Nice budget friendly Bose sound bar

Finally, someone has made a sound bar that not only sounds good for TV / Movies, but also for music as well! I have used probably over 20 sound bars in my lifetime and there was one thing I have always been very disappointed about….they sound absolutely horrible whenever you try to play music through them. Yes, I may be picky, some might use the term audiophile, but I just have standards when im listening to music. When I unboxed this sound bar and got it set up, I knew that it would probably sound amazing for TV and movies since I have had a couple other Bose sound bars in the past. It definitely did not disappoint. I used the HDMI connection for audio and pulled up a movie with Atmos sound. This sound bar filled up my room with sound from all directions and I was even quite impressed with the amount of bass this thing put out without having a dedicated subwoofer. I have also owned the bigger brother of this sound bar and that one puts out a lot more bass, but this one is very respectable! If you want something that will rattle the walls and wake the neighbors, you might want to add a subwoofer, but I think this will be just fine for most people. Then I just put on some old TV shows that I knew had no special kind of audio and they all sounded great as well. Perfectly balanced sound, easy to hear dialogue. You really cant ask for anything more! Then I decided to hook it up to my phone and play some High Res audio files through it. I was expecting to be completely disappointed, but I was actually pretty suprised at how good it sounded. I have had other Bose sound bars in the past and I have never liked the way music has sounded through them, but I think they finally got it right this time! The music sounded very crisp and clear and detailed. From symphonic music to heavy metal, it sounded superb. One caveat, if you push it too hard it will start to break up on you. But for low to mid volume ranges I think you will definitely be happy! Now let’s get into the design of the sound bar. Its definitely not as pretty as their higher end sound bars, and its definitely not as wide. But it will easily disappear in any home theater setup and you probably won’t even notice it’s there. You will have to use the companion app to set up a lot of the EQ features and things like that which can be a little bit of a pain if you are someone like me who doesn’t have your phone strapped to your hip 24 hours a day. But once you get things set up to your liking, you really shouldn’t ever have to make any adjustments. So, my overall opinion on this sound bar is that it will look great in your home and it will sound great whatever you play through it. I would absolutely go with this over any other sound bar, cause I have heard most of them, and they don’t sound as good as this! I have a few gripes about it. But at the end of the day it’s a sound bar, and the sound is pretty good for what it is!

Balanced sound quality as expected from Bose

The Bose Smart Soundbar, overall, is a great soundbar. It can get as loud as you want without it losing quality, and the sound has great balance. However, in my opinion and based on how I like my sound, this is just like all other Bose products. It doesn’t have as much bass as its competitors. However, its pros definitely outweigh the cons so, I think, it’s still a great soundbar. Right from the box, it’s just a little heavy so you know it wasn’t made cheaply, and the materials used is similar to how other products were built and made. There seems to be a consistency with their build and design so it matches with Bose’s other products which I like. It’s nice, simple, yet classy. Next, setting it up was very simple. I just plugged in the power cable and HDMI cable, and, afterwards, I just followed the prompts on the app. I didn’t have to download the app since I have another Bose product that uses the same one. I opened it, it automatically “saw” the soundbar, and it just asked for a confirmation to pair with it. Nice, easy, and quick! Regarding the sound, if I were to grade it, I would give it an “A”. As I said earlier, just like Bose’s other products, it doesn’t have that much bass compared to its competitors. If you like that thumping bass, I suggest buying its bass module. However, though it doesn’t have the greatest bass, it’s not like it doesn’t have bass at all. Bose prides itself in how balanced their sound quality is, and that’s exactly what you get. The bass is balanced enough so that it’s not overpowering the rest of the sound. It has a nice amount of bass to complement the rest of the sound. Another nice feature this has is the AI Dialogue. This allows to hear dialogue clearly despite the background noise. Now I’m not sure if it was AI Dialogue working or just Bose producing great sound at the time I tested this feature, but the dialogue was clearly audible. I believe you can also set up voice assistants like Google and Alexa though I haven’t been able to set this up yet. Overall, Bose made another great product. The quality of the build is great. The sound is great. The added features of being able to set up your voice assistants and the AI dialogue is great. If only this had better bass, I’d give it a 5/5! Another thing that’s preventing me from giving it a perfect score is the price. If they make this a little more affordable, then I’ll give it a perfect score. Again though, I do recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a great soundbar.

