Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the Blueair Classic 480i's ability to improve air quality and its quiet operation, even at higher fan speeds. Many appreciate the real-time air quality feedback and the purifier's effectiveness in cleaning the air. However, some users have experienced issues with the mobile application's functionality and find the replacement filter cost to be high. The size of the unit is also a point of discussion, with some finding it larger than anticipated.

I really love this air purifier and I truly wish I could leave it 5 stars. The only reason I cannot leave it five stars is because of the app that works with the air filter doesn't work half of the time and you do need that to take advantage of some of the features. I have installed the Blueair Classic in my large master bedroom where we allow our dog. It is ascetically pleasing and was easy to setup. I leave it running on auto and I can hear it quietly shift modes once in a while. I definitely have noticed that I do not have as much dust accumulating in the master bedroom on my furniture and on the ceiling fan. I can definitely tell that it is working. This does make me wonder if my filter will last 6 months though. :)

I was a little concerned when this was delivered because the box is huge and heavy. However, it was just a well packaged item! For the area this covers, I think the overall size of it is very reasonable. I wanted something sleek that would blend into the room, not take up too much space, but still do what it’s supposed to do! I have a dog that sheds a lot and also loves to be in and out of the house, so she brings a lot of dirt and dust with her. I gave this air purifier a good week of use before writing this review and am super impressed with the results. I suffer from allergy headaches and really feel like this has made a difference. I think the real test will be in the spring of course, but I’m feeling confident! The dust, fur, and other particles honestly seem like they’ve been neutralized at this point! I don’t love the app that you use with this product but it’s not the worst I’ve seen and doesn’t warrant taking off a star. The product itself works great and is user friendly. I’m hoping with a few updates, the app will be right there with it.

The Blueair 480i certainly does its job while coming across in a living room situation like it's a cabinet. During initial setup, the instructions were reasonably well thought out, except I didn't see anywhere that the filter had to be unpackaged (it's already in the unit and must have its shrinkwrap unwrapped before usage). Also, in setting up WiFi on the unit, it might take more than one try for the Blueair to connect to your existing network. However, once WiFi is established, the free app is a breeze to work with. For our overall testing, I kept the fan speed at auto. Only during certain times or circumstances did I even hear the fan kick into high gear. For example, when we were cooking and created too much smoke, the purifier sensed this and remained at a faster fan state until the air was clear. This was the same for cooking that emits a stronger odor; it sensed this as well and quickly purified the air. Overall, this is a great air purifier and I'd highly recommend it.

I use this air filter to clean up the air and reduce dust in my office since I have many electronics - and it does this very well. This high-volume air filter quite attractive so it fits in nicely and isn’t an eyesore. The construction is top notch - very solid and you can tell it’s high quality. The controls on the unit itself are hidden with panel on top which is allows it to function without any obnoxious lights if you were to put this in a bedroom. At low to medium fan speeds (0-2) it is very quiet and hard to hear. At the high fan speed (3) it has some volume to it which could be an issue for some. The physical controls on the unit itself are easy to use and also has a child lock feature that you can enable through the smartphone app. You have to use the smartphone app to set up the device. Upon launching the app and pairing the unit, which worked fine, it then had a prompt that my filter was already expired. After closing and relaunching the app, it then properly said that I had 180 days left on the filter. The app provides a lot of information about the air quality including different levels of air particles, tVOC, temperature, and humidity. Don’t know what tVOC is? I didn’t either but what’s great about the app is that it also provides information about each of the different sizes of air pollutants and the other data that it can collect. Other than the volume of the fan at the highest setting and that odd bug with the smartphone app which initially said that my filter was expired, I think this is a good product.

The unit has a built in air quality monitor that differs significantly in its accuracy compared to my uHoo Air Monitor which is much more detailed in its detection. So, don't rely too much on the air quality monitoring results in the app. The app also allows you to schedule the unit to come on/off at certain times, etc. but scheduling fails to work at all for me. It was easy to connect to wifi and provides the capability - if you can find/pick the right skill - to turn on/off and adjust the fan all with Alexa which is nice. But they've greatly confused consumers in the Skill Store by offering ones that only turn on/off the unit vs others that can control the fan entirely. Air smells clean coming out, though, and the unit is very quiet even on fan speed 2 of 3. Only on 3 can you really start to hear it. I'm anxiously awaiting wildfire season this year to see if/how much it'll *really* clean the air. It's light enough to move around to any area you feel you might need it!

