The Little Air Filter that Could
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Blueair air purifier. I own the Blue Pure 311i Max and Blue Pure 211i Max. The 511i Max met and surpassed all the expectations I had from owning the aforementioned models. I saw the diminutive size of the 511i Max and initially thought I would need to use it in a bathroom because it's so small. It's a top performer for its class. It's simple to use and it has all the same great features of the larger models. It quietly and efficiently cleans the air, reminding me that the really good products just work. Blueair makes really good products. I prefer controlling the 511i Max with the Blueair app rather than the device itself because I only run the air filter at night and turn off the button LEDs to keep the room dark. The app provides useful information like particle count and allows for customization of fan speed, LED brightness like I mentioned, and automation settings. The Auto mode seems to work well and maintains the air based on the air quality read by it's onward sensor. Voice control is also possible through Google Assistant or Alexa, enabling hands-free operation. I connected it to Alexa but I might have called on any of the Blueair filters maybe four times ever. The air filter's performance is excellent. It's incredibly quiet on the lowest setting and quickly adapts to changes in air quality in auto mode. It really came up big when my entire family caught the flu and couldn't isolate from the kids. It's also been great when we've cooked or baked smokey foods. The 511i Max almost immediately jumped up a few speeds to clear the air fasters. I really love that the pre-filter, the outer fabric, is machine washable in a delicate setting. The filters are expensive but they last a very long time in normal conditions. No smokers or pets in our home. I highly recommend this air purifier.

Quiet, convenient, fresher air.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Blueair 511i Max is a great air purifier for a bedroom, office or any similar size room. It's pleasing to look at and fits into any decor with it's soft gray covering. Set up is quick and easy. Touch controls on top of the purifier are convenient and light up to let you know the selection made. The Blueair app connects to the purifier quick and easy. The app gives information on indoor and outdoor air quality, filter life, as well as being able to switch fan speed, led light brightness, set up schedules if preferred, and a convenient link to buy the correct replacement filters when needed. I use my Blueair air purifier on auto mode. I like that it adjusts to what is in the air without my input. The fan will speed up when it is needed and then slow back down and gets very quiet when the air is clear. Most of the time it's very quiet and, if not for the light shining to let me know, I would think it's been turned off accidentally. The outer filter cover is removeable for cleaning, easy to hand wash or can be tossed in the washing machine.

Perfect for the bedroom!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Review for Blueair - Blue Pure 511i Max 465 sq ft HEPASilent Small Room Bedroom Air Purifier I was looking for a less obtrusive bedroom air purifier after using a much larger one during Covid. The Blueair - Blue Pure is perfect in all the ways I was hoping. First, it’s small and light, easy to move, and fits with pretty much any decor. The subtle gray fabric cover looks elegant, but is actually fully functional, too. The fabric covers the HEPA filter and acts as a pre-filter for dust and larger particles. It’s easy to take it off and shake the dust outside, vacuum the fabric, or wash the cover. Second, it’s VERY quiet. Even running on high, it’s not too distracting, but running on Auto lets it adjust the fan for the current conditions. If my wife uses hairspray, the fan cranks up to high for a few minutes and then returns to low. Finally, it allows for peaceful sleep with night mode. This turns the fan to low and turns off the main LED, while dimming the “night” LED. It’s hard to hear that it’s even running and the dim LED is not distracting. Controls are two simple buttons: one for power, and the other for selecting Auto, Night, and fan speed. When you download the Blue app, you get additional features. You can check on the filter’s functioning to see the air quality, you can set a schedule (I set up a schedule to change to Night mode at bedtime and then reset to Auto in the morning), and you can see the condition of the filter to know when it needs replacing. The unit comes with a Particle and Carbon filter to help remove odors, but you can up your game with special filters designed to remove smoke or allergens.

