I've been having audio systems installed in my vehicles for almost two decades now. There are differing opinions on the usefulness of power caps. I can attest to the benefits of having a power cap anytime you have at least an aftermarket audio (and video) system that includes a head unit, speakers, subs, and amp(s) to power all that stuff, upgrading your car battery and adding a power cap makes a huge difference. The most noticeable difference is no dimming of the headlights when the bass from the sub hits. The other more useful difference is the ability to listen to your sound system for periods of time without the vehicle running without worrying about killing your battery. You might be surprised at how often you'll actually do this if you do decide to get a power cap. You would almost never do it without one because you'll very quickly regret it once your battery dies. Best Buy sold power caps for a while. Stopped for a bit and thankfully bought them back. Matthew 7:12

I upgraded the sound system in my second car after having previously upgraded the sound system in my first car. Best Buy did all the work on both. I ended up adding a power cap to the first car, and it was a huge benefit. I initially didn't add a power cap to the second car, and I could tell not having one was causing issues (i.e. headlights dimming from the subwoofer). Thankfully Best Buy had this Boss power cap available for a great price, so I snatched it up and had it installed by Geek Squad. It's solved the dimming headlight problem and also gives me the added benefit of knowing I've got some power in reserve for times when I want to sit with the car off and still utilize the audio/video system. The design is nice, and so far it's been running properly. Hope this helps. Thanks. Matthew 7:12
