Get them, they are worth it!

I was looking into getting a new pair of speakers for my computer for the first time in about 10 years. I have been using headphones for about that amount of time instead but now that I have a newborn I don't have the luxury of absorbing myself fully to what i'm doing at my computer and I learned that my old pair of speakers hardly worked anymore SO after lots of searching and reviewing I decided to take a chance on these. Just a fair warning best buy didn't have these speakers set up to test the audio so you have to take the chance from reviews and research like I did but after testing all they had that I could there I went with these and let me tell you they are better then any of the other ones that I could test at the store! Pros. -They don't take up to much space on the desk being about 8" tall by 3" wide and a bit less then 6" deep -No subwoofer on the floor taking up a bunch of space by your feet -The sound quality is crisp and clear with all movies and shows and music I tested it on. -The base and tremble right out of the box with these speakers is so amazing there is NO need for any subwoofer! I mean sure you could get more thump with a woofer but these provide enough to shake my desk at even moderate volume level and that is impressive! (note I didn't want a woofer or shake my house kind of base, I have no need for that kind of base level) Cons -For the price of $100 I would of liked to see a few more features included, such as base and tremble controls and possible bluetooth for less wires hanging behind the already cluttered desk. They have a headphone jack in the front of the speaker and I mean come on...who uses that anymore these days right? A USB port to plug in a charging cable would of been far better instead. -the audio cable that goes from the right speaker to my computer was barely long enough to reach my computer, I have a 5' long desk with my computer on the end of the desk under it on the left. -from what I can see not mountable to the wall, would of been a nice option to get them off the desk altogether. Overall thoughts Simply put for the price you are getting VERY good sound quality considering there is no woofer, to me the base is certainly enough to make me happy and my legs are happy to keep the extra space a woofer would take up. At the same token for $100 in todays market more up to date features would of been nice, these seem....to simple for 2019, but bose didn't lack in the sound department with these speakers at least. I am a simple man and don't need the extras in the end so these speakers fit the bill and I say get them in a heart beat and you won't regret it, it will be a "wow" for you right out of the box! -

Greatly improved my desktop computer experience.

For years I've been using a pair of what I thought were decent speakers on my computer. I hadn't been looking for an audiophile experience on my desk, but thought these old Altec-Lansing speakers did a decent job - nothing earthshaking but seemingly better than a lot of speakers that are standard equipment on computers. Back even a decade-and-a-half ago, speakers on computers were largely there so we could hear the beeps and burps of Windows as we moved through the day. The sound fidelity of "The Microsoft Sound" wasn't uppermost in anyone's mind. But gradually, sounds coming from computers are much more important as whole music libraries have moved there. And while it's possible to wirelessly throw your sound these days to your big "main" system, most of the time it's just at the desk where we want the sound. While in Best Buy recently, I found a display set-up with two different sets of Bose computer speakers including these Companion 2 models. Playing the little store demo I was impressed, but I didn't buy them then and there. Instead I went home and got one more taste of my old Altec-Lansing speakers - did some research on the Bose set, and headed back to Best Buy. Since installing these, I've really enjoyed the sounds of my computer. My music library sounds great and I don't HAVE to put on headphones to hear it at its best. And the headphone jack on the front of the speakers is handy for those times when I don't wish to disturb others. These Bose Companion 2 speakers bring a full range of sound that I was missing before. Good, thumping bass and nice sparkly highs nestled over a silky-smooth midrange can envelope me as I sit at my computer now. These would work equally well as a companion to a laptop. I know a lot of computer users have gone the "small" route in their computing use. I'm still a desktop guy with a nice-sized monitor and full keyboard and mouse. Oh - and the old "Microsoft Sound"? It sounds wonderful on these speakers!

I was like most torn between these and the 20's so i did a test set up my ice power EQ on my New Asus q536fd and tested the music, game, move and speech settings all set at 65% bass 90% treble 90% widener/ virtual surround and 100 of loudness , the laptop was only set to 35 volume as the laptop volume increases so do the Bose speakers . So I wanted something clear but more on the bass side deep bass notes and punchy pass like hard rock and rap or hip hop . The 250$ speakers were crystal clear actually to much treble for me and when my wife switched it was perfect I though for sure she was messing with me because the 2's series 3 sounded just what i has expecting the Companion 20's to sound like clear to where you can hear foot steps in a movie ,to deep bass and punchy bass with clear vocals but not so clear they sound automated you want to hear some bass in voices , also the 20' don't have a dedicated rear bass port and the 2's do , the 2's are super simple to put together with plenty of cord , i zip tied up about 3 feet or so . In closing These are great for computer speakers , I would not but them up against my lg sk9y with Dolby atoms and a 8" woofer lol but they are a good buy . These were my first Bose purchase as i have never found them to be worth the price and the quality compared to other speakers in the price range they fell short . But these hold their ground i just hope they dont blow i turned the base down to 50% and left the laptop at 35 volume and it sounds great . Hope this settles some of the confusion on the 150$ difference ... Its marketing and a little volume disc with a blue led vs a simple volume knob on the rt. speaker with a slit line to show where the volume is .