Quiet and Effective
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using the Blueair Blue Pure 511i Max (long name) for about two weeks now and it has been going very well. The unit is very quiet, most times I never hear it even though it sits within 15 feet of where I sit in the living room. App: It has an app which is nice to have but I'm not sure I really need an app for an air cleaner. It does have some nice features though. It gives your room an air quality score. It also tells you the fan speed and filter life. You can control the fan speed, LED brightness, and setup a schedule. You can even add a child lock via the app if you have little ones running around. It also has some potentially handy features such as how-to links and videos. Style: The filter looks nice. The top 1/4 is white plastic and the rest is a grey mesh pre-filter. It would likely fit in with most houses. If you don't like the grey, you can order pre-filters in other colors to help match your decor. Filters: I like that the Blue Pure 511i Max filters out allergens like pet dander, dust, and pollen since a few of us in the house suffer from allergies and we have two cats and a dog in the house. It also will filter smoke - even though no one in the house smokes, this is a nice feature. Bottom line: It's a nice air filter. It is quiet and has nice features like the app.

Small but mighty
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am enjoying this little room purifier. First, I will start with the packaging. It was nicely packaged, and well protected for shipping. There was not a lot of paperwork. The set up was relatively simple. The directions were super easy to follow. I had no problems connecting to WiFi. You will need to download the app, so that you can operate the purifier from your phone. That was an easy process. I like the ability to navigate from my phone instead of having to have a remote that I would have to keep up with. I am using this purifier in the room with my dog. So far, it seems to be working well. I have been getting the indicator that the air in the room is clean. I will see how it looks in about a month. This particular room seems to collect more dust, so I want to monitor the air quality over a period of time. The purifier is a nice color. The covering is a sort of grey. At first I thought I had to take it off. It will be interesting to see how long the filter lasts. That is one of my concerns. The fan is very quiet, you really don’t know its on. I like that. I have had purifiers in the past that make way too much noice. So far, I see no issues with this purifier. It stays connected to my WiFi and I am able to easily navigate with my phone. I can turn it on and off and change the speed of the fan. Great little device, I highly recommend.

Clean and Fresh
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the 511i set to auto, and I don't think I have ever heard the fan running. It is quiet. I have it set up in the living room, where the family and dogs spend most of their time. The app is quite good. Not only does it give you status of the filter, the health of the air in the room and the option to order a replacement filter you also have remote controls if you need to change the settings. Additionally the app gives you the local air quality outdoors, you need to let it have perms to location, but they are pretty minimal. I have been running this for a few weeks now, the filter has barely changed in percent remaining. Based on the app, the air quality in the living room was already pretty good, so I anticipate the filter to last a fairly long time. In two weeks I have used two percentage points. Based on that, the filter could last 2 years. The unit is pretty inconspicuous, I set it up and my wife has not noticed it. Like I said, it is quiet. The LED can be adjusted for brightness. Overall I have no complaints and this seems like a very solid air cleaner. Definitely a recommended product.

