    Good idea / poor implementation

I really wanted to like this device. It is an Android based e-reader that can use various reading apps (kindle and kobo and others) and it can do color as well as black and white. But it has too many flaws for me to recommend it. I knew the colors would be muted and washed out, but what i didnt expect is that color pictures have poorly defined edges, making it hard to see what a picture is supposed to be. Color images are simply bad to look at on the device. The default refresh mode setting for all apps is "speed", which has quicker/smoother page turning and scrolling around in a single page, but makes both text and images look very bad. text is faded and a bit hard to read, like reading a poor photocopy of an original document, while images are hard to make sense of and look terrible. Changing the refresh mode to "normal" makes black and white text look a lot better, though still noticeably inferior to a kindle. Normal makes pictures look clearer and less ugly, though they still do not look clearly defined and are not pleasing to look at. i tried to read pdfs of rpg books using the device, which are mostly text but have quite a few pictures as well, and both the text and the pictures looked bad: slightly better in normal, but still not good. the device is also much harder to set up and use than a kindle. the menus are not well described, and some features, such as using the buttons to change pages, are much harder to program than they should be. in short, the color mode is a wasted feature: it makes the device worse at doing black and white text, yet color images look awful on the device. In theory you could use the device to read online comic books and similar, but the images look so bad that doing that would be a chore. The ability to use different ereading software is great, especially if you use more than one app to read books, but the e-ink itself is so inferior to the kindle at displaying text and flipping pages that i cant recommend it.

This is my 3rd ereader but by first with a color panel. Comparing the legibility of text it is equal to the current generation kindle paperwhite and slightly better than my kindle oasis which is a 9th gen. Color eink is not as good as a nice as a tablet so if you expect that you will not like this device. I find it adequate for comics and manga and I can read for much longer using it than i can my ipad for that content. As an android ereader this device works as well as you spend the time to customize it to your use case, it is not “easy” like other color readers with a supporting ecosystem like kindle or kobo. The trade off is you get to read from everyone who has a web app or android app. Kindle, kobo, nook, bookshop.org, libby, viz, shonen jump, webtoon, j novel club, mihon/tachiomi, and many more all work without side loading! It takes a micro sd card, has page turn buttons, has speakers, text to speech. It is just a really great value at $250 right. The only reason i take off a star is it is not s grab and go experience like a kindle, i have to start it up everytime. Also these are delicate panels in comparison to what is on most other ereaders and the manufacturers, so be careful.

The Boox Go Color 7 is excellent for e-reading and more. It offers many customization and navigation option. Only complaint is that color e-ink isnt quite ready for mainstream. The colors on this tablet are not near as vibrant as I expected compared to a competitors writing tablet that I also own.

Outstanding e-reader, color is good and with a few tweaks there’s very little ghosting if any at all. Battery life is excellent too. I’m coming from a second-gen Kindle so this is a quantum leap forward, and due to it being Android-based I can use basically any bookstore out there and load epub files from places like the Gutenberg site. This has helped me read three books in two months, as I’m able to find a few minutes here and there… from a former avid reader, it’s helped me get back into reading books!

Solid device. Wish the ghosting was less frequent on apps that aren’t the default apps on the tablet but i set it up to refresh the page frequently. I love this thing. I also love i can have both my e-books and audiobooks on one device.

I have an iPad and a Samsung "Nook" and after a day of looking at a computer screen, reading on a digital device just adds more strain to my eyes. I found this and I like that it is Android based as I have many reading apps and this device takes them all! I don't have to download books and then convert the books to the next reading app. I like that the reading pane rotates and you can turn pages either using the buttons or with turn pages by swiping the pages. It does take some time to get to a setting that you like. There are slight differences for each reading app. I like that it is light weight and not heavy like my ipad so no dropping on my face :) I would recommend this device if looking for something that can take all reading apps.

It Does Not Live Up To The Hype...

The ghosting was too much for me to get over. I wanted it as a Kindle Oasis substitute (since Amazon seems to have discontinued it, so we won't ever have a colorized version). But - Boox just does not compare. This reader was too much money for it not to be comparable to the higher end readers out there. I'm now using my iPad mini as my reader.

Purchased the Ereader within a week the right side of the e-reader would get a solid yellow line after reading for a few minutes. After going back and forth with the manufacturer submitting pictures and videos; she had the audacity to say “nothing to worry about for now should it spread more they can replace the screen” Are you kidding me! I immediately returned the e-reader…why would I keep a brand new device that’s obviously defective. Boox has the worst customer service….I was hoping she would say oh its a software issue…but according to her it’s normal. That’s definitely not normal. I strongly don’t recommend this device. If i wanted to deal with a Yellowing kn the Screen I would have bought the Kindle ColorSoft at least they corrected the issue. Ended up buying the Apple Mini and I love it!