I was pleasantly surprised by how well this air purifier works. It’s relatively quiet and I definitely notice a difference in my home. I tend to have an extremely dusty hone despite periodically having the duct systems professionally cleaned but since using this I have noticed less less dust and cleaner, fresher air. I didn’t think the difference would be that great to warrant having this but I am now a believer.

The Blueair Classic 480i Air Purifier does a good job overall. Upon unboxing, my first thought was that this was a large unit. It is rather industrial looking but not entirely unattractive. It reminds me a bit of the large computer desktop cases for early gaming rigs. Setup is simple. Open the back (a metal swing door). Pull the filter out. Remove the plastic cover from the filter. Insert the filter. Plug it in to a power outlet. It starts working immediately. There is a flip-lid on the top that can open to expose a few manual controls. The included instructions are fairly minimal, and the buttons aren't initially very intuitive in terms of the information they convey. But you can get by. The most frustrating thing is that you need to set up wifi in order to pair it with the free app, which gives you easier control and more information about your air quality. That sounds easy enough, but it didn't go smoothly. Part of the issue is that it can only connect to a 2.4GHz network. But even when I tried to remove that from the equation and go with a manual setup, it didn't work because the purifier's private network didn't show up for any of my devices. I decided it just wasn't that important to me for the time being. If not for the wifi challenge, this would be 5 stars. The bulk, while a bit surprising, may be beneficial. After all, this can handle a fairly large area. The purifier is very quiet at the low speed setting. In fact, my wife didn't believe me at first when I told her it was on. We do have some air purifiers of another brand that are not as quiet. But this one does get fairly loud when you go to medium or high speed. Settings can be controlled manually on the box itself or via the app (if you get it to work with wifi). In terms of function, it seems great. I do like that the app shows your air quality. This is is a very good filtration system and gives us a bit more peace of mind during these times of COVID. While the filter is not true HEPA, it claims equal efficiency. I can neither dispute nor affirm that, but I can say that it does seem to do a very good job of managing even very small particulates. As with many folks who are attracted to this sort of device, I suffer pretty significant allergies. I like the Blueair system.

The Blueair 480i air purifier works really well. After about 20mins running the air purifier in my room the air smells and feels fresher. You can turn on the Blueair 480i on the unit panel (on/off/auto, different speeds etc) or download the app to control the Blueair 480i. With all home appliances now being connected and control by our phones or tablets its a nice feature. The app can monitor air quality and schedule the Blueair to run at different times. The app was easy to install and connect to the Blueair 480i. One quick warning when first started to app it said the filter needed to be change and I thought either the app or the Blueair 480i was broken, but it needed about 5 mins for everything to be updated no issue after that. Overall I would recommend this.

The Blueair Classic Series 480i air purifier works for purification of the air. I have allergies and since installing the Blueair Classic I have noticed my breathing is better. I have been sneezing and coughing less. The Blueair Classic is a bit noisy on high, but quieter on low and medium. While the Blueair Classic does purify the air, there were problems with the set up and operation of the unit. 1. It took me 2 days of trying to get the unit to hook up to Wi-Fi. 2. After the unit hooked up, I could not get it to sync with the app. I finally gave up. 3. While unpacking the unit there was a tape strip on the access door. It fell off as I was removing the plastic overwrap. This left behind a strip of tacky glue. The Blueair Classic Series 480i is in an area of 390 square feet. This area encompasses the living room, dining room and kitchen. After the second day of running on high, I could notice a vast improvement in air quality within the home. The unit now is set on medium to maintain the air quality. I would recommend this to a friend, but would caution them about the App and internet problems I encountered.