Noisy other than lowest speed setting
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing I noticed was the power cord dangling from the top. I am NOT a fan of the placement, since that just makes it look more awkward. But they included a QR code in the pamphlet, and had a pamphlet with the basic functionality as well. Far too many places don't include anything at all anymore. So that was appreciated. The setup of the app was easy, and I like that the registration spot, where you have four things to check before clicking "I Agree" did NOT require all four to be checked. You did have options to limit some of the data collection. The app found the filter right away via Bluetooth, and then found my wireless right away. I am using an Eero Max 7 mesh and this connected without issue. Once it was done, I was up and running. I have several air purifiers throughout my house. Most rooms have one, and they're rather oversized for my needs. I have a Air+Health unit in the dining area, my great room has an Aeris, this one will go in my kitchen. These are all three rooms an open concept so it's like one large room. So you can see why I say my purifiers are overkill. Then I have a Winix in my master bedroom, and other non smart ones in the other bedrooms. This is the smallest. And while the others are just about silent when on low speeds, this one is the quietest. When I was initially setting it up and testing noise levels, it was a few feet from my head, sitting right next to my laptop (as I was typing this part of the review) on top of the table. On speed 1, or auto, I could just barely hear it even this close. Of course, jump the speed up to 2 or 3, and it's pretty loud, but most of them are at the higher speeds. There isn't a great way to have no noise when you're trying to move a good deal of air. But while I understand that high speeds are loud, this one seems a bit excessive even at the second speed. Most of the units I have aren't this loud at their middle speeds. It may have as much to do with the design and the fact there is no plastic "body" around this, it's all just air filter other than the bottom or the top. Like most, there are a couple stages. The first is a prefilter is a fabric and can be cleaned and washed. But this was where I learned a critical fact here. Of course during the unboxing there is no way to know that this has absolutely NO protection for the actual filter. This outer fabric covering IS the prefilter, and it slides off and the actual SIDES of this unit ARE the paper fins of the filter ITSELF. So my filter had some damage to it from when I was apparently getting it out of the box. So then I had to spend some time trying to fix the shape of it to get the airflow so it would not have issues. This is the only purifier I've seen like this, with no actual protection for the physical filters from something outside. So definitely keep that in mind, when unboxing and when simply picking it up to move it around. So while I took a star off for that vulnerability, I also had to admit that unlike many air filters that pull up from underneath (such as my Aeris), this will pull air in from all directions around it. But I really prefer the way the Winix and Air+Health models accomplish this without having the filter just sitting there waiting to be deformed. Even a simple bump with a vacuum cleaner unintentionally could deform things. This one I would say should be put on an end table or nightstand, not necessarily on the floor. Even my Roomba would probably dent up the air filter fins if it was on the ground. But since it's a straightforward type of air filter, it's not difficult to get things straightened out again so there's optimal air flow. It's just something that I really don't think should've been necessary to even have to do. The app is straightforward and simple to navigate. There's a "swipe right" quick option that simply turns this on or off. Pressing the device instead gives you all the details and fine tuning. First thing you see on top is a histogram of the air quality. Below that you can choose the mode. Auto, or manual fan speed, or a night option and even a child lock. I saw in the brochure you can press the fan button and power button on top of the unit to adjust the LED brightness, but there's a slider in the app with a much easier granular ability, from zero to 100% brightness. This is also where you can see remaining filter life, find out HOW to replace the filter, and a button that is apparently a link to buy a new filter. Here you can also set schedules. A feature I like on smart purifiers, since you can have one schedule while you're gone during the day and you'd like them to just clean the air without worrying about noise, and then you can have a different setting when you're home, or sleeping. And after the schedule ends it can either go back to the previous settings or you can define custom settings for when the schedule is done. There is also a "Welcome Home" feature. This apparently will turn the unit to standby when you leave the house, and turn it back on 15 minutes before you return to try to help you save energy. This of course requires more information from you, and the app opens a permissions section about enabling location access and such. Since I just leave them running on automatic 24/7, this isn't a need for me. The one thing that invariably sets off my units in the dining and great room area is when I'm cooking burgers on my stove. They're guaranteed to ramp up speeds then. So I put this to the test by having it IN the kitchen (where no other air cleaner has gone before due to size issues) on the island counter about 7 or 8 feet in front of the stove. And it definitely kicked into high gear just like the others. Didn't change anything elsewhere, so clearly it was unable to handle the load in the kitchen here. But for a smaller room, a bedroom or an office, this would work fine as long as the speeds don't ramp up. Then it would definitely be a bit noisy for a smaller room.

