Blue Pure 411i Max is an air purifier for home use. It looks very futuristic. To me it looks like a big version of the cylinder Mac computer. The set up is very easy if you follow the directions from the booklet carefully. You could control this machine remotely with your phone by downloading an app (and connected to your phone after you have created an account.) It's pretty customizable – you can even control how bright the little LCD light is in case you want your room at night to be completely dark. Even at the highest speed setting, the fan noise is not that loud – substantially more quiet and the other machine that I have. But if you choose not to connected to your telephone, you simply turn it on and adjust the speed that you want. In time, the filter will have to be replaced and the little LCD will tell you so. When you remove the filter, twist the top part which includes the fan (unplug it first), and lift it straight up. The manual isn't clear here – the cost cover slides down like a sock (seriously.). This part can be washed when it gets dusty because the air is absorbed through it. But the filter inside which is pretty massive – bigger than an intake car filter, has to be removed (it can be dusted, but eventually you will want to replace it if it gets very old.) The machine will tell you the life of the filter as it continuously measures the air quality (and it even shows on the graph on your phone.) The machine can also be set in automatic mode, as well. I just set mine at level II and the air seems to be a little cleaner. I looked at the filter after about a week and there is a lot of dust on it. (This is how I can tell it works). The replacement filter itself looks like a cylinder and it cost about USD30 to replace but it should last a long time. Be sure you get the right model. This one is called F4Max filter. There isn't much else to do with a machine like this. I just simply leave it on all day long and I don't even notice that it is there. Honestly my small apartment – the air isn't dirty because I don't smoke so I'm not sure how much the air is cleaner but I certainly, like I said, noticed dust after running it for about one week. It is something that is useful but most people may not be aware that they would actually need it until they have been running for a while because dust in the air is not really that visible especially if you keep your apartment clean.

This air purifier generally works well, and is mostly very quiet. The issue we are having is that at times it makes a rattling vibration noise. Haven't been able to determine the exact cause of the noise. Removing and reinstalling the top part of the unit stops the noise for a while, but then it happens again for no apparent reason. The unit is never moved or touched except when the noise occurs. All control changes are handled remotely thru the app. Hope this is just a bad unit and will try exchanging for another.

Not sure about the fabric being a filtration layer

Not impressed with the fabric being a filter. Not sure if whatever particles could potentially be on outer fabric possibly being knocked off into the air due to children or animals maybe touching or rubbing up against it. This is not the case for me or everyone. Just not comfortable with the possibility in a person with severe allergies to dust, etc. Will have to do more research, however, returning due to my need of having a filtration system immediately that is not questionable off the bat.

I had this purifier for over a year. Loved it, but realized it has one MAJOR flaw. It is ionizing, and while "testing" says the amount of ozone it produces is within legal limits, any extra ozone in the house is not good. I used to get weird headaches after cooking on the stove. I would also notice the particle count being very high as expected with smoke in the house. Well since I switched to a non ionizing filter, no more headaches. If they had put an option somewhere on here to turn off the ionizer, I would have kept it. Since there is NO way to turn it off, I was forced to exchange it for a different brand. Do your own research, make your own decisions, but I will never buy a filter with an ionizer I can't turn off again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad to hear that you loved your 411i Max for over a year! We always appreciate suggestions to help improve our products and we will be passing along your feedback regarding a switch for the ionizer to our team. We want to highlight that our air purifiers have been third-party tested for their ability to reduce ozone concentrations in indoor air. The results show that ozone concentrations in the air, directly after passing through our air purifiers with HEPASilent™ technology, are lower than the ozone concentrations in the surrounding air. If you have any further questions about our purifiers, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team and we would be happy to help! blueair

This unit is the perfect size for bedrooms or smaller places. It ready to go right out of the box with the filter installed and no packing material to remove. There is one button on top that controls the speed from auto, sleep and up to the highest setting of 4. Settings 1 - 3 are very quite and only slightly loud on highest. I actually prefer the highest setting to give a nice humming sound while sleeping. You have the option to download the mobile application and connect it to your home WiFi network. Setup is rather simple, you will just need to make sure the device your are using to connect with is on the same 2G network as the one your setting up. Like most such devices, it will only work on the 2G band and you may experience some issues if your wireless router is set to load balance your network across all available wireless bands. Once connected, the app clearly shows your air quality and allows you to control the settings. The lights can be dimmed if desired for night-time use. It tells you the filter life percentage and replacement filters can be ordered directly from Blueair on the app. Filters are rather cheap compared to some other comparable units. The design of the device is rather unique in that the entire body is the filter. The top portion is screwed only a frame and the filter slides over the frame. The filter has the standard Hepa, as well as a carbon filter for removal of smells. My only concern with filter replacement is that you have to remove the outer cloth pre-filter when replacing and the cloth can be washed. I'm not sure how I like dust collecting on the outside of the device but it is not very noticeable with texture and color of the cloth. Overall it is moving air well and my bedroom smells much fresher. If you don't mind the extra maintenance steps, this is a really great filter.

This air purifier is nice looking and works great. It's ready out of the box and the app is easy to get started. It connected with no problem. Just plug it in and it's ready to connect. While it can be used without the app, there is much information about the air quality you wouldn't see. You can set a schedule for it if you prefer or let it run on automatic, or any fan speed you like. I have mine running on automatic. It is so silent that without the led indicators I wouldn't know it's running most of the time. But when it there is something in the air that it detects, you can hear the fan pick up speed cleaning the air. Even with the fan running on high, it's not that loud. The led indicator lights can be lowered or even turned off at night through the app so they don't bother you as you sleep. There is a filter life indicator in the app to know when the filter needs to be replaced. No guessing whether it's still effective or not. It's light enough to be moved around wherever it's needed.