I love soundbars, they’re just so much easier than having a big home surround setup. It also helps that Bose also nail the acoustics when looking for sound separation. This soundbar has a really nice sound where it’s not bass heavy. It’s one of those rare bars that no matter what is happening you will still hear spoken word over the intense action scenes. You can also pair this with the Bose earbuds to get a fantastic surround sound experience. The design is elegant, it doesn’t get in the way and just becomes a part of your setup instead of trying to be the showpiece with dazzling lights and wacky angles. This just fits under my TV and it’s barely noticeable which is how a soundbar should be in my opinion. While earlier I said the sound is nice and not bass heavy, I do think you should really buy a sub to go with this. The bass is very shallow which is to be expected final a product of this size without muddying the kids and highs, but I do find myself wanting that little extra thump when I’m watching action movies or listening to music. Overall this is a quality soundbar

I was a little worried opening the box to find no instructions as they direct you to the app, but the Bose app has all you need, and initial setup was simply plugging in the cables. The app really is great and unlocks all the features and settings of the soundbar. The usual settings of the app let you control the sound and power which are very responsive, but then it goes deeper with audio settings. In there you have the following settings: Wall EQ - turn this setting on if you are mounting the speaker to a wall. AI Dialogue - when turned on the AI senses dialogue and adjusts to improve clarity of the words with your immersive effects. Soundbar - allows you to adjust center and high channel and the bass and treble settings. Rear Speakers - I easily connected rear speakers and here you can adjust their volume level. Sync & Delay - various settings on syncing the audio timing with your tv. The sound is great and fits with what you expect from a Bose product, all while not taking up a lot of space. The soundbar is shorter in length than most without sacrificing any sound quality. I mentioned that I also connected rear Bose speakers that was easy to do wirelessly with the Bose app. All I need now is the sub to complete the package. Overall, another great Bose product with powerful surround sound and an app that enables features to fine tune the sound to your liking.

Soundbar came beautifully packaged and delivered in one piece from my local carrier. Ive been into soundbars for around 10 years now when a pesky neighbor in a townhome had an awesome home theatre system which was a Bose home theatre system. At the time the Bose soundbar 130 was the top of the line system and it was a great soundbar that had amazing sound. We really enjoyed that Bose system except it had some drop out issues that drove me crazy. I have always been impressed with Bose auto calibration and this Bose smart soundbar is no different. Setting up is easy and straightforward so this is a good product for any home because you don’t need to be tech savvy to set it up. Connectivity is EARC and optimal so you can use this with an older tv or newer tv. We set it up in our master bedroom to help our 65” TV come alive. We mainly watch this tv at night at lower sounds and I was impressed with the dialog coming from this compact soundbar. As far as atmos effects go.. well it’s a compact soundbar and limited sound stage and I’m not sure I hear much vertical sound but dialog and sounds are crisp and clear and generally the channels are separated despite the small profile. This is a great soundbar for smaller living rooms or bedrooms but if you want a more dynamic experience you will need the sub woofer

