -Local Storage is best formatted for exFAT for Windows and is a must for MacOS. 256GB is the max storage size (I would not use an external HDD. Possibly an SSD would be fine, but Flash Drive is in all the literature). 256GB is WAY more than enough for the max 10 devices the Sync Module 2 can handle, so for just a Doorbell, it would take forever to fill up. FAT32 will work, but I did notice that in the Blink App there was not a tab for it in the Clip View, Cloud was the only option. I reformatted to NTFS and when I reinserted the Flash Drive to the Sync Module 2 the Blink App asked to Format Drive...which it defaults to exFAT (no option given in the app). The Local tab in the Clip View was now present. -Installation: Attaching the doorbell to the mount...sucks. The waterproofing membrane keeps the device from sliding so it requires some force to slide it into place. The “click” sound also does not offer much confidence in your achievement, so it can make you think it is not attached. However, when it is...it is. There is no stealing this thing without a hammer or similar tool required to dismount it from the mounting bracket. -Documentation: it was a little underwhelming how little info there was in the box that was needed to get started. Even the Quick Start Guide was nothing of the sort, rather the “Use and Limitations”. There are some printed instructions on the inside packaging cover for App download instructions, then the rest of the setup process is via the App. -Camera/Audio Quality: Specs say 1080P...maybe because that is what all the cool kids are doing these days? Sure doesn’t feel like it though. Downloaded quality the file is 1280x720 at 24 frames per second. Not bad quality, just not sure where the 1080P comes into play there. I did find that the camera is a bit picky on the lighting scene. Too much sun and it washes out too little sun and the face is too dark. Night Vision with a door light on, washes out the face too. Audio for the guest is great quality with no feedback. On my end, it wasn’t the best and the lag is pretty bad. Thankfully you don’t have to hold down the button for two-way audio, just don’t look at the vide when trying to have a conversation. I found this was the same no matter if I was on my network or I was away from home on LTE/5G Cellular. What is hard to get access to though is Camera Snapshots. I still cannot find where they go. -Motion Detection: Having Zoning capabilities and even privacy settings are huge for such a value product. There are plenty of settings to dial in your camera for your location and get the alerts you care about. -Subscription: In order to use a subscription plan, it is required to link to your Amazon account. You do not have to link to your Amazon for local storage only. You are given this option upon setup. In no way is this setup perfect. It has some software glitches and some hoops to jump through. The Blink App is simple and easy to navigate, but at the end of the day it does work. I found the App Alerts to be very quick and the time to access the Live View was pretty quick, so no complaints there. I keep going back to the value of this system and have to stress that while the image quality is not the same of higher end products (build quality is excellent) the buy in price and feature set it offers all while giving a local storage option cannot be overlooked. I can easily recommend this product for your needs. My 3 Star rating is due to the not quite 1080P claim, hoops to setup out-of-the-box with the password requirements, and the lag in audio on user end, and why is it so hard to find the Photo Snapshots (videos are easy to find) and so included with this last gripe, instruction set could be better.

Out of the box this looks like a great video doorbell. Instructions say the doorbell will work wired or on battery. They also state the doorbell will work with your existing wired chime. However, I found this was not the case. It need 16V to power with the wires, and I have 24v at the connection and it still says it will have to work on battery and cannot work wired. Also, while connected to the wires, it constantly sounded my wired chime and would not stop. Camera has good video resolution but will not always catch what is going by as it seems to be delayed in recording when triggered. Overall serves the purpose, but wish it didn't have the issues we have encountered.

I bought this doorbell when I lived in a not so great apartment complex. It was very good at differentiating people versus the stray cats that free roamed the complex. I changed the batteries twice in a year but for how often my neighbors walked in front of my door I can’t really complain about that. The video quality was clear but it did pick up a lot of background noise with the recordings.

