This is Exactly what I wanted from Bose, a water resistant speaker and tough enough to handle extream situations, I'm currently deployed in Afghanistan and this speaker is loud enough with perfect bass for its size, the sound quality is unmatched to the JBL flip 3 I have, though the JBL is louder but does not that the quality or bass I wanted.
You get what you pay for with Bose products, now mind you this is a tiny speaker so don't think you are gonna get the sound like the Soundlink Mini, it's a bigger speaker thus bigger sound. But if your looking for light weight and durable to carry into any situations, this is the speaker for you.
I highly recommend this product for any Bose fan

SO much sound from a small package!

Tons of sound coming from this little speaker! I own several Bose products, including 3 Bose Soundlink Mini speakers... this speaker comes very close to them in sound and build. BTW, the app allows for Party or Stereo mode when connecting a pair. A nice feature.
Packaging and set-up: Packaging is Bose standard: quality and careful packaging. Once unpacked, the speaker includes instructions, warrant info, as well as a USB cable and power adapter. The setup is easy: connect via Bluetooth to your device and install the Bose Connect application. Be sure to install all updates as needed in order to keep the unit compatible with other devices (and sometimes add new & exciting features).
Build and sound: The build is great! Heavy enough to let you know that it's well crafted, yet light enough for portability. The silicon coating and waterproof design makes it durable and worry-free. The sound is amazing for such a small speaker. It's loud and maintains a good tonal balance. A lot of research and development went into this product. The silicon strap allows for easy mounting on bags, bikes, belts or even cabinet handles.... very versatile placement. (I’ve include pictures for reference).
Final conclusion: This is definitely worth acquiring if you need a great portable speaker for hiking, biking or just for use around the pool. Moisture resistant, so no worries. The price is reasonable, especially considering the quality. Bose recently released several amazing products, so take a listen. This is a company that has evolved so much over the past few years, and all for the better! I look forward to seeing what’s in store for the future.

Best little speaker you can get. It’s small and compact easily transportable the bass on it gives my movies /music that extra kick .Since it’s encased with the silicon it’s durable and water resistant.Connects via Bluetooth instantly.I also connect it to my laptop which has a crappy speaker and now the audio is clear and vibrant.Charges fast and has a strap to attach it to something if you choose to carry it around.

I'm old enough to remember when Bose was new to the mainstream commercial market and a home that had their Wave system was 'high-falutin'. I cut my teeth on Bose products when I finally had money of my own and was stepping into the audiophile world. I quickly moved past Bose into the ethereal realms of speakers and headphones, but always had a soft spot for Bose, even though it seemed like they were consistently getting beat at their own game. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see and hear Bose come out swinging with the SoundLink Max.
TL:DR - It deserves to be on the shortlist for anyone looking for an outstanding portable bluetooth speaker. It's the first portable BT speaker to even come close to acing my audiophile test playlist.
Here is what I like about the SoundLink Max:
Sound Quality: I kinda feel like this has taken a back seat for a lot of portable BT speakers as of late. Many people prioritize the portability or battery life of a system over pure sound quality. Understandable since if you can't take it with you, or if it doesn't play long enough, the quality really doesn't matter. You don't have to compromise on sound with the SoundLink Max. Even though I stopped chasing the holy grail of audiophile sound (it got WAY too expensive), I do still utilize my test playlist with all my new sound gear, and the Max is the first portable bluetooth speaker I've owned that could even come close to nailing each test. Everything from depth, impact, focus, transients, and resonance were spectacular. Of course it can't get proper separation due to the closeness of the speakers (but a paired set might just do it), but no single point system can do that.
The only test that it even tripped over was part of the bass response, and I'm having trouble isolating whether that is an actual issue with the speaker or if it is something else. On some dance/R&B tracks with certain bass segments, there is a 'stutter' in one frequency set. It's weird, and it only pops up in certain songs. It could very well be an artifact from processing or the original production. Other than that, the SoundLink Max has an impressively controlled bass response which has usually been a weak point for BT speakers and Bose in particular.
Looks: My wife loves the Blue Dusk color and the SoundLink Max design itself is simple and clean. I don't need disco lights nor do I need it to look like some alien spaceship. I also dig the rope handle, which I guess can be swapped out for a longer shoulder rope strap but that's not for me.
Battery Life: Bose says you get 20 hours at moderate volume, but I spent six hours with the audiophile test and just regular music yesterday and a good three hours so far this morning just working in my office and the speaker is still reporting 100%! Now I hope that's not an error with the software but the weight of this speaker makes me think that it has some solid battery capacity built into it.
Charge Capability: Unlike a few portable speakers I've utilized lately, the SoundLink Max will charge your phone if you plug it into the USB-C port. Always a nice feature.
Durability/IP Rating: The Bose SoundLink Max feels solid and sturdy, plus the rubberized coating all lead you to feel that it can take some abuse and still keep rocking. That, and the fact that you can replace the handle if needed, all give me a good feeling that I'll be using this speaker for years to come. The solid IP67 (and weirdly secondary IP64) rating also mean that this is a great speaker to take out and about, whether it is to the pool, beach, desert, or wherever you may roam.
Phone App: Simple and clean. Always appreciate that.
What I don't like as much (but none are very big issues):
Weight: Despite being a relatively compact speaker, you could probably do some serious damage to someone if you were to swing this at them. Perhaps Bose should consider marketing it as a self-defense item or perhaps a stylish exercise weight. It's nothing egregious, but it has some heft to it.
Equalizer: While I appreciate that the app is clean and simple, and that the equalizer is easy to adjust, I would appreciate some better presets, or better yet, the ability to save my own. Hopefully this will come out in a future app update.
I am VERY happy with the Soundlink Max and I look forward to years of great sounding music no matter where I may be.
Thank you very much for your review of the SoundLink Max Portable Bluetooth speaker! I'm delighted that the speaker has passed your audiophile test playlist.
As you also mentioned, the speaker can be used in a variety of outdoor locations, thanks to its "IP67" water resistance rating. This indicates complete protection against dust over an extended period of time, as well as protection against short periods of immersion in water under pressure between 15cm and 1m.