Good Air Purifier, with Solid App Options
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first time trying a Blueair branded air purifier, and I was pleasantly surprised! It came fully assembled, but I actually decided to disassemble it to get a better idea of how to access the filter and how the device opens and latches (I would encourage anybody buying this product to do so, to get a better idea of safe ways to carry the product, and of what the removable and washable parts are). Reviewing the quick start manual is a must, to understand how to connect this product to wifi, although once you look over the guide, you will find that the product is very simple to use and more intuitive than one might think just from looking at it. The Blueair app was easy to locate in the App store, and was fairly simple to use for connecting the device to wifi (note that you must use a bluetooth connection before you can get to the wifi only connection; you can then disconnect from bluetooth). The primary criticism that I have is for the first page of the App, as I was confused about why I had to enter an "outside" location when there is an indoor location option that forces you to enter your local area information anyways. The actual app options beyond the first page are simple and intuitive to follow, showing air quality, filter life, LED brightness slide bar, night settings, a child lock option, and event the ability to auto-operate the device on a schedule of your choosing. This purifier gets very good air flow, and the lower setting is fairly quiet. I found the LED lights to be a bit distracting at night even on their lowest settings, so I ended up placing the device in a way where the lights would not disturb me in the evening ( am using it in my bedroom). I would recommend this air purifier to anyone in the market for one, and have now added Blueair to my listing of preferred purifier brands. While I usually do not like devices that are solely dependent on an App, I did find the App to be very convenient to use with this Purifier, and I enjoy getting air quality and filter quality details digitally alongside having the exterior light to identify filter replacement or poor air quality. I will definitely consider Blueair branded purifiers when looking for my next one, assuming this one last long (I've only had it for about a week or so), and that the filter is as easy to replace as it seems it would be.

A new Blueair fan!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an old house and air cleaners are a necessity for us to cut down on all the old house cruft floating around. I currently use 5 of same type, that share filters. Filter costs are out of control for this brand, so the Blueair and it’s inexpensive filters jumped out as something to try. The Blueair 511i is sized just for what they claim, a small bedroom, any room much bigger or experiencing a lot of air moving through would be quite the challenge for this little guy without running the fan at a high speed. The plastic is white and the bottom is medium gray, which I think might have a hard time clashing with any bedroom. I understand the company is called Blueair, but that doesn't mean putting a blazing blue LED on a unit specifically marketed for a small bedroom is a bad idea, and it can be switched off with the app or by using the controls on top to set night mode. In the dark, there is no dark, that light lights up the whole bedroom. I went ahead and added a LightDim sticker to it, which makes a big difference. The fan is not noisy until it gets over a half setting and I would say there is no reasonable person who would tolerate the fan on full for more than a few minutes, it is silly loud. It also sounds like a direct drive brushless motor in there, so there is the faintest of pulsing sounds at lower speeds, but I’m the only one that hears it, so that’s good. The app is wonderfully simple, just about as simple as the controls on top, which consist of 2 buttons, the app has it’s AQI at the top and you get some configuration of the different speeds, timers and lighting. It doesn’t do much else (what else is there to do?). It seems it might be nice if I had guests arriving and I was somewhere else, I could have this in the guest room and turn it on for folks arriving even when I’m not around. The AQI on my unit did not change-at all- for a week of running, “Is this working?”, so I moved it to another room with a drafty sliding door and it changed, so it does work, I just got lucky and found the clean air, I guess. The fabric covering around the bottom 2/3 of the unit is a washable pre-filter, catching larger dust and fur and other stuff that would quickly clog the finer filters. This is a great idea, a bit of “why don’t all of them have that?” sort of thing. Not only does it cut down on filter costs, which is nice, but it also cuts down on stuff I’m throwing away. Overall, the Blueair 511i Max is a great addition to our house and I look forward to many years of care-free use!

Perfect air purifier!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is on a Blueair - Blue Pure 511i Max 465 sq ft HEPASilent Small Room Bedroom Air Purifier - White/Gray. I love the smell of a new filter. This purifier is perfect for small rooms and looks great with any decor. I am using mine in the laundry room next to the litter box. It does a good job of controlling the odor and dust. The fan has 3 speeds. The first and second, you can barely hear it. The third isn't loud and I can't hear it from another room. The best thing that I love about it is the pre-filter that you can take off and wash. There are 5 layers of filtration but 3 parts to the filter. The washable pre-filter on the outside, the filter itself and the inner carbon filter. They have 3 different versions of filters you can get and also some slightly different color pre-filters. If you need to control stronger odors like smoke, they sell one with a better carbon filter. Standard replacement is $25 and top is $45. Filter was easy to take apart. I will say it wasn't hard to put back together but it took a few times to get it right. I think the pre-filter was keeping it from locking into place. Connecting to the app was very easy. When I clicked add product, there it was and all I had to do is give it a name. Every function can be controlled by the app. You can even setup a schedule. It keeps up with PM2.5 and alerts you when it is time to replace the filter and lets you order it directly from the app.

