Disappointed with Bose (Devoted customer of Bose)

I have gone through 5 different manufacturers of sport Bluetooth Earbuds and when I returned the 5th pair I saw that Bose had finally marketed one to my relief. Without hesitation even after reading the reviews I ran to Best Buy and got one. It arrived late yesterday and could not wait to get on my bike today and ride with great sound to inspire me. The first 19 miles it worked great super comfortable, awesome sound, and was easy to use; I finally found what I have been looking for. After about 1 hour and 15 minutes I got the static in the left ear that I had read about and it would not go away no matter what I tried. Re-pair, reboot, re-charge nothing helped and it was there even when turned off. I am returning for a second pair tomorrow but I am not confident they will last since this is a well documented problem. I always buy Bose for my audio stuff in my cars, office, and home and love all ot them. I am disappointed in Bose this time and guess I will still have to search for a pair that will last and still work as well as Bose if the second pair fails too. Good luck if you buy these and have intense excessive workouts.

We engineered the SoundSport wireless headphones to be stable and comfortable, sweat and weather resistant, and provide amazing sound. While they’re delivering on this promise for the vast majority of owners, we’ve found that a small percentage of customers, like you, have experienced a problem under specific conditions related to extreme levels of sweat and moisture.
We’ve taken every SoundSport wireless headphone that’s been returned to us, tore them down in our labs, and now have a solution. Going forward, every SoundSport wireless headphone will include this update, and they'll be ready by the end of August.

    Failed on the first try!

I owned the wireless yurbuds for over a year before they failed on me. I decided to upgrade to the wireless Bose. The sound was amazing, much better than the yurbuds and turned on/responded much faster. I had no problem with with comfort and never worried about them slipping out of my ears. 30 minutes into a run, I began to hear static in the left speaker. After my run, I turned off the earbuds and could not get them to turn back on. The LED light flashes yellow that it is still charging no matter how long I charge them for. Returning them tomorrow to give it another chance. Very let down in the quality. They do not seem to last. These Bose earbuds do not seem to be made for running or working out.

    Workout Fail

I have two previous models of the wired SoundSport Headphones that have served me well over the years. I was really excited to try this new wireless set. Out of the box, they were easy to fit, comfortable and secure in-ear. They worked well paired to both my Macbook and iPhone. That is the good part. The next morning, I used them on a run and 30 minutes into my workout, I started getting static in the left ear piece. Moments later, none of the controls would work. I tried turning the unit off, but even the power button would no longer work. I am not certain how sweat-resistant these new headphones really are for sport use. Needless to say, they were returned for a refund.

For the majority of customers, the SoundSport wireless is delivering on its promise – it’s a headphone that’s stable and comfortable, sweat and weather resistant, with amazing sound. But, like you, a small percentage of owners have experienced a problem, and that’s not okay.
We’ve taken every headphone returned to us and analyzed them in our labs to get to the bottom of the issue. We discovered SoundSport wireless doesn't perform like it should under specific conditions related to heavy sweat and moisture. And we now have a solution to make it work just as well in these situations, too.
Going forward, every SoundSport wireless will include this update, and they’ll be ready by the end of August if you’re interested in trying them again. Fantastic Sound, Depressing Durability

First impressions: these headphones look and sound fantastic. I could not believe I was listening to music through a pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones. The pairing process is incredibly easy and you can pair as many devices as you want, but can only have two connected at a time. I connected my iPhone and my iMac to the headphones and they worked. This is about as positive as the review can go though. The quality of the earbuds is quite poor. On my fourth day of using them I had a small tear on the earlobe. After my second workout (A quick 4 mile long run) the headphones died and never turned back on. The indicator said it was charging but they never turned on. I exchanged them for a second pair and had a different issue this time. During a hot and humid run I started hearing a beeping noise followed by non-stop static. Very disappointed in the quality of these headphones, they're obviously not built to withstand sweat or athletic conditions.

