Purchased it for my mother as she was trying to replace an old stereo that just died. Walked her through the blue tooth process and hooked her up with a music streaming service and she could not be happier.

The sound was good, but the bluetooth connection was unstable and the musinc was getting interrupted frequently.

Sound quality is poor. Volume is very limited. I have to keep it on maximum volume at small parties and it is still hard to hear. I have had other devices of similar size and lower cost that filled the room and was clear. I listen to pod cases through it and it sounds muffled. Easier to just play the pod cast from my phone than use the speaker. Speaker also regularly disconnects my phone for reasons I still do not understand. If I listen for 1-2 hours, I am often having to reconnect 2 to 3 times and having to turn the device off and on. There are may other better products on the market that are cheaper.

Sound wizardry in a compact portable package

The sound fill’s the room with good bass while still sounding exceptionally clear, even at a loud volume. I have a few different Alexa and Google speakers which are larger and sound good, but the sound is a bit short in comparison. With warmer weather coming, the SoundLink will surely find its way out to deck. It’s a compact size yet heavy enough with a low center of gravity so as not to get knocked over by a strong wind or a glancing bump. With an IP55 certification, the speaker is dust and water-resistant, though not waterproof. A rubber cap covers the buttons on top. The SoundLink should hold up to a rain shower, but probably not a dip in the pool. The battery is rated at 13 hours for all day music. There is a battery level LED on the unit to keep track of how it’s doing. Charging is done via a standard USB micro connector as found on Droid phones. There are also some copy contacts on the bottom for a plug free charging tray. With the Bose Connect app you can link multiple SoundLink units together in stereo or “Party” mode, check the battery level, update firmware, find the firmware level and serial number. Once you launch a streaming app like Pandora or Spotify, you can use the Bose Connect+ App to control the volume and skip songs. But there is no EQ or other compelling reason to do so. The SoundLink is a Bluetooth speaker and connects like any other. Once paired, you can play sound from any app on your phone and use your phones volume control. There is no digital assistant like Alexa, Google, or Siri built in. But when paired to a phone you can use the digital assistant on our phone. It’s a fantastic sounding portable speaker in a compact size that can go most anywhere.