Waterproof. Great sound, great battery. Only thing I would change is making the strap a little more difficult to unhook. Great on a pack but I get nervous about the strap on my SUP. Still, definitely a happy customer here! I wear hearing aids so the crispness of this sound makes a huge difference especially at low volumes for me. The Bluetooth connectivity works great too.

Was looking for a new speaker with a longer charge life that was water proof/resistant so I can listen to music while showering and getting ready. Have a Bose Sound Link Mini that I love but got tired of carrying from one level of the house to another. Did some searching and found this little guy. Was worried about the sound quality because it's so small but went to BB and they had one on display and the sound was amazing. It's very loud and the sound quality is as good as any other Bose speaker. They were also on sale, so it was meant to be. There's a secure strap on the back so you can take it anywhere (bike, back pack, etc...) and I can hang it from a hook in the shower. It's on the far side from the shower head and high up so it doesn't get submerged but so far so good from the moisture. I believe it is actually submersible but probably not going to test that on purpose. But it's nice to know it's probably protected from water. It's small, sleek, light weight, super easy to pair with the app and has a great battery life and there's no better sound quality out there.

This speaker is small, but packs a punch. It has great sound quality and great bass for its size. It is easy to connect to via Bluetooth and the battery will last all day while playing music.
I use it on the golf cart quite frequently and the strap is durable and has a solid weld to whatever you attach it to.
Overall this a great speaker for the price and size, would definitely recommend it!

The sound quality exceeded my expectations. I was impressed that I could hear every note of each song clearly as this little speaker’s sound effortlessly filled the room and beyond. It was easy to use of course, equipped with a few controls on the device to power on/off, adjust volume, play/pause and connect to Bluetooth - it has all the function I need. My fiancé loves the size and how conveniently it travels with us, awesome for on the go and because it’s waterproof it can go anywhere. The small size is definitely something she would feel more comfortable toting than a larger speaker. If she likes it, it’s a win!

I'm not a hardcore audiophile by any stretch of the imagination but I do appreciate having music while I work and play. I picked this speaker up because it is relatively light and thought it would be a good addition to my backpacking and camping kit. Right out of the gate I took it on a 3 day backpacking trip. Having the ability to enjoy our down time listening to a great selection of music really added to the trip.
The sound from this little speaker is amazing given it's size and weight. When not out and about in the outdoors I use it on the patio, by the fire pit, in my shop, and in the office during the day. Bose rates the battery life at 6 hours but in my experience it lasts much longer at moderate volume.
Well worth the money.

Great sound for the size. I connect them with another one or with a bigger bose speaker. Makes for great sound and spread for a bigger area. Especially use this at the beach. Just attach to an umbrella or anything that works. I use this riding my bike. Just put it on the handle bars. Not only great sound for the size but tue battery lasts a long time. The fact that its water proof and dust proof is amazing. I use at the beach, it gets sand on it and just knock it off. I even forgot it outside in the rain overnight once and it was perfectly fine. Stong durable speaker made for life and adventures!