The Bose smart soundbar has a lot to offer in such a small profile but lacks necessary inputs. The Smart soundbar is designed with quality in mind, everything from the build to the materials has a premium feel. Gone are the days where you get physical buttons on the soundbar, they are replaced with voice controls, a remote and/ the Bose app. There are only 2 ways to connect to the soundbar using a wired connection: There is an HDMI input, or for older TV’s that don’t support eARC you can use an optical cable. Having a simple AUX connection sure would have been nice…The soundbar does support Bluetooth and WIFI and allows you to connect to your TV that way, but keep in mind you limit yourself with sound quality especially if you want to experience Dolby Atmos. Setting up the soundbar can either be straightforward or challenging, depending on your TV and how new it is. It’s no longer a simple plug and play, now you have to let the app register the soundbar and connect it through WiFi before you can even start to enjoy it. In my case, I did experience some issues where I wasn’t able to get any sound, yet my TV recognized the soundbar it even let me control the volume with the tv remote. I tried the troubleshooting in the Bose app but that didn’t help me out much. Eventually, I gave up and moved it to a different TV. When I was able to get the Soundbar working correctly, I tested out some Atmos movies. I will say the sounds quality is pretty good on this soundbar, sounds are bright and offer great clarity. With the 2 angled speakers at the top, it does a good job simulating Atmos presence speakers. Voices can be heard loud and clear, and with the new AI dialog mode it automatically balances volume between voices and different sounds as to make sure you can hear them clearly. The biggest complaint I have is when it comes to bass, as this soundbar lacks in it. Luckily, I already had a Bose bass module 500, which automatically connects wirelessly to the soundbar. After I added the sub, that made a huge difference in the overall experience of the sound. Overall, there are things I think Bose did a great job with, and there are things I don’t like. I like the soundbar when it comes to clarity, build quality, and the new implemented features such as AI dialog. But I do think this should be packaged with a sub, as the soundbar alone doesn’t offer nearly enough bass. I don’t like the limited connection options they give; this puts limits who can use the product. Basically, if you have a smart TV with HDMI eARC then you’re good. But if you have an older TV, then you need to use the optical cable, if you don’t have that, then you can’t use the soundbar.

      Hello,

Thank you for reviewing the new Bose Smart Soundbar.

I am glad to hear that you love the sound quality, build and new features this soundbar offer, but sorry you are not fully satisfied with the bass result. Please note that you can adjust the tones of your soundbar within the Bose app, and increase the bass and treble. Additionally, as mentioned you can add up to 2 bass modules, to add deeper bass to your system.

If you have experienced connectivity issues the first time you connected your soundbar to your TV, via HDMI, I would suggest checking the HDMI CEC settings, within the Bose app to find the best compatible option for your system: https://bose.life/4gSqizT

So I just received my Bose Smart Soundbar 600 about a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. First off, when you see or hear the name Bose, you know its a company that's been around for ages, and that Bose produces top notch quality products that not only look good, but sound amazing as well. So that's why I opted for this Bose soundbar. As you start to unbox the packaging you'll find inside: * Bose Smart Soundbar 600 * Remote * HDMI Cable * Optical Cable * User Documentation If you have tinkered with electronics, then setup should be fairly easy and simple. But if not, just follow along with he Bose app that you will need to download from the App Store or iOS or the Google Play Store for Android. It is recommended to plug the HDMI cable into the ARC/eARC port of your TV and the other end directly into the back of the soundbar. You may also have to use the included Optical Cable like I did to get sound. Initially using just the HDMI cable I could not get sound. As stated, you will need to download the app to follow along with the rest of the installation process. You can connect this soundbar via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Once I got everything squared away, I was ready to test out the sound quality and man was I impressed. This thing is amazing. The sound quality made me feel as though I was part of the movie that I loaded up. I could hear the different sounds that were in the background as well. And using the AI Dialogue feature via the app made it even better. I have an attached streaming media stick but the soundbar works just as good with Fire TVs as well as Roku TVs. It has Dolby Atmos (which is amazing), and voice control can be enabled for Alexa or Google. It also comes with Chromecast and AirPlay to stream external content directly to the soundbar. I really love this soundbar and it has made a great addition to my bedroom TV. The not so good part about this soundbar is the remote. Bose come on, the remote it too small, hence, easy to get lost. I'm also not fond of the super flat buttons on the remote, or the fact that there's no backlight under the buttons on the remote. However, its still an amazing soundbar, just wish the remote was bigger and better.

