Tortured Husband Meets Wrath of Wives Dead & Alive
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 2020 remake of Noel Coward's 1945 film is a classic. I first saw Blithe Spirit in an excellent, sidesplittingly funny Arena Stage performance. It all starts with great playwriting and Noel Coward did comedy extremely well. Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) plays the writer who has writer's block and is the manipulated spouse of Isla Fisher. Enter the first wife Elvira played by Leslie Mann, who though dead, has been called back to create marital havoc by mystic Madam Arcati played with panache by Judi Dench. Whether you see this production on the stage or in the 1945 or 2020 film productions, the special effects aid and abet the humor--and Elvira's mischief. The 2020 film has high production values in all categories. The screenplay ending was altered slightly from the original play, but not to the detriment of the romantic comedy storyline. This is a fun romp with superb actors. Comedy doesn't get any better than this.

THIS BLITHE SPIRIT IS A FUNNY WONDERFUL DELIGHT
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.BLITHE SPIRIT is rollicking fun and a delightful take on Noel Coward's classic play and former film adaptations. Every actor is at their performance best, but Just Dench steels all as Madame Arcati.