We are now living in unprecedented times where health of the WHOLE person is of utmost importance. Everyone should be doing everything they can to make sure they are as healthy as possible. This also includes the air we breathe. The Classic 480i offered by Blueair ensures that this is possible. I am one of the people that cannot stand (as silly as it sounds) "Dirty Air". Perhaps I am just weird. But I can smell things others cannot. So the day this arrived, packed very well I may add - I was overjoyed. My office, which is on the upper level of my home is right around 450 square feet. So the 480i pretty much fits the bill. Depending on where you live, the indoor air quality sometimes is worse than what is out-doors. So having a product like this, to me, is essential. Since I spend most of my time in my office, again - this item made perfect sense. I was actually tempted to purchase a multi-thousand dollar system for the whole house before finding this item, and thinking "let's do this instead". And I am glad I did. Where this item stands apart from your regular hepa filter is that it comes (like everything these days) with an android and IOS app which lets you control the unit. Not only that, but it lets you see how well it is working, in that it tells you exactly the kind of contaminants are removed from your air! And again, not only that - it shows you the air quality OUTSIDE via various data sources. To me, this was a game changer. 100% blown away (no pun intended). The day it arrived, I hurriedly brought it upstairs, unboxed. and set it up. This process was very easy - simply plug it in, remove the protective plastic from the (impressive) filters, and pair it with your WiFi network. And you are good to go! After being in use for just an hour - I immediately noticed a difference in the quality of the air - it is hard to explain, it just seemed "lighter". I guess in the same way that someone who always drank tap water is introduced to high $ premium water. Their statements would probably include "it tastes lighter". In both cases, it's because there are ZERO contaminants! I was absolutely floored at the gases, and micro particles the app said it was removing from my (what I thought was already pretty clean) air in the office. Having some health problems, the only other time I experienced air this clean, and this light, is when I was in an operating room at the local hospital. I no longer see dust particles flying around in the early morning when the sun's rays are just peeking in the office window. I no longer cough when I first wake up in the morning. Again, I'm in the office probably 18 hours a day. So keeping my lungs "happy and healthy" is precisely what the Classic Series 480i from Blueair is achieving. I should have mentioned this above, but I will describe the sound level produced. Being no stranger when it comes to air cleaners/purifiers - I have had units that covered the whole sound spectrum. From units sounding like a 747 is about ready to take off, to (this) unit sounding like a quiet fan. It is the lowest noise I've ever heard from a unit this size. Whats more, the unit is on high/3! An oscillating fan would probably make more noise. So now, I have clean air, happy lungs, a unit that fits right in with my "modern style" office (the product is quite new age/sci-fi looking). And it takes up less room than a competitors unit I had used previously. If you are serious about your health (and you should be, especially now) - the Blueair - Classic Series 480i should be in your home. Period. No b.s. needed. If you get this product and don't notice a difference IN AN HOUR, you have permission to hunt me down and blast Kenny G through a loudspeaker (which you'll provide), whilst force feeding me Brussels Sprouts (which you'll provide). (And I hate Kenny G and Brussels Sprouts, for the record).

    Simple, Quiet, and Powerful

The BlueAir Classic 480i powerful and simple to use air purifier with that can be contorlled on the actual unit or from an app. It's a large floor standing unit but is almost silent on "low" which is plenty for me. Unlike what the manual said, mine came with the more expensive, carbon based, "DualProtection" filter, as opposed to the less expensive "HEPASilent" filter. The manual is for a few different models so apparently the 480i includes the better filter. Fan Speed and Noise Level There are three fan speeds. On low, it's very quite! I actually had it running for 15 minutes or so and my wife asked me when I was going to turn it on. While it's very quite on low it still pushes through an impressive volume of air that you will feel when you walk by. On medium it's a bit louder and pushes a lot more air. On high, it's very loud but it moves a huge amount of air through on that setting, as it should. BlueAir App The BlueAir app for your phone is free and easy to use. You can easily control the 480i from the app, setting the fan speed, turning it off, or setting it on auto. The app also makes it easy to schedule run time - so you can set when it goes on and off every day. The built-in air quality sensors on the 480i provide data that you can see in the app. It tracks air quality over time for various contaminants. The app also found outdoor air quality data based on my location which was very cool to see and compare with my in-home air quality. Do be aware that the network connection requires 2.4GHz WiFi, according to a sticker on the 480i. So if you only have 5GHz WiFi enabled on your home network it will not work with the app. Ease of Use The 480i is very easy to use with touch sensitive buttons that are large and easy to see and press. Just lift the top flap to see informational icons and buttons. There are a few icons that change to warn you if air quality becomes poor - in case you're not checking the app. There are a few buttons to control fan speed or on/off as well as turning the automatic mode on/off. I've found that our air quality is usually excellent and it can run on low speed all the time - which is great because it's so quite. Work from Home The I've used it in a few different rooms in the house. My favorite thing about it is that it keeps the room fresh while I work from home with the door closed to my office all day. The air used to get kind of nasty and stagnant. There's no stagnant air with the 480i running and because it's so quiet I have no problem running it while I work.

