Customers are saying

Customers regard the BOLT VOX 1TB DVR & Streaming Player favorably, particularly praising its ease of use, DVR functionality, and innovative skip feature for commercials. Many appreciate the ample storage capacity and the ability to stream various services. While some users experienced reliability issues, the positive feedback on the user interface and multiple tuners outweighs these concerns.

Great box, but has a few caveats.

This box is amazing. My family and I have been using ones supplied by our cable company and we kept having issues with the box not working with some of the channels. After a while I was tasked to order one of these for them. The box itself is great, but as mentioned in review title, it does have some cons. Pros: The box comes with 1 TB worth of storage (after taking in the TiVo software roughly 900 GB) It comes with 6 recording tuners, which isn't much compared to Dish's Hopper DVRs, but for the most part is better than what the cable company boxes have, which is usually 4 depending on the age of the equipment The box has a MoCA adapter built right in so you can use that capability with other Bolt boxes or Mini boxes Cons: 1. Using the Bolt with cable service requires an M-card, which has to be provided by your cable provider Because of the M-Card requirement you will be unable to use the on demand from your service, as all of the major providers stopped supporting it on the M-Cards (found this one out from a cable tech after his superiors had to actually look this up) Other notes: In addition to an M-Card to use the box you have to activate the TiVo service on the box, and there are different service plans (you can get more info on TiVo's website)

Good Alternative Cable Box to Beat Rental Fees

I was getting fed up with Spectrum's rental box fees and the fact I wanted a way to do a whole house DVR solution, but Spectrum didn't have the technology for it, the TiVo Bolt 1TB DVR box for Cable was the only solution that I could find to accomplish this goal. So far, my experience with this box is good, getting to settings and the guide is fairly easy. A few things that maybe a bit of a pain with the TiVo, setting it up for first time maybe the most pain. Before I set up I had to get a new M-card because it is required for service and a tuning adapter, Spectrum told me I needed one, luckily an M-card cost is about $3 a month depends on your cable service charges and the tuning adapter was free, in order for this to work then going through the rest of the setup does take long because you have to call both TiVo for activating TiVo subscription and your cable company for the M-card to communicate with your cable company, this process may seem painful but worth it and not having to pay the pain of your cable company’s outrages rental box fees. I also bought TiVo mini boxes to complete the whole house DVR solution and so far I am loving it I can watch any DVR recording anywhere in the house when I want. Just a note here that ALL Tivo boxes MUST be connected to the internet all the time for TiVo service to work.

My DVR constantly froze, cable company replaced twice losing all my recordings, gave up on it, went back to Tivo and glad I did. Spend the money upfront and enjoy the rewards. I chose to go with anual plan but even at monthly you save. My provider charges $4.99 for a cable card vs $30 for 2 boxes + $ 25 for DVR service. Add tivo minis to other rooms for free. Setup was simple (I used MoCA setup). Voice control is amazing, find shows in seconds, UI is very fast and responsive, program guide is clean and streaming apps work great. If 1Tb isn't enough storage you can add an external and keep recording. The only thing I miss about my cable box is the clock.

My local cable company was renting me a generic, rebuilt DVR. It was a nightmare and did everything from erasing weeks worth of recorded programs to seizing. The remote that came with it was also not well designed and some functions required holding it with two hands. I have had a TIVO in the past and to have one now required that I buy the unit. It is worth every penny. The TIVO remote is a dream! Easy to program. The unit has not done anything “unusual” since I have had it. Best Buy has been great. The first unit was dead out of the box. Things happen. They promptly replaced it. This was during the store closures due to the Covid-19 virus. When I went to get the new TIVO at Best Buy, they hand delivered the unit out to my car in the parking lot. The whole “pickup process” took less than 5 minutes. I am very pleased with the TIVO unit and Best Buy.

We love our Tivo. Wish we'd done it years ago! Now I can set recordings from my phone. Can record 6 shows at once. And it has more storage. I'm saving so much that it will pay for itself in a year (and that includes getting the lifetime Tivo subscription!)

Upgraded from an older box and really like the ability to source media from different vendors right from one box. Have not messed with the voice commands otherwise the box is solid and planning to upgrade another TiVo to the 3 TB model as my present aTiVo has an external SATA drive from Western Digital attached with quite a few movies stored on the drive so looking for options to migrate the media prior to upgrading. One buzz kill was the season passes, I had 240 with no easy way, to my knowledge, anyway to migrate or export into a .CSV file, that would rock.

Very pleased with this new Bolt Vox DVR. I can now record 6 programs running at the same time. Never missed any unlike my old Series 2 Tivo. I only need one remote to switch from Tivo, Youtube, movies and all. Very convenient. Never had problem since I got it installed last month. It is also space saver with its compact size.

The TIVO Bolt OTA is a great add to the OTA Antenna we had installed. One thing we miss is the lack of a Time Display on the front of the TIVO. The TIVO Web support site is very quick with responses to inquiries about the more technical functions of the Bolt. The amount of memory is amazing! The Bolt has 4 tuners as well....Great Buy! TIVO has a model which works with cable companies as well, IF we ever return to paying for channels, we will get that model as well!

We are in a multi-gen home that had three families recording (and deleting) shows and it was always a problem with who watched what and was it ok to delete. With the TiVo, Cox card and Decoder box I now have my own shows and some nice features such as the "Skip" mode works great when available. Not too much of a problem setting it up and the Cox tech's were very helpful. We save $30 overall per month so this will pay for itself the first year.

I have been using TiVo products for over 20 years. I use a cablecard supplied by my local cable provider which allows this DVR to receive all the channels. The streaming also provides me with hundreds more channels. This "newest" version BOLT also accepts Over The Air (antenna). Best of all TiVo has the great "commercial skip" when watching pre-recorded shows !!

Once you have had a tivo for a while it's hard to want anything else. It supports PLEX which is one of the main reasons we cant get another cable box. Voice commands work accurately every time and tivo support helps through any issues...even sending new hardware right away if under warranty. The fan on my unit is audible and that is annoying in a quiet room but I cant hear it with the tv on.

Bought this to replace a Roamio that was staring to reboot its self randomly. Setup was a breeze and it works great. Haven’t tried the voice remote yet since I use a Harmony remote for the TV. Will be upgrading the hard drive soon to get more space. Transferring from TiVo to PC works like a charm, so I can keep the TiVo cleaned up a bit.

The TIVO box works perfect and records way more HD shows than my DVR from the cable company. The phone support is excellent and very little wait to speak to a person. The Skip feature is great to jump through commercials.