I had the 411 Auto and i loved it. It was silent when needed and even the higher settings was never loud. I decided to upgrade to this unit and it is LOUD i thought it was broken how loud the silent setting is. Kind of like a loose fan sound. And apparently that’s normal for this unit. Maybe ill get use to it soon

This is what a purifier is supposed to be: sleek yet effective. I had purifiers that can cover the same area but are noisy and looks like an air fryer. This one looks beautiful, reliable and very quiet. It is everything I need in an air purifier. It's practically plug and play, but connecting to the app helps track actual air quality. So out of the box, I plugged it in, installed the app and connected it. It is up and running in 15 minutes (took me a little longer because adding it froze my app for a second, but I don't think it was a app concern). It is surprisingly quiet and it nicely fits in a corner. It does get your attention though when you need it like the indicator light turned to red the other day. I was wondering what it could be. Then I looked at the app and it said that the air was polluted. Of course I won't notice the smell because it is food, but it was right, I did leave the bedroom door open while cooking, so the air quality is bad. I however had to switch the fan to auto, and the fan came up to take the impurities out. In ten minutes, the air is clean and fan speed is back to normal. The fan is on auto now, something which I should have done from the start, so it can adjust when needed. This air purifier makes me feel confident that our baby will be breathing clean air. Aesthetics, ease-of-use, functionality, trust in the device --- all 10s. I recommend!

    Useful Smart Upgrades

We have 2 of the larger, original 211 air filters that we use for our first floor. The original models didn't come with the smart features that are now offered. It's a shame, because I've found these new smart features to be very useful. We use the 411i Max in our bedroom and it's great that it has an automatic mode. It runs virtually silent most of the time, but every now and then we can definitely hear when it cranks up to accommodate for the times when the air has a higher volume of pollutants/allergens. I like that the app can tell you the allergen level at the time the filter is running. It also keeps track of the life of the filter. They suggest you replace the filter every 6 months, but I believe that may be overkill if the filter is being used in a room that doesn't get that dirty. With the tracking, we can ensure that we replace the filter when needed, not necessarily in a specific timeframe. That works better for us with this filter because our bedroom won't need to be replaced as often as the larger units on our first floor.

Minimalistic looks hide all the bells and whistles

Air purifiers, as a rule, don’t aim to stand out. And Blue’s design teams appears to have taken this to heart with the Pure 411i Max. With its minimalist looks and muted color palate it would be very easy for someone seeing it in your home to mistake it for a large speaker or subwoofer, assuming they noticed it at all. Beneath that clean exterior though is a surprisingly sophisticated system for keeping your air clean and your allergies in check, albeit with a little room left for future improvements. There really isn’t too much I can say about the appearance of the unit that isn’t clear just from looking at pictures. The design is very modern, embracing Swedish minimalism and modernity. One thing that did catch me off guard when unpacking it though is that unlike the last Blue filter I owned, which had the filter unit itself sitting behind a plastic cage, the 411i Max moves the filter to the outside. On the one hand this does mean there’s more square footage available for the filter, which seems like it should help improve performance somewhat. On the other hand, it does mean that the pleated HEPA filter is now more or less unprotected from any pets, small children, or wayward robotic appliances that might happen to run into it. In my case I’m placing it in a more or less isolated alcove behind my dog’s crate, as he's the main source of dust and allergens I’m looking to remove anyway, so I’m not exceptionally concerned about anything hitting it. If you have a home where anything sitting out on the floor is likely to be run into by something or someone, you may want to do the same. Once you’ve found a spot for it, getting it up and running is just a question of tapping the relevant icons on the top until you’ve got the fan set to the speed you want. In keeping with the overall look there are no tactile interfaces here to break up the clean lines or potentially trap dust, so keeping it clean is fairly easy. But the real functionality of this unit comes when you pair it to the Blue app on your phone and get it connected to your home’s WiFi. This unlocks the ability to do real time air quality monitoring, schedules, geofenced activation, and control the brightness of the LED used to indicate current air quality. While I can’t say any of these are truly essential features, they do offer a lot of opportunities to fine tune your usage to extend the lifespan of your filters and control noise. In my case, I got it set up so that every time I get within 15 minutes of my home the purifier ramps up the fan speed to max for as long as it takes to reach the highest level of air quality, then have it throttle back down to lower speeds when I’m actually at home. The result is that I rarely ever hear a peep out of the thing while I’m at home. Normally I’d probably be running it 24/7 at medium speed, at which point it does make enough noise to have its presence known, but this smarter approach means I don’t need to worry about leaving it to chug away at low speeds. I found the app itself to be built along similar lines to the filter. There are options for you to name and control multiple smart purifiers if you have them, a map showing you real time updates on air quality (though, at least where I live, it doesn’t seem to shift much at all,) and a graph showing local particulate levels based on the air quality sensor within the purifier. There are also the obligatory links to help you order new filters (available with a subscription if you don’t want to think about it) and all the physical controls on the unit are replicated as well to allow remote control. One mark against it is that, at least so far, I haven’t found anything to indicate it can be connected to an existing smart home management system for centralized control, but it seems like this is a feature that could potentially be integrated if there proves to be enough demand for it from customers. Ultimately, I would consider this to be somewhat a niche product for the simple fact that a smart air purifier isn’t really something anyone desperately needs in their day to day life. But it’s a niche product done very well, and its excesses do add real value here even if it’s mostly focused on alleviating minor annoyances and inconveniences. As such I have no issue recommending it to anyone who has a history of allergy problems but can’t stand to have a purifier running non-stop next to their bed while they’re trying to sleep.
