      Hello, DoodleBug.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker II. We're happy to hear that you're enjoying the speaker's excellent sound quality.

It is concerning to learn about the difficulties that you're experiencing with your controls and battery. We would first recommend rebooting your system with the following steps:

      1. Connect the speaker to power
      2. Press and hold the Multi-function button (3 dots) for 10 seconds, and while continuing to hold the Multi-function button, unplug the speaker from power
      3. Release the Multi-function button and then reconnect the power cable. Please look for a slowly blinking orange light that indicates successful charging.
      4. Please allow the speaker to charge for about 15 minutes before powering on the speaker and testing the volume controls with some music.

If the issue persists, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team at 1-800-367-4008 for further assistance. They are available M-F 9 AM to 9 PM Eastern. Thank you, and have a great day!

This is the first speaker I bought. Volume up on the device you are using since even though the speaker has volume buttons, I find they don't turn it up as well.

Sounds great, water resistance is excellent, I use it in the shower no problems. Only downsides are that bass is a little boomy for podcasts with no way to adjust it that I can find, and the volume buttons just control the volume of the attached device, so turning the volume up and down is a little sluggish. Overall, highly recommended, sounds great and has plenty of volume.

Really great sound! The size is perfect so I can have it on a small table. The only issue I have is that the volume buttons are so light I can hardly see them.

It has a tendency to disable the on/off button and to reset it there is a process you have to go thru that we discovered in a troubleshooting help online. My daughter returned her first speaker and had similar troubles with the second but when my friend was experiencing the same problems we sought the solution online. It has to be reset frequently and the instructions to reset the switch aren't provided with the product. Great sound when it works and good battery life.

I've owned several bluetooth speakers. While this is the most expensive one I've bought, both of the cheaper ones had short lifespans. Volume buttons stopped working....battery life dimished. The Bose continue to stand tall!

We had the prior model which was great for two years till the battery died. This version doesn't seem to have advantages - buttons aren't responsive, requires an app download, and oddly didn't come with the USB charger plug, just a cable. It still sounds fine, but use is less convenient. BECAUSE other products don't seem much better (we have 2 competing product) I will still recommend this product.

The big "but" to this great speaker is this: When it discharges completely it then, when reconnected to the charger, automatically tries connecting to Bluetooth. Then you have to press the button to get it back. And while driving sometimes. So you inevitably hit the wrong buttons trying to quickly, safely get it back. Can you say insane?

Like the speaker for low to medium volume. Not louder then medium though. Seems to get distorted a bit and the volume buttons are very troublesome. You have to push and push definitely not with ease. Bluetooth connection is great. Keeps a good charge for people that want to take it out. Good to use w Alexa Echo Dot. Find myself wiring to the JBL or the Bose Wave a lot for music. Not totally dissatisfied just not what I expected I guess for a Bose product as I said we have othe Bose products and they are great.

Really would prefer no stars. I've purchased two Soundlink color speakers in the past year, one only a couple of months ago and neither one of them will turn on or charge. I've researched it and spent way too much time holding buttons down, and putting the plug in or taking it out. Who has time to do all kinds of freaking maneuvers when you want to listen to it? The oldest one had been plugged in and connected to my echo dot for about a year, it worked well enough until just recently. The one that's a few months old had only been used four or five times. It was kept in a case when not in use. I like the sound of Bose, but they won't be getting any more of my hard-earned money. So disappointed. Interestingly enough, they were bought far enough apart that it couldn't have been a bad batch. When I searched the internet for a "fix" there were lots of people having the same problem. Now, $250 dollars and 1 year later I've a blue and orange paperweight because that's all they're good for...grrrrrrr.

I bought this speaker as a gift to myself for Christmas 2018. The sound button did not work throughout the 3 months I owned it. I had to turn it up and down with my phone's output volume. in April it was sitting on top of my computer and was bumped off and fell a total of 16 inches. That was it. It broke and would not turn on again. I was really unhappy with this. I called Bose and they ran through some ways that they could get it back working. None worked. So they immediately said they would exchange it for a new one. I sent my old one in with a pre-paid UPS label they sent me. They said the whole exchange would take 10 days. It only took 3 for them to send me my new speaker. This replacement works as intended and the volume goes up and down as designed. The sound quality is excellent and can fill up a large room. I have it in my office and people complement me on the sound all the time. The lows and highs are perfect.