First, the promotional price is great for both the doorbell and sync module. The sync module not only allows you to tether numerous cameras together, but also allows you to store video locally, eliminating the need for a subscription. You should know, though, that you can not view the video remotely. You have to take out the flash drive and view it on a computer or other device. The performance of the doorbell is somewhat disappointing. We had to move our router to about 10 feet away from the device to get reasonably consistent performance. The camera seems to work fine, other than there being a several second delay between the doorbell and the device I am viewing it on. Not much of a problem except when you are trying to use the two way communication. Also, it seems as though the door bell does not chime on my phone or give me notifications if the bell is rung again within a few minutes. It does take video within this time frame, though. Installation is pretty straight forward. Gets a little trickier if you try to merge it with Alexa. There is almost no instructional help with that. In general, it does work, if not real well, but you can't beat the price for an entry level security system.

Let's start with the good. The doorbell was a breeze to install as powered and I set one up at my parent's as battery and it was effortless. The app and network settings were seamless. The quality of video and audio are more than what I expected at this price range. You can save video to a usb drive and no subscription to do so. That previous is what sold me originally. The only issues I had are setting multiple users is a pain, only one person at a time can access the camera (reminds me of my brothers and I running for the phone as kids) and lastly it does not work as well with the echo screens as I expected.

A Decent Smart Doorbell Option: Blink Smart WiFi D

The Blink Smart WiFi Doorbell provides a decent entry into the world of smart doorbells, but it falls short in some key areas. While it offers some useful features, it lacks the polish and reliability that I had hoped for in a smart home device. On the positive side, the installation process was relatively straightforward. The included instructions were clear, and I was able to set up the doorbell without much hassle. The integration with the Blink app was also seamless, allowing me to easily access the doorbell's features and settings. The video quality of the Blink Smart WiFi Doorbell is adequate. It provides a clear view of the front door area, and the wide-angle lens captures a decent field of view. However, I noticed some inconsistency in video streaming, with occasional delays and buffering. This can be frustrating when trying to quickly see who is at the door. One of the disappointments with this doorbell is the lack of advanced features. Unlike some other smart doorbell options on the market, the Blink doorbell lacks features like facial recognition, customizable motion detection zones, or two-way audio communication. These additional features would have greatly enhanced the overall functionality and user experience. Another area where the Blink doorbell falls short is the responsiveness of the mobile app. There were instances when I experienced delays in receiving notifications or accessing the live view. This inconsistency can be a significant drawback when you rely on the doorbell for security purposes. Additionally, the build quality of the doorbell could be improved. It feels a bit flimsy and lacks the sturdiness I expected from a device that is exposed to the elements. It would be beneficial to have a more durable construction that can withstand various weather conditions. On the positive side, the Blink Smart WiFi Doorbell does offer basic features like motion detection and cloud storage for recorded videos. The ability to review past events is useful, especially for monitoring any activity at the doorstep. In summary, the Blink Smart WiFi Doorbell is a decent entry-l

So glad I got one. The videos are surprisingly good and in color. The price is cheap enough for most people. Only issues I've had are connectivity every so often. I have to remove and reinstall the sd card on the app to reconnect. Changing the battery, the clips break easily but I bought a protective case this fits in so I didn't have to throw it away. Customer service will replace the bracket so they are good but if the clip is broken on the unit (as is my case) the bracket is useless. The case solved that problem altogether and makes changing the batteries easier. I've had this for over a year and the original batteries lasted a long time but now it constantly shows a weak battery warning on the app. I've changed the batteries quite a few times with different brands but this is just something I've learned to live with. All and all I'm satisfied and happy that I can see activity in front of the house when I'm not there. I can't compare it to other similar devices as this is the only one I've ever had and it seems to do the trick at a good price point.

Great addition to the smart home. Fast and easy set up with the Sync module and doorbell. The angle mount was included with this package as a nice Surprise. Sadly, my original Nutone doorbell system voltage wasn't compatible, but used a few of my Echo's to alert/chime instead. Fine tuning the proper field of vision and alert sensitivity. Added a USB micro drive for storage once the free online coverage expires so I don't have a monthly fee. I found this to be the best value and performance product balance for me. No short comings so far.