I was honestly surprised when I heard this speaker the first time around. Sure, it may just be one speaker but the passive radiators in this little guy make the bass so much boomier and punchier than you'd expect for a speaker this small. Now, don't get it twisted, this isn't gonna beat the bass of even something like a JBL Flip 5 that has a larger driver, but if you've got $100 and you need a speaker for a small room or for moving on the go, it doesn't get much better than this. The built in strap makes it perfect for attaching to bikes and other things and it holds on pretty well. It's pretty waterproof but I'd be careful around the charging port since it doesn't have a cover and is just exposed 24/7 but beyond that, it's a solid little speaker.

I've had this for over a year and love love love it.. the sound is epic coming out of this tiny device.. one time my home theater system stopped working so I used this and couldn't tell the difference! No problems connecting to the bose app for battery intel... the battery life after a year hasn't phased at all! If I were you and thinking if getting this ..well don't hesitate its totally worth the buy.... its great for road trips, artist adventures to take with you when you want to zen out an draw and listen to music, perfect to listen to the game when out walking, even great for using while you are cooking.. you name it.. Im thinking of getting a larger one for my home theater.. but would recommend this over everything else!

Pleased with this purchase. I own several portable Roland sound systems with great sound, but they are heavy and take up a lot of space. This Bose Bluetooth speaker is small, lightweight, rechargeable, and sounds great. I chose to use the Bose over the July 4th weekend because it is fully capable without the bulk and weight of my other sound systems. I may buy another to have stereo. Worth the investment, would buy again.

Bose SoundLink Max in Blue Dusk
Bose has a new set of portable bluetooth speakers that it has named the SoundLink Max line
There are 2 models available in blue or black colors. I am discussing the Dusk Blue model here but both have identical specifications
Approximate sizing is 10.4 inches wide, 6.4 inches high and approximately 4.1 inches deep. The speakers have Bluetooth 5.3
The internal battery, per the Bose specifications on the website, should last up to 20 hours of usage on a charge at moderate volume levels. The specs say a battery charge lasts 3 hours at full volume.
I did not test this water proof feature, but the speakers are also IP67 waterproof and dust-resistant. I don't normally mix water and electronics.
Of good convenience is another set of features: The speaker has both an analog 3.5mm auxiliary input jack and a USB-C port; the USB-C is to both to charge the speaker and charge external devices such as phones, using the internal speaker battery, when circumstances require it. Of course, doing so will reduce the length the speaker will play music. It works to charge my phone.
The sound quality is very robust, rich and filled with both strong bass and bright treble depending on how the Bose app is adjusted for a user’s preference. Let me state that it has quite some strong volume that will cause some of my less exuberant family members to loudly implore me to turn down the volume. It is very good!
Bose has apps available for their Bose headphones and Bose portable speakers that likely are mostly used with mobile devices such as phones, tablets, Chromebooks, and other bluetooth portable music devices. Using that app allows setting the music tone quality (EQ equalizer settings). Really cool. The app is also compatible with Bose SimpleSync to enable a multi room audio environment. I did not test that since this is my only Bose Bluetooth speaker (for now).
There is a feature that powers off the speaker if no sound is transmitted via bluetooth and no control buttons are used for 20 minutes. That time length is adjustable to hours or turned off via the app.
A voice prompt announces the battery level every time the power is turned on, or when being used, if the power button is pushed and held. It also announces the device it is connected to via bluetooth.
It can connect to 2 bluetooth sources at once and mine does announce my Samsung Android phone and my Gigabyte Windows PC when powered up.
BTW: I have grown very much accustomed to using this with my laptop since the sound it produces is FAR superior to my internal tiny speakers as well as other computer speakers.
Recommended with enthusiasm!
Thank you for your review, it's great to see that you're very happy with the SoundLink Max Bluetooth speaker! I'm happy to hear that you're impressed by the speaker's strong volume performance for its size, as well as the versatility of its USB-C port, which was able to charge your phone with no issues. I hope you enjoy using your new speaker! Warm regards, Fiona M. - Bose Customer Support

This speaker is loud. It doesn’t have its own volume, but it has volume buttons you can use on the speaker. The bass on the speaker is amazing! It works for everything. I’m going to buy a second one so that I can sync them up and have more sound. It’s extremely durable, easy to use, light weight, and it even hangs on stuff.
I’ve used it while fishing, driving, watching shows on my laptop, and working on my vehicle.
They also have a great app you can use as a remote, although it’s not beneficial if you’re playing stuff off your phone.
I hesitated at buying it because it’s so small, but it’s definitely worth it!

The sound quality out of this little speaker is right on par with the Bose brand name. It is small, lightweight, and very portable. There's a soft clip on the back that makes it easy to secure the speaker to my backpack or camping gear so it stays safe and out of the way. Seems like such a small thing, but I also really like the surface texture. It's smooth but not glossy (no part of this speaker feels like plastic), and the texture makes it much less likely to slip on surfaces. Overall a great buy for the price, and I'm really happy with this purchase.