An upgrade from using my TV as a speaker

Primary use: Watching movies or videos, music, and just wanting to hear what's going on, on my PC. I have long abstained from buying any speakers for a really long time and stuck to cheap earbuds because the weakest link in all speakers are the wires. When a short develops in the wire from even careful handling, it can cause one speaker to not work, and with really cheap speakers manufactured these days, all connections even power are soldered in the speaker housing and this means the wires aren't easily replaced and the whole speakers are just thrown away (along with your money as well). After reading a lot of reviews, I decided to buy these speakers and after watching a few movies I realized I made the right choice. Usually I connected my GFX card to my TV with HDMI (that also provided audio) to watch movies without being chained to earbuds. Coming from that, the sound from these speakers seemed 'strange' at first and I realized I was hearing things I haven't before (subtle things, like paper shuffling) and the sound seemed overall richer and vibrant than what came from the T.V.. These speakers are excellent for this price range but they do suffer the same design flaw for all speakers in this price range and decided to deduct a star for that reason: the cable connection in the left speaker (that goes to the right speaker) is hardwired into the housing which means *IF* that cable goes bad then it isn't easily replaced with an off the shelf 3.5mm cable. If you are looking for quality 2.0 PC speakers around $100, I definitely recommend these.

These speakers produce very good sound with easy set-up and minimal clutter. There is no separate bass component, yet the bass produced by the two speakers is quite good. System set up is easy, with the right hand unit acting as the control with just three connections: one to the computer, one to the left hand unit, and one to a power source. Set the computer volume setting at 75% and use the speaker volume control to increase or decrease volume as desired. Sound range and quality is good with minimal distortion even at high volume levels. Price point is above competitors, but is justified given quality level and excellent customer service from Bose. Excellent web site service, and the ability to register product warranty on line stand out. Three small issues are annoying. There is no power light on the control unit, so it is easy to forget to turn off power when not in use. Also, there is no color differentiation on the volume knob, just a groove indicator, which makes it difficult to see where on the volume arc you are. Finally, the left hand speaker is hard wired, not a plug-in connection, meaning you have to be alert not to pull on the wire and degrade the connection.

I upgraded my computer speakers to this set from Bose. I was torn between these speakers and another couple of speakers available which came with a subwoofer. Ultimately, these speakers do the trick for me. The sound is clear and these suckers get very loud. I mainly use them in the basement for workouts, and they are loud enough to easily fill the basement (and have my wife upstairs yelling to turn the music down). The only thing that gave me pause is that they do not have quite the same level of bass as the speakers that come with an independent subwoofer. All of that being said, for the $100 or less price range I don't think you can really go wrong with these speakers. Unless you absolutely have to have a ton of bass (maybe for watching movies or hearing more rumble in a video game) these speakers will easily do whatever job you ask them to do, and they will leave you smiling. I wouldn't necessarily attach these to my television - but if you want high-quality sound with zero distortion at extremely loud levels (for their size), this is the speaker set for you.

These speakers look great and sound great. They were also very easy to set up on my PC. The hook up is standard so all I needed to do was disconnect the old ones and attach these in the same way. No issues with set up at all. One minor "flaw", in my opinion. It is hard to see that these speakers are "on" so I find myself leaving them on overnight after my PC is shut down. My old "cheap" speakers had a small LED light that would glow when the power was on. It was a nice reminder to turn the speakers off at the end of the day. No such way to do that here and no easy way to tell by looking at the dial that it is turned on. I needed to "paint" a line with nail polish to highlight the power/volume indicator so I could tell it was on. But a small LED would have been welcome.

The Bose speakers are a great deal. Reasonable price for descent sound quality. Easy to set up. You should consider buying this product if you want a descent sound system for your computer. I like listening to music and Youtube tutorials. They do not get super loud, but loud enough to listen to over the hum of my treadmill. Also, the cool thing about these speakers is that they don't take up a lot of space, since there are only 2 pieces you do not have to set up a bunch more wires to and from the computer. I recommend these for people who want to listen to moderately loud music from their computer for exercise or for hearing in depth instructions. If you want bass slamming, house vibrating sound, than these speakers are not for you. If you want descent sound quality, the ability to have it be decently loud, and don't want 4 different speakers than this is the set for you.

These speakers sound great. They have a very even, natural sound that sounds pleasing to the ease, with no overly harsh highs or overwhelming, drowning bass. This makes them sound great within a wide range of volumes, especially at the lower and middle volumes. They're small and easy to orient, making them great office speakers (my usage). I do wish there was some sort of power indicator light, however. I'm often forgetting they're on and walking out of the office with them powered on. For gaming, you'll likely want something a bit punchier, with peakier highs and a separate sub. Great for music and the occasional YouTube video though. They're a bit on the steep side (some speakers do sound better at this price), but for a compact, office appropriate speaker that sounds good at low to moderate volumes, this is an excellent solution.