I just love the Blueair Classic Series 480i AirPurifier. It is stylish, quiet, and does an amazing job. If you are in need of an air purifier, you need to give a strong look at this one from Blueair. The Blueair Air Purifier is easy to setup. Straight out of the box, you just have to remove some basic wrapping and you are ready to go. There really isn’t any assembly required. You just have to open the unit, remove the plastic from the filter, re-insert the filter, and plug it up. It really is that easy. From there, you may want to download the app to your smartphone if you have one. I have an iPhone so I just searched the App Store for Blueair. Several apps came up, so I had to make sure I had the right one from Blueair. Once the app was on my phone, I had to register. You do need to put in your email and create an account, but it is pretty straight forward. Then set up is easy. You press the WiFI button on the air purifier and sync up the system. You do have to add your WiFi information, but then you can control your unit from your phone. I enjoy controlling the air purifier from my phone. The app lets me see air quality at any given time in the house as well as other readouts such as temperature and humidity in the room. It even gives me a graphical representation of air quality in the room. I love it. As for performance, the air purifier does an outstanding job. I have it located near my kitchen and living room. I definitely can tell a difference in odors as well as airborne substances when I cook. The odors are removed considerably faster. It is amazing. The unit itself is remarkably quiet. I rarely hear it in operation. Only when I cooked some particularly smokey food did I even hear the fan come up louder. Otherwise I am unaware it is even there. The unit is sensitive too. I can look at the graph of air quality on the phone and I can tell when I was cooking based solely on the fact of the air becoming slightly polluted. The air returned to an excellent level within an hour. I even saw ticks up in the air quality graph when vacuuming was going on. Enough particles were stirred up to register on the graph. This thing really cleans up the air. Maintenance on the unit is easy. The unit opens easily to replace the filter. The filter should last about 6 months. The app will track the quality of the filter and even let you know when it needs to be changed. I really love this air purifier from Blueair. I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for an air purifier.

Well the Blueair - Classic Series 480i was quite a bit bigger than I expected. With that being said, it is a solidly built unit. For the size and weight of the unit, it would have been nice if they included wheels for the general public. For me, I put felt pads on for my wood floors. As we are talking about size, now that is one thick air filter that it comes with. The thickness of a brick. Make sure you remove the plastic wrapper and reinsert the filter. Manual setup was simple, plug it in and turn it on. You can stop there and call it a day. Set it and forget it, and let it do its thing. You can adjust the air circulation/fan speed by pushing the power, push it once for low, push it twice for medium, push it thrice for high, and push it a fourth time to turn the unit off. I have mine set on low, it is so quiet on low, but on high it is definitely audible, maybe a little too loud. On low I wasn’t even sure it was on, till I felt the back and air being pushed out. My unit had an initial smell, which I would say smelled like stir fry, lol. It went away relatively quick, I guess it filtered its own smell. The unit does what it claims to, I just opened one of those bag in a box and placed the filter in the room to filter the off gassing of the memory foam mattress and it made quick work of the memory foam off gassing smell. We have four dogs and it filters their smell and the pet dander they produce. It really does clean and purify the air really well. I noticed an improvement in air quality, especially my morning allergies. We light incense sticks in the house and it filters the smoke from those quite well, to reduce irritation to my eyes. We have an open living room and kitchen and it does a very good job of filtering cooking smells. I haven’t looked at filter replacement, because at low settings, the filter should last at least 6 months. Now for the app…. It is pain to install and setup. For one, it uses 2.4ghz, if your dual band, the default is always 5ghz. I don’t use the app too much, I just basically let the air filter do its thing. No muss, no fuss. Overall, this is a quality air filter that does what it was built to do, four star due to size and weight.

One of the reasons I wanted an air purifier was to deal with the back flow of smoke into the basement when we first start a fire. The other issue is the smell coming from the closet where we have a litter box. We had this up and running on auto when we started a fire, and it sensed the increased level of particulates within minutes and kicked up the speed to clear the air. It took maybe ten minutes to knock the levels down to where it would ramp the fan speed back down. It's less good at dealing with the odor from the litter box, but it still knocks the odor down quite a bit. The sound level is almost undetectable when it's on slow speed, but you can hear it if it ramps up to high. The automatic setup did not work right, and I had to manually configure the wifi settings, but that's something you only need to do once. Now that it's on the network, the app connects to it right away. Overall, I was really impressed with the automatic detection of particulate levels and how quickly it cleared the room.

Packaged very well. The unit itself is about the size of a dehumidifier. Luckily it is much more quiet than that. The app leaves a bit to be desired but the unit itself functions very well. Adding it to our wifi was very simple. Overall we're very happy with it.
