    Good while it lasted

    Initially, we were very pleased with this soundbar's sound quality. With the exception of the Bluetooth connection which in my opinion is not very good. The winning aspect of this soundbar is the width (less than 22 inches). It fit perfectly within our tv stand's cabinet. It is very difficult to find a compact soundbar with descent sound quality. And we honestly did not want a 3 foot bar sitting on our tv stand. This was our first soundbar, so we don't have a point of reference for comparison. But, the sound was sufficient for the small room we used it in. The voice enhancing feature was used quite frequently due to the washed out and low audio during dialog portions of movies and tv shows with the normal setting. The remote is enormous. And a bit complex to program. So, get your thinking caps on when you take on this 'task'. And finally, the deal-breaker. The reason this Bose is getting two stars is because of failure within two years of purchase. Unfortunately, I put too much trust in the brand, expecting the highest quality and performance. So, I did not purchase a protection plan. I have nothing but regret because now that $200 soundbar is a dust collecting dud right now. If you decide to get this soundbar, invest in the protection plan. Because, apparently since this is Bose's 'cheaper' model, this isn't going to generate as much revenue as their more expensive models. So, naturally these seem to be designed to fail more quickly. Needless to say, myself and my family are very disappointed. I hope that Bose will make a more reliable compact version by listening to their patron's reviews.

    Get a SoundLink Mini II instead, no bass

    I had been using a Bose SoundLink Mini II for my tv in my small living room and wanted the features this unit offered as well as what I assumed would be even better sound quality. I was extremely disappointed after installing it and comparing the sound quality between the two. The SoundLink Mini II not only comes in a smaller package, is cheaper and portable, but it has better sound quality and more bass. The bass coming out of this speaker is virtually non-existent so I'm not sure how others can say they felt no need for a subwoofer. I adjusted the bass level all the way up while listening to music and couldn't believe I'd spent so much on what I hoped would be the perfect solution for my small living room. I'll be returning this one and going with another option. If you simply want better audio quality than your tv speakers, there are many other options out there that will save you a lot of money.

    Not To Bose Standard

    I bought this sound bar at my local Best Buy yesterday. Why? We like the British shows on TV, but they are increasingly hard to understand. This is our sixth Bose purchase, and our first unsatisfactory one. The optical guide from our Sharp TV to the sound bar failed - we blame Sharp. The coax connection from Sharp to the sound bar failed - we blame the poor Bose connection. We finally succeeded by bringing audio from the cable box to the sound bar. The remote was successfully capable of programming our Sharp TV, the sound bar, and the Verizon cable box. It failed on the LG Blue Disc player. Worst of all, the Solo 5 cannot be registered on the Bose website. Sad. Is it better than our Sharp speakers? I want to say yes, but I just can't justify it.

    Not happy

    Ok. So I had a Vizio sound bar for about 5 years. Just the other day it decided to drop out. So I went to Best Buy to see what they had. First the display had been acting up and all the sound bars on display weren't working. So was sure what I was going to do. After I see only ONE sound bar was working within the budget. The Bose solo 5. Pros It's a Bose It wasn't insanely priced It's loud It's got some good bass Comes with optical cord Bluetooth Cons No exterior buttons Have to use the remote to turn volume up down and on/off so now I have yet another remote laying around. Every other sound bar( that I couldn't preview sound on) had external buttons. What make Bose so special they don't include them.

    I purchased this sound bar in November of 2016 and the first 3 months it worked great. However in march I began to experience crackling in the sound as the volume was turned up. These things happen sometimes, so I sent it into Bose to have it serviced. In their defense they handled that great however when I received it back the problem was not fixed. I had to send it back to then AGAIN. Now I usually put Bose as one of the more quality and trustworthy sound companies so this purchase was a bit of a let down. Since the second repair it has been working well again. For Bose sake, I hope my experience was a fluke

    HAVE HAD THIS FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE TRYING TO PROGRAM REMOTE THE TV AND CABLE BOX. SOMETIMES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET PROGRAMED BUT MOSTLY NOT. HATE THE REMOTE. CANNOT BELIEVE BOSE MAKES SUCH A USER UNFRIENDLY REMOTE. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO HANDLE. CAN'T BELIEVE REMOTE IS NOT BACK LIGHTED. WOULD RETURN BUT MARKED UP REMOTE WITH NAIL POLISH SO COULD SEE BUTTONS IN DARK. FINALLY--ONLY USE BOSE REMOTE TO TURN ON AND OFF. BACK TO USING REMOTE THAT CAME WITH CABLE BOX. HAS BASICALLY BEEN MORE TROUBLE THAT IT'S WORTH.

