I may have a bit of an obsession with Bluetooth speakers. I like having larger units (Bose SoundLink III, Beats Pill XL) and smaller units for different on-the-go situations (Bose SoundLink Color, UE Boom). I recently purchased the SoundLink Color as more of a permanent fixture in my bathroom, a speaker that I can just leave on the shelf and use whenever I'm taking a shower or bath. I previously had a UE Boom in there but I was constantly moving it to my patio or taking it to the pool. So how does the SoundLink Color fair? It's not bad. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by both the audio quality and volume that this speaker produces for its price. I'm really only going to compare this to the UE Boom speaker (now available for $180) as that is the only small speaker baseline I have. I actually prefer the sound quality of the SoundLink Color. The highs aren't as present but the bass really does kick in more. It's to the point where it makes the UE Boom sound as if it doesn't have any bass drivers at all (it actually has two). Metal, techno/dubstep, rap/hip-hop, and rock really standout with the SoundLink Color. The added bass makes the bass drum thump more and brings techno/dubstep songs more to life. The plastic design of the SoundLink Color does leave a bit to be desired, especially compared with the UE Boom. The plastic casing does flex a bit and the control buttons on top feel somewhat mushy. The plastic body does seem less fragile than the aluminum SoundLink Mini but, at the same time, I would be worried about it cracking or scratching if I dropped it whereas I have dropped my UE Boom before and it was fine. Bose has thankfully adopted micro USB for charging unlike with the SoundLink Mini. The battery life does leave a bit to be desired. Bose rates it at 8 hours and I typically get about 10 hours. I normally play music once a day for about an hour and it will last for 10 days before needing to be recharged. While that isn't bad, my UE Boom typically pushes the 16 hour mark. It's still better than the Beats Pill 2 but Ultimate Ears (which is owned by Logitech) really seems to have set the standard. The SoundLink Color also isn't water resistant unlike the UE Boom. I've splashed my UE Boom with water, accidentally dropped it in the pool (it was recovered within 10 seconds), it's been covered in dirt (I just ran it under the sink to clean it), and it's set in wet grass before all without issues. It still looks brand new and doesn't show any signs of wear or tear. The SoundLink Color just can't do any of that. In fact I hesitate even using it in the bathroom since condensation does build up on surfaces in there. I really wish Bose would have made it more durable. All-in-all, this is a solid speaker and the sound quality really can't be matched at $130. I knocked it down from 5/5 stars as I would have liked to see Bose make it more durable, at least water resistant. It also would have been nice to have this last for 15 hours instead of 10 (though some people are getting 8-9 hours). Lastly, more features would have been nice such as having the ability to pair two SoundLink Color speakers to use them in stereo mode like what you can do with the UE Boom and Beats Pill speakers. I recommend the SoundLink Color if you don't want to spend $180-$200 on the UE Boom, are looking for better sound quality, and don't require the ruggedness of the UE Boom. Otherwise I recommend saving up your money to get the more expensive UE Boom as it is still the standard when it comes to Bluetooth speakers (good sound quality, great durability, excellent battery life, tons of features including double up and a custom EQ, firmware updates).

I was in the market for a portable Bluetooth speaker for a party at my apartment complex's club room. I looked at Beats by Dr. Dre as my first choice. I read about JVC and finally decided to go to my local Best Buy. I tested out the Beats and top of the line Bose speakers. The sales person I worked with was very knowledgeable and after explaining my needs he turned my attention to this more affordable Bose speaker. The sound quality of this speaker superseded Beats by a large margin and was on par eight the more expensive Bose speakers but this speaker was on sale for a little over $100 which is a steal!! The speaker gave amazing sound at my party and I love that I can be in another room in my 1800 square feet apartment and wirelessly hook up my iPhone or iPad and enjoy music, sermons, etc. I'm currently using it to play rain and thunder sounds on YouTube as background noise while I sleep but I'm sure it'll come in handy for much more especially during the summer. The speaker is very functional and easy to use. Downside is it is not very attractive and just basic looking- although it comes in a few more colors thank black, it does not charge your iPhone or other electronic devices like some other speakers in its class will and after about 4 hours or so of uninterrupted use it turns itself off. All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase and I don't regret my choice at all!!!

