I'm an audiophile/classical pianist but never bothered with any recording stuff so this was a 'first go'. Originally, I was considering the yeti because it was in my face all over the web and seemed super easy, but I decided that for my application, I was better off with a large diaphram condenser. I have since discovered a few large diaphram condensers that are USB and may be returning this for one of those, but the sound quality is definitely pretty decent. It isnt a studio recording, but considering I have 1 mic, free software, and a 100 year old baby grand piano, I am quite satisfied. You'll need to budget at least another $100 for the mount and audio interface. If you're as new as I was, heres what you need to know: this is a very sensitive microphone-the kind you'll want for music. It requires power to the mic, though, so you will need 'phantom power'. Easiest thing to do is to get an audio interface-any decent one will be fine. I got the UM-2 because there was a used one on amazon for $25 and its perfect.
The blue boom arm is ridiculously priced and tiny. Don't get it.

You have to get extra stuff to set this up but the mic quality is worth it. You will need a boom arm and audio interface as well as to get the XLR cable seperately. That's about my only complaint with it though.

I got this microphone when finally moving to an XLR setup and while daunting to figure out the required equipment to get along with it, the microphone itself is very easy to get set up and tune.

Excellent quality Mic. I think i did a little bit of an overkill for my first mic for streaming, but the quality is great. Only thing that I must put out there is that the mic does not come with an XLR cable. In fact, my best buy store doesnt sell the XLR cables at all. I had to drive to a local music store to purchase all additional items needed for this mic to work for my PC. But overall satisfied with my purchase.

Know that you will have to get a mixer in order to use this with a pc if you're getting it for chatting while gaming. It also does not come with an xlr cable, just the mic ad mount. The sound quality is a big improvement from my previous headset mic.

This is an excellent mic, particularly when paired with a boom arm like the Compass. It comes with a shock mount as well, and it looks great on camera and produces a warm sound. There are so many mic options out there, do yourself a favor and spend some time researching on YouTube before buying, but this one did the trick for me.

This is my first XLR Condenser Microphone. I have a HyperX Quadcast USB Condenser Mic that did extremely well for 2 years. As a streamer though, many said a XLR Condenser mic was the way to go. But I didn't want to spend around $500 on a GoXLR. Then the Wave XLR came along and I decided to go all in. When I was purchasing a Wave XLR, I was shopping for a XLR Mic. Blue has awesome looking mics and their reputation for audio quality is high. I didn't see the need for the baby bottle or hummingbird, however the Spark and Bluebird intrigued me the most for stream and video call usage. The Spark SL seemed fitting for what I was going to use it for. This Blackout Spark SL sounds amazing! I can't image what the higher tier mics sound like. The sound quality is detailed and I sound way better on my Stream!

So far, the setup was easy and simple with the included shock mount. Sound quality is near flawless when paired with my focusrite scarlett solo. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to go with a decent XLR setup.

Incredible mic, people are always asking me about it because it sounds amazing. Software is doing a lot of work though too, but the switch for -20db has been nice!

The Blue Blackout Spark SL is pretty impressive. Here is my rundown. Hope it’s helpful to someone.
First off, the packaging. This mic comes with a custom wooden case with a foam insert. Is it necessary, probably not? But is it dope looking? Yup. It would have been nice if the wooden case were large enough to hold the shock mount, but it’s not a big deal.
So, what’s in the box? You get the mic, custom wooden case, and a shock mount. That’s it. You might notice that an XLR cable is conspicuously missing from this list. That’s because you don’t get one. Don’t forget to pick up a cable. I do think the XLR cable quality matters. You will have cleaner sound if you get a decent shielded cable. Keep in mind that this mic also requires 48v phantom power. If you don’t already have a mixer, audio interface, or some other way to power the mic, you will need to pick something up separately.
I’m using this mic as part of my music recording setup. Nothing fancy, I have a small 12 channel mixer that is connected to my computer via USB. I have separate instrument mics set up to capture instrumental tracks. I’m using the Blackout to capture my vocals. I have it on a boom mic stand in the shock mount.
It took me a while to get the balance right vs my instrumental mics on my mixer, but once I got it set, it came together nicely. This wouldn’t really be an issue if I had a mixer that could handle all of my inputs on separate tracks, but since some of my channels are grouped, I have to manually balance that group output so that it come through nicely to the DAW software on my computer. Again, it’s totally doable, but it takes some tweaking to get a good balance. I’m probably going to realign my groups…put more instruments in a group and try to keep my vocals separate in the DAW so I can do a little more post processing. I’m looking forward to upgrading my mixer, but for now, this is what I’ve got to work with.
I love the sound I’m capturing with this mic. It’s clean. I can add effects from my mixer in front of the capture, or after using my DAW software. I generally record it pretty clean and add effects later. It has a 100hz high pass filter switch on it. I have not needed it, but it’s nice to know it’s there. I do use the -20db pad. I like how it keeps my voice clear and crisp as advertised. It is sensitive. I think it would sound even better if I had some acoustic panels, but alas...I do not…someday…
The mic looks awesome. It is aesthetically very pleasing to the eye, especially in the shock mount hanging from my boom stand. I will say that it has a little weight to it, so make sure you have a stand that can handle the weight. The switches on the side feel like they would be easy to break, so I’d recommend being careful with them. Don’t grab them when you are screwing on the shock mount and flip them gently when you need them…they don’t take much pressure to move.
So ya, there you go. It looks great and it sounds great. I think it’s a fantastic mid-tier mic for vocals. It would probably work well for other applications as well, but I haven’t testing it with anything other than music vocals. The wooden case is dope. Just remember you need phantom power, a decent XLR cable, and a stand that can handle the weight. I don’t think you will be disappointed with the quality and performance of this mic.