I really enjoy these speakers. They are an excellent option for someone who isn't super picky about their speaker set up and are a great space saving option as they do not have a subwoofer. The sound quality is excellent. My only complaint is the size of the power adapter. It's pretty large and makes it difficult to plug in to an outlet if you have multiple other things plugged in (as I would assume most do at their desk). However, if you can manage to move things around or add more outlets to your situation, this really isn't that big a deal. The set up is really easy and straightforward for almost anyone, and they look really great on my desk.

As always those never ceases to put out a great audio product. They're always top of the line and the sound quality is always superb. I don't really have much complaints The only reason didn't get the five star or that they pop every 10 or so minutes I don't know if that's because of power surges at home or me doing something on the computer but it just makes a thump sound. I really love them when I'm watching movies It doesn't do the pop it's really just when I'm on the desktop doing nothing. All around I would buy these again.

Previously I had a surround sound system--then we moved. For new place, no surround sound. Got these to listen to music and watch occasional video/movie on the PC. These are adequate and meet my needs. I typically run them at close to half volume with PC volume set to about 60/100. No sub is needed as these do a decent job reproducing treble and bass. One minus another user pointed out is the speakers input jack is on right side. My computer is on left side so the 4ft cord will not reach the desktop (tower). I had to use another cable/extender. My recommendation to Bose is to include a 6ft cable instead of 4ft (1.5m). If you don't mind paying 2x as much and want to keep things small (e.g. no sub) I would consider Definitive Technology Incline speakers (no longer being made).

I got these speakers to go with my 2014 Vizio 24" TV. The LEDs sound worse than Rudy Vallee singing into a megaphone then into a tin can. I checked out the sample sound bars, but did NOT like any of them. But I wanted something in a reasonable price range so I went with computer speakers. I also needed small for the space I had on the cabinet. I remember the great sounding speakers from the 60's and 70's so I am spoiled by good quality sound. Best I could find that sounded nice! I just wish TV manufactures would get it together for sound like the LCDs had. I still keep my 32" LCD in the living room.

    Huge Upgrade from Laptop Speakers

i purchased these speakers for the great reviews, previous experience with BOSE , and the reviews from others. I had these Speakers for a Week. The sound was a huge upgrade over my laptop speakers and TV speakers. They make a Good starter speaker for people that want good sound but not a huge system. They don't take up a whole lot of space. Now the volume was ok but i had to turn it halfway up to get it to where i wanted it. (I listen to music Loud) The overall sound quality was good but the speakers lacked the bass that i like. I personally exchanged them for the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 but i would buy them if i was on a smaller Budget.

These are decent speakers for the price. You might think they're great depending on your own preferences. The sound is pretty clean with good even frequency response from high bass on up. But the low bass is just a bit boomy to be excellent in my opinion. But I guess for the small size that's better than the alternative of not enough bass. Placement might also affect this aspect a lot since there's a rear port on the speakers so perhaps if they weren't very near the wall behind my desk, something I can't change currently, the bass boominess might not be as bad. Not that it's terrible mind you. Just can't give them 5 stars.

I have a pair of the BOSE Companion 2 series speakers on a setup at work. I think they have great sound for the money, and very fews shortcomings. I did however return a recent pair I purchased for a home desktop setup, because I became more impressed with the BOSE Companion 20 series computer speakers and what they offered. I think anyone looking for mid to higher priced computer speakers, can't go wrong with any BOSE product as there is always quality and a good soundstage to be had. That said, you could always spend more to get better sound, but the Companion 2 series is a great speaker setup for the money.

The sound coming from the built-in monitor speakers I had been using was so bad I couldn't even distinguish between stereo or mono. These Bose speakers were easy to hook up, although one complaint is the cord connecting to the PC is too short. The immediate improvement in audio quality was very apparent with deeper yet clean bass, and a startling presence with good stereo separation. At times I suspected that there was some pumping going on, but that could have been artifacts from tracks that I previously cleaned up with audio enhancing software. It's also handy to have a master volume knob on the front of the right speaker for quick adjustments.

The Bose speakers were very easy to install All the cables were included in the packing and the instructions were A-B-C simple to follow. The actual sound, however, is no better than stock Dell computer speakers at about $29.00. I still haven't found a way to adjust treble and bass sound blends... not an option in the "adjust settings feature. Still, it's nice to have sound again. I just wish I had gone for stock Dells instead. Too much money on the Bose for little return.

My old JBL Creature Speakers died. Searched a lot of reviews and this set got some good reviews but some ho-hum reviews from audiophiles. For fairly inexpensive speakers, they have a good presence. The mi-range is full and the upper end is crisp and clean. Volume is very good. They lack a little in the bass, and there is not an option to connect a sub woofer. However for desktop computer speakers they are fine. These wouldn't be an audiophiles main speakers anyway. But for the price, very good. If you want powerful bass, you'll have to choose something else.

Needed these for presentations... Mostly using computer as the source... but sometimes a DVD player also. Was replacing some great Bose speakers that I had for years that had multiple inputs for both the small plugin type connector from a computer but also two of the Red/White type connectors from things like DVD players and such. Was surprised that I couldn't easily find these "multiple input" type speakers at the store. Settled for these Bose speakers with an adapter. Not as convenient as my old speakers but the sound quality remains great.