    Fantastic Product, Just Fails

I purchased this product ecstatic about Bose finally developing a wireless, in-ear earbud. I own multiple Bose products and am a huge fan of the quality Bose brings to the table, usually. The SoundSport is somewhat bulky in the ear, but that did not bug me. It was when the product stopped working twice within a two week period!! Yes, I assumed this was meant for the 'active' lifestyle, so I wore to the gym as well as on outside runs. And yes, I do sweat when I workout, but the product is suppose to be sweatproof. I started to hear static in the left ear, then the product died. I tried turning it on, but it failed. I charged it for 12 hours, but the product still did not turn on. After giving it a shot two different times, I decided to return to Best Buy and give a competitor a try. Product seems underdeveloped and untested. I would stay away from this set if you're looking to use them when working out, or ensure you buy the Geek Squad Protection Plan.

Sounded good but bad battery and uncomfortable fit

I normally don't write detailed reviews. However I thought of giving a detailed review on this one because of the surprisingly bad experience that I had with this ear phone. I own a soundlink over the ear headphone, a revolve plus speaker that I recently bought , a solo 5 for my TV and a couple of soundtrue ear phones- which basically means I am a Bose fan. However this particular ear phone was a pain in my ears and the fit was not as good as the sound true ear phones that I have. Probably just the wrong size of the rubber piece that fits in the ear so I am willing to ignore that. But what I can not ignore is the loud static noise that I get randomly coupled with the fact that the battery doesn't last for more than 2 hours. I bought this ear phone last week and am glad that I am still within the best buy return period. These are going back leaving me highly disappointed. My experience with Bose customer service too has been frustrating so I don't even want to contact them. The last time I contacted them about the software update that took close to 3 days on my revolve plus and was still not done, they directed me to a link to update it manually on their website but the funny thing was that the link did not have revolve plus listed. Before that I talked to them about my sound sport ear phone dying on me and they were telling me to wipe the 3.5 mm connector with alcohol swab and the metal mesh of the ear tip with hydrogen peroxide. I then knew that they are dilly dallying and since the earphone was more than an year old so I figured there wont be any warranty and I bought my second pair as I cant live without them. They are that good. I love my other bose speakers too. I am hoping this was just a defective piece however frustrated with the kind of customer service that I got, I am thinking for now I will not buy another one and live with the sound true ear phone for a while and see if we get any kind of deal on these earphones.

    What Happened Bose?

I have always been a Bose fan because all Bose products I used have never failed me until this headset. I was so excited when this product was introduced and admittedly I was the first to have it. 2 months into using it, I was really impressed with how well it stays on my ears even in most rigorous workouts, and the sound is good. And then... the left side has a static sound that wouldn't go away even resetting the headset. So a call into Bose support get me a replacement unit, except the replacement unit is different color than the one I bought. So I called again, and this time, I was on the phone for an hour, waiting for someone to pick up. I did this twice, and then gave up. I emailed the customer support group and so far no reply. Basically, I am stuck with a replacement unit that is not what I want, and there is no where to turn to for help! After searching on the web about this issue, it appears that the problem is common for a few folks, and Bose is aware of it. Since I got the replacement unit, I have no idea if it has been fixed, or just another unit that soon enough will present the same problem. Bose has been a great company I go to, but this product is leaving me with a black eye and pretty unhappy customer. I don't recommend this product as it is stands Best Buy customer support is even worse. After 2 months, I just want to exchange for another unit because mine is defective. They said: you need to speak with Bose. I have so regretfully to do business with Best Buy!