Great for allergies
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really liked that it didn't stand out like a typical air purifier. The air flow seems great. Even on high it's more quiet than the other brands I have tried. The outer cover seems like it will collect hair and dust and look dirty over time but they do sell other covers in other colors to switch them out while washing. The machine only came with one though. I personally really like it. I used this for a week so far. I have more or less left it on auto and let it do it's thing. So far it has remained at about 95 percent or above. I wanted to test it extensively so I intentionally used my spray deodorant and static spray near it and on auto mode it sprang into action almost immediately. I am definately confident that it does everything it says it will do. The phone app is outstanding. I expected the filtering to work as advertised but I didn't expect the same from the phone app nowadays. You can clearly see they put a lot of thought into ease of use and programming. That was the highlight for me and gave me confidence in knowing they will continue to support it in the future.

Attractive, compact, effective, louder than some
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used many Blueair filters over the years and we've found them to be highly effective and reliable units with reasonable replacement costs for consumables. The 511i is a great step forward, featuring a compact and attractive design which is nonetheless able to maintain high air quality in a room up to 465 sq ft. Operation is very simple - just set it to "auto" and let it be. The controller monitors air quality at the PM2.5 level and adjusts the fan speed whenever higher concentrations of particulates are detected. The filter is effective for fine airborne particles down to 1 micron. In our experience, the air quality in our home feels much better with HEPA filters of this type throughout the home. Although simple to use, the device is also highly configurable. An easy to use control panel allows you to manually change fan speed or set "night mode" for reduced fan noise. There is also an app which easily pairs to multiple filters as needed and provides even greater control, even when you're not in the same location. The most useful feature is the ability to set schedules, allowing one to, for example, have the unit run on high for a half hour before you return home from work each day to clean the house before your arrival. The app also tracks filter usage. The one negative with this particular design is that while the unit is generally quiet, there is some noticeable noise from the fan unit that almost sounds like bearing noise. I've used several units from this same series and all of them have done this. Other older and larger Blueair units have not. It's not a deal breaker, but if absolute silence is a requirement, you may want to demo one in the store before buying. Pros: - Attractive design and high quality materials, including a nice fabric cover for the filter. - Easy filter changes - just screw off the top fan unit. - Very effective filtering - Easily adjustable settings via control panel or app., including scheduled fan speed changes and night modes. - Auto mode detects particulates and adjusts fan speed as needed. - Compact. - Generally quiet. Cons: - Some bearing type noise from the fan unit means the unit is not 100% silent.

Unique and quiet air filtration
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Blueair produces air filters that are different than most on the market. They are designed for function and to be displayed in the open. The modern look is complimented by quit and efficient air filtration. The outside of the unit is actually part of the filtration. The housing is covered in a cloth-like outer filter material that can be removed and washed. It fits on rather tight and can be a little difficult to remove. The main filter is located on the inside and can easily be replaced once the outer cover is removed. The filter can be controlled from the top of the unit or through the mobile application. The benefit of the mobile app is that shows the quality of the air, filter life and allows you easily order the correct filter unit. The noise level is good on low, medium or high settings. Low is actually too quiet for me, and I prefer running on medium or high for background noise while I'm sleeping. As with most filters, there is slight smell on initial use, but it goes away in the first hour or so. The air coming has a crisp fresh aroma to it. Normally large particles are captured deep inside the filter, but the outer covering is actually visible. Luckily, it is a grey color, and you cannot see most materials that are being caught. Filters are reasonable priced compared to similar units and can be purchased in bulk for additional savings.