Amazing Sound If Your Expectations Are Right

Most "portable" bluetooth speakers are either (1) very small novelty speakers that have poor sound and unimpressive battery life, or (2) are very large and have great sound and mediocre battery life (or are AC-dependent). Portability always comes with sacrifices. The best bluetooth speakers are not sensibly portable - they are bulky and typically require AC power. The weight and size usually contribute to the quality of the bass in the music and AC power is usually needed to push-out an impressive volume. This Bose Soundlink Color II portable speaker is designed around smart compromises: it focuses on clarity of sound over powerful volume and packs that sound into a portable size with an impressive battery life. I found that if you use the speaker according to the directions, you can get clear reproduction of your music even at maximum volume. The front of the speaker is full range and the bass is pumped-out from the back of the speaker (like a tiny subwoofer) - you get the best sound if the speaker is slightly elevated with the back of the speaker near a wall (or something solid that will reflect the bass). Again, what is impressive is the clarity, not the volume of the music and I'm very OK with that. The bluetooth reception is great - the guidelines recommend keeping your bluetooth music source within 30-ish feet of the speaker and in a clear line of sight but I was able to stream without dropouts from two rooms away (at 30+ feet with two walls separating my iPod and the speaker). The speaker also takes input from an aux cord. When the speaker is paired with a smartphone, it can be used as a speakerphone (the speakerphone feature works really well! @@@@@@@ and you can do simple navigation of your music tracks using the buttons on top of the speaker. The speaker allows you to connect to two mobile devices at once - so, for example, you can connect with your smartphone and stream music from someone else's bluetooth device (that's one of those features that sounds excessive until you use it the first time). The exterior is a soft silicone that's water resistant - the buttons have a soft feel to them and work very well. The specifications for the speaker advertise an 8 hour battery life per charge - I've never been in a situation where I've tested it for that long but I've gone 5 hours at full volume with no sign of it quitting on me. So there's that. There are only two issues I've had with the unit so far and neither one is a deal breaker. The first issue is that it took the speaker longer to charge than I expected - but I think my expectations might have been off base with that (not everything can charge fully in an hour). The second issue is a strange one - on the top of the speaker is a button that's not identified in the literature that comes with the device - it is an input selector button that changes the input from bluetooth to the aux input - I had to go to the full user's manual online to figure out what that button was for (the quick setup guide included with the speaker neither identifies nor describes what the button is for). But back to expectations. I'm not aware of any speaker that can push-out volume and rich bass in a battery-driven device with a small footprint. This speaker is truly portable and solid (the Bose web page describes the weight as being "just a little more than a football") - the sound is very clear and you can fill a room with sound but don't expect to rock-out your whole house - the speaker adds a clean layer of bass to supplement the music (it fills-out the music but it won't rattle the furniture). Bose has focused on clarity of sound, portability of size, and the utility of having a dependably long battery life. This Soundlink Color II is magnificent for what it is - but you have to be realistic with your expectations - if you want more power or more bass you're going to need a much bigger unit (probably an AC unit). Oh.and the aquatic blue is definitely the best color!

If you're looking for a good sounding, easy to pair speaker...this is the one. Build quality: Excellent. This speaker is covered in a rubber type material that makes it easy to grip when wet (yes, speaker is "waterproof"! more like splash resistant, but still good). The speaker has a nice weight to it, but isn't heavy...but heavy enough to not feel cheap. Features: As I said before, waterproofish. I use this speaker mainly in the shower. Speaker sounds great, and pairing was easy. I had the speaker out of the box and paired in just a few minutes. There are voice prompts built in to the speaker that guide you through the pairing process. The buttons on the top are very useful. There is a power button, a button to turn bluetooth off (to use an aux cord), volume up and down, and a multifunction button. The multifunction does usual play/pause, next/previous.....but also lets you control the voice assistant on the phone. Hold it down for a couple seconds and up pops siri (with an iPhone at least), the speaker has a built in microphone for talking to siri...so I can get a weather report in the shower. Also doubles as a speaker phone, you can answer and hang up the call with the multifunction button (ok...I don't use this in the shower). There is also a Bose Connect app, that allows you to change some settings on the speaker, such as turning off the voice assistant (which states which device is connected to, and the battery level when you turn on the speaker). If you turn it off, you just go by a light on the top of the unit for battery level. I DID have trouble getting this app to find the speaker to connect to it, and then a few minutes in it randomly found the speaker and worked as advertised. You cannot, however, get two of these and pair them to create a stereo effect as you can with some other speakers on the market. I also have not paired more than one device (I believe you can do 20), so I'm not sure how well the handing off between devices will work. Verdict: EXCELLENT speaker. Waterproof, good sound, good battery life. Good buy.