Do Not Work if you Sweat

I purchased my first pair of the SoundSport wireless headphones the day before Father's Day 2016. I ran six miles with the headphones, on Father's Day, and upon the third mile I experienced static in the left earphone. I blew into the earphone, which somewhat alleviated the problem, only for the static to return within a few minutes. By the end of my run the headphones had completely stopped working. I called Bose and was told that I could return the headphones to them; however, it would take four to six weeks to receive a replacement. I therefore returned the headphones to Best Buy the following Monday and had to order a new pair as none were in stock at my local store. By the weekend the new pair had arrived. Due to a knee injury, I did not run for a few weeks but used the SoundSport headphones in the gym during weight training. The sound was great and I had no issues, although it is I believe relevant to point out that I do not sweat profusely during my weight training routine. After a few weeks I resumed running and again, experienced the same issue that I had first encountered with the SoundSport headphones on my first run. Again, I returned the SoundSport headphones to Best Buy in exchange for a new set. I am now on my third set which finally stopped working again yesterday after another run. It would appear that sweating is the cause and for me at least, approximately 25 minutes (3 miles) into a run. I have enjoyed a pair of Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Over-Ear Headphones for a number of years, which work well, although the build quality is not particularly impressive. In fact the power switch began malfunctioning on a flight back to the US from London yesterday. At any rate, I have enjoyed Bose products and will once again say that the sound quality with the SoundSport headphones is impressive; unfortunately, technical execution on this product appears to be lacking. I plan on returning my third set to Best Buy today and awaiting the end of August, when I understand an updated SoundSport headphones will be available. My question to Bose, if they read this message, is how will I know that I have purchased an updated version? Will there be a serial number differentiator?

    Fail during intense workouts

As an upfront caveat, it is possible I just happened to purchase a defective set. However, I do not believe this is the case and will be returning them to look for something else. Background: I purchased the Bose SoundSport Wireless headphones online and picked them up at a local store. I wanted a set of headphones I could workout in and not have to worry about threading wires under my clothes. I based my purchase decision based mostly on a review published by CNET.com (http://www.cnet.com/products/bose-soundsport-wireless/). I paired the headphones (easily) to my iPod Nano 7 and iPhone 6. I took them with me on three workouts: 12 mile bike ride, 4 mile run, and a 20 mile bike ride. These workouts occurred in 90+ degree weather with significant humidity. Issue 1 - volume: In each case I had to turn the volume all the way up on both device and headphones (really the same thing, but I tried both out of frustration). I could barely hear the audio when with a slight wind when I was coasting on a bike. When I got some speed downhill, I could not hear anything except the rush of the wind. Running it was slightly better, except for the skipping. Issue 2 - skipping: This happened infrequently during the bike rides, but when I took them on a run the audio kept phasing in and out with my footfalls. I initially had the connecting cord behind my neck (frequent to constant skipping), then switched it to the front (occasional periods of skipping). Only two things made the skipping cease: completely stopping / walking, or taking the right earpiece out and holding onto it (not ideal for running). The right earpiece is where the Bluetooth connects, and also the location of the volume controls. Clearly, the impact of my running was jolting the controls and causing the audio to skip. Issue 3 - crackling / moisture: This only occurred on my longer bike ride. It was ~100 degrees out with humidity. I was sweating. a lot. About 6 miles into my ride the left earpiece began emitting a crackling / loud static sound. Initially I thought it was a connection issue, but when I removed the earpiece and blew inside it (to remove moisture) the crackling stopped for a short while. I had to do this eight times over the next 14 miles. In each case, blowing inside the earpiece would temporarily relieve the crackling. It would seem these earphones are just not meant for someone who sweats as much as I do. Positives - While slightly bulky looking, the earphones stayed in my ear very well (despite the sweat). The sound quality is excellent when you are stationary or walking. They are also very easy to pair with any device. Reason I am returning them: I purchased these with the intent of using them on workouts. However, it would seem (from my experience) they are not built for anything more intense than a brisk walk. I need a pair of headphones that will hold up when I am drenched in sweat and in constant motion. These are not that pair. I know Bose makes outstanding audio products. These, however, need some work. They would be great for relaxing cord-free, but that was not what I needed them for.
