    Disappointing - Cheap sound

    Bose fell well short of their Brand Value. I have loved Bose products in the past. Sorry to be harsh, but need to be honest here. The speakers sound like a cheap tin kid's toy. At very low volume they sound okay with spoken word (youtube). With music as soon as you go past 25% of volume the sound becomes distorted, grainy, tin like and scratchy with no base. My laptop's built in speakers sound better. I have owned many $75-$100 speakers that outperform these Bose speakers 10 fold. It was really surprising to me that Bose 2 companion were so bad! I will be returning today with my confidence shaken in Bose. I believe all the high reviews here are from folks coming from very cheap speakers. Save yourself the hassle of a return and seek out another speaker.

    Great Sound, but weak, like really weak

    Purchased these Bose speakers to replace my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 System as it finally flew the amp after about 10-15 years not exactly sure how long I had them. These Bose sound very good in my oppinion, but they have very little VOLUME. I have to turn them all the way up and even then they are pretty low volume. Either I have a defective pair or these things just don't have any power, they need a good pre-amp in front of them or a more powerful power amp. The Quality of the Sound is very good, but just too weak. I'll look for some other replacements for now, but I think I'm going to buy a separate 2.1 power amp and rewire my Klipsch system and get a few more years out of them. They have been awesome!

    Bass, at the expense of all else

    These speakers only lasted a day in my house, for the simple reason that they could not compare with my old Logitech speakers. While the speakers look nice, the suffer from indistinct sound- at the best of times, highs and lows bleed together into a muddy sonic mush, and that only gets worse with bass-heavy music, where the bass booms and everything else just gets drained of any color or distinctiveness. So, for now, I continue to be on the lookout for some good laptop speakers at this price, but these definitely are not the ones I'm looking for.

    I bought these speakers assuming the Bose brand name would bring with it some wholesome quality. The speakers sound fine but, nothing to write home about. The mids and highs are nice and clear but, I found them to be lacking in the low frequency area. Great as a nice set of plug-in speakers for a laptop at an office or something but, I wouldn't recommend for a home office setup. Spend $50 more and get something with a sub-woofer and you won't regret it.

    This is the first Bose product I've ever bought that was a disappointment. I recently purchased the Bose Soundtouch bluetooth speaker and their wireless Soundlink Color II speaker, both have stellar sound in a very compact speaker. These speakers were cheaper, and the sound quality is quite unremarkable. I recommend spending just a little more to get your money's worth from Bose.

    In my opinion, Bose does not perform as advertised. Also, there is no way to increase or decrease the base or treble levels. The only control available on these speakers is the on/off and the volume control. There are speakers on the market that far surpass the Bose ones.

    Not as good as the price

    The Bose Companions were purchased as an easy way to get a bit better sound out of an Echo Dot. They do the job, but no better than an ordinary set of powered computer speakers that cost as little as half as much. I expected more from Bose but it's just not there. Muffled, muddy, lifeless, just not what the price and brand name would lead you to expect.

    My speakers, I believe, have a short in the system. The sound goes in and out. It's as though the wires inside the speakers are not fully connected to the right part(s). However, when the sound is not going in and out, which is often, the speakers put out a great sound.

    not very good sound

    when I listen to the sound in the store before buying it, it was ok. When I got home and hook it up to listen to it I was really disappointed with it. There really was no bass to the sound and it sounded very soft. I would not buy this product.

    Static after only a few weeks

    Started out great, true Bose sound quality, but after only a few weeks, they began to sound very staticky. We keep them off unless we are using them. The last time I turned them on, there was a very loud static that will not go away.

    The speakers are a step up from the internal speakers but they are still pretty weak. No sub-wolfer sound at all. Save up and get a really good pair of external speakers with a sub-woofer. They will make you happy.

    Very short cable between speaker and pc

    The cable between the speaker and pc was 47 inches...less than 3.5 feet. It would not reach my pc that sits on the ground. Sound quality was what you would expect from bose though.

    Looking for good sound to complement my iMac. If you're looking for bass, these aren't the speakers for you. Went with the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 -- so much better!

    Cords too short and sound is low

    Both cords are too short. It is impossible to adjust the width between speakers. Sound volume is low but what you can hear sounds good

    I bougth the companion 2 series 2 and they have better sound than the new companion 2 series 3 I return them