Great speaker for stationary use, not travel

When I first saw Bose release these, I was a bit confused as to where they fit in the lineup. There's the Soundlink Mini and then the Soundlink, and this was more of an entry into the Bose brand. With the price you really can't complain, but it still seems odd to see plastic\colors from Bose. If you're looking for something a bit rugged for around the house that's easy to move and take outside, to the kitchen, bathroom, etc, this is your guy. It's cheap, good quality, nice bose sound, and easy to afford. If you're looking for travel portability this definitely isn't your best option. I found even the Bose Soundlink Mini to be a bit hefty for my personal tastes in terms of packing for international travel. This model is FAR too big to pack in the corner of a travel bag.... unless you're taking a trunk for the week or month LOL. If you want portable, you probably will prefer the SoundLink Mini. If you want really portable you may want to look at a Jambox Mini, which you'll sacrifice sound quality with. If you want cheap, but bose sound, but be able to move it around the house, this product is decent.

Other family members had larger Bose Bluetooth speakers, and I loved the sound and portability, but I didn't want to pay $200. When I saw the SoundLink Color on sale just before Christmas, I knew I had to buy it. I needed something to give me sound in the kitchen while cooking throughout the holidays (music on iPhone, movies and shows on MacBook Pro), and it was wonderful. I use it all the time now. The only downside is that connecting back and forth between different devices can be confusing and uncertain at times. And there is no troubleshooting info - you are on your own to figure out whether you are doing something wrong, the device is being slow, etc. Also, I was watching a show, and mid-way the sound became intermittent. I had to figure out on my own after some time and frustration that two devices were connected to the speaker at the same time. But these problems only happened once or twice, and once I learned (without the help of Bose), everything was fine. If Bose offered basic Troubleshooting info with the package, I would have rated this product with 5 stars.

Purchased the Bose Soundlink to use around the house, yard, and when camping. To date, it has been used about 30 out of 40 days indoors only so far with the shortest useage about an hour, longest useage about 9 hrs. Battery life: about as noted, one day it was used 9 hrs continuously at low / mid volume on battery power only. Charging via AC adapter or USB is convenient and it can be used while on the charger. Sound quality: About as I was expecting with fullness throughout the range. Song lyrics were more easily understood than I was expecting. In my opinion about the same quality sound as the Bose Mini at easy listening volumes. It has not been used at high volume levels. Other people commented that it sounded good for the size. Much better sound than a smaller $30 unit that circulates around the house. Overall rating: Very Good only because I am sure there better ones available someplace at a higher cost. It is handy to move around and the black one blends into surroundings quite well. It has not been used outside or in large rooms yet.

This little bluetooth speaker is awesome! It has great sound that I can hear quite clearly even from another room. I can leave my device in one room, and the speaker remains connected when I take it two rooms away - and close the door between. The bases are quite , well, basey, and the highs are distinguishable. Sometimes the sound gets a bit mottled, but that is more of a device issue rather than the speaker. I also like that it does not have to be charged every five minutes, meaning, I can listen to music or watch shows on my tablet for hours (or days - it's usually running in the background) before having to plug in and charge up. Seriously thinking about getting a second one for travelling. If Bose ever decides to make improvements on this item, I have one suggestion: Add a button to advance to the next song. I've been burned by bad speakers, even some somewhat pricey ones. I can honestly say, if you've tried the rest, and have been sorely disappointed by poor quality sound, definitely give this speaker a go.

