There’s an optional outer cloth filter that also hides the power cable. The filter is easy to change with a simple two button release. It does take up a bit of space, being about as big as an end table. The purifier has an auto sensor that will detect the air quality and adjust the speed. It usually remains at the low setting and will sometimes kick up to medium if the AC turns on. It really cranks it to max whenever it detects smoke from when I’m cooking across the house. At low it’s quiet enough to not disturb sleep. At normal, it’s about as loud as a fan. You can hear it if the room is quiet, but if there’s background noise, it’s fine. At the highest speed, it can get a bit noisy, about as loud as my AC. It moves a good amount of air. In the 20x20 room, you can feel the air being blown out. When on, the room will have a sanitized smell. It could be because it’s new or maybe the air is cleansed of particles, I’m not sure. So far, I’ve had it for a week and have left it on most of the time. It seems to be working well. It’s quiet at low speeds, circulates a good amount of air, and the filter should last about 6 months. So hopefully this will help with dust and irritants in the house.

The problem is that it has been documented to increase ozone and could therefore increase the formation of airborne toxins. Avoid! I wish I would have!

Posted .Hi Alex! All Blueair air purifiers are CARB certified which means that they are considered safe and do not exceed ozone emission limits. Blueair has conducted ongoing independent testing to ensure that our air purifiers do not release harmful levels of ozone. Our units are tested in accordance with UL Standard 867 and demonstrate ozone emission levels far below the mandated California Air Resource Board (CARB) ozone emissions limit of less than 50 parts per billion (ppb).
Tested at Intertek, a CARB-accredited test lab, Blueair products undergo a comprehensive series of tests to measure ozone emissions. In these eight-hour-long tests, air purifiers are tested on high and low speed – with and without filters installed. The Intertek facility features environmental chamber technology, using trusted and proven scientific methods available for testing to verify if products produce ozone.

I like how it takes in air from all sides. Does this make a noticeable difference than models that don't? I don't know but it seems like it should.

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.-The auto and night mode are useless, it hardly works when on these modes -You have to run it at medium mode to do anything problem being it is incredibly loud on medium/high -I bought it to get rid of cat hair, Im running it in a 150 square feet room, It has helped but has not completely eradicated the issue. Considering its rated for 550 square feet that pretty disappointing, I bought the huge one specifically for this reason -I paid 50 extra for an auto mode which turns out to be negligible/useless -Considering what competitors are charging the price is fine

Please note that the 211+ Auto's sensor is designed to detect abrupt spikes of particulate matter in the air surrounding the purifier, so that it can quickly self-adjust the speed and proactively remove airborne pollutants from the air before they have a chance to settle on surfaces. Additionally, your Blue Pure 211+ Auto should be capturing significant levels of pollutants, including pet hair and dander, and has been tested and third party certified to do so. However, an air purifier is not capable of capturing everything, such as cat hair that has settled on a surface before it could be pulled in by the fan intake. We would still recommend routine vacuuming in addition to running the purifier.
