I love this! It's small enough to put in your pocket and way lighter than your phone. I bought the off-white case since i ordered the white one. It has capabilities like a phone but it is not a phone.. it is also water resistant!!!! If you have an e-reader and want an upgrade, get this!! But everyone is different when it comes to e-readers. This is my only e-reader and it's nice because I didn't load it with any social media things on it, since I'm only using it for reading.

This e-reader is everything I’ve ever wanted! I have a Kindle paper white and while I love it, this Palma is so compact and I can read from any app that’s a Google play store offers. On my Kindle I’m limited to only books from Amazon. It’s also difficult to send books to a Kindle. This makes it so easy to have everything in place. I can also listen to audiobooks. I love that this is getting me off my phone. If you’re familiar with android phones, then this will be a super easy to use. The battery life last me longer than a week when I read every day as long as I keep it in airplane mode when I’m not downloading books. I have customized it to where I can have cool wallpapers, and screensavers. I can download them straight from Google to this device. While this is phone sized, it is not a phone and is not meant as a replacement for your phone. It is an e-reader that does everything. A lot of times it’s not acceptable to pull out your Kindle and read in public because people are aware it’s not a phone. This however, to anybody would think it’s a phone. It’s much more acceptable to be on your phone nowadays. So for all these reasons, I love it. It works great and I use it all the time and have not use my Kindle since I bought it.

    Who Is This Even For?

I really wanted to love the BOOX Palma, I really did. On the surface, it hits every check box: use whatever book apps I want? Check. Huge amounts of storage? Check. Easy to add files by just plugging it into a computer? Check. Those promising ideas break down pretty badly in actual use. The ancient, stripped-down version of Android running on the device is slow, buggy, and not at all suited to use as an e-reader. Apps (I tried using Kindle, Kobo, Libby, and Nook) are a mixed bag. Kobo is dreadful - it takes forever to turn a page, if it even recognizes the swipe, and refreshes the entire screen every time it does. Kindle crashes five to ten times before it decides to stay open, but reading is generally pretty tolerable. Nook worked the best, but is still nowhere near as responsive as it should be. Even IF the swipes worked every time (which they don't) and even if the volume buttons can be used as page-turn keys (a feature that has never, not once, worked for me) reading on this device is still a frustrating exercise thanks to its smartphone-like aspect ratio. Despite being slightly bigger than the Kindle paperwhite, Barnes and Noble Nook, or Kobo Clara, the elongated aspect ration means you're fitting less text on screen, swiping more, and more, and more... Apps with dark UIs (like Spotify) are almost unreadable, and multitasking is a chore. Switching apps is a slow, frustrating process with a lot of missed gestures and accidental taps. You probably don't want to tax this thing too hard, anyway. The battery barely makes it through a single book (with the light set to 10%) which is... somehow so shockingly bad it actually baffles the mind. How does an e-ink display (with no backlight) last for less time than a budget smartphone? Which brings us, finally, to price. If this were $100 or $150, I could almost forgive these failings, but for $280? They're inexcusable. Even the 128gb of storage and 6gb of RAM shouldn't bring the price up that high. BOOX could have easily omitted the entirely superfluous camera and saved a few dollars. It's another baffling decision in a device composed entirely of baffling decisions.

This little guy is a game changer for on the go reading. I love my kindle paperwhite but I wanted something easier to bring with me everywhere and fit even in my pocket so I didn’t have to bring a bag everywhere I go. Not only does this thing make that possible but it’s also opened me up to more reading apps as it runs android unlike the kindle so now I can read on any ebook app not just Kindle! It’s a bit pricy but definitely worth it to me!

Best little ereader money can buy. Worth every cent paid for it. Wish their was a case for it made by its manufacturer that protected its screen from damage.

    Best Compact E-Reader

    Posted .

This e-reader's compact size makes it a perfect everyday carry. Battery life lasts weeks and the screen is crisp and readable. OS: This device runs Android 11, so you have maximum flexibility with what you want to read and where. Though you can download anything you like, I would strongly advise against downloading social media and messaging apps on this device. It can handle them no problem, but creating a distraction-free environment away from your phone makes this a far better experience. Hardware: The Palma has two well placed "volume" buttons that better serve as page turn buttons. There is a genius addition of an additional button to map to a function of your choice. The default mapping is for a page refresh which in my opinion is the best use for this button. Battery life is great, though I recommend keeping Wifi anf Bluetooth off unless you need them. The E-Ink display has a cool and warm backlight option, which make it easy on the eyes no matter what environment you're in. The displays matte coating is perfect for on-the-go reading. It is antireflective and akin to reading on paper. The camera for doc scans is a neat feature but personally, I wish it was not included in order to bring the price down a bit. The device is thin and light. There is a case available from Boox but in my honest opinion, the case makes the device more slippery. Save your money and use it as is or find a different case maker. Everything considered, if you are looking for a compact E-Reader, this is the best option out there. Though the price is higher than competing E-Readers, the compact size is worth the upcharge.

While I love to have all of my books from different apps in one place with the ereader white screen, the functionality and interface is not worth the price.
