Small, well-made, expensive, meh sound quality

The good: mid/high range speaker is very small and well-made, with a metal enclosure. RF remote control has excellent range. Inputs for optical digital, coaxial digital, and analog audio. Wired subwoofer connection with 10ft cord. The bad: subwoofer is huge and plasticy. No inputs/passthru for HDMI signals if you care about that. The ugly: sound quality is 'meh'. Absolutely NO soundstage. Turns itself off automatically, but doesn't turn itself back on automatically. No Bluetooth or AirPlay capability. Only had this soundbar for a week, so consider this a preliminary review. This is the second soundbar we've owned; this replaces a Boston Acoustics Tvee 30 that our cats knocked off the entertainment center one time too many. Years ago, I had a Dolby ProLogic setup with a Yamaha receiver and KEF speakers. That system sounded an order of magnitude better than any soundbar I've heard, but it had zero spousal acceptance factor. My ancient television has only coaxial digital and analog (red/white) outputs; luckily, the Bose accepts either, in addition to optical digital input. Bose helpfully includes an optical cable and an RCA cable to connect to your existing TV or cable box. (They're not being *that* generous - these cables cost single-digit dollars.) The connection to the subwoofer is through a pair of bonded multi-conductor cables with DB-9(!) connectors. The amplifiers seem to all be in the subwoofer box; the heat sinks are visible if you look into the cooling grates on the sub enclosure. The digital/analog inputs all go to the back of the mid/high speaker. The mid/high speaker has a pair of Bose's signature dinky 3" drivers in their "direct/reflecting" arrangement - think of a letter 'W'. The direct/reflecting concept - normally applied to their bookshelf speakers like the 301 - is that you bounce some sound off the wall to widen the soundstage...which sort of works in that situation, where the two speakers are separated by some distance. When the four drivers are mere millimeters apart, it doesn't really seem to help...this speaker has zero, zip, nada, no soundstage. It may as well be a mono center channel speaker. Bose claims that they are doing some kind of signal processing ("The four-element speaker array inside works with Bose TrueSpace® signal processing to spread sound well beyond the speaker itself.") but, well, it doesn't work. It just...doesn't. Worse, the sound that does come out of it is really rather flat, with dull highs. The only audio adjustment is a knob on the subwoofer to adjust bass levels, so forget tuning the sound to your room like you can with the Yamaha soundbars. Watching the Blu-Ray version of Raiders of the Lost Ark, voices were well-represented and clear, and the system was able to keep up with the dynamic range of the movie, but musical cues, sounded flat and uninspired. Overall verdict - if size of the mid/high speaker is of paramount importance, then this may be the speaker for you...but it's expensive, and the sound is only so-so.

    For $300 you get “BOSE”

Plus: the bulky sub makes a great climbing obstacle for our (now) two year old. Sounds better than tv (vizio 4k) speakers. Sound bar is compact. System is easy to operate and install. Negative: Inferior to other, and more expensive BOSE products. Sub is half the size of a yeti cooler. Children will climb on sub. Lacks on/off switch...must use remote. Lacks audio options/settings. It’s either on or it’s off. You can however adjust the level of base via knob on back of sub. Conclusion: you get what you pay for. It gets the job done, and it says BOSE on it. And it still works and we’ve owned it for almost 2 years. Reccomendation: spend more money and try the next step up in the Bose lineup. At the time Bose had another economy system for $500-$600. Larger, yet sleeker soundbar with built in mini subs. Wish I would have gone with that.

Bought this unit from bestbuy and was thrilled initially. Connection was easy. The way the speaker connects to the subwoofer is rather awkward. The thicknessmakes it a bit difficult to hide the extra wire. Sound from the speaker was crystal clear. But the main downside is the subwoofer. It lacks the punch. A big remote control, no HDMI connectivity is another flaw. Only connects through optical cable. Remote is sturdy but rather useless and there is no display to let you know the volume level. Movies sound better than music mainly due to a mediocre subwoofer. If I were to upgrade to a better product, the next in line is almost double the price and that's without the sub woofer. Bose really needs to get things right.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are glad that you found the system easy to setup. We are happy to clarify that because the system doesn't process a video signal, there is no need for an HDMI connection.