I needed this at the last minute for a cookout. I wanted waterproof for outdoor use, but did not like the quality of the other speakers. I played with them all at the store, even connecting my music to it. I also spoke to a sales rep to show me differences. This speaker puts out a great amount of power & volume. Did not sound tinny at all. The sound quality is excellent with my bluetooth iPhone itunes & Pandora. The quality was not so great when we hooked up a Samsung phone with Pandora. But didn't experiment enough to find out why or if it was because I had an apple iTunes device connected to it as well. Quick charge & long battery life. I bought it in black because I had heard that the lighter colors picks up the dirt easily. I had it sitting on both table & in grass & sound was great in both. I have yet to recharge it or use it for the full battery life, so that is why i gave it a 4 star. I am sure I would pass it with 5 stars had I used it again. I will use it again, I just haven't yet.

Comparing this to another speaker, this thing has tremendous sound. Range is okay, but not great around block walls, in my case from my garage to my pool, which is only about 5'. If there is no barrier, i.e. through an open window, the signal is strong. The battery lasts about 6 hours or so on medium volume. Easy to set up and pair. Reason I dropped it a star is because the last two times I used it, I had previously fully charged it, and the power button wouldn't power the unit on. I then thought well maybe it didn't charge, or it discharged for some reason, so I plugged the power cord back in. The power button then worked, even when I unplugged the power cord. Not sure if it needed a quick shot of juice to realize it had battery power or what. We'll see...maybe it needs returned for this flaw. Otherwise, the sound is great.

Powerful speaker with all the things you love about Bose speakers. I love connecting directly to my phone and play music anywhere anytime. The pros: The size is compact and fits in backpacks, the construction is solid and feels like it would take some abuse, the sound is amazing, and the charging system means no batteries to buy. The cons: Does not come with a case and the optional case for sale is nice, but small and does not hold the charging cord and wall jack and because of the small case it does not protect the speaker from turning on accidentally in your bag i.e. when you want to listen to it, there is a dead battery, and lastly the volume is powerful but one directional meaning it does'nt do well in the middle of a party. You have to station it in a location that faces the audience. Other then that, a great system and after doing my research was the best option for the money. Wish it was water proof!!

The Bose Soundlink Color is a very good BT speaker, if you can forgive a couple of omisions. I also own the Logitech UE Mini Boom, so I can compare it to that model. The sound on the Bose is very good and better than the UE, since the Bose creates more bass, but the sound on the Bose also seems more uni-directional than the UE. Both speakers recharge using a standard micro USB cable, and the Bose includes a nice collapsible AC charger that is very portable. You don't neccesarily need to take it with you though since the speaker will recharge from just about any AC-to-USB adapter, or a USB port on your PC. One more knock against the Bose is that it does not have speakerphone capability, something the UE does have. For that and the fact that they charge an extra $25 to get a neoprene case (which for the price should just be included), I give it a solid 4 stars.

Great Speaker but Replaced After 3 Months w/plan

Love this speaker. I had to knock off 1 star because my unit failed. I'm not going to repeat other positives about the speaker's features. Just my experience regarding a possible issue with some units I read about and my experience. When I originally researched this speaker I found a few negative reviews on the Bose site about early battery failure. So I added the BestBuy 2yr replacement plan at purchase. Glad I did because the speaker did die after about 3 months possibly due to the same battery issue I had seen in the Bose reviews. Mine died suddenly while playing and charging at the same time. Something to think about if you're going to purchase this. I'm just now on my second unit and since I've got the replacement plan it's not that big an issue for me. Otherwise, sound quality and ease of use, this is hand-down the best bluetooth speaker I've ever owned. It is well worth the price.

Great Sound for a Small Speaker

I purchased this for my nursery so we can play music and lullabies for our baby. We chose this one because our friends recommended it (they have the same one) and we wanted something small enough to fit nicely on a bookshelf (and look nice too with the stylish mint color). We wanted good sound quality, but did not require a huge amount of bass or volume for our needs (smaller room and moderate volume). It's perfect so far. Out of the box it quickly paired with my iPhone and sounded great with different genres of music including hip-hop, jazz, electronic, and rock. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a simple small size speaker at a decent price with good sound. But if you're looking for a speaker to fill a large room with loud volume and booming bass, you may want to scale up to a larger (and likely more expensive) speaker option.

