Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the long battery life of the 7.8" Nova Air Color E-Ink Tablet, reporting it lasts for days even with heavy use. However, some find the color quality to be muted and not vibrant enough, with reds appearing particularly weak. While color is a key selling point, it may not meet the expectations of all users.

Amazon COULD have gotten my money

I've been waiting for Amazon to stop dragging their feet on a color e-ink device for years now and decided it was finally time to just go with a different company. Overall, I'm very happy with it. I use it purely for comic reading. Keep in mind that the colors are muted as is the nature of e-ink. Reds are the weakest colors, they're very muted. However if you play around with the color processing, you can get pretty servicable colors. Being able to install Google Play apps is extremely helpful for me. I have all my comics stored in ProtonDrive, so having the ability to just download the app and access all of them is very convenient. Battery life is good enough with wifi off. I get a few days of heavy use out of it. Maybe one day Amazon will pull their head out and make a color Kindle, but for now this works perfectly for me.

This device is *so* close to being great. Compared to a Kindle Scribe (not quite the same class, but what I've got): Android on e-Ink has huge value for simply being able to browse with Chrome and get the benefits of the screen. You can actually use this to read the New York Times (or anything not in the Kindle Store; Kindle, Libby, Chrome, Pocket worked well) and even can get away with playing games that require similar speed. Text is super crisp. Pen is great (OneNote, not just Kindle notebooks) but not the most magnetic (you'll want a case). Battery life was typically excellent of e-ink devices of this size. The case is a beautiful dark green with a shiny black plastic antenna band. Color, the reason I bought this, still wasn't good enough for me to keep it. It's less the quality of the color - which looks kinda like washed-out colored pencil (4096 colors vs. millions on LEDs) - is super grainy thanks to the drop to 100ppi (think Game Boy Color, but right now). You can tell what's happening (hyperlinks are blue; that's a picture of a person), but you can't really get any detail or depth at this level. And again, that's only so long as you can accept the blockiness of the image combined with the color. The size makes it so that magazines don't work, and comic books are so dissimilar from their intended colors that only B&W would be ok - at which point, well, there's better options from a cost/feature perspective. This is pretty expensive for the color it commands - a Boox B&W is the better move until the next generation of color. Oh, and if price isn't a factor: It's been announced that an upcoming Boox tablet will share the new Gallery 3 screens coming to the Good e-Reader x BigMe Galy and Pocketbook Viva first, along with Onyx Boox and some other brands not available in the USA. BigMe has questionable localization across their software, Viva will be on Linux, but Onyx will probably release another full Android tablet with Google Play availability. I think that'll be the one for me.

I went from a Kindle Oasis to this. I was fed up with waiting for Amazon to give us a better premium e reader experience. After two years of waiting, I decided to just do a search for good alternatives. I was a little let down initially. But once I figured out the device, it would be hard to go back. Not being locked or restricted to the e book types is more essential than one would think. It’s not perfect. It’s a bit overpriced for what you get, you encounter the occasional crash and lag in certain areas, it takes a bit of tinkering to achieve the ideal performance, and it’s expensive for what you get. The color feature is cool….but isn’t really a necessity. It’s not completely “outdated” but there’s definitely some better options out there. In the end, I’d recommend to individuals who are ok with tinkering and have a desire to explore multiple ebook platforms, the ability to utilize the features for note taking, and just experimenting with different app functionality. It’s not a device for your grandma or mom.

I’ve used Onyx Boox products before and was very excited to use this Nova Air C because of the colored screen. I’ve watched all the reviews and was eager to get my hands on it. Upon receiving it, I was drawn to how sleek it looks but more importantly, how this screen looks. I got used to using it and how it appeared with the 100 ppi on color. I wasn’t bothered by the frequent refreshing so the ghosting would disappear. I was thrilled to see that it runs the latest Android so Google Play was already installed. So I downloaded Kindle, Audible, Nook and Scribd. Things worked well for the first week… Now the issues came up. Not even two weeks have passed and Google Play wouldn’t allow me to download Google Books. It kept telling me that I was not connected to the internet. That was strange because I was able to download books on Kindle. So I thought it was a just an error and turn off/turned on the wifi. Tried again and it still didn’t work. So I went to Scribd and noticed the same thing. Internet not working. Strange again because I was able to see j was connected. I was running the latest firmware and I was definitely connected to my home internet. I tried to update my apps and nothing happened. I wasn’t able to even download any new apps from the Play Store. Suffice to say, I was frustrated with this and since I was still under my return window, I end snip returning. I never had this issue before with my previous Onyx devices (Note Air and Nova Air). I was so disappointed because I wanted an e-ink color display. I guess I just have to wait for Amazon to make one.

I really like this! The screen is easy on the eyes and the device is really light and portable. You can download and use any apps from the Android app store. It's great for reading books and magazines which I connected through my local library. I also use it to learn languages with different apps, and I can use Word too. Just keep in mind that you really won't be able to watch videos or play games on this device. It's a bit pricier than I would have preferred but it is a great product.

From someone who owns a Remarkable 2 the Nova Air C's color display is amazing, offering vivid hues and exceptional color accuracy. The size of the device is perfect for on-the-go reading, fitting comfortably in one hand and making it easy to take with you anywhere. The built-in adjustable front light is a huge advantage compared to the Remarkable 2 for me. Also, its Bluetooth connectivity allows for the connection of a wireless keyboard. I had returned the Remarkable 2 Type Folio because the keyboard cover was not to my liking. Nova Air C is ideal for users who need to study, read, or work on the go.

Great e-reader! I am able to use it easily with my reference manager app (paperpile), and the color is great for figures. Has helped me read more papers which is a huge plus.