There is a bass adjustment knob on the back of the Acoustimass module to allow you to tailor the sound to your preference. If you would like us to help take a look at your setup or would like help programming the remote to control other devices, we'd be happy to assist. You can reach us at 1-800-379-2073. We are open from Mon. – Fri., 9 AM – 9 PM EST. Bose

I got this on sale so for the price it wasn't too bad, but for the $499 price tag there are much better options. The clarity/highs were lacking, the sub was barely noticeable unless cranked pretty much all the way and wasn't punchy. I really wasn't impressed when I hooked it up. Luckily...I kept an eye out for a sale on Klipsch, ended up returning the Bose and got the Klipsch B-20 which is impressive, great clarity, ground-shaking subwoofer and it has Bluetooth. I have other Klipsch speakers and love their sound vs Bose...in everything from headphones to 5.1 surround. The only way I would recommend this Bose is if you paid around $300 or less.

The sound from the Bose Cinemate 15 is very average sounding. It is very good in the mids but the highs are almost muffled up or missing. I tried it on various soundtracks ( movies and music both) and found some of the details completely muted away. I would recommend going for polk audio magnifi or klipsch RSB series. The sound you hear at showroom is completely different from what you hear at home with Bose.

I bought this product because of my previous positive experience with Bose audio products. However my tv is mounted above a fireplace and this subwoofer is hard wired to the sound bar. This setup did not work for my situation. It was not real evident on the box that this was the case. On a product of this price point I would expect wireless components. I had to return the item.

Wanted to love the product but ended up returning for the next model up. Like the sound quality and sub and that I was able to get it on sale but returned to get the wireless sub and system with the receiver with multiple inputs...also returned because with my smart tv wasn't able to play any content thru the tv itself, connections were all good just wouldn't work

If you are using this for 1 input I.E. your tv or optical input from DIRECTV box then I recommend this product. If you require to toggle. Between inputs then go a different route. Other downside is that you can program this to work w the volume knob on a mother remote but you can't program the Power button, the device itself doesn't have a power button and the remote is huge (and you have to keep it around d for the power)

So I really was excited when I bought my new Samsung tv and plugged this new cinematic to it, it is surprising to say that it does not do anything to the sound in terms of clarity of dialogues, which is quite similar to the tv sound, it adds lots of bass to the sound and the bass is tight but it's the only thing which gets added, I am worried I might have a faulty piece, but until then it's nothing great

I was truly amazed at the store at the great sound that came from a device with such a small footprint. It truly had that deep, rich Bose-quality sound that the company is known for producing. Amazing. Unfortunately, I returned the unit before even opening the box, as I learned after I purchased it that I could not integrate the remote into my system and did not want to have yet another remote.

We purchased this on the promise from out Best Buy associate that I would be able to pair this system with my IPad . This was just as important as wanting to use it with our new 70" TV. Unless I am missing something, we have not been able to pair this with any devices. Really disappointed with out purchase for this reason. It idols out out very nice quality sound.

Hello Stacy. We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble connecting your iPad to the CineMate system and would like to help. You should be able to easily connect the iPad to the CineMate system by a wire, and if you wanted to connect wirelessly via Bluetooth, you could do that using the Bluetooth Audio Adapter. Please call us at 800-380-4831 so that we can assist you further with this. We are available Monday through Friday 9am to 9pm and Saturday 9am to 7pm EST. Bose

Picked this up because it was Bose, not sure why but I thought it was a wireless system. At that price point compared to the others it should be. Returned it the next day and bought the SoundTouch 300 with the sub. Unfortunately that setup is tripple the money. If you are ok with the wires this would be a great little system, just didn't work for me.

Not a room filling sound that I was expecting. We do have a very open floor plan where the TV and speaker unit is placed, so that may be the issue. Was able to sync up the remote to one other device but not the others so this adds yet another remote laying around. For the price you should be able to sync wirelessly, but I knew that going in!

Has good volume and great bass from the Sub. However the main speaker does not deliver a rich texture to the movies you watch. Mostly you get vocal. Also hate the lack of Bluetooth, although I didn't think I would care. Shop before you buy. I found another sound bar with great sound and it worked off my existing remotes

I've had several Bose systems, from the 2.1 to the Acoustimass 15, as well as QC headsets and car systems. Sound is adequate for likely the majority of listeners, not to mention ease of use. But for the price you can get way better systems. Bose name still carries marketing weight.

You can hear the details... Those things that can go unnoticed even the plain 'spoken word' can be heard better but, I would rater have a 5.1 system that puts you in the center of the action. If you have problems hearing dialog or the news casters, this would surely be woth a try

This product is a great price but has given us some problems. It is very, very sensitive. Many times it would cut in and out. Also very annoying and frustrating but the remote would not work to turn on/off the system. Not the best but could also be just ours is malfunctioning.

I was told this would sound like surround sound. This speaker plays very clearly. But does not play as well as my surround sound does. I miss the surround sound but my wife does not like all the speakers. So I tried this. Great sound but not surround sound by any means.