    I contemplated buying after testing the demo months before I purchased. I was impressed with the demo in the store and went between it and the Vizio priced much cheaper. I was disappointed when I got it home because I didn't feel like the sound quality was near what I had experienced with the demo. If I had it to do over, I would have spent less money and purchased the Vizio which has noticeable bass. This does not. Even after turning up the bass, I noticed no difference. I wanted a rich sound experience, not just a speaker. I paid for rich sound and simply got sound. The $99 Vizio has richer sound but the price is more like a simple speaker.

    With this sound bar being made by Bose - you can count on the sound quality being good. I can't argue with that. My main use of it is to use the digital out sound from a television to it. My issues with the sound bar are that it's hard to switch inputs (Bluetooth, aux, etc). I've had trouble with it not turning on as expected. It's getting more and more erratic in its functions. I really wish there was an app to manage functions. I consider myself pretty tech savvy, but using the Bose Solo 5 sound bar causes me more frustration than anything else.

    I've been very pleased with previous Bose products but I'm sorry to say I'm disappointed with the Solo 5 sound bar. Audio quality is fine but there is too much base response and as a result there is a very audible "thump" in the audio. So far I haven't been able to reduce/modify the base response of the unit to reduce this annoying sound. Instructions state that the Solo 5 remote can be programmed to operate other devices; so far I've been unsuccessful in programming the remote to accommodate this feature. Sorry Bose this product doesn't meet expectations!!

    Ok but returned

    I have a large room where the TV is located and I had a VISIO sound bar with that TV. I was never happy with the VISIO. There are some tones that I have trouble hearing and I was having trouble with dialog in some shows. I purchased this Solo 5 soundbar and I was disappointed with the sound quality, not much better than the VISIO. I returned the Solo 5 and purchased the Bose Soundtouch soundbar. Big difference! I especially like the dialog mode. In my opinion, don't waste you money on the Solo 5.

    Not the best sound bar on the market for a bedroom, look to a Samsung with a subwoofer if your okay spending 200+ on a speaker set. I returned this and purchased the Sonos Beam and I am blown away at the difference in sound quality, array and base. You will be disappointed like I was with this bose product. I had high hopes from Bose but stay away from this made in China junk.

    This sound bar provides better sound that my TV speakers - that's the best thing I can say about it. It is not "great" sound, but it's OK. What I'm really disappointed in is the remote control. I was hoping I could get rid of one or two of my four remotes, but not so. When I went back to the store to discuss it, the associate told me the only way I could do that was to buy another remote (for about $150). I'm not very happy with this purchase.

    Sounds good. I don't like that when I connect it bluetooth or wireless it cuts out little at first then constantly.... you would here little music then pause music pause music longer pause etc. However connected with wire to TV works good but sometimes it doesn't keep up with TV and mouths move but we hear it a few seconds later. Overall yes good sound just hate the other stuff...

    For a "name brand" such as Bose, I expected a product unsurpassed in sound and fullness. I have a Bose stereo and CD deck now, and it has a much fuller sound to it. I've had the product in question for approximately 3 weeks now and am planning on taking it back to Best Buy to exchange for another type ... provided of course, that Best Buy will allow me to do that.

    After reading the reviews I hesitated purchasing this Bose sound bar, but bought it anyway. This Bose is disappointing in sound, missing base, etc. There are cheaper ones that sound better, but I purchased because of ease of installation, however, still unable to link it with my other remotes. I will use it in a bedroom and probably purchase a Sonos when able to.

    I don't think this soundbar is worth the money, I have had it roughly 2 months and it seems to have already gone fuzzy when a regular tv show has some bass. I have adjusted the Bass all the way down, but it still seems to make the fuzz/rattle sound. I would expect this from a Vizio brand, but not from Bose. I actually heard a samsung that sounded much better than this one at a friends.

    If you want any bass at all, this is not the sound bar for you. I read plenty of online reviews for this sound bar before I bought it and while it generally gets very high reviews, I was absolutely unimpressed with the sound quality. Granted, it doesn't come with a subwoofer, so maybe I was expecting too much before my purchase. It is, however, extremely easy to hook up.

    Made very little different in sound quality, and the universal remote--froze pictures on cable stations if you went to HD. The remote not as flexible as the cable remote--so you still to use both I need clarity in the spoken word--the Bose did not deliver--I really wanted it to work--disappointed--still searching.

    I had these speakers for 1.5 years and they just died on me. Out of warranty and would have costed $100 to be fixed (only $200 new). They worked fine while they lasted but not the quality I expected from Bose. I would not recommend these speakers.

    The worst sound bar

    By far the worst choice for a sound bar I could have made. It’s terrible. I’m very disappointed in Bose. I thought they were supposed to be a leader in electronics. It’s a shame they charge so much for TV’s theses days and can’t put good speakers in them.