A little background. I own the Bose Soundlink Mini, UE Boom, UE Mini Boom, and a few other low to mid-range portable "mini" Bluetooth speakers. I have been impressed by this Bose. It fits squarely between the Soundlink Mini and the UE Mini Boom. It has the mid range heavy sound typical of Bose speakers but has vey clear and defined highs and well rounded, albeit a little weak bass. Don't get me wrong, the bass is definitely there and sounds great but it's not booming. Sound does distort a bit at max volume but I never listen to it that loud because it's not comfortable. The red version looks very sharp too. If you're looking for a portable Bluetooth speaker around the $100 price range this is a great option.

I received the Bose - SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker as a gift and am very pleased with it. However, I have nothing other than a speaker on a "Pringles" can to compare it to. I play music from a Kindle or my Samsung Galaxy S4. The sound from this Bose speaker is very clear. It would be nice if there was some type of indicator to let you know how far the volume will go up or down; there are only up and down arrows. Same with the battery life, there should be some better indication of how much battery life is left. Other than that, it was super easy to sync to my devices and I love that I can carry it to any room of the house with me and look forward to taking it outside and camping as well.

Easy to connect. Maybe it's annoying when you have multiple family members trying to connect so haven't figured out how easy it is or not to switch between bluetooth devices. Definitely loud. i listen to it while in the shower. i wish Bose made a traveling case for it so i could attach it to a bicycle or a hiking back pack. doesn't get the fifth star because you can't change songs on the speaker itself. satisfied with the charing time, even though i haven't sat there counting every minute it's on.

This was given to me as a gift. I forgot about it for a year & a half. I am in my fifties so the need for a Bluetooth speaker is rare. I used it at an event and the put it up. During the holidays, I pulled it back out. I charged it up but when unplugged, it did not work. It only worked if plugged in. I was very disappointed since it had been used a handful of times and since it was over a year old, no warranty. Bose is replacing it with me having to pay just about the original retail price. If you buy or receive this, buy Best Buy's warranty and use it! The sound is great. When I get my expensive replacement, I will be using it more often.

This is a good combination of great sound you'd expect from a Bose product and good value for the price ($129.99). I listened to several speakers in Best Buy's store and read lots of reviews before settling on this model--then I had to choose a color! (I picked red because one cannot have too much color in their life, and rarely do you get to choose!) Bluetooth pairing with one or more devices is smooth and easy. The sound is rich and volume is plenty loud enough when I need it. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that the speaker does not have skip forward/back buttons (you have to do this from your device). This wasn't a deal breaker for me, though.

I've had my Sound Link Speaker just under two months. I don't use it that much but I've been very happy with the volume and quality of sound. It connected easily to my laptop the first time, but the second time was hard, but that was due to my laptop (which was an unhappy Best Buy purchase). But so far, this device has great sound quality, good battery life. And the included stereo mini plug for direct connection is great for those times blue tooth devices are uncooperative. And IMHO, even though battery life is good on this device for the amount of volume it puts out, the AC cable is invaluable based on experience with battery only devices.

While traveling on Spring Break to the Florida Keys, I realized that I did not pack my portable speaker. Not knowing if the property we were renting would have outdoor speakers near the pool, I decided to purchase an inexpensive Bluetooth speaker. I was very surprised to find out that a Bose speaker was this reasonable - $100 price range. The sound is clear and with a decent range of highs and lows and lives up to the Bose standard - with stylish color choices, sleek design and rechargeable. I was very pleased with this purchase and would recommend this product for both a value purchase, compact design and a quality sounding speaker.

It's a nice device that is super portable and with good sound but for some reason, I have to turn it on and off a few times to get it to connect to blue tooth. And when I use the AUX function, with a cord, it seems I need to turn on the blue tooth, wait for it to first try to connect to my laptop and then be available for a new connection. Also, this is not Bose's fault, I don't think, but every time I use the device with my Mac, ITunes pops up whether that's what I want to listen to or not (usually not). I've called both Bose and Apple about this and there is no workaround, at least not for my Mac, which is only about two years old.