    Great little speaker!!

The speaker ships with only a partial charge so I had to charge it when I opened it. It includes a USB jack so it can be charged by plugging it into your computer. However, it doesn't include a block for the USB and it doesn't include a plug in adapter. Fortunately, I have several chargers so I was able to use my Kindle charger to charge the speaker. It also has NFC pairing - NFC is a technology that enables Bluetooth devices to establish wireless communication with each other by simply touching the devices together. I tried that with my t.v. and it worked perfectly. The setup was so simple and easy that it took almost no time at all. The box doesn't include a very good instruction guide, and the safety guide was impossible for me to read because the font is very small. So, I looked for a guide online and was fortunate enough to find easy instructions to pair the speaker with my phone and computer. I also found a video that demonstrated how to pair it with my Firestick. Pretty embarrassing to say the least. The 7-year old boy in the video gave very clear and easy instructions. I should have been able to do it without help. When I saw the video I realized that all I needed to do was turn on the t.v. - Go to settings, Controllers & Bluetooth Devices, Other Bluetooth devices and choose Pair, unpair and manage other Bluetooth devices. The speaker has voice prompts to assist with pairing. The prompts clearly tell you what device the speaker is paired to (LG phone etc) and also what the battery level is. But if you don't want the voice prompt it can be disabled. Bose also has a free app you can download to your phone or device to control the speaker and switch between devices connected to the Bose SoundLink II. I chose not to use the app because I have no space on my phone for more apps. There's also a USB jack to plug in devices that might not have Bluetooth capability. It's listed as being able to keep track of 8 devices. Also, the speaker remembers multiple audio sources, so you can switch back and forth between a phone, a computer, etc You can also use the SoundLink as a speakerphone to make and receive calls. When you receive a call the voice prompts announces it and you can easily answer your phone with no loss of connection. There's a built-in microphone so you can answer calls without having to pick your phone up. When you end the call the speaker will automatically begin playing music again. The speaker is available in multiple colors - Soft Black, Polar White, Coral Red and Aquatic Blue. I got the the black speaker, but if I decided to purchase another one I would get the blue. Reviews say that it's actually turquoise which I would love. The covering is a durable soft-touch silicone exterior. It feels good to hold it and it seems like a well made and sturdy product. It's very lightweight and portable ( 5.16" H x 5" W x 2.19" Deep and 1.2 lbs) so you can easily bring it just about anywhere. If you like to move around a lot or listen to music or news outside, this speaker is great for that. The product features state that it can connect wirelessly from up to 30' away. I found that to be true. I put the speaker in my bedroom doorway while I was painting my kitchen two rooms away and the sound was great- loud and very clear. The Bose speaker is water resistant, meaning it won't affect it if you get a few drops of water on it. From the manufacturer- "IPX4-rated water resistance, and durability tested against water sprayed in all directions for 5 minutes straight." However, it's not waterproof or immersible/submersible so it can't be used in water and it can't be totally submerged in water. All the buttons - Power, Bluetooth indicator, volume, language selector and Multi-function- are on the top for easy access and the charging port/headphone jack are on the sides. The only issue I had was that the buttons are very hard to see. They're either white or a very light gray and they blend in so much with the black background that they're almost not visible. Battery life is suppose to be about 8 hours. I used it for seven with no problem. The speaker costs about $129.95 and it comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty but you can also purchase additional coverage. It doesn't include a carrying case but you can purchase one for $24.99. Most importantly, the speaker sounds fantastic, much better than I expected from such a small speaker. The quality of the sound is very good. The sound is full, rich and clear and the volume is surprisingly loud.