Let’s face it AI is here and it’s not going anywhere. Now take AI, add in Bose and you’ve got the Bose Smart Soundbar. It’s an awesome addition to any home. From the minute you start using it, you can tell it’s more than just a soundbar. It works with Alexa and Google Assistant, you can control your TV, music, and even other smart devices in your home. Super convenient, especially if you’re lazy like me when you’re relaxing and don’t want to reach for the remote. Of course, sound quality is what you’d expect from Bose—absolutely top-notch. Was there ever really a doubt? The bass is deep, the mids are smooth, and the highs are super clear, making movies, music, and even regular TV sound amazing. It’s just a different experience listening through Bose. But the AI integration takes things a step (maybe a couple of steps?) further. You can easily ask it to change the volume, skip tracks, or even play a specific playlist, and it responds almost instantly. It’s pretty cool how fast and accurate it is. What’s even better is that the AI gets smarter the more you use it. Over time, it starts to remember your favorite music, stations, or settings. So if you usually play a specific playlist in the morning, it’ll remember that and make it easier for you to access. Plus, if you have other smart devices like lights or thermostats, you can control them through the soundbar too. Long story short. The sound quality is excellent, but the added convenience of voice control and smart AI makes it stand out even more. If you’re looking to take your home entertainment setup to the next level, well, basically Bose is always the answer. If it wasn’t obvious, I love Bose products…sorry, not sorry.

This newest offering from Bose is right in line with their reputation for top tier sound quality in a modern design. It is easy to set-up as it includes all necessary cables (HDMI and Optical) in the box, which gives you options depending on your TV's ports. The best method is to use the HDMI cable with an eARC compatible port, but if your TV has CEC connectivity, any HDMI port should be fine. If you're using a streamer, like the AppleTV, this will connect to that wirelessly via AirPlay and allow you to control the volume with the Apple remote. Sound is impressive for the smaller size, although it could use a little more bass. A seperate wireless module can be purchased and connected easily, but I wouldn't mind a little more punch from the bar itself. Overall, the quality of the sound is crisp and the AI built in is able to detect when there is more dialogue coming from what you're watching and will give it a little boost. That's extremely helpful for people who often need closed captions to understand what's being. The app is intuitive and offers all the customization you need for your preferences and room type. The upward and side firing speakers bounce off ceilings and walls nicely for a quasi-surround sound feel. Again, if you want to go all in, wireless rear speakers and a sub-woofer are available to pair with this. For the $499 price point, this is a solid soundbar on it's own, but the ability to add to it is a nice feature. Overall, I have no complaints with this speaker. It sounds great, looks great, and does exactly what we need it to do.

Definitely an improvement over the TV sound. Clear, crisp and meets expectations there. However, connectivity has been a pain for me when switching sources from Chrome casting YT Music back to TV (HDMI arc), Once a month I face the dreaded no sound problem. Rebooting does not guarantee and it takes me almost 15 mins of retries to get it to work again.

Hi Sam, I'm glad you prefer your Smart Soundbar over your TV speakers' sound. If you're not hearing any audio sometimes when switching between audio sources, I'd recommend taking a look at the HDMI-CEC settings in your soundbar as well, as these may need tweaking. These can be found under Settings > Power > "HDMI Power and Audio". This sound bar sounds great and it's impressive what it can do in such a small size, but overall I'm not thrilled with it. First time set up was simple and went well. You need to download the bose app, not the bose music app that the soundbar displays on screen. I hooked it up to my hdmi arc port on my Hisense TV to take full advantage of the Dolby Atmos and it sounded fantastic the first evening I watched TV. The next night of TV watching was the problem, no sound! I tried solutions for over an hour with no results. I ended up using the optical port, that gave me sound right away. That doesn't support Atmos tho. I tried again the next day and only got it working by unhooking everything from the back of the TV and hooking up the sound bar 1st. Again it only worked until I turned it off. No sound is sent to the hdmi port when powered back on. Contacting Bose support got me a couple other options to try, which didn't work and Bose hasn't gotten back to me for any further support. Hopefully there will be a fix, as reading online, many different bose soundbars have this problem. It's at too high a price point to have issues right out of the box.

Thanks for your review of the Smart Soundbar! I'm happy you love the Dolby Atmos sound, and that setting the soundbar up initially was easy enough.

The Bose Music app has indeed been rebranded as the Bose app. If you're not always getting sound via HDMI-eARC, there could be numerous reasons for this. The soundbar is not necessarily at fault, there could just be some HDMI-CEC settings that need altering. Your TV may also be in need of a firmware update.

I would suggest trying our support team again, so we can continue the troubleshooting we've tried so far, and get your soundbar and TV working seamlessly together, so you can enjoy your Dolby Atmos content!
